Birdie J. Sanchez
Good Elk Horn Woman
WOLF POINT - Birdie J. Sanchez, 78, died Monday, Feb. 22, 1999, at the Faith Home.
A vigil service will be at 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 25, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Poplar. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 26, at the church with interment in the Poplar City cemetery. Clayton Memorial Chapel is in charge.

Frances Ann Stevenson
LAUREL - Frances Ann Stevenson, 59, of Laurel, passed away Feb. 23, 1999, in the Rochester, Minn., Saint Mary's Hospital. She had endured a long struggle with mental illness.
She was born Nov. 27, 1939, in Warren, Ark., to William and Carrie Caple. She graduated from Independence, Kan., High School.
Frances married James L. Stevenson on Nov. 24, 1967, at McPherson, Kan.
She was preceded in death by both of her parents; one sister, Betty Sparks; and her oldest son, Curtis.
Survivors include her husband, Jim; her son, Chad of the family home; four brothers: Harold of McPherson, Charles (Pauline "Sam") of Ocean Springs, Miss., Robert (Marsha) of Rockville, Md., Jack of Independence; three sisters: Katie Cooper and Carolyn Parrett of Chanute, Kan., and Sue (Frank) McBroom of Mounds, Okla.
Frances always took joy in her family and enjoyed reading novels.
Cremation has taken place and memorial services will be held 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 26, at Smith Funeral Chapel-Laurel. Memorials are suggested to: Yellowstone Alliance for the Mentally Ill, 2223 Green Valley Drive, Billings, MT 59102, or Big Sky Hospice.

Allan Kent Toland
BELFRY - Allan Kent Toland was born March 23, 1956, in Billings. He attended Belfry Elementary and Belfry High schools. In 1979, he married Veronique Hergenrider in Bridger. They made their home in the Belfry and Billings area.
Allan worked locally with Webb Construction and bartended for both the Silvertip and Belfry Bar at various times. He roughnecked for Molen and Exeter Drilling. He also enjoyed a few seasons of beet truck driving.
In 1985, Al received his GED. He attended EMC (MSU-Billings) in 1987-88. He had completed his freshman year and was majoring in human services when he learned he needed dialysis.
Allan enjoyed camping, fishing, boating and motorcycling in his early years. He was also an excellent cook and enjoyed cooking. He loved to learn as much as he could about everything. He enjoyed guns and reloading his own ammunition. He loved to take things apart to see how they worked and found even more enjoyment having it fit back together with no extra parts. Allan enjoyed a good joke and a good laugh with friends and family; he was a loyal friend and a good listener.
Al was especially proud of his three children and would light up when he was around them. He enjoyed playing Nintendo with them and collected coins and baseball cards with them. He had a special bond with each of them.
Allan joined his mother, Olive Lucille Kipp, on Feb. 21, after a lifelong courageous battle with diabetes and its complications. His mother preceded him in death on Aug. 30, 1969.
He is survived by his three children: Justin Allan Toland, age 18 of Billings; Misty Dawn Toland, age 12 of Belfry; Adam Kent Toland, age 7 of Belfry; his father, Russell Toland of Belfry; one sister, Anita (Richard) Jerry of Seattle; five brothers, Robert (Bob) Toland (Renee) of Powell, Wyo., Jeff Toland (Tina) of Billings, Ken Toland (Deb) of Bozeman, Mike Toland (Jodi) of Roberts and Doug Toland (Dee) of Spokane, Wash.
We will truly miss your quick wit and fantastic sense of humor. Your tremendous display of courage and strength will always be remembered with complete admiration and respect. Although we find comfort in knowing that your suffering has ended, our hearts are heavy because we love you and miss you, and will never forget you.
Cremation has taken place. Memorial service will be held on Friday, Feb. 26, at 2 p.m. at the LDS Church in Belfry. Everyone is invited to a reception following the service.

Maureen J. Armstrong
LIVINGSTON - Maureen J. Armstrong, 77, died Sunday, Feb. 21, 1999, at the Livingston Health & Rehab Center.
Cremation has taken place and no services are planned. Franzen-Davis Funeral Home and Cremation Service was in charge.

Margaret H. Adams
SHERIDAN, Wyo. - Margaret H. Adams, 83, died Friday, March 12, 1999, at Sheridan Manor.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 18, at Ferries Funeral Home with interment of cremated remains at a later date in Jackson, Ga.

