Gladys Pearl Vanderhoof
FAIRVIEW - Gladys Pearl Vanderhoof, 84, of Fairview, died Wednesday, Feb. 24, 1999, at the Sidney Health Center Extended Care Facility.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, March 1, at Fulkerson Funeral Chapel in Sidney. Cremation will follow services and interment of the cremated remains will be at a later date in the Fairview cemetery.

Vera Belle Prill
Vera Belle Prill, age 99, of Billings, died Wednesday, Jan. 13, 1999, at Western Manor Health Care Center where she had been a resident for over 10 years.
Vera was born Oct. 2, 1899, at Sentinel Butte, N.D., the daughter of Andrew and Mae (Bennett) Paxton. She graduated from high school in Sentinel Butte.
Vera married Fred Lavern Prill Sr. on March 21, 1923, in Casper, Wyo. They moved to Billings soon after their marriage. She worked for Billings Laundry for many years.
Vera had been a member of Edna Hedges Chapter, O.E.S. and the Daughters of the Nile.
Survivors are two sons, Vern (Martha) Prill of Billings and Donald Prill of Everett, Wash., six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 16, at Smith's Downtown Chapel. Interment will be in Mountview cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Billings Masonic Center Assn., P.O. Box 21036, Billings, Mont. or First Congregational United Church of Christ, 310 N. 27th, Billings, 59101.

Kathryn A. Ruff
OAKLAND, Calif. - Kathryn A. Ruff died on Jan. 13, 1999, in Oakland.
Kathy was born Oct. 24, 1943, in Lovell, Wyo., to George and Sara Foote Ruff. The family resided in Kane, Wyo., at the time.
When she was young they moved to Joliet, Mont., where Kathy attended school and graduated from Joliet High School in 1961.
Following her graduation, she worked as Harrison Fagg's secretary with the Youth Guidance Council.
In 1965, she moved to Oakland where she was employed by Kaiser Company for 33 years, retiring in 1998 due to ill health.
She is survived by her mother, Sara Ruff of Billings; one brother, Bill and Jeanne of Billings; one sister, Peggy and Keith Springer of Spokane, Wash.; two nephews, Rolf and Kyle Springer of Washington; a niece, Billie Jean Ruff and Bryon Stiller of Billings; another nephew, Mike and Julie Ruff, and three grandnieces, Danielle, Theresa and Shawna Jean Ruff all of Gillette, Wyo.; and her best friend, Clancy.
She was preceded in death by her father, George, and brother, George L. Ruff.
Memorials may be made to the Rocky Mountain Cancer Center, Billings.
Funeral services are pending.

Ruth G. Travis
Ruth G. Travis, 83, of Billings, formerly of Barstow, Calif., died Thursday, Jan. 14, 1999, at Eagle Cliff Manor. She was born July 29, 1915, in Thermopolis, Wyo., where she graduated from high school. She married Clyde Clucas in Shell, Wyo. He passed away in 1957. Ruth married Charles Travis, Dec. 31, 1961, in Las Vegas, Nev. He also preceded her in death.
Ruth was very well known for her many hours of volunteer work for the Staff Noncommissioned Officers Service Club of which she was a life member in Barstow. She moved to Billings in 1982 to live near her daughter. Ruth was very active in the RSVP in Billings where she especially loved her volunteer work and crafts.
Survivors include a daughter, Lora "Sue" Timmons of Billings; three sons, Jack (Mary) Clucas of Shell, Bill Clucas of North Pole, Alaska, and Bob (Janet) Clucas of Clam Gulch, Alaska; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Eva Angiline of Hemet, Calif. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, granddaughter, parents, and sister.
Memorial will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Cremation or Funeral Gallery, 114 Florine. Memorials may be made to Billings Animal Shelter, P.O. Box 1178, Billings, MT 59103.

Donald B. Adams
Donald B. Adams, 71, of Billings, passed away Jan. 13, 1999, at St. Vincent Hospital of a massive heart attack.
Don was born May 10, 1927, in Junction City, Ore., to Jess Orlando Adams and Gladys Lenora Adams (Nyjust). When he was 5 years old, he went to live with Grandma and Grandpa Hogue.
He joined the Navy in January of 1942 and was stationed at Pearl Harbor.
He married Maxine Rasmussen in 1946 and Ruth Clark in 1948.
Don was employed by Consolidated Freightways from 1948-1964 and Jack Hoffman Trucking from 1964-1970.
He married Carol A. Vejtasa in 1966.
In 1970, Don purchased his first truck, driving for Little Louie Trucking, LeClair Livestock, and Rudy Bertolino. He started Don Adams Livestock in 1976 and retired in 1983. After retiring, he enjoyed his friends and family and traveling with the Winni/Tasca RV Club.
Don is survived by his wife, Carol, and children, Cheryl Ann Smith, (Gary), Don Adams Jr., (Linda), Tom Adams, Larry Adams, (Barbara), Cheryl Delgado, (Gene), Bonnie Maze, (John), John Vejtasa, (Linda), and James M. "Marty" Vejtasa, (Kelly). He is also survived by 15 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and three sisters, Janice Sisco, Ardeth June Breithaupt, and Dixie Burdette.
Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Michelotti, Sawyers & Nordquist Mortuary.

