DREW -- Funeral arrangements for Charlie Edward, 85, of Drew are pending at Byas Funeral Home, Ruleville. He died Dec. 12, 2002, at Northwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center, Clarksdale.

Fountain

INDIANOLA -- Funeral services for Sarah Ceola Fountain, 98, of Indianola will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Rasberry MB Church, Indianola. She died Dec. 10, 2002, at Seyah Hospice Adult Day Care Center, Inverness. Burial will be in Riverside Memorial Garden, Indianola, under the direction of Byas Funeral Home, Indianola.

Survivors include one daughter, Patricia (Eugene Jr.) Snipes of Indianola; one sister-in-law, Beatrice Monroe of Indianola; one sister, Lottie Carter of Indianola; two grandchildren, Eugene (Tammy) Snipe III of McKinney, Texas, and Melton Patrick Snipes of Hattiesburg; three great-grandchildren, William Jevon Snipes and Justin Devon Snipes, both of McKinney, Texas, and Melton Patrick Snipes Jr. of Hattiesburg; and a host of other nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be today from 2 to 6 p.m. at Byas Funeral Home, Indianola.

Pastor Willie Gore will officiate.

Hartfield

GREENVILLE -- Funeral services for Amy Hartfield, 76, of Greenville will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Sisson Chapel of Byas Funeral Home, Greenville. She died Dec. 5, 2002, at Delta Regional Medical Center, Greenville. Burial will be in Lakewood Cemetery, Greenville.

Survivors include one daughter, Clara (David) Ray of Greenville; five sons, Johnny Hartfield and Eddie Hartfield, both of Greenville, John Lee Johnson of Milwaukee, Wis., Walter Lee Johnson of Jackson, Miss., and Parker Young of Little Rock, Ark.; two sisters, Edna Humphreys and Pearl Grant, both of Milwaukee, Wis.; eight grandchildren; and 32 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be today from 2 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home.

The Rev. Frank Hall will officiate.

Johnson

GREENVILLE -- Funeral services for Masie Lee Johnson, 54, of Greenville, will be Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at J.L. Featherstone Progressive Baptist State Convention Building, Greenville. She died Dec. 10, 2002, at River Oaks Hospital, Flowood. Burial will be in Lakewood Cemetery, Greenville, under the direction of Redmon Funeral Home, Greenville.

Mrs. Masie Lee Johnson was born Nov. 18, 1949, to Mr. James and Mrs. Rosie Jane Wilson Johnson in Washington County, Miss. She was a member of New Prosperity MB Church, Arcola-Wayside Road, under the leadership of the Rev. Robert Jordan. She graduated from Norma C. O'Bannon School in 1966. She received her bachelor of science degree in elementary education from Mississippi Valley State College, Itta Bena, Miss. Mrs. Johnson began her teaching career with Indianola public schools in 1971, and remained through 1976. In 1977, she joined the staff of the Hollandale school district, teaching at Simmons Elementary and Chambers Attendance Center until she became disabled in 1989.

She leaves to cherish her memories two sons, Ellis Delaine Johnson of Lake Village, Ark., and Damian Clarkee Johnson of Greenville; one devoted daughter, Lucrissa Charvette Johnson of Greenville; six brothers, James W. (Mary) Johnson of Fairbanks, Alaska, Melvin (Sandra) Johnson of Riverside, Calif., Donel Johnson and Eligah (Wanda) Johnson, both of Greenville, Phillip (Judy) Johnson of Fuquay, N.C., and Curtis (Benita) Johnson of Houston, Texas; five sisters, Margaret (Henderson) Fields of Greenville, Luevenia (Charles) Tolbert of Hollandale, Estella (Steven) Young and Dorinda Johnson, both of San Bernadino, Calif., and Sheila Johnson of Houston, Texas; five grandchildren; two aunts, Lucille Wilson of Lake Village, Ark., and Lucinda Maybell of Detroit, Mich.; three great-aunts, Noella Solomon of Los Angeles, Lillian Solomon of Inglewood, Calif., and Idella Griffin of Greenville; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Visitation will be Saturday from 1 to 5 p.m. at Redmon Funeral Home chapel, Greenville. The remains will lie in state at the church Sunday from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.

