David A. Madsen
GILLETTE, Wyo. - David A. Madsen, 67, died Sunday, June 27, 1999, at the Campbell County Memorial Hospital of natural causes.
Masonic Rites will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 1, at the Becker-Hunt Funeral Home in South Sioux City, Neb. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 2, at the funeral home with interment in the Memorial Park cemetery in South Sioux City.

John Vincent Meyer
John passed away Sunday, June 27, 1999. He was 19 years old. On Oct. 18, 1979, John blessed the home of Joan and Vincent Meyer in Billings. A bright and happy child, he showed gifts in art and music, including piano, trumpet, guitar, and song-writing. John had a wonderful sense of humor and wrote clever short stories. He sang and acted in community productions of "The King and I, " "Jack and the Beanstalk, " and "Beauty and the Beast." He loved to perform magic tricks for others and became very adept. John's interest in jazz guitar led him to Interlochen Music Camp. John was a senior at the John Woolman School in California. He was preparing to attend the University of Portland this fall.
John is survived by his father, Vincent Meyer; his mother, Joan Meyer Nye; his stepfather, Jerrold Nye; grandmother, Julia Meyer; sisters, Jennifer Nye and Cynthia Jackson; his aunts and uncles, Sally Jacobsen, Lewis and Pat Heimbigner, Lura Cenzano, Fred and Ann Meyer; and several cousins, including Paula and Art Niemi.
His memorial service will be held at the First Congregational Church, where John sang in the children's choirs and rang in the youth bell choirs, at Third Avenue North and North 27th Street in downtown Billings. The time is 10:30 a.m. on Friday, July 2, 1999, with reception following in the church. Family interment services will follow at the Conrad Memorial cemetery in Kalispell.
Memorials may be made to the Camp Mimanagish fund, c/o First Congregational Church, 310 N. 27th St., Billings, Mont. 59101.

James F. Olson
HAVRE - James F. Olson, 66 years of age, a resident of Havre, died on June 28, 1999, at a Havre hospital of natural causes. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, July 1, 1999, at the First Lutheran Church in Havre. Burial with military honors will be at the Highland cemetery. Memorials in Mr. Olson's honor may be made to the Veterans Honor Guard in care of Havre Post No. 497, P.O. Box 497, Havre, Mont. 59501. Service and arrangements are under the direction of Holland & Bonine Funeral Home, Havre.
Jim was born on Feb. 21, 1933, at Fosston, Minn., the son of Oliver and Minda Bjore Olson. He also attended school in Fosston. James came to Montana in the fall of 1951 to work on farms along the Hi-line. That winter he went to work for the Great Northern Railroad. He was called into the U.S. Army in March of 1953, serving in Korea. He was honorably discharged in March of 1955. After his discharge, James returned to work for the Great Northern Railroad. On May 15, 1955, at Havre, he married the former Marian L. Nault. In 1956, he started as an apprentice in the plumbing trade. He worked for Jim Adams Plumbing and later for Nault Plumbing and Heating. He was very active in civic activities including the Jaycees and the Elks Lodge. He served as co-chairman for the 1962 Pioneer Multitennial, which was a celebration of the Great Northern's 100 years, Havre's 75 years and Hill County's 50 years. In 1964 Jim and his family moved to Alaska where Jim had a plumbing business. He moved back to Havre in 1972, working as a plumber and later as a brakeman with the Burlington Northern Railroad. The past two years the couple has traveled to Yuma, Ariz., for the winter months, where he enjoyed the warm climate and the company of his new friends. Jim was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, serving as past commander of Post No. 497, Elks Lodge, serving as past exalted ruler of the Sitka, Alaska Elks Lodge, and the Eagles. He enjoyed the outdoors, including camping, hunting, fishing and gardening.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, David.
He is survived by his wife, Marian Olson of Havre; their children, Alan and (Jean) Olson of Roundup, Richard and (Kathy) Olson of Kennewick, Wash., Kevin and (Pam) Olson of Havre, Mary and (Dale) Naber of Havre, Jodi and (Bob) Warneke of Great Falls. Surviving brothers and sisters: Orin Olson, O. Kent Olson and Theda Olson, all of Bagley, Minn., Mildred Myers of Richmond, Calif., and Phillip Olson of Columbia Falls; also 12 grandchildren.

