Virginia F. Schroeder
HARDIN - Virginia Faye Schroeder, 70, of Hardin passed away Sunday, April 11, 1999, following a short illness.
She was born in Hardin on Feb. 10, 1929, to Thomas L. and Zelma Eggart Hamilton. She attended school in Parkman, Wyo., and later graduated from Lodge Grass High School in 1949. She received her B.A. in Elementary Education from Eastern Montana College in 1969 and taught school for over thirty years in Lodge Grass, Wyola, Crow Agency and Hardin.
Virginia married Les Schroeder on August 28, 1949, in Billings and the couple made their home in Hardin.
Survivors include her husband, Leslie of Hardin; a son, Tom of Hardin; a daughter, Nancy (Parker) Williams of Bridger; and grandchildren Kim (Dustin) Will, Aaron Schroeder, Dan, Mitch and Duncan Williams; and her mother, Zelma Schaubel.
Cremation has taken place. Memorial Funeral Services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday at the First Congregational Church with Rev. Bill Tibbs, officiating.
Family requests memorials to the American Cancer Society, Big Horn County Museum or to the Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority.

Earl G. Green Jr.
Earl G. Green Jr., 76, passed away Thursday, April 8, 1999, at the Veterans Medical Center in Sheridan, Wyo.
Earl was born on Dec. 14, 1922, to Earl Gordon and Emma Rebecca (Forysth) Green on the ranch near Melville. He was educated and graduated from Sweet Grass County High School. Earl served in the U. S. Navy from December of 1942 to June of 1945. He was united in married to Edna Ruth Lavold on Jan. 12, 1950, in Billings. In 1984 Earl retired from the Billings Post Office. He was a member of the Melville Lutheran Church; Doric Lodge #53 A.F. and A.M.; American Legion Post #19, Big Timber. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, horseback riding and refinishing furniture.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and two sisters.
Survivors include his wife Edna of the home in Billings; two daughters: Barbara and her husband Scotty Keim of Billings, and Rebecca "Becky" and her husband Richard Sidwell of Columbus; one sister, Kathryn Lowry of Big Timber; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, April 13, at Lowry Funeral Home with Pastor Tom Peterman officiating the services. Interment will follow in Mountain View cemetery.
Memorials can be made to: Sheridan VAMC Nursing Home Care Unit, 1898 Fort Road, Sheridan, Wyoming 82801 or Al Bedoo Shrine Transportation Fund, 1125 Broadwater, Billings, Montana 59102.

Nellie Benson Overbo
LEWISTOWN - Nellie Benson Overbo Cornelius born Dec. 18, 1908, in North Loup, Neb., to Neil and Josephine Jane (Purdum) Benson died April 9, 1999, in Lewistown.
In 1918 her family moved to Sheridan, Wyo. They moved to a homestead North of Ashland in 1919 and to Hardin in 1924; she graduated from Hardin High School in 1928 and attended Eastern Montana Normal School 1928 to 1929.
She taught school 1929 to 1930 on the North Bench near Hardin. She married George Overbo on June 12, 1930, in Absarokee. She graduated from EMC in May 1941. She then taught rural schools around Absarokee and Hardin and the last school in 1945 was Pine Hill school in Lockwood, which closed the spring of 1945. The fall of 1945 she began working for the Public Welfare Department until 1948. In 1948 she started a child care in her home with 14 children. In 1950 the children's nursery moved to the Chris Yegan Mansion in Billings. In 1951 she started her nursing home which she operated 23 years.
In 1952 she married Roy Cornelius and he preceded her in death in the fall of 1972.
She was one of the founders of the Montana Nursing Home Association which started in 1956 and was the first president.
She enjoyed decapague, sewing, and in the fall of 1993 published "Indian Trails", a book about pictures of the Crow and Northern Cheyenne Indians her father had taken between 1923 to 1926.
She moved to the nursing home in Lewistown in April 1998.
She was past Regent Shining Mountain Chapter DAR, and Colonial Dames of the 17th Century.
Survivors include her daughters: Serina Jane Becker of Billings, Norma (David) Robertson of Lewistown and Esther Van Noy of Tacoma, Wash; grandchildren: Randy Becker, Gary (Bonnie) Becker, Becky (Tom) McKennett, David (Faith) Robertson, Dan (Karen) Robertson, Douglas (Joyce) Myers and Eirica (Brian) Moriarty; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 13, at the Smith West Chapel, 302 34th St. West. Interment will be at Terrace Gardens cemetery. Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. Sunday at Smith Downtown Chapel.

