Dorothy Berry
BUFFALO, Wyo. - Announcing the peaceful passing of 90-year-old Dorothy Berry, or "Mrs. B" as she was known to friends and family. She will be met on the other side by her parents, her brother and her husband, Commander Fred Berry, United States Navy. She leaves behind five great-grandchildren, three grandchildren and a daughter and son-in--law, Dorothy and Dwight Knott of Buffalo, who will greatly miss her.

Wilma M. Hogan
LAVINA - Wilma Mae Hogan, 81, of Lavina passed away at the Deaconess Medical Center in Billings, Saturday, June 12, 1999.
Wilma was born Jan. 12, 1918, in Ryegate, the daughter of Joseph L. Barker and Delilah (Owens) Barker. She was raised in Ryegate and Lavina and attended schools in Barber and Ryegate.
On Oct. 17, 1936, she married Elmer Hogan in Billings.
They lived in Joliet and moved to Lompoc, Calif., in 1959. They came back to Montana in 1975.
Wilma worked for McKesson-Robbins in Billings for several years, retiring in 1959.
She was a member of the Lavina Methodist Church and the Eastern Star.
Survivors include her five sisters: Vivian Glenney of Roundup, Ella Loga of Lavina, Dolores Swartz of Broadview, Faye Badgett of Broadview and Mrs. Don Wertz (Phyllis) of Broadview.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer in 1996, her parents, four brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 16, at the Lavina Methodist Church. Visitation will be at Smith West Chapel, 304 34th St. West from 1 p.m. Tuesday to noon on Wednesday. Interment at the Lavina cemetery. Memorials to the Lavina Methodist Church or the Lavina Senior Center.

Reinhold Kembel
Reinhold Kembel, age 87, of 3306 Coulson Road passed away Friday evening, June 11, 1999, at Eagle Cliff Manor following an extended illness of cancer.
He was born Oct. 6, 1911, in Huntley, the son of Jacob and Mary Kembel. He was raised in the Yellowstone Valley and on May 9, 1932, married Freda Bernhardt in Forsyth. They farmed on the Billings Heights and Lockwood until retiring in 1976. Freda preceded him in death Oct. 25, 1992.
Reinhold found joy in his farming and cattle, both dairy and beef. Until his illness prevented him, he also continued to garden. He took pride and joy in his family. He enjoyed playing "Pitch" with all his family.
He was a member of American Lutheran Church.
Survivors include one daughter and husband, Janie and Toby Glenn of Hamilton; three sons: Wilbur and wife, Darlene Kembel of Billings, Reinie Kembel and fiance, Rayne Thomas of Bismarck; Jim and wife Judy Kembel of Helena; 10 grandchildren: Marcia Strever, Michelle Mattfeldt, Russell Kembel, Michael Mehling, Monica Kembel, Clifford Kembel, Steve Kembel, Duane Kembel, Angela Atkinson, and Wendy Bingham; eight great-grandchildren: Heidi Weigum, Billy Strever, Hillary and Ashley Kembel, Samantha Mattfeldt, Mike'la Atkinson, Kalli Kembel and Madison Kembel; one great-great-grandchild, Haylee Weigum; three brothers: Clarence Kembel, Carl Kembel, and Raymond Kembel, all of Billings; two sisters: Mary Lane and Pauline Staley, both of Billings, and a sister-in-law, Irene Kembel of Worden, and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 15, at the American Lutheran Church. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, Division St. and Lewis Ave. Memorials to the American Lutheran Church or Big Sky Hospice.

Lucy Amelia Kurtz
MILES CITY - Lucy Amelia Kurtz, 82, died Sunday, June 13, 1999, at the Holy Rosary Extended Care in Miles City.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 17, at the Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home in Bemidji, Minn., with interment following in the Aardahl cemetery.

Madeline Katherine Mattila
RED LODGE - Madeline Katherine Mattila, 91, passed away June 13, 1999, at the Beartooth Health Center. Madeline was born July 8, 1907, the daughter of Biaggio and Teresa Sconfienza in Red Lodge.
She attended school in Red Lodge, and after graduation Madeline studied opera in San Francisco, Calif. She returned to Red Lodge, and married Charles W. Mattila on Aug. 12, 1933.
Madeline was one of the first members of the Italian Girls Victory Club. She was one of the founders of the Festival of Nations, and directed the Italian Program until her health made it impossible.
She was proceeded in death by her husband Charles, her beloved sister Lena DeBourg, and brothers: John, Bazine, and Americo Sconfienza.
Madeline is survived by her daughter, Charlotte Koski of Billings; grandchildren: Teresa Kemp and husband, Bill of Billings, Mike Koski and wife, Lorrie of Columbus, and Scott Koski of Billings; two great-granddaughters: Mikaela Koski and Rebecca-Anne (Denny) Salveson of Billings; and two great-grandsons: Ryan Koski of Columbus and Travis (Alma) Kemp of Billings.
Madeline's love of music, family, and anything Italian certainly enriched all our lives. We'll miss you Mother.
A Funeral Service will be Thursday, June 17, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Agnes Catholic Church Red Lodge. Internment following service at Red Lodge cemetery. Memorials to the Beartooth Health Center, P0 Box 590, Red Lodge, MT 59068.