Thomas William Owen
SHERIDAN, Wyo. - Thomas William Owen, 58, died Sunday, June 27, 1999, at his home.
Visitation will be 7-9 p.m. Thursday, July 1, at Kane Funeral Home. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, July 2, at the funeral home with interment in the Sheridan Municipal cemetery.

Vaughn Jay Schanz
POWDER RIVER - Vaughn Jay Schanz, age 14, passed away on Friday, June 25, 1999, on the family ranch on the Powder River, as a result of a lightning strike.
Vaughn was born on Aug. 15, 1984, at Miles City. He attended the Trail Creek School on the Powder River through the eighth grade. Vaughn was very active in community brandings and other activities. He was also very active in the church and the youth group. Vaughn especially enjoyed his family and was very helpful to his brother and sisters. One goal Vaughn had was to tour the United States, and he had high hopes to become a pilot. He had a great love for Jesus as his Savior and Lord. He was a good witness and set a wonderful example. Vaughn tried to live out his faith.
He is the son of Cassie and stepfather, Bill Erickson of Powder River, with a mailing address of Ismay, and the late Kary J. Schanz. He is also survived by a brother, Andrew Ray Schanz; two sisters: Rosalie Anne Schanz and Libby Lei Erickson; three grandmothers: Helen Schanz of Juneau, Alaska, Pat Campbell of Miles City, and Varna Erickson of Sturgis, S.D.; great-grandparents: Joe and Marie Hafla of Miles City, Lucille Varnado of Miles City, and Ted Cavill of Plains; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by three grandfathers: Johnny Schanz, Kenneth Campbell and Alden Erickson; and an infant sister, Emily.
A prayer service will be on Wednesday, June 30, 1999, at 6 p.m. in the Chapel of Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 1, 1999, at 2 p.m. at the Grace Bible Church with Pastors Larry Phalen and Bill Moore officiating. Interment will follow in the family lot in the Custer County cemetery. Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home of Miles City is in charge of arrangements.
Should friends desire, memorials may be made in care of Bill and Cassie Erickson, HC 80, Box 2, Ismay, MT 59336.

Wilton Leroy Simon
DENVER, Colo. - Wilton Leroy Simon, 80, formerly of Billings, Mont., died June 22, 1999.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 30, at Christ the King Lutheran Church with interment at Fort Logan National cemetery. Horan & McConaty Funeral Service is in charge.

Esther Josephine Taborsky
Esther Josephine Taborsky, 82, died of natural causes at Billings Deaconess Hospital on June 26, 1999.
She was born on Jan. 5, 1917, at Broadwater, Neb., to Marion and Mary Eva (Hall) Wagner. She spent her childhood in that area, and moved to Idaho after her first marriage in 1934. They moved to Montana in 1942, settling in the Harlowton area until 1954, then moved to Missoula and finally to Billings in 1991.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Marjorie Schmidt; three brothers, Milo, Robert and Elmer Wagner; three husbands, Albert Schulz, Edward Taborsky, Anton Taborsky; and several grandchildren.
She is survived by her two daughters, Joann Walker of Stevensville and Shirley Schuchard (husband, Duane) of Billings; four stepchildren, Dan Taborsky of Helena, Harold Taborsky (wife, Jeannie) of Bellflower, Calif., Janice Denny (husband, Eldon) of New Plymouth, Idaho, Kathy Hathaway (husband, Earnie) of Tucson, Ariz.; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Margaret Daniels of Wyoming; two brothers, Jim Wagner (wife, Rachel) of Washington, Samuel Wagner (wife, Alice) of Arizona; two sisters-in-law, Merlyn Taborsky of Kalispell and Anne Anderson of Lavina; along with numerous nieces and nephews and many friends.
During her lifetime, while she was still able, she kept herself busy with all kinds of arts and crafts, sewing and making quilts for four generations of her family. She also enjoyed her flowers, gardening and was affiliated with the Rock Clubs in Missoula and Billings and enjoyed working with the younger people in both of them.
She was an active member of the Mount Olive Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod.
She will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved her.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday, July 2, at Smith West Chapel, 304 34th St. W. Interment will be at 2:30 p.m. at the Lavina cemetery, Lavina.

