Hazel Isabelle Cropsey
BASIN, Wyo. - Hazel Isabelle Cropsey, 84, died Monday, June 21, 1999, at her home.
Visitation will be 1-5 p.m. Wednesday, June 23, at the Atwood Family Funeral Chapel. Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 24, at the United Methodist Church with interment in Mount View cemetery.

Michael Ray Dickson
HAZELTON, Pa. - Michael Dickson, age 32, son of Bill and Margaret Dickson of Colstrip, Mont., passed away at St. Joseph Hospital in Hazelton on Saturday, June 20, 1999.
Michael was born in Craig, Colo., on May 15, 1967. Michael is survived by his parents, Bill and Margaret Dickson, Colstrip; his son, Justin, Butte, Mont.; sister, Allison Chaffin (husband, Kurt) of Denver; brother, Will (wife, Nicole) Logan, Utah, and brother, Alan, Logan; maternal grandparents, Mike and Dorothy Thomas, Savery, Wyo.; two nephews, Kyle and Nicholas and one niece, Grace; aunts and uncles: Barbara and Dale Moncur, Colstrip; Hazel Woodward, Vancouver, Wash.; Marilyn Croy, Lovell, Wyo.; Gloria Dickson, Thermopolis, Wyo.; Elaine and Allan Harvey, Lovell, Wyo.; Brian and Linnea Dickson, Lovell; Val and Andrea Dickson, Laramie, Wyo.; John and Chris Thomas, Savery; and numerous cousins.
Though his life was filled with many struggles, he will always be remembered for his continual strivings to overcome the challenges placed before him.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, June 25, in Lovell at Haskell Funeral Home; internment will follow at the Lovell cemetery. Memorials may be sent to the Yellowstone Treatment Center, 1732 S. 72nd W., Billings, MT 59106 and to Shodair, 2755 Colonial Drive, Helena, MT 59601.

Margaret M. Hilgers Huestis
ANACONDA - Margaret M. Hilgers Huestis, longtime resident of Anaconda, passed away Sunday, June 20, 1999, in Laurel after a long battle with Parkinson's Disease. Margaret was born Feb. 3, 1917, in Anaconda to Edna Stebbins Hilgers and Peter Hilgers.
Margaret is survived by her husband, Edward; and her five children and their families: Ed and Sylvia Huestis and son Jason of Elkridge, Md.; Fred and Carol Huestis of Lancaster, Ohio; Marilyn Huestis of Laurel; Peggy Morgan of Dallas, Texas, and sons, Bill and Robert; and Monica and Bob Abbott and children, Christopher and Kathryn of Helena.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the National Parkinson Foundation, Inc., Donations Department, c/o Ivonne Valiente, 1501 N. W. 9th Ave., Miami, FL 33136-1494.
Friends may call to pay their respects in the Longfellow Finnegan Funeral Home beginning today, Wednesday, at 4 p.m. The Parish Vigil Service will be held in the Funeral Home at 7 p.m. The Funeral will begin in the Longfellow Finnegan Funeral Home Thursday, June 24, at 10:15 a.m. and proceed to St. Peter Church where the Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet cemetery.

Hugh L. Mailloux
GLENDIVE - Hugh L. Mailloux, age 78, of Glendive, and formerly of Billings, died on Monday, June 21, 1999, at the Eastern Montana Veteran's Nursing Home in Glendive.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 26, 1999, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Glendive with Father Joseph Ponessa officiating. Rite of Committal will be in the Montana State Veterans cemetery at Fort Harrison. Silvernale-Silha Funeral Home of Glendive is entrusted with arrangements.
Hugh was born on Nov. 15, 1920, in rural Verona, N.D., the son of Edgar and Ethel (McCann) Mailloux. After high school, he served in the Civilian Conservation Corps in Cass Lake, Minn., before serving in the 11th Armored Division in Europe during World War II. After returning to North Dakota following the war, he began a lifelong working career in highway construction, with service to the W.H. Noel Co. of Jamestown, N.D., and Schultz & Lindsay Construction Co. of Fargo, N.D., and Billings.
Hugh was married to Helen Klose of Jamestown in 1951. He had lived in Billings since 1963, but was forced to enter the nursing home following a recurrence of cancer.
Survivors include a daughter, Denise Kessel and her husband, Bill of Belfield, N.D., and his sons, Gary Mailloux and his wife, Karen of Fargo, Timothy Mailloux and his wife, MaryAnn of Lincoln, Terrence Mailloux of Missoula, and Thomas Mailloux and his wife, Robin of Aberdeen, S.D.; two sisters, Rita Backman and her husband, John of Pierce, Neb., and Edith Olstad and her husband, David of Hastings, Minn.; three brothers, Raphael Mailloux of Carlton, Texas, Jack Mailloux of Bothell, Wash., and Neil Mailloux of Monroe, Ind.; 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Hugh was preceded in death by his wife in 1987; an infant son, Dennis Hugh in 1952; two sisters and one brother.

