Shoffner

GREENVILLE -- Graveside services for Blanche H. Shoffner, 48, of Greenville will be Thursday at 11 a.m. in Greenville Cemetery. She died Oct. 15, 2002, at The King's Daughters Hospital, Greenville. Burial will be under the direction of Smith Funeral Home, Greenville.

Mrs. Shoffner was born May 26, 1954, at Glen Allan, Miss., to Mark and Maryline Holley. She was a lifelong resident of Greenville, where she was a member of First United Methodist Church. She attended school at Deer Creek Academy where she graduated high school. She married J.F. Shoffner in 1999, and was co-owner of Shoffner Auto Sales Inc.

Survivors include her husband, J.F. Shoffner of Greenville; her parents, Mark and Maryline Holley of Greenville; two sons, Rogel (Kena) Campbell Jr. and Brian P. (Pamela) Campbell, both of Greenville; three stepsons, James F. (Eva) Shoffner Jr. of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., and Dana L. (DeOnna) Shoffner and Jeffery R. (Kim) Shoffner, both of Greenville; one sister, Diane Estes of Chatham, La.; three brothers, Robert Holley and Larry Holley, both of Greenville, and Keith Holley of Jackson; three step-grandchildren, Mark Shoffner, Harley Shoffner and Amber Shoffner.

Visitation will be today from 6 to 8 p.m. at Smith Funeral Home, Greenville.

All family and friends will meet at Smith Funeral Home by 10:30 a.m. Thursday to go to the cemetery in procession.

The Rev. Tom Atkins will officiate.

Thompson

MOUND BAYOU -- Funeral arrangements for Ward Thompson, 54, of Mound Bayou are pending at Byas Funeral Home, Cleveland. He died Oct. 14, 2002, at Bolivar Health & Rehabilitation Center, Cleveland.

Williams

MALVINA -- Funeral arrangements for Theresa J. Williams, 77, of Malvina are pending at T.L. Redmon Funeral Home, Cleveland. She died Oct. 14, 2002, at her home.

Gamble

LELAND — Funeral services for Louise Gamble, 78, of Leland will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Beulah Grove MB Church, Leland. She died Dec. 9, 2002, at Delta Regional Medical Center, Greenville. Burial will be in St. Matthew-Pilgrim Home Cemetery, Napanee, under the direction of Frye Funeral Home, Leland.

Loving memories remain in the hearts of her three daughters, Earnestine Gamble of Leland, Elizabeth McCrary of Springfield, Ill., and Emma Mary Summerville of Memphis; one brother, Elporter (Artelure) Gamble of Forrest City, Ark.; one sister, Elizabeth Whitney of Pine Bluff, Ark.; seven grandchildren, Jimeyuki Gamble and Shandus Gamble, both of Memphis, Carlos Gamble of Houston, Texas, Jeri K. Boyd and Tenika McCrary, both of Springfield, Ill., Yakethia (Dennis) Ball of Kansas City, Mo., and Marcus Dion Young of Leland; one very special niece, Josephine Hopkins of Leland; and a host of loving nieces, nephews and cousins.

The body will lie in state at the church Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m.

The Rev. L.C. Adley is pastor of the church. The Rev. Jesse Jackson will officiate.

Johnson

GREENVILLE — Funeral arrangements for Masie Johnson, 54, of Greenville are pending at Redmon Funeral Home, Greenville. She died Dec. 10, 2002, at River Oaks Hospital, Flowood, Miss.

Kellum

GREENVILLE — Funeral services for Lillie "Lillo" Miller Kellum, 49, of Greenville and formerly of Benoit will be Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at Old Morning Star MB Church, Benoit. She died Dec. 6, 2002, at Delta Regional Medical Center, Greenville. Burial will be in Old Morning Star Cemetery, Benoit, under the direction of Redmon Funeral Home, Greenville.

Lillie "Lillo" Miller Kellum was born Nov. 26, 1953, in Bolivar County to the late Arthur and Louise Carey Miller. Lillie accepted Christ at an early age in life and joined Old Morning Star MB Church in Benoit, Miss., where she remained until her death. Lillie was united in holy matrimony in 1973 to Curtis Kellum. To this union, two children were born. Later Lillie added another beautiful daughter to this family. She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Arthur and Louise Carey Miller.