Scott Randall Tannehill
CODY, Wyo. - Scott Randall Tannehill, age 17, passed away Friday, June 25, 1999, at St. Vincent Hospital in Billings, Mont. He was born Aug. 19, 1981, in Norfolk, Neb., the son of Randall R. and Dayle J. Dieter Tannehill.
Scott moved to Cody with his family in 1987. He attended Eastside Elementary School, Cody Middle School and had just completed his junior year at Cody High School. In the past, Scott played baseball and was on the Cody All Stars Team. He enjoyed camping and playing guitar with his friends. For the past three years, Scott was employed at Taco John's in Cody. He loved his little black dog, Maisie.
Scott's survivors include his parents, Randy and Dayle; a brother, Cory of Englewood, Colo.; a sister, Melissa of Cody; a nephew, Zachary Kessler; grandparents, Isabelle Tannehill and Eugene and Judy Dieter, all of Norfolk; his great-grandmother, Irma Dittberner; and several great-aunts, great-uncles, aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Richard Tannehill.
Visitations for Scott Tannehill will be Wednesday evening, June 30, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Ballard Funeral Home in Cody. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 1, at Ballard's with interment following in Riverside cemetery.
Those wishing may make donations in Scott's memory at Sunlight Federal Credit Union, Shoshone First Bank or the Bank of Norfolk.

Dallas Jerome 'D.J.' Ward
POPLAR - D.J. was 5 months old. He went to be with the Lord on Sunday morning, June 27, 1999. Dallas was born on Dec. 29, 1999, in Wolf Point, to Mikel Ward and Geraldine Lambert, both of Poplar.
He is survived by his parents; sisters, Eileen Lambert, Tristian Ward, Kassidy Ward; one brother, Mikel Ward Jr., all of Poplar; maternal grandparents, Kathleen Lambert and Stacy Crowe of Brockton; paternal grandmother, Agnes Ward of Poplar; aunties, Rayette Lambert of Brockton and Tanya (Tom) Steele of Poplar; uncles, Wilfred (Kari) Lambert of Brockton and Charles Olson of Malta; grandparents, Margaret L. Big Leggins, Edna (Steven) Grey Hawk, Rose (John) Morsette of Poplar, Myron Four Bear and Dennis Four Bear of Brockton; Irene (David) Evenson, Theresa Four Bear of Brockton; great-grandparents, Ervin and Pearl Four Bear of Brockton; great-great-grandmother, Katherine Blount of Brockton and numerous other relatives.
A wake will be held on Thursday, July 1, at the Red Eagle Memorial Presbyterian Church in Fort Kipp with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, July 2, at the Red Eagle Memorial Presbyterian Church with Rev. Enright Bighorn officiating. Interment will be in the Poplar City cemetery. Clayton Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

William E. Wieglenda
MISAWA AFB, Japan - William E. Wieglenda, 35, formerly of Wolf Point, Mont., died June 23, 1999, from injuries sustained in a swimming accident.
Visitation will be 5-9 p.m. with a rosary and prayer service at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 1, at the Price-Murphy Funeral Home in Dickinson, N.D. Visitation will also be held from 9 to 10 a.m. Friday, July 2, at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Gladstone, N.D. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the church.