Mayme E. Miller
LODGE GRASS - Mayme E. Miller, 85, longtime Lodge Grass area resident, passed away Monday evening, June 21, 1999, in the Valley Health Care Center in Billings.
She was born Aug. 1, 1913, in Cascade, Neb., a daughter of Lee and Ruth Ruff Keller. She grew up and attended schools in Nebraska and Colorado, before graduating from Lodge Grass High School in 1932. Following her education, she lived and worked in the Lodge Grass area.
Mayme married W. Earle Miller on Sept. 22, 1934, in Lodge Grass and the family made their home southwest of Lodge Grass. She was a devoted wife, mother and housewife.
She was a member of the Jasmine Chapter Order of Eastern Star, Mountain View Club and the Lodge Grass Grandmothers Club.
Survivors include her husband, Earle; two daughters, Marian Miller of Billings and Laura Ruth (Charles) McGlothlin of Park City; one son, William Lee (Mary) Miller of Lodge Grass; one sister, Ruth (Lawrence) Kreiger of Billings; seven grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Friday in the Bullis Funeral Chapel. Entombment will follow in the Mountain View cemetery. Bullis Mortuary of Hardin has been entrusted with the arrangements.
Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to the Shrine Transportation Fund or to the Big Horn County Historical Society.

Ruth LaNae Monkman
Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 24, 1999, at the United Methodist Church in Choteau for Ruth LaNae Monkman, age 85, of Billings, and former long-time resident of Choteau who died Monday, June 21, 1999, at the Aspen Meadows Nursing Home in Billings of natural causes. Rev. Ira Robison will be officiating. Interment will follow in the Chateau cemetery under the direction of Gorder Funeral Home of Choteau. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 23, and from 9 a.m. to noon Thursday, June 24, at the Funeral Home.
Ruth was born Dec. 13, 1913, in Great Falls the daughter of William J. and Eva (Polglase) Tretheway. She was raised and educated in Great Falls and graduated from high school there.
During the last year of school she worked for the Equitable Life Insurance Co. as part of her schooling and then moved to Choteau to work for Equitable Life. She then moved back to Great Falls for a year until 1936, when she married Charles Gibson "Gib" Monkman on May 31, 1936, in Great Falls. After her marriage she moved back to Choteau and was a homemaker for a few years and then went to work for the Nelson Insurance Agency for a number of years. She then accepted a job as the secretary for the superintendent of schools in Chateau and worked there for 12 years. She then semi-retired and worked for Charles Joslyn, who was then the county attorney until her retirement.
She enjoyed oil painting; knitting; crocheting; and making cinnamon rolls for her children's school classes. She also enjoyed traveling with her husband, square dancing, playing bridge and spending the winters in California, which she and her husband did for 21 years. She also enjoyed entertaining friends and family. She and her husband celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary on May 23, 1999.
She was active in the United Methodist Church for over 60 years as well as the United Methodist Women's Group. She was also a 65 year member of the Rebekah Lodge in Choteau.
She is survived by her husband, Charles "Gib" Monkman of Billings; a son, Gerry Monkman of Ridgefield, Wash.; a daughter, Beverly Charlton of Billings; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a grandson, Rock Charlton; a sister and a brother.
Memorials are suggested to the Intermountain Children's Home, 500 S. Lambert, Helena, MT 59601 or to a charity of the donor's choice.

Leo Glenn Sjostrom
CUSTER - Leo Glenn Sjostrom was born in Glendive, July 5, 1917, eldest of five born to Lars J. and Sadie L. Baxter Sjostrom of Jordan. He rushed into this world prematurely as his parents were traveling from Jordan to Sioux Pass.
Leo graduated from Garfield County High School in 1936, and moved to Custer to work with his father. He married Hilda Ione Rogge, Sept. 20, 1938. He worked for Levi Mead in Pease Bottom and returned to Custer in 1941, farming there until retirement.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Hilda; four sons, Milton Glenn (Betty) of Hardin, Martin Leo (Jonnetta) of Fort Smith, Melvin John (Alice) of Custer, and Marvin Ross of Custer; six grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and sister, Opal (Mark) Rubich of Billings. He was preceded in death by his parents; great-grandson; and three brothers, Cecil, Lytle and Calvin Sjostrom.
Memorial is 11 a.m. Saturday at Custer Congregational Church. Memorials may be made to Custer Volunteer Fire Dept. or EMT's. Cremation and arrangements were by Cremation or Funeral Gallery.