Nona Ruth Clifton Arneson
HYSHAM - On March 4, 1999, Jesus saw our loving wife, mother and grandmother's work was done, and rewarded her wings to go with her halo. She selflessly devoted her life to her faith in the Lord, family and helping others.
Nona was born Oct. 24, 1932, in Scarbo, W.Va., the daughter of Daniel "Guy" and Lola Wriston Clifton, the eldest of nine children. She moved to Ingomar when she was nine years old. Nona attended schools in Ingomar until Kenneth "swept her off her feet."
On June 25, 1949, Nona married Kenneth Arneson in the American Lutheran Church in Billings. This June would have marked their 50th Anniversary. Kenneth and Nona farmed for 40 years in Pease Bottom before retiring to Hysham in 1990.
Nona enjoyed birds, flowers, gardening, playing cards, crossword puzzles, fishing and watching videos. She especially enjoyed trips to West Virginia to visit with relatives. She taught Sunday School for over 20 years and held offices of secretary and Sunday School Superintendent. She also belonged to the Friendly Garden Club, the canasta club and was the secretary/treasurer of the Rancher's cemetery.
She is survived by her husband, Kenneth; her children, Carol and Gene Gamble, Gary and Sandy Arneson, Gordon and Elaine Arneson, Naomi and Kenneth Rolandson, all of Hysham, Lisa and Darin Linger of Laurel and Alana and Kory Kober of Columbus; 14 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She is also survived by four brothers, three sisters and numerous nieces and nephews. Nona was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Virginia.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 9, at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hysham with interment to follow in the Rancher's cemetery. Visitation will be held Monday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Beals Mortuary Chapel in Forsyth. Family visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the St. Joseph Catholic Church with public visitation following until the service. Memorials may be made to the Stain Glass Fund at the Trinity Lutheran Church of Hysham or the Rancher's cemetery in care of Keith Kimball. Beals Mortuary of Forsyth is in charge of the arrangements.

Frederick Ernest Bergman Jr.
YAKIMA, Wash. - Frederick (Fred) Ernest Bergman Jr. died at his home on Friday, March 5. He was born Sept. 16, 1922, in Absher, Mont., to parents Frederick Sr. and Margret (Daly) Bergman. Fred graduated from high school in Lewistown, Mont., and then worked for Inland Airlines in both Lewistown and Billings, Mont.
During World War II and the Korean conflict, Fred served in the U.S. Air Force as an aircraft navigator. He married Inez Larson in 1943 in Denver. After a short period of working for Western Airlines as station manager in Sheridan, Wyo., he spent the rest of his working career as an air traffic controller employed by the Federal Aviation Agency (FAA). During his career with the FAA he worked in Cleveland, Ohio, Livingston, Seattle, and Sheridan.
After retiring in 1980, Fred and wife, Inez, lived in Sheridan and then moved to Yakima to be closer to their children. He spent the rest of his life there except for a one-year period spent in Oroville, Calif.
Fred is survived by his wife, Inez of Yakima; son, Don and his wife, Debi of Bremerton; daughter, Judy and her husband, Jerry Roloson of Lynden; daughter, Jo Anne Clark of Los Angeles; son, Larry and his wife, Donna of Ellensburg; nine grandchildren; brother, Dean of Drummond, Mont.; sister, Jeanette Van Voorhis of Oroville; sister, Bess Paul of Billings; and numerous cousins, nephews, nieces and friends. His mother and father preceded him in death.
The funeral was held at Christ Lutheran Church on Tuesday, March 9. Burial was at Calvary cemetery in Yakima. Keith and Keith Funeral Home handled funeral arrangements.

Thomas Grover Leach
TEMPE, Ariz. - LCDR Thomas Grover Leach, MSC, USN, Retired, passed away March 5, 1999. Born March 6, 1919, in Fort Worth, Texas, to the late Thomas Grover and Lillian Beatrice Culwell Leach. He pulled himself up by the bootstraps from the wrong side of the tracks and was the sole provider for his family from the age of 11.
T.G. served in the Medical Service Corps of the United States Navy for 23 years. He was stationed in the Pacific Theatre at Guadalcanal; Papua New Guinea; Australia; Guam; Pearl Harbor; and New Britain Island.
He graduated from George Washington University in 1955 with a BA in business administration. After receiving an Honorable Discharge on Dec. 1, 1960, he spent a year traveling the United States and Mexico with his family before accepting the position of hospital administrator at Fort Worth Osteopathic Hospital, as it was called then. He loved his family, RV camping, traveling, work and building better mousetraps. T.G. was quite intelligent and had a clever sense of humor.
He leaves behind a wife of 58 years, Meta Marie Leach of Tempe; two daughters, Linda Leach of Billings, and Amy M. Schultz and her husband, Mark W. Schultz of Tempe; two grandchildren, Wesley Thomas Bagley and Frieda Rae Jones, both of Billings; one great-granddaughter, Adriyanna Marie Sauvago, also of Billings; a sister-in-law, Ruby Marie Pope Leach of Murphy, N.C.; two grown nephews, Wayne Leach of Miami, Fla., and Norman Leach of Houston, Texas, and their families. He was preceded in death by his younger brother, Alonzo "Dub" Whitfield Leach, Aug. 29, 1998.
"His character was above reproach." We are very proud of you Daddy, and we will miss you forever. May we follow in your outstanding footsteps.
Cremation will take place at Arizona Aftercare. The family has requested no memorial service. In lieu of flowers, please remember him with donations in his name to The Retired Officers Association Scholarship Fund, 201 N. Washington St., Alexandria, Va. 22314-2539.