Donald Beary
HARDIN - Donald Beary, 80, of Hardin, passed away Monday, March 15, 1999, in the Big Horn County Memorial Nursing Home.
He was born April 17, 1918, in Putnam County, Mo., a son of William and Katie Statton Beary. He spent his childhood in Missouri and Iowa. The family moved in 1937 to Hardin where he graduated from Hardin High School.
Donald moved to San Diego, Calif., in 1941 and worked for the Ryan Aircraft Company as a machinist.
He married Bonnie Warren in April 12, 1941, in Yuma, Ariz., and the couple made their home in San Diego, until returning to Hardin in 1947. Donald was a shareholder and machinist for the Floyd Warren Inc. near Hardin.
Donald loved to hunt and fish and did gunsmithing as a hobby for many years. He was Chief Instructor for the Big Horn County Hunter Safety Program for 35 years. He also served on the School Board for District 17-H and 1 for 19 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers; four sisters; and one son, Dan, who was killed in Vietnam.
Survivors include his wife, Bonnie of Hardin; two daughters, Donalee (Don) LaBar of Great Falls and Jean (Tim) Stolle of Washington; one son, Robert (Donna) Beary of Hardin; two sisters, Dorothy (Harvey) Morgan and Alice Hamlin of Iowa; one brother, Earl (Joan) Beary of California; five grandsons, Derek, Ryan and Jevon LaBar, Grant and Mark Stolle; and three step-grandchildren, Brigette, Colleen, Michael Gardinier.
Cremation has taken place. Memorial Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday in the Hardin First Congregational Church. Private interment of the Ashes will follow at a later date. Bullis Mortuary of Hardin has been entrusted with the arrangements.
Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to the First Congregational Church, Big Horn County Hospital Activity Fund or to the Charity of one's Choice.

Lou Anna (Button) Braughton
BIG TIMBER - Lou Anna (Button) Braughton passed away March 13, 1999, in Big Timber. Lou Anna was born in Edgemont, S.D., to Lou and Anna (Noyes) Button. They moved to Billings in 1920 to be with family and work at Noyes Groceries, a family-owned business.
Lou Ann attended school in Billings and pursued a music degree at Eastman School of Music in Rochester, N.Y. She returned to Billings where she taught piano and resided until 1967 when she married Virgil J. Braughton and moved to Big Timber. Lou Anna continued to teach piano and began ranching with her husband.
After Virgil's death in 1992, Lou Anna was able to live her remaining years in her home on the Boulder River with her great-nephew and great-niece.
Lou Anna is preceded in death by her mother, father, husband, and cousins, Ben and Tyler Reynolds, Carolyn Newman and Mary Louise Cooper. She is survived by her cousin, Louise Garrett, and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and many of her piano students.
Funeral services will be held at the Lowry Funeral Home in Big Timber on Wednesday, March 17, at 10:30 a.m. with a reception to follow at the Congregational Church. Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Billings.

Ardyce Kay Jensen Buechler
JOLIET - Ardyce Jensen Buechler, 50, of Joliet, died March 15, 1999, at her home after fighting with breast cancer. Funeral Services will be held at the Olcott Funeral Home, Red Lodge, with burial at the Joliet cemetery.
Ardyce was born in Great Falls on Oct. 5, 1948, but spent all of her childhood in the foothills of the Sweetgrass Hills along the Canadian border on the family ranch. She graduated from Chester High School, attended and graduated with a Bachelors of Arts in history, a Bachelors of Science in sociology with anthropology (archaeology), and began a master's program in Historic Archaeology at Montana State University, Bozeman. She worked as a field archaeologist with various consulting firms and was the Carbon County Preservation Officer. She was a member of the Joliet and Red Lodge Ambulance Services.
Ardyce married her true love, Charlie, on March 9, 1999.
She was a wonderful wife, mother, and friend. She was a kind person who left this world too soon and will always be missed by her loved ones and by anyone who knew her.
Ardyce is survived by her loved ones: Charles Buechler, her husband; two sons, Kip Jens and Hans Knute Heintz; her parents, Kathryn and Harold Jensen; her sister, Connie (Jensen) Mathis and her husband, Ted; her nephew, James Gavin Mathis; her very dear friends: Lorrie, Willie and Matthew Steerey; Linda, Bryan, and Dana Weatherford; Becky, Kendall, Joe and Kendra Kallevig; her parents-in-law, Agnes and Roy Buechler; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her dear cousin, Wesley Jeppesen; by her beloved uncles, Harold Jeppesen and Ole and Leo Jensen; and her grandparents.
Ardyce ("Dyce, " "Arda"), we will always remember you, love you, and you will always be in our hearts.
Services: Olcott Funeral Home, Red Lodge, Visitation Wednesday 1 p.m. to 8 p.m.; vigil services at 7 p.m. The funeral will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Olcott Funeral Home with interment at the Joliet cemetery.
Memorials can be made to the Billings Hospice, the Carbon County Historical Society, or to the Joliet Ambulance Service.