To know Lillie was to love her. She leaves to cherish her memories her loving ex-husband and friend, Curtis Kellum of Greenville; three beautiful children, one son, Cedric Kellum, and two daughters, Danna Kellum and Alicia Kellum, all of Greenville; a devoted stepmother, Willie Mae Miller of Benoit; one stepson, Robert Johnson of Atlanta, Ga.; one brother, Wollum Jeff (Rosemary) Carey of Benoit; two sisters, Sarah Mitchell of Philadelphia, Pa., and Corine Morris of St. Louis, Mo.; five godsisters, Helen (Willie) Amos, Mildred (Tommy) Summages and Deborah Ingram, all of Greenville, Cora (George) Miller of Benoit and Mary Ann Ingram of Illinois; three godbrothers, James Murray of Dallas, Texas, George (Mary) Ingram of Greenville and Robert Ingram of Benoit; five grandchildren, Jayline, Willie, Amari, Anya and Mayka, all of Greenville; a very special cousin, Arlean Wright Washington of Greenville; two special family friends, Willie Jones and Narsaunika Howell, both of Greenville; and a host of cousins, other relatives and close friends of the family.

Visitation will be Friday from 1 to 5 p.m. at Redmon Funeral Home chapel, Greenville. The remains will lie in state at the church Saturday from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.

The Rev. David Franklin will officiate.

Mayes

GREENVILLE — Funeral services for Jake Mayes Jr., 53, of Greenville and formerly of Choctaw will be Saturday at 11:30 a.m. at T.L. Redmon Funeral Home chapel, Cleveland. He died Dec. 8, 2002, at his home. Burial will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery, Choctaw.

Survivors include two sons, Detric Mayes of Greenville and Gary Mayes of Detroit; four brothers, Leevone "L.V." (Martha) Fields, Riley "R.D." Fields and James Fields, all of Cleveland, Ohio, and Levi Mayes of Leland; five sisters, Maggie Braswell of Detroit, and Rosie Fields, Louise (Andrew) Feltson, Ethel (Tyrone) Wilson and Elnora Mayes, all of Shaw; five grandchildren; a special friend, Sheridan "Shirley" K. Smalls of Greenville; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation will be Friday from 1 to 6 p.m. at T.L. Redmon Funeral Home, Cleveland.

The Rev. W.E. Tinson will officiate.

Powell

GREENVILLE — Funeral services for the Rev. Eugene P. "E.P." Powell, 81, of Greenville will be Saturday at noon at O'Bannon High School Gymnatorium, Greenville. He died Dec. 10, 2002, at his home. Burial will be in Delta Memorial Gardens, Greenville, under the direction of Redmon Funeral Home, Greenville.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Lucille Dixon Powell of Greenville; three sons, Allen Powell, Shelby (Emma) Powell Sr. and Shelly (Shirley Turner) Powell, all of Greenville; one daughter, Doris Powell Joiner of Greenville; two special nieces whom he raised, Mary Lee Thomas and Augustine Johnson, both of Greenville; one sister, Calmetta Proctor of Greenville; one brother, Prentis Powell of Greenville; four special grandchildren, Jacqueline D. Powell of Las Vegas and Sharron S. Moore, Shelby Powell Jr. and Wesley Eugene Powell, all of Greenville; 20 other grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; one special nephew, Albert (Essie) Clark of Greenville; his son in the Gospel, the Rev. R.C. (Rosie) Addison of Greenville; a special friend, Roosevelt Field; and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and church members.

Visitation will be Friday from 1 to 5 p.m. at Redmon Funeral Home chapel, Greenville.

The Rev. R.C. Addison will officiate.

Ratliff

INDIANOLA — Funeral services for Henry Ratliff Sr., 74, of Indianola will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Dillon Funeral Home chapel, Indianola. He died Dec. 7, 2002, at Indianola Health and Rehabilitation Center. Burial will be in Riverside Memorial Gardens, Indianola.