The Rev. Robert Jordan will officiate.

Johnson

GREENVILLE -- Funeral arrangements for Ulysses Johnson, 70, of Greenville are pending at Byas Funeral Home, Indianola. He died Dec. 12, 2002, at his home.

King

INDIANOLA -- Funeral services for Ella King, 88, of Indianola will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at First United Baptist Church, Indianola. She died Dec. 5, 2002, at her home. Burial will be in Riverside Memorial Garden, Indianola, under the direction of Byas Funeral Home, Indianola.

Survivors include eight sons, Lee Jones Jr. of Cincinnati, Ohio, Ben Brown, Sammie King and Rufus King, all of Chicago, Willie King Jr. and J.W. King, both of Indianola, George King of Columbus, Pa., and Cary King of Grenada; five daughters, Ruby Lee Lockhart of Chicago, Rebecca Holmes, Decy Williams and Emma Cobbins, all of Indianola, and Annie Jackson of Houston, Texas; two sisters, Montana Johnson of Springfield, Ore., and Annie Bell Davis of Oakland, Calif.; two godchildren, Sadie Nevels of Indianola and Charlie Nevels of Greenville; one godsister, Eliza Nutall of Indianola; 60 grandchildren; 76 great-grandchildren; and 35 great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be today from 2 to 6 p.m., with family hour from 6 to 7 p.m., at Hayes Chapel of Byas Funeral Home, Indianola.

The Rev. Sammie Rash will officiate.

Shanklin

ISOLA -- Funeral services for Ella Mae Shanklin, 70, of Isola will be Sunday at 1 p.m. at Strangers Home MB Church, Isola. She died Dec. 11, 2002, at Greenwood Leflore County Hospital, Greenwood. Burial will be in Weeping Mary Cemetery, Isola, under the direction of Byas Funeral Home, Indianola.

Survivors include four sons, Jeff Shanklin and Earl D. Shanklin, both of Isola, and Charlie Shanklin and Morris L. Shanklin, both of Indianola; six daughters, Floria Young, Everlena Gates, Annie Mae Shanklin, Maggie J. Shanklin and Bessie R. Shanklin, all of Indianola, and Earlean Greenwood of Belzoni; two sisters, Mary L. Stowers and Thelma Davis, both of Isola; three brothers, Henry L. Chester of Springfield, Ill., K.C. Davis of Chicago and Eugene Davis of Parchman; 35 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Visitation will be Saturday from 2 to 6 p.m. at Byas Funeral Home, Indianola.

The Rev. Maurice Allen will officiate.

Sykes

INDIANOLA -- Funeral services for Alford Sykes, 77, of Indianola will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at First United Methodist Church, Indianola. He died Dec. 11, 2002, at South Sunflower County Hospital, Indianola. Burial will be in Indianola Memorial Gardens under the direction of Card Funeral Home, Indianola.

Mr. Sykes was a lifetime resident of Indianola. He graduated from Indianola High School and Sunflower Junior College. He was a World War II Navy veteran and member of the American Legion. He was a member of First United Methodist Church. He retired after 35 years as engineer aide for Mississippi Power & Light Co.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth Reeves Sykes; three sons, Barry Sykes of Gurnee, Ill., David Sykes of Greenville and Don Sykes of Indianola; three brothers, Gene Sykes of Jackson, Charles Sykes of Southaven and Bob Sykes of Isola; and six grandchildren.

Visitation will be today from 5 to 7 p.m. at Card Funeral Home, Indianola.

Townsend

GREENVILLE -- Funeral arrangements for James Townsend, 98, of Greenville are pending at Harris-Brown & Marion Funeral Home, Greenville. He died Dec. 12, 2002, at Delta Regional Medical Center, Greenville.