Robert H. Renz
POPLAR - Robert H. Renz, 82, died Saturday, April 10, 1999, at his home.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, April 12, at Clayton Memorial Chapel in Wolf Point, with a Vigil service at 7 p.m. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 13, at the Immaculate Conception Church in Wolf Point. Interment will be in the Poplar City cemetery.

Elizabeth "Betty" Romine
SARPY - Elizabeth "Betty" Romine, 80, of the Sarpy area, passed away in the Big Horn County Memorial Nursing Home, Saturday morning, April 10, 1999.
She was born Aug. 11, 1918, in Napoleon, N.D., a daughter of George and Margaret Werner Job. She came to the Custer area with her parents in 1936. She worked as a waitress in Custer for a time and in 1940 moved to Hardin where she worked at the Chuck Wagon Cafe and later at Ping's Clothing Store. She lived with her family north of Hardin.
Elizabeth married James Romine on Sept. 23, 1943 in Billings, and the couple made their home on the Sarpy Creek ranch. Her husband, Jim, was in the U.S. Navy and she lived in Chicago and other places where he was stationed. Later she was employed at the Boeing Air Craft factory during WW II. Upon her husband's discharge the family returned to the Sarpy ranch in 1946 where they have since resided. Betty and her husband owned and operated the Spring Creek Tavern from 1974 until 1990. Mr. Romine died in 1998.
Survivors include two sons: Lary (Joyce) Romine of Bridger, "Pete" E. Scott (Veronica) Romine of Sarpy Creek; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; nine brothers: John (LaRene) of Boron, Calif., Jake (Mabel) of Tuscahoma, Okla., Tony (Ruth) of Bullhead City, Ariz., George of Laurel, Joseph (Margie) of Missoula, Frank (Jenny) of Chewelah, Wash., Ben (Pat) of Florence, Eugene (Josie) of Las Vegas, Nev., and Leo (Vivian) of Missoula; four sisters: Mickie Carlton of Bullhead City, Ariz., Mary (Bob) Kerrick of Hardin, Ann (Al) Kirschenmann of Billings, and Delores (Tony) Gress of Stevensville.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband, and a son, Darrell Allen.
Funeral services for Elizabeth "Betty" Romine will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 14, in the Bullis Funeral Chapel. Interment will be in Custer Battlefield National cemetery. Should friends desire, memorials may be made to the Big Horn County Nursing Home or to the charity of their choice. Bullis Mortuary of Hardin is entrusted with Funeral arrangements.

Robert W. Swenson
Robert W. Swenson, 76, of Billings died Sunday, April 11, 1999, at Deaconess Medical Center.
The son of Melvin and Esther Swenson, he was born July 10, 1922, in St. Paul, Minn. He served in the U. S. Navy during WW II.
Bob married Mary Lee Dial in Detroit Lakes, Minn., in 1947. In 1976 they moved to Billings where they owned a food brokerage business, retiring in 1982.
After retirement he enjoyed wood working and showing his crafts at craft shows, and spending winters in Arizona.
Survivors include his wife, Mary of Billings; one brother, Donald and wife, Arlene of St. Paul, Minn.; two sisters: Mary Theno and husband Roger of St. Paul, and Janet Atwater of Forest Lake, Minn.; and nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Tuesday, April 13, at the Smith West Chapel, 304 34th St. West, Billings, from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m.
A graveside service will be held later at the Richwood Lutheran cemetery near Detroit Lakes, Minn.

Dick Swan
CODY, Wyo. - Dick Swan, 66, died Monday, April 12, 1999, at his home.
At his request, cremation has taken place and no services are planned. Ballard Funeral Home was in charge.

