The following is a prayer Katherine carried with her every day.
Good Morning, God.
You're ushering in another day
Untouched and freshly new
And so I come to ask you, God
That you'd renew me too.
Forgive the many errors
That I made yesterday
And help me try again, Dear God
To walk closer in Thy way.
But, Father, I am well aware
I can't make it on my own,
So, take my hand and hold it tight
For I can't walk alone.
In Jesus Name, Amen

Della Rae French
ARVADA, Wyo. - Della Rae French was born Aug. 26, 1919, to William Ray and Sylvia Gertrude West, in the family's log cabin on the Lightning Flats in Crook County, Wyo. Her birth certificate was filled in by her father's cursive handwriting and witnessed by the midwife Gertrude Closson.
Della Rae grew up during the Great Depression when there were permit high schools and correspondence courses available. She was fortunate to have one of the small libraries, which President Roosevelt had felt necessary for rural communities, at her folks' home.
In August of '37, Della Rae married Henry French. They herded sheep and worked on ranches. One was at Miles City, the second largest ranch in Montana and incredibly lonely for a woman with a small child. In '52, they bought a ranch at Arvada which they lost after their cattle were condemned with brucellosis, which was brought in by pastured cows. In '62, Henry and Della Rae divorced.
Previously in '58, Della Rae was appointed Postmaster of Arvada Post Office and continued in that position for 26 years. This enabled her to raise her children - three teenagers and two little ones.
Della Rae believed that our Heavenly Father holds us steady so we can face what is before us. If there was a Sunday School or church near, she served in it as teacher, pianist, and janitor as needed. She had Sunday School in her house in Arvada for a time. Della Rae was also president of Arvada Farm Bureau - the short time it was there.
A resident of Arvada, Della Rae spent her last days at her daughter Ellen Widhalm's home in Great Falls, Mont., due to cancer. She passed away Feb. 13, 1999, in Ellen's home.
