Townsend

GREENVILLE — Funeral services for James Townsend, 98, of Greenville will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at New Mt. Zion MB Church, Greenville. He died Dec. 11, 2002, at Delta Regional Medical Center, Greenville. Burial will be in Delta Memorial Gardens, Greenville, under the direction of Harris-Brown & Marion Funeral Home, Greenville.

Mr. Townsend was born June 12, 1904, in Hernando, Miss. He received his formal education in Hernando. He accepted Christ at a very early age. After relocating to Greenville, he became one of the founders of New Mt. Zion MB Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Chester. The Rev. H.A. Armstrong became the pastor after the death of Chester. The church is now under the leadership of the Rev. W.E. Tinson. He served for many years as president of the ushers board and deacon board.

Deacon Townsend served in many community organizations. He was a former member of the Knights and Daughters of Tabor, Washington County General Baptist Association, Community Ushers Union, Greenville Travel Club, Lake Vista Lodge No. 46, F&AM Prince Hall affiliated and Serene Lodge No. 567.

Townsend Street was named in his honor.

Deacon Townsend was united in holy matrimony on Dec. 16, 1984, to Rosie Lee.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter; and one sister.

His memories will be cherished by a loving wife, Rosie Lee Townsend; four daughters, Mary Greene, Charlene Jones and NeKisha Townsend, all of Jacksonville, Fla., and Elitha Lee of Jackson; one son, Tommie Frank Townsend of Hernando; two stepsons, Patrick Lee and Johnny Winfield, both of Greenville; one stepdaughter, Valarie Bruessard of Greenville; and a host of friends and other relatives.

Visitation will be Friday from 1 to 5 p.m., with family hour from 4 to 5 p.m., at Harris-Brown & Marion Funeral Home, Greenville. The body will lie in state at the church Saturday from 1 to 2 p.m.

Williams

SCOTT — Funeral arrangements for Gregory Lynn Williams, 42, of Atlanta, Ga., and formerly of Scott are pending at Redmon Funeral Home, Greenville. He died Dec. 15, 2002, at South Fulton Hospital, East Point, Ga.

Bell

ROLLING FORK — Funeral arrangements for Jessie Bell Sr., 83, of Rolling Fork are pending at Walker Funeral Home, Rolling Fork. He died Feb. 4, 2003, at Sharkey Issaquena Hospital, Rolling Fork.

Blandon

BELZONI — Funeral services for Irving L. Blandon, 66, of Belzoni will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at Smith Funeral Home chapel, Belzoni. He died of heart failure Feb. 1, 2003, at his home. Burial will be in Watson Chapel Cemetery, Belzoni.

Elder Johnny Lee Smith will officiate.

Carter

SHAW — Funeral arrangements for Mack Carter Sr., 91, of Shaw are pending at Redmon Funeral Home, Greenville. He died Feb. 3, 2003, at Bolivar Medical Center, Cleveland.

Finklea

LELAND — Funeral services for Ella Williams Davidson Finklea, 84, of Leland, a retired secretary, will be Friday at 3 p.m. at Boone Funeral Home, Leland. She died of heart failure Feb. 3, 2003, at Delta Regional Medical Center, Greenville. Burial will be in Leland-Stoneville Cemetery, Stoneville.

She was born in Cave City, Ark., and moved to Leland, Miss., at an early age with her parents. She graduated from Leland High School and attended Mississippi Delta Community College. She married Jimmie C. Finklea in 1939 and was employed with Finklea Brothers as an agricultural aviation secretary for many years. She later was employed with a local hotel as a secretarial clerk until her retirement in 1992. She was a member of Parkview Baptist Church in Leland. She was well loved by many friends and will be dearly missed.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1960, two sisters and four brothers.

Survivors include one daughter, Mona Lisa Weeks (Sammy) of Leland; two sons, James D. Finklea (Kathryn) of Beaumont, Texas, and William Irby Finklea (Laura Jean) of Dallas; one sister, Annie Hill Finklea of Harrison, Ark.; a former sister-in-law, Bonita Finklea of Leland; one granddaughter, Nona Lea Finklea (Michael) of Dallas; four grandsons, William Curtis Finklea (Lynn) of Greenville, James David Finklea of Galveston, Texas, and Samuel "Duke" Weeks and Alvin Carleton Weeks (Tiffany), both of Leland; three great-grandsons, David "Bubbie" Finklea, Curtis Michael Finklea and Shelby Lynn Finklea, all of Greenville.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Boone Funeral Home, Leland.