Twila (Cerny) Waterman
Mrs. Twila (Cerny) Waterman, 70, of 2608 Clark Ave. in Billings, died Monday morning, April 12, 1999, of ovarian cancer. The second daughter of Millie and Fern (Lake) Cerny, Twila was born Feb. 2, 1929, in Gordon, Neb. She married Robert Waterman on Aug. 11, 1946, in the First Methodist Church of Rushville, Neb.
Twila received her early education from Milan Rural School near her farm home and graduated from Rushvile High School. She briefly attended the University of Wyoming (1953-55) to study art. Brief periods of additional study were obtained at the University of Rhode Island and Arizona State University. Twila did not complete a degree program. Diabetic retinopathy caused considerable loss of vision.
Twila Waterman held active affiliation with a number of social, religious, and service-related organizations in Billings beginning in 1956, to include: Y-Wives (YWCA), EMC/MSU-B Faculty Women's Association, Billings Landmarks, and a 43-year worship and service membership in the Billings First United Methodist Church. She strongly supported her belief in community self-help and acknowledged her belief with budget support, a large portion of volunteer working time, and, part of herself.
Twila was an avid collector of early-day artifacts of the Southwest American Indians. An area of her home was dedicated to a well-researched displayed collection of artifacts depicting relevance to historical, social, religious and tribal mores and traditions common to these early-era Americans.
Twila loved her God. She served Him from the time of her childhood through a personal mission of caring and sharing where there was need. She had a large number of friends from children, teens, young married s, retirement villages and hospitals. Many of these friends rallied to her with prayers and love during her final illness. Twila loved children. Part of this interest centered on the neighborhood kids-of-any-age. Holidays she decorated her home for them; Halloween on her doorstep was hilarious. She never neglected the special things in their lives.
Twila loved her family. She was one of God's natural mothers; dedicating and sharing with her children and throughout the extended family; brothers, sister, nieces and nephews were fully included. Grandchildren and great-grandchildren had a second home with Grandma. Grandma's refrigerator was seldom full, but never empty.
Twila (Cerny) Waterman is survived by her spouse, Robert of Billings; daughter, Carol and spouse, Richard of Lopez Island, Wash., and son, Tom Waterman and spouse, Marsha of Portland, Maine. Other survivors include a sister, Fernola Stansbury and spouse, Ted of Puyallup, Wash.; her two brothers, Daryl Cerny and spouse, Doris of Greenville, Ohio, and Duane Cerny and spouse, Grace of the home place near Gordon. Other beloved survivors are her granddaughter, Rochelle Waterman of Phoenix, Ariz.; and grandsons, Allen Davenport of San Diego and Craig Davenport and spouse, Nyla with great-grandchildren, Tarrah, Paige, and Bradley of Billings.
Surviving nieces and nephews are Paulette Raye of Oceanside, Calif., Neil Cerny of Lake Jackson, Texas, David Cerny of Crawfordsville, Ind., Sharon Eberly of Kilgore, Neb., Kathy Glassgow of Rushville; Diane Moore of Rushville; and Mike Cerny of Gordon.
Twila's mother, father and grandson, Bradley Davenport of Billings preceded her in death.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 17, at the First United Methodist Church of Billings with the Rev. Howard P. Hunter officiating. A reception and lunch will be held in Brother Van Hall of the church following the service. Family will attend a private interment service at Mountview cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church and/or the Y.W.C.A. of Billings. Smith Downtown Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Harold L. Webber
SIDNEY - Harold L. Webber, 82, of Sidney, died Monday, April 12, 1999, at the Parkview Care Center in Billings.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, April 16, at the Ebenezer Congregational Church with interment in the Sidney cemetery. Fulkerson Funeral Home is in charge.

Daniel Eliga Welch Jr.
BUFFALO, Wyo. - Daniel Eliga Welch Jr., 62, of Buffalo and formerly of Sheridan, died Sunday, April 11, 1999, at the Veteran's Affairs Medical Center in Sheridan.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 14, in the Veteran's section of Willow Grove cemetery. Champion Funeral Home of Sheridan is in charge.

Josephine V. White Bear
HARDIN - Josephine V. White Bear, 68, of Hardin, died Tuesday, April 13, 1999, in the St. Vincent Hospital.
She was born Nov. 17, 1930, in Crow Agency, a daughter of Joe and Angie Delisi Thomas. She grew up in the Crow Agency area and attended schools in Crow Agency and Hardin. Following her education she worked at numerous cafes as a waitress and later worked as a nurses aide.
Josephine married Jack Frazer on July 22, 1972, in Cody, Wyo., and the family made their home in Hardin. Mr. Frazer died in 1983.
She was a member of the Catholic Church and the Pembina Clan. She loved to sew and embroidery and was an excellent quilt maker.
Josephine was preceded in death by her parents and two sons, Rusty and Danny.
Survivors include two sons, Robin White Bear of Hardin and Bruce White Bear of Alaska; one sister, Virginia (George) Pease of Hardin; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; as well as her best friend, Margaret Mitchell.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated 1 p.m. Saturday in the St. Joseph Catholic Church. Interment will follow in the Fairview cemetery. Bullis Mortuary of Hardin has been entrusted with the arrangements.

LeRoy F. Lemieux
CULBERTSON - LeRoy F. "Roy" Lemieux, 73, of Culbertson, died Tuesday, April 13, 1999, near Tuba City, Ariz.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, April 19, at St. Anthony's Catholic Church with interment of ashes in Hillside cemetery.

Goldie May Lytle
Goldie May Lytle, 86, died Sunday, April 11, 1999, at Evergreen Health Care Center in Billings.
Graveside services will be held Monday, April 19, at Sunset Lawn Memorial Park in Sacramento, Calif. Smith's Downtown Chapel is in charge.