Virginia Ann McKenney
Virginia Ann McKenney, beloved mother and friend, passed away Sunday morning, June 13, 1999, in Billings, following a long and brave fight with cancer. Mom was born June 24, 1939, in Lynn, Mass., the daughter of Walter and Florence Gardyna.
Virginia worked at Deaconess Hospital in Billings for 17 years. She loved her job and made many friends while working there. Mom was saved on Nov. 7, 1977. She walked with Jesus then and walks with Him now. Mom loved old movies with grand costumes and dancing, but her favorite hobby was gardening. She tended her garden well for she was blessed, surrounded by family and friends until the end. She was preceded in death by her father, Walter Gardyna.
Mom had great love and pride for her children and grandchildren: Joseph McKenney of Great Falls and his children, Nick, Cheryl, and Katie; David and Jennifer McKenney of Billings and their cats; Debora and Mike Stuart of Laurel and their children, Gabe and Mandi; and Matthew and Terri McKenney of Mesa, Ariz., and their children, Stephanie and Andrew. Virginia is also survived by her family in Massachusetts which includes her mother, Florence Gardyna and her sisters, Marion, Cookie, Barbara, and Susan and their families; and her two very special friends, Susan DeBuff and Jackie Limberhand of Billings.
Following cremation, a memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 16, at Simplicity Burial and Cremation Services, 528 Lake Elmo Dr. Private entombment will be in the columbarium of Yellowstone Valley Memorial Park. To honor Virginia's wishes, memorials in lieu of flowers should be directed to Big Sky Hospice, P.O. Box 35033, Billings, MT 59107-5033.

George R. Melby
DAGMAR - George R. Melby, 90, died Friday, June 11, 1999, at Mercy Medical Center in Williston, N.D.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, June 18, at the Coalridge Mennonite Church. Interment will be in the Coalridge Mennonite cemetery.

Elmer J. "Bun" Metz
SHERIDAN, Wyo. - Elmer J. "Bun" Metz, 70, died Thursday, June 10, 1999, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Sheridan.
Private family services were held on Monday, June 14, at St. Peter's Episcopal Church. Champions Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

In Loving Memory of
Stewart 'Bruce' Schuyler
1922-1999
LAS VEGAS, Nev. - Bruce was born Oct. 2, 1922, in Worland, Wyo., and raised in Greybull, Wyo. After high school, he joined the Army and served in World War II, attending the Great Potsdam Conference with President Roosevelt.
On April 14, 1944, in Washington, D.C., Bruce married Viva Gilmore of Greybull and they later moved to Billings, Mont., where their daughter, Cherilyn, was born.
Bruce retired from government service in Boise, Idaho, in 1977 and was a Las Vegas resident for the last few years of his life.
He is survived by his loving daughter, Cherilyn and son-in-law, John Tiberi and grandson, Douglas Kostelic of Las Vegas. Survivors also include his devoted sister-in-law, Patricia Schuyler, Arizona, and many loving nieces and nephews.
Bruce passed away on Memorial Day and a burial service will be held later this summer in Greybull.

Gordon Douglas Smith
LAUREL - Gordon Smith, age 56, passed away June 14, 1999. Gordon's battle with cancer was short. He passed away at home surrounded by family and close friends who loved him. He was born July 8, 1942 in Mites City, to Harry and Marcella Smith. His early years were spent in the Ismay area, attending grade school there and later Sacred Heart High School in Miles City. Following high school, he worked for Haughain Livestock in Terry. It was there he met and later married his wife, Barbara McLean. They later moved to the Billings area where they raised two children, Charles and Imogene. Throughout his life, Gordon lived and worked the life of a cowboy, both in Montana and Wyoming. Gordon's passion for roping assured he would always find time to rope with his arena full of friends. He was well known in the cowboy world for his great knowledge of cattle and horses.
Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Charles and Michele Smith, daughter and son-in-law, Imogene and Tom Martello, grandchildren, Riley and Shelbie, all of Bozeman; his special lady, Diane Sayler, her children, Sarah and Les of Laurel; Barbara Smith of Billings; half-sister, Sarah Wagner and children of Miles City; stepbrother, Jerry O'Daniel and wife, Susan and children; aunt, Jean Stanley of Miles City; and many cousins. Gordon will always be remembered and loved by his many nieces and nephews as "Uncle Gordie." Gordon was proud of his extended families in the Crow and Cheyenne Nations. Gordon was preceded in death by his parents and only brother, Gavin Smith.