Olive A. Betz
Olive A. Betz, 89, of Billings, passed away June 27, 1999, at the Deaconess Medical Center.
She was born May 29, 1910, in Overton, Neb., the daughter of Chester A. Anderson and Emma M. Francoeur Anderson. Olive graduated from high school in Chappell, Neb., at the age of 16. She married Theodore H. Betz, Nov. 15, 1929, in Rawlins, Wyo. They were married 67 years. They lived and worked together in various businesses all their married life. These included owning a meat department in a grocery store in Mountain Home, Ark., and then managing six different Sawyers Stores in Montana and Wyoming before retiring in 1970.
She was a member of the Shiloh Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband March of 1997, her parents and two brothers, Duane Andrews of Tulsa, Okla., and Norman Andrews of Harrison, Ark.
She is survived by her son, John Betz and wife, Ruth Betz of Billings; two grandchildren: Michael Betz and wife, Pamela Rice Betz and their children, Makayla and Rebecca of Sultan, Wash., Debra Schreiner and husband, Barry and their children, Korum, Carrick, and Joselynn of Monroe, Wash.
Memorial service will be held at the Columbarium Niche area in Terrace Gardens cemetery, 304 34th St. W. at 1 p.m. Friday, July 2. Cremation has taken place. Smith West Chapel in charge of arrangements.

John W. Hancock
BELLEVUE, Neb. - Ret. Lt. Col. USAF John W. Hancock, 78, formerly of Ballantine, Mont., passed away Friday, June 25, 1999.
He is survived by his wife, Doris; sons and daughters-in-law, Terry and Ginny of Des Moines, Iowa, John Jr. and Ibby of Omaha, Steve and Karen of Jacksonville, Fla., and David and Denise of Papillion; a brother, Bill and wife, Jessie of Billings, Mont.; eight grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Wanda Hancock of Mesa, Ariz.; and two nephews, Gary and Homer Hancock.
Visitation will be 1-8 p.m. Tuesday, June 29, with a Masonic service at 7 p.m. at the Bellevue Memorial Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 30, at the First Presbyterian Church of Bellevue with interment in the Bellevue cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Silent Wings Museum, P.O. Box 775, Terrell, TX 75160.

Anna Mae Laverdure
HELENA - Anna Mae Laverdure, age 72, of Helena, died Saturday, June 26, 1999, at St. Peters Hospital following a long-term illness. She was born in Sheridan, Wyo., Jan. 5, 1927, to Mack Henry Clay Clouse and Annie Elizabeth Snead. Anna Mae married James Laverdure, Nov. 21, 1945, in Evanston, Wyo. During their marriage Anna worked as a homemaker, raising her children. She took time to enjoy hobbies such as fishing, gardening, bingo and giving attention to her cats. James died Aug. 17, 1996.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Mack and Leonard Clouse; six sisters, Mary Cochran, Edna Sweet, Hazel Harvey, Alberta McCarty, Eva Barber and Lovella Nelson.
Anna is survived by her children, James F. Laverdure and his wife, Peggy of Cody, Wyo., David Laverdure of Helena, Tamie Eck and her husband, Monte of Powell, Wyo., Kay Laverdure of Helena, Louise Stubblefield and her husband, Bill of Portland, Ore., Mary Anna Wheeler and her husband, Dick of Basin, Wyo.; and a family friend, Marvin Hunt of Helena. Anna is also survived by her numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A memorial service in celebration of her life will be today at 10 a.m. at the Retz Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Steve Moody presiding. Memorials are suggested to the L&C County Humane Society, P.O. Box 4455, Helena, MT 59604 or to the Mikal Kelner Foundation for Animals, P.O. Box 389, Helena, MT 59624.

Clela Manila Manley
BIG TIMBER - Clela Manila Manley, 100, died Sunday, June 27, 1999, at the Pioneer Medical Center of natural causes.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 1, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church with interment at 3 p.m. in the Pony cemetery. Lowry Funeral Home is in charge.

Kenneth W. McCown
MILES CITY - Kenneth W. McCown, 80, died Sunday, June 27, 1999, at the Friendship Villa Care Center after a long illness.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, July 2, in the Chapel of Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home with interment in the family lot in the Custer County cemetery.

Richard M. McGregor
HOBSON - Richard Murray McGregor, 72, died Tuesday, June 22, 1999, at his home of natural causes.
Memorial Graveside Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 1, at the Philbrook cemetery. The Cloyd Funeral Home of Lewistown is in charge.