Eugenie Wise Baldwin Lindgard
SEATTLE - Eugenie Wise Baldwin Lindgard passed away March 7, 1999, in a Seattle nursing home. She was the eldest of six children born to Albert and Geneva Doyen Wise. She was born Oct. 8, 1914, at Rapelje, Mont., where she lived until 1932 when the family moved to Billings. There she attended Normal School, after which she taught school in Montana for six years.
She married Charles Henri Baldwin in October 1936. She moved to Seattle in 1941 where she worked for Boeing Aircraft. She married Elmer Lindgard in July 1944, who passed away in December l992.
Survivors include two sons, Ted Baldwin and wife, Sharon, Emory Lindgard and wife, Darlene; two sisters, Delphine Olson and husband, Pat, Marie Chambers and husband, Ed; a brother, Louis Wise and wife, Donna; three granddaughters, Roxanne Lauver of Alaska, Cheri Doty of Laurel and Jennifer Enger of Seattle; and three great-grandsons.
Eugenie loved to travel and made trips to every continent. We will all cherish loving memories of Eugenie.

Rose Ryder Nissen
Rose Ryder Nissen passed away peacefully Sunday, March 7, 1999, at Western Manor Care Center after a six-year struggle with Alzheimer's Disease.
Rose was born Sept. 25, 1919, in Billings to Henry and Katherine Ryder and grew up in Laurel. She married James Nutting, May 1, 1939, in Columbus. Then she married Harold Nissen, June 2, 1944, in Red Lodge. They moved to Livingston in 1945. In 1965 she moved to Billings where she was a member of Peace Lutheran Church. She later worked for Deluxe Check Printers.
She is survived by her two sons, Gary (Jan) Nutting and Ron (Judy) Nissen of Billings; two sisters, Lydia Fox of Billings and Martha Skauge, also of Western Manor; five grandchildren, Lisa Brodston of Livingston, Lauri Nutting of Salem, Ore., and Kenny Nutting of Billings, Mike and Brandi Stone of Billings; three great-grandchildren, Megan Brodston of Livingston and Sammy Nutting and Duncan Owens of Billings.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Henry and Alex; and two sisters, Betty Burch and Mary Hines.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, March 11, at the Smith West Chapel, 304 34th St. W. Interment will be at Terrace Gardens cemetery.
The family would like to thank the staff at Western Manor for their special care. Memorials can be made to the Alzheimer Wing at Western Manor or the charity of choice.

Gordon Wayne Red Wolf
ANACONDA - Gordon Wayne Red Wolf, 50, of Anaconda, formerly of Wyola, died March 7, 1999.
He was born Dec. 17, 1948, in Crow Agency, a son of Juanita LaForge and Edward Red Wolf Sr. He grew up and attended schools in Wyola.
Gordon was a great-grandson of Mitch Bouyer, a military advisor and liaison to General Custer during the Battle of the Little Big Horn.
He was a member of the Catholic Church and the Greasy Mouth Clan.
Gordon was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and one sister.
Survivors include two brothers, Norman Red Wolf and Thomas Red Wolf Sr. of Wyola; seven sisters, Angela Stewart and Edith Red Wolf of Wyola, Doris Old Coyote of Wyoming, Betty Blackrock of California, Rosella Covington of Washington, Alice Salazar and Gloria Pretty Weasel of Texas; three adopted sisters, Mary Beth Castro of Wyola, Linda Lee LaForge and Josie Brien of Lodge Grass; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Rosary will be recited 4 p.m. Wednesday in the Bullis Funeral Chapel. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Thursday in the Lodge Grass Our Lady of Loretto Catholic Church. Interment will follow in the Red Wolf Family cemetery near Wyola. Bullis Mortuary of Hardin has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Edith Belle Bowman
Edith Belle 92, of Billings and formerly of Big Timber, died Nov. 8, 1998.
Cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 1, at Lowry Funeral Home with interment in Mountain View cemetery, both in Big Timber.