Morris

SUNFLOWER PLANTATION— Funeral services for Estelle Morris, 85, of Sunflower Plantation will be today at 10:30 a.m. at Williams & Lord Funeral Home, Ruleville. She died Feb. 2, 2003, at Hospice Ministries, Ridgeland. Burial will be in Drew Cemetery, Drew.

Mrs. Morris was retired from Baxter Lab of Cleveland, with 25 years of perfect attendance. She was a member of Bethany Baptist Church and was a resident of Sunflower Plantation since 1941.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Rayford H. Morris, and one son, J.C. Morris.

Survivors include four sons, Pat Morris of Fort Worth, Texas, Bobby Morris of Cleveland, Ralph Morris of Rough and Ready, Calif., and Phillip Morris of Greenville; two daughters, Mrs. Donnis Ingram of Jackson and Mrs. Laverne Miller of Clinton; one brother, Milton S. Cullum of Greenville; 19 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

The Rev. Mark Hinson and the Rev. Thomas Bruce will officiate.

Peaches

GREENVILLE — Funeral arrangements for Henrietta Wade "Pig" Peaches, 30, of Greenville are pending at Redmon Funeral Home, Greenville. She died Feb. 2, 2003, at University of Mississippi Medical Center, Jackson.

Perry

GRENADA — Funeral services for Janie Elizabeth Huddleston Perry, 65, of Grenada were Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Garner-Harper Funeral Home chapel, Grenada. She died of heart failure Feb. 2, 2003, at Grenada Living Center, Grenada. Burial will be in Drew Cemetery, Drew.

Survivors include two sons, Calvin Mullins of Water Valley and Richard Criddle of Grenada; six grandchildren; and two brothers, George Huddleston Jr. of Lake Village, Ark., and James Huddleston of Grenada.

The Rev. Raymond Aven officiated.

Richardson

GREENVILLE — Funeral arrangements for Marie Hall "Sis" Richardson, 78, of Greenville are pending at Redmon Funeral Home, Greenville. She died Feb. 4, 2003, at Delta Regional Medical Center, Greenville.

Walls

GREENVILLE — Funeral arrangements for Mary Ann Walls, 48, of Greenville are pending at Walker Funeral Home, Rolling Fork. She died Feb. 3, 2003, at Delta Regional Medical Center, Greenville.

Allen

GREENVILLE — Funeral services for Sherril D. Thomas "1-4" Allen, 33, of Greenville will be Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at Redmon Funeral Home chapel, Greenville. She died from injuries sustained in an automobile accident March 28, 2003, in Metcalfe. Burial will be in Lakewood Cemetery, Greenville.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Ira Thomas; and one son, Jakendrick "J.T." Thomas.

Survivors include her husband, Tommie L. Allen of Greenville; two sons, Freddie Ware and Tomarius Allen, both of Greenville; four stepsons, Patrick Reed, Tommie Allen Jr. and Damion Norals, all of Leland, and Terry Allen of Vicksburg; one stepdaughter, Suzette Reed of Georgia; one sister, Bessie (Robert) Diggins of Greenville; her godmother, Cora Lewis of Greenville; two godsisters, Nikki Clark and Shenita Townsend, both of Greenville; four special nieces, Richlone Webster, Valeria Buggs, Lisa Melton and Natasha McCray, all of Greenville; one nephew, Michael McCray of Adrian, Mich.; and a host of great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be Friday from 1 to 5 p.m. at Redmon Funeral Home chapel, Greenville.

The Rev. Edward Allen will officiate.

Dorsey

BELZONI — Funeral services for Aretrous Dorsey, 90, of Belzoni, a retired plant worker, will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at New Beginning Church of God, Belzoni. He died of heart failure March 27, 2003, at his home. Burial will be in Humphreys County Memorial Garden, Belzoni, under the direction of Smith Funeral Home, Belzoni.

Survivors include three sons, Earl Weathersby of Moss Point, Eric Weathersby of Pascagoula and Dewayne Weathersby of Belzoni; and six daughters, Lisa Weathersby, Edna Weathersby, Erica Weathersby, Marilyn Weathersby, Danette Weathersby and Monique Dorsey, all of Belzoni.

Visitation will be Friday from noon to 5 p.m., with family hour from 6 to 7 p.m., at Smith Funeral Home chapel.

Elder Willie Hart will officiate.

Moore

GREENVILLE — Funeral arrangements for Jessie Moore, 92, of Whitfield and formerly of Greenville are pending at Redmon Funeral Home, Greenville. She died April 1, 2003, at Mississippi State Hospital, Whitfield.