Cremation has taken place and a private burial will take place at a later date. Vigil services will be held Wednesday, June 16, 1999, at 7 p.m. at Smith Funeral Chapel in Laurel. Memorial Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 17, 1999, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Laurel.
Donations may be made to Big Sky Hospice. Friends and family are welcome to gather after services at 1123 8th Ave. in Laurel.

Sierra Elizabeth Stahl
FLATWILLOW COLONY - "Every good and perfect gift is from above and cometh down from the father of Lights!" James 1-17
Sierra Elizabeth was given to us Dec. 15, 1998, a precious gift from the Lord! During her short stay on earth Sierra blessed our lives with joy and happiness! The Lord took her home peacefully on June 13, 1999. Goodbye Sierra, our trails will cross again!
Survivors include her parents, Brad and Helen Stahl; grandparents, Ken and Becky Stahl, Mike and Susie Wollman; great-grandpa, Paul Walter of Lodge Grass; great-grandma, Susanna Stahl of Roundup; aunts, Miriam (Reuben) Stahl, Junia, Tammy and Marlene Wollman, Lamara Stahl; uncles, Mick (Debby) Wollman, Toby (Nanny) Stahl, Wesley Stahl; cousins, Roman and Whitney Wollman, Muriah, Sonya and Caleb Stahl; and all her little friends and playmates at the Flatwillow Colony.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, June 15, 1999, at 4 p.m. at the Flatwillow Colony. Interment will be at the Flatwillow Colony cemetery.
Wier Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Walter W. (Dube) Duvall
LANDUSKY - Walter W. (Dube) Duvall, 83, died Friday, June 11, 1999, at the Phillips County Medical Center of natural causes.
Funeral services will be conducted by the family at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 15, at the Landusky Community Hall, with burial in the Landusky cemetery. Adams Funeral Home of Malta in charge of arrangements.
Dube was born in the homestead cabin on his parent's horse ranch at Antelope Springs southwest of Landusky on March 13, 1916, the son of Charles W. and Edna L. (Turner) Duvall. He married Sydne G. Trethewey on Oct. 20, 1934, at Chinook and was looking forward to their 65th anniversary this fall. He worked at different jobs but was always a horse rancher in earlier years. The last 30 years he and Sydne were the caretakers of the Little Rockies Christian Camp.
Dube was proud to be counted in the ranks of a rare breed of cowboys known as Filly Chasers - they rounded up and broke wild horses off the open range. He recounted his memories in a book published in 1992 "Memories Of A Filly Chaser". He enjoyed carving with Diamond Willows.
Survivors include his wife, Sydne of Landusky; son and daughter-in-law, Sam W. and Roberta Duvall of Wolf Point; daughters and sons-in-law: Betty D. Campbell of Lodge Pole, Edna G. Smith of Wolf Point, Helen D. Arthur of Great Falls, Beulah M. and Roger Oelke of Sumner, Wash., Margaret (Peggy) and Joe Sorensen of Wolf Point, Wanda L. and Walter Doney of Puyallup, Wash., Della R.D. McConnell of Missoula, Lorna J. Moreno of Havre; 35 grandchildren; 84 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Pansy G. Hilger
GLENDIVE - Pansy G. Hilger, age 94, of Glendive, passed away on Sunday, June 13, 1999, at Eastern Montana Veterans Home in Glendive. Memorial Services will be held on Wednesday, June 16, at 2 p.m. at the First Congregational Church in Glendive with Pastor Stephen Holmes officiating. Private family interment will be held in the Dawson County cemetery. Silvernale-Silha Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements.
Pansy was born on Sept. 21, 1904, in Port Huron, Mich., the daughter of Ernest and Bessie (VanLuven) Glyshaw. She attended school and graduated from Richey High School. In January of 1925, she married R. J. "Bert" Hilger in Wolf Point. They moved to Glendive in 1936 and purchased the Chevrolet dealership. She was involved with the American Cancer Society on the state and local level. Pansy was past Worthy Matron of the Glendive Eastern Star, and a member of First Congregational Church in Glendive.
In 1958 the Hilger's bought and managed the Cactus Gardens Lodge in Wickenburg, Ariz. Later they returned to Montana and built the Travelodge Motel in Billings. In 1971 they retired in Mesa, Ariz.
Survivors include her son, Henry D. "Bob" Hilger and his wife, Martha of Glendive; two granddaughters: Gayle Schuch and her husband, John of Lamberton, Minn., and Karen Hoffmann and her husband, Jim of Conrad; two grandsons: David Hilger and his wife, Rita of Sidney, and Robert Michael Hilger and his wife, Connie of Glendive; eight great-grandchildren: Jeffery, Troy and Erin Steen, Nathan and Matthew Hoffmann, Robin and Nelson Hilger, and Ward Madsen.
Pansy was preceded in death by her husband in 1983 and son, Clarence in 1946, and three brothers.
Memorials may be made to the First Congregational Church, 120 West Power Street, Glendive, Montana 59330, or the donor's choice.