Ware

VICKSBURG -- Graveside services for L.C. Ware, 83, of Vicksburg will be today at noon at Anguilla Cemetery, Anguilla. He died Nov. 27, 2002, at Vicksburg Convalescent Home. Burial will be under the direction of Walker Funeral Home, Rolling Fork.

White

LELAND -- Funeral services for Cassandra Thomas White, 32, of Killeen, Texas, and formerly of Leland, will be Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at Mt. Olive MB Church, Greenville. She died Dec. 6, 2002, at Parkland Hospital, Dallas. Burial will be in Delta Memorial Cemetery, Greenville, under the direction of Frye Funeral Home, Leland.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Emmanuel Miller and Sandra Joyce Thomas.

Survivors include her husband, Anthony White of Killeen, Texas; stepmother, Doris Miller of Leland; grandmother, Rosie Lee Parsley of Elizabeth; two daughters, Kiyama Barnes and Ronique Williams, both of Killeen, Texas; stepdaughter, DeShanda Cannon of Greenville; three sisters, LaToya Thomas of Starkville, Tasha Kimble of Indianola and Keisha Ford of Leland; four brothers, Emmanuel (Star) Thomas of San Antonio, Marcus (Eshaella) Thomas and Darrin (Chandra) Griggs, both of Greenville, and Marcus Ford of Dallas; 16 aunts; six uncles; two sisters-in-law, Katherine (James) Harris of Jackson and Anita White of Greenville; one brother-in-law, Jessie (Un) White of the U.S. Air Force; father-in-law and mother-in-law, the Rev. Jessie (Lucille) White of Greenville; grandmother-in-law, Minnie Smith of Florida; one goddaughter, Kelilalah Jackson of Killeen, Texas; two godsisters, Jackie Brown and Felicia McKnight of Greenville; and godmother, Fannie Williams of Greenville.

The Rev. Hudson Augustus will officiate.

Williams

SHAW -- Funeral services for Lataris Williams, 31, of Shaw will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Holy Temple Church, Shaw. He died Dec. 4, 2002, in Shaw. Burial will be in Sanders Memorial Gardens, Shaw, under the direction of Byas Funeral Home, Cleveland.

Survivors include five sisters, Carolyn Williams, Anna Williams and Barbara Williams, all of Cleveland, Mildred Hooker of Renova and Hester Williams of Shaw; and one brother, Frank Michael Williams of Lubbock, Texas.

Visitation will be today from 2 to 6 p.m. at Byas Funeral Home, Cleveland.

The Rev. Henry Parker will officiate.

Winters

GREENVILLE -- Funeral services for Earnestine Watts Winters, 77, of Greenville were held Monday at Byas Funeral Home chapel, Greenville. She died Dec. 4, 2002, at Delta Regional Medical Center, Greenville. Burial was in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, Greenville.

Earnestine Watts-Winters was born May 27, 1925, to the late Mose and Ardelia Watts.

At an early age, she expressed her belief in Jesus Christ by joining the St. Thomas MB Church under the leadership of the late H.T. James, where she was a working member of the choir. After a number of years, she joined the Mother's Board, and she also became a member of the Sisters of Charity, where she worked faithfully until her health failed.

She was united in holy matrimony to Curtis Winters Sr. on Dec. 25, 1941, and from this union 10 children were born. She was the last surviving sibling.

She was loved by all who knew her.

She leaves to cherish her loving memories her husband, Curtis Winters Sr. of Greenville; five daughters, Earnestine (Samuel) Catholic of Briarcliff, N.Y., and Martha (Ralph Sr.) Ransome, Helen (Frank) Johnson, Shirley Winters and Joe Ann Winters, all of Greenville; five sons, Carlee Winters, Leroy (Mattie) Winters, Curtis Winters Jr. and Sylvester Winters, all of Greenville, and James (Gale) Winters of Cincinnati, Ohio; 23 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; two godchildren, Tepreena and Angel; two sisters-in-law, Flozell Jackson of Lamont, Miss., and Alice Watts of Little Rock, Ark.; one brother-in-law, Lonnie Evans Sr. of Chicago; and a host of nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.

The Rev. C.H. Hall officiated.