Vern E. 'Bus' Woodward
Vernon E. "Bus" Woodward, of 725 N. 25th, Billings, died Sunday, June 20, 1999, at Billings Deaconess Hospital of complications from a stroke. He was 92 years old.
Bus was born on June 4, 1907, in Forsyth, the son of Bert F. Woodward and Nancy Belle (Anderson) Woodward. When he was 2 years old, his parents divorced and he moved to Laurel with his mom. His mom soon married J.J. McFadden. Bus grew up in Laurel and graduated from Laurel High School in 1924. He obtained the nickname "Buster" because his parents thought he looked like the comic strip character "Buster Brown." The name stuck and he was known to his close friends as Buster all of his life.
Following high school, Bus attended the University of Oklahoma for two years until the death of his stepfather. Following the death of his stepfather, Bus returned to Montana to comfort and help support his mom. He always regretted not having finished his education and preached the love of learning and the necessity of an education to his children and grandchildren.
On Sept. 8, 1936, he married Margaret Webb of Big Timber. Together they had four children. The family lived in Greybull, Laurel, Missoula, and, finally Billings. He was proud to say that all of his children obtained college educations.
Bus is survived by his four children: Judy Feiden of Great Falls; Virginia Gross and her husband, Mike of Billings; Vern Woodward and his wife, Kathy of Billings; and Leslie Ridgeway and her husband, Rick of Sand Point, Idaho. He is also survived by his 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. His parents and his wife preceded him in death.
Bus was a member of the American Legion, the Masonic Temple, and of the Scottish Rite. He prided himself on his unimpeachable honesty, his kindness to others, and on his unyielding loyalty to his friends and family. He counted being a "good father" as his greatest achievement.
Memorial services will be at the First English Lutheran Church on Thursday, June 24, at 9 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to the Billings American Legion Baseball Program or to the Yellowstone Boys & Girls Ranch.