Gertrude R. Cyr
WHITE SULPHUR SPRINGS - Gertrude R. Cyr, 80, died Friday, March 12, 1999.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 16, at the Mountainview Medical Center Chapel.

Clara Elliott
Clara Elliott passed away Saturday, March 13, 1999, at St. John's Lutheran Home where she had been a resident the past two years.
On April 11, 1902, Clara Prudence Egeland Elliott was born on the family homestead ranch at Dry Creek. She was the third of six children born to Peder and Kari (Anderson) Egeland who had immigrated from Norway to this area near Big Timber. After growing up, Clara went to Normal School in Dillon and became a teacher. She then taught at Deer Creek country school. Clara married Tilmar Esp in Big Timber in 1922 and a daughter, Jeanne, was born. In 1929, Clara married Everet Elliott. From 1939 to 1953 she operated Elliott's Grocery in Billings.
Clara pursued her interests zealously. From gardening to dancing to cooking, perfection was always her goal. She was a lifetime member at Arthur Murray Dance Studio and continued dancing at every opportunity well into her '80s. Her Norwegian heritage was also a source of great pride, and at the age of 72, Clara became an Eastern Montana College co-ed to study Norwegian. She was a member of Sons of Norway and Royal Neighbors of America.
Clara adored her three granddaughters and was available to them always. To them she was 'Mio.'
Clara was a dedicated conservative with a "dawn 'til dusk" work ethic. She had little patience for idleness and ran a very tight ship in all her business affairs. She was a devout member of the American Lutheran Church. Clara was ever thankful for the many gifts she saw as given by God.
Clara is survived by her daughter, Jeanne Clare Lombardy of Billings; granddaughters, Lisa Gay Lombardy and Barbara Jean Lombardy of Billings, Sonja Lee Lombardy Drinkwalter (Bruce) of Great Falls; five great-grandchildren, Ben, Adam, Caleb, Daniel, and Hannah Drinkwalter of Great Falls; and one sister, Olga Reid of Livingston
Preceding her in death are her parents; sisters, Alma Cort, Henrietta Weller; brothers, Alfred and Leon Egeland; and a foster sister, Sophie LaQua.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, March 20, 1999, at the Big Timber Lutheran Church in Big Timber. Interment will follow in Mountain View cemetery. Memorials may be sent to St. John's Lutheran Home, 3940 Rimrock Road., Billings, MT 59102 or the charity of one's choice. Michelotti, Sawyers & Nordquist has charge of arrangements.

Robert J. Goldsby
CODY, Wyo. - Robert J. Goldsby, 79, died Monday, March 15, 1999, at West Park Long Term Care Center.
Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, March 16, at the Ballard Funeral Home. Graveside services will be at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, March 17, at Riverside cemetery.

Mary Lloyd
SHERIDAN, Wyo. - Mary Lloyd, 88, died Sunday, March 14, 1999, at Westview Healthcare Center.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 18, at Kane Funeral Home with interment in the Elks cemetery.

Maurice 'Mo' Prairie Chief
HARDIN - Maurice "Mo" Prairie Chief, 17, of Hardin, formerly of Ashland, died in a car-train accident near Tallapoosa, Mo., Saturday evening, March 13, 1999.
"Mo" was born April 18, 1981, in Crow Agency, a son of Martin Prairie Chief and Estelle Runs Above. He grew up and attended schools at the St. Labre Catholic Mission in Ashland and the Morning Star School in Lame Deer. While in school, he participated in football.
He enjoyed going to pow-wows, riding and training horses, fishing and hunting. He was a member of the Catholic Church.
Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Estelle and Emery Bear Comes Out of Hardin; two sisters, Katheryn Stern and Kendra Runs Above of Hardin; five brothers, Gerhard Stern of Great Falls, Les Cheyenne Razor of Missouri, George Limberhand of Hardin, Marley Kills Night of Red Lodge and Clay Kills Night of Pryor. He is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews and nieces.
Rosary and wake services will be held 7 p.m. Thursday evening in the St. Labre Mission Social Room. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Friday in the Mission Chapel. Interment will follow in the Mission cemetery. Bullis Mortuary of Hardin has been entrusted with the arrangements.