Survivors include seven sons, James (Patricia) Gordon of Ohio, Charlie (Verlee) Ratliff of Indianola, Andrew (Maggie) Ratliff of Itta Bena, Henry Ratliff of Greenville, J.B. (Hazel) Ratliff and Wayne Ratliff, both of St. Louis, Mo., and Alex (Debra) Ratliff of Shaw; three daughters, Annie Mae Gordon of Ohio, Lillie Ratliff of Indianola and Mary (Richard) McClung of Indiana; one brother, Leslie Ratliff Jr. of Ruleville; his stepmother, Ella Ratliff of Sunflower; 52 grandchildren; and 30 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be Friday from 1 to 6 p.m. at Dillon Funeral Home chapel, Indianola.

The Rev. Johnny Moore will officiate.

Shanklin

INVERNESS — Funeral arrangements for Ella Shanklin, 70, of Inverness are pending at Byas Funeral Home, Indianola. She died Dec. 11, 2002, at Greenwood Leflore Hospital, Greenwood.

Spragins

MINTER CITY — Funeral services for Homer Franklin Spragins Jr., 82, of Minter City will be Friday at 10 a.m. at Wilson & Knight Funeral Home chapel, Greenwood. He died Dec. 10, 2002, at his home. Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Greenwood.

Mr. Spragins was a native and lifelong resident of Minter City, Miss. He was a 1942 graduate of Mississippi State University, where he was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity, the M Club and played basketball and baseball for the Bulldogs. He played professional baseball for the Philadelphia Phillies in the late 1940s. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II, and was stationed at Eglin Air Force Base, Fla. He was a member of the Greenwood Kiwanis Club and was a lifetime member of the Minter City United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his spouse of 58 years, Imogene Henley Spragins of Minter City; two sons, Dr. William H. Spragins of Hollandale and Gene Franklin Spragins of Marion, Ark.; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Visitation will be today from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Minter City United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 113, Minter City, Miss.

The Rev. Jimmy Stauddy will officiate.

Thrash

GREENVILLE — Funeral arrangements for the Rev. O.T. Thrash, 88, of Greenville are pending at Redmon Funeral Home, Greenville. He died Dec. 11, 2002, at his home.

Triplett

GREENVILLE — Funeral services for Pauline Triplett, 70, of Greenville and formerly of Leland will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at J.L. Featherston Progressive Baptist Convention Center, 238 Thomas St., Greenville. She died Dec. 8, 2002, at The King's Daughters Hospital, Greenville. Burial will be in Pilgrim Home Memorial Cemetery, Old Tribbett Road, under the direction of Redmon Funeral Home, Greenville.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mennen Tisdale and Carrie Strong Tisdale; one son, J.T. Triplett; and one great-grandson, Justin Kyle Triplett.

Survivors include her husband, Willie C. Triplett of Greenville; three sons, James (Shirley) Tisdale of Tampa, Fla., Jessie (Virgil) Tisdale of Atlanta, Ga., and Joe Nathan (Shirley) Tisdale of Greenville; four daughters, Mildred (James) McCoy, Rose Maria (Bernard) Lane and Tammie (Darnell) Cosey, all of Atlanta, Ga., and Glenda (Vernon) Jackson of Greenville; a daughter-in-law, Alberta Triplett Luckett of Greenville; one goddaughter, Annette (James) Nelson of Greenville; 14 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three brothers, Otis Tisdale of Orlando, Fla., Wilkins Tisdale of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Willie (Linda) Tisdale) of Hazelhurst, Ill.; six sisters, Rosetta Graham of Kingstree, S.C., and Annie Dozier, Elizabeth Tisdale, Lena Reed, Bessie Moore and Arletha Morgan, all of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; one godsister, Daisy Davenport of Greenville; two aunts, Lorene Tisdale of Kingstree, S.C., and Martha Robinson of Rochester, N.Y.; one uncle, William Strong of Rochester, N.Y.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, numerous Christian sisters, brothers, friends, neighbors and other loved ones.

Visitation will be Friday from 1 to 5 p.m. at Redmon Funeral Home chapel, Greenville. The remains will lie in state at the church Saturday from 10 to 11 a.m.

The Rev. Charlie Johnson will officiate.