Dorothy A. Cody
WOLF POINT - Dorothy Ann DiGirolamo Cody left this world to join her Lord and Family in Heaven on Friday morning, May 28.
In Heaven she joins her loving mother, Martha McClernon; stepfather, Patrick J. McClernon; father, William DiGirolamo; her husband, Leo A. Cody; and her son, Joseph Todd Cody; along with those who also have gone before her.
Behind on Earth, she leaves a legacy of family, friends and all whose lives she has touched in some way. She is survived by seven sons: Tim and Terry (Kim) of Wolf Point; Tracy (Karen) of Upland, Calif.; Tom (Tiny) of Poplar; Leo (Sheryl) of Gaylord, Mich.; Troy (Michelle) of Fairmont, Minn.; and Dennis of San Diego, Calif.; three daughters: Toni of Billings; Tina (Kevin) of Fargo, N.D.; Martha (Jim) of Grand Forks, N.D.; three half-sisters, Janice, Madelynn, and Cathy, and half-brother, Bill Jr.; and 21 grandchildren.
In her life, Dorothy accomplished many things, but probably her greatest accomplishment was the fact that she raised seven of 10 children in the family home after her husband passed away in 1976. She will be remembered by many and missed by all.
She not only served her Lord and family but was involved in politics for many years. She was a member of the Montana State Legislature, serving District 20 from 1983-1991. She also served Roosevelt County as its Assessor from 1992-1994, and until her recent retirement due to her health was Roosevelt County Commissioner from 1994-1999.
Everywhere she went, Dorothy left her mark and gave of herself totally. What the Earth has lost Heaven has gained twice-fold. We all await the day that we can again share in her life in the place we know as Heaven. We will continue on in our Earthly journeys with the three main gifts she has left us - faith, hope, and love - with the greatest of these - Love. Dorothy requested that memorials be sent to the Basket of Hope Food Bank, 208 Eureka St., Wolf Point, MT 59201.
Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 2, 1999, at the Immaculate Conception Church in Wolf Point. Visitations will be held on Tuesday, June 1, from 1 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. at Clayton Memorial Chapel in Wolf Point. Vigil services with Rosary will be on Tuesday, June 1, at 6:45 p.m. at Clayton Memorial Chapel, Father Steve Zabrocki officiating. Interment will be in Greenwood cemetery. A luncheon will be at the Sherman Motor Inn following the burial. Clayton Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Eugene Thomas Ryan Sr.
POPLAR - In loving memory of Eugene "Gene" Thomas Ryan Sr., who went home to be with the Lord on May 27, 1999, in Poplar.
Gene was born on Aug. 1, 1939, in Sisseton, S.D. He grew up in Mission, S.D., with foster parents, Charlotte and Bill Colombe and attended school in St. Francis, S.D. He served as an Altar Boy for seven years at Sisseton. He moved to Poplar in 1960 and spent the remainder of his life there. He worked as a welder, construction worker, fire fighter for BIA of Fort Peck Reservation, and janitor for the Poplar School District.
Gene enjoyed fire fighting for many years. He also enjoyed fishing, taking care of his lawn, gardening, and spending time with his children.
He was preceded in death by both parents, Thomas Ryan and Margaret Blodgette; one sister, Patricia San Diego; one brother, Robert Ryan; and a son, Eugene "Chiefy" Thomas Ryan Jr. He is survived by his wife, Roberta "Bobby" Ryan, two daughters, Lanette Pribbernow and Gina (Ryan) Bear Fighter, one stepdaughter, Jo-Jo Frederick, all of Poplar; one son, Joshua Wade Ryan of Poplar; three stepsons, Joe and Shane Frederick of Poplar and Shawn Frederick of Bremerton, Wash.; and 11 grandchildren.
We all loved Gene very much, we will miss him very much, especially his humor.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 1, and 10 a.m. at the Assembly of God Church in Poplar. Visitations will be held on Monday, May 31, from 3:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. with a prayer service following at 7 p.m. at the Assembly of God Church in Poplar, Pastor Roger Hunt officiating. Interment will be in the Poplar City cemetery. Clayton Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Hope Marie Suko
HARDIN - Hope Marie Suko, 20, of Hardin, formerly of Billings, died at her home Tuesday evening May 25, 1999.
She was born Jan. 14, 1979, in Hardin, a daughter of Harold Suko and Carol Ryder. She grew up and attended area schools, graduating from Billings Senior High School in 1998.
Hope was an angel on earth and will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
Survivors include her parents, Harold Suko of Kalispell and Carol Ryder of Hardin; a brother, Robert of Hardin; her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Irvin Suko and Mr. and Mrs. William Ryder of Billings.
Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Saturday in the Bullis Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow in the Fairview cemetery. Bullis Mortuary of Hardin has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Daniel Joseph Sullivan
BOZEMAN - Daniel Joseph Sullivan, 57, passed away Thursday, May 27, at Bozeman Deaconess Hospital after battling lymphoma. He was born in Laurium, Mich., on Aug. 28, 1941, to P. Joseph and Edna Salonen Sullivan. He attended school in the Copper Country, graduating from Sacred Heart High School in 1959. In 1964 he married Patricia Kallio in Calumet. In 1967 he graduated from Michigan Technological University with a degree in biological science. His fascination with biology led him to many places, including California, Alaska, and Colorado, where he worked as a lab or field technician.
Wittney & Co. of Denver trained him for his ultimate career in the veterinary pharmaceutical business. In 1974 he and his family moved from Boulder, Colo., to Billings, then to Bozeman in 1977. From his days with Jensen-Salsbery Labs in 1974 until his retirement from Mallinckrodt in 1997, his high achievement in sales earned him national recognition. Territories over the years included parts of Colorado, Nebraska, Kansas, North Dakota, Utah, Wyoming, and Montana. He also served as a national sales trainer and an ag dealer/rancher educator. In 1998 he helped to establish a sales distributorship for Western Veterinary Supply in Billings.
Accepting life's challenges in a larger-than-life fashion, his exuberance for living inspired those around him. He enjoyed people and always had a good story to share. Showing his love of the outdoors through fishing, hunting, Nordic skiing, and scuba diving, he also imparted it to his family. The family cabin on Michigan's Lake Superior, which he and friends built, provides a special retreat.
Dan lived life to the fullest, keeping a sense of adventure. His friends and family have many precious memories and will always remember his inimitable spirit. His faith was strong, and he was ever grateful for God's presence in his life. preceded in death by his parents, he is survived by his wife, Pat, and daughter Noelle of Bozeman; son, Brendan of Tucson, Ariz., and son, Clarke of Missoula; along with several aunts and numerous cousins.
Memorials in his name may be made to the Montana Wildlife Federation, P.O. Box 1175, Helena, MT 59624; the Montana Wilderness Association, 321 E. Main, Suite 500, Bozeman, MT 59715; or the Gideons International, P.O. Box 1384, Bozeman, MT 59771. A memorial service will be held at Dokken-Nelson Sunset Chapel in Bozeman at 1 p.m. on June 11, 1999.
