Ella Robinson Farnsworth
ROUNDUP - Ella Robinson Farnsworth died peacefully in the arms of her loving granddaughter and special care giver, Lisa Goldsmith on April 3, 1999, in the Roundup Memorial Hospital.
Ella was born May 10, 1905, in Putnam Co. Missouri, the daughter of Willard and Nellie Rowan Farnsworth. Although Ella's formal education was limited, she learned history, U.S. Government and politics from her much loved and respected grandfather.
On March 27, 1924, Ella married William Robinson and together they had eight children.
Ella and Bill moved their family to Roundup in 1944. Aside from being a good homemaker, wife and mother, she was very active in the community. She belonged to the United Methodist Church where she took an active role in the Sunday school, The U.M.W. and she was named delegate to the Methodist Conference. At age 93, she attended Roundup's First United Methodist Church where she received a special award for many years of service as a member.
In 1951, Ella joined the Order of Eastern Star, Garland Ch. #9 in Melstone. Her membership was moved to Jewel Chapter #48 in Roundup and then dual membership in Valley Chapter in Glasgow. She served as an officer almost continuously for 48 years. In 1956, she was elected Worthy Matron and again in 1969. Ella had several Grand Chapter appointments and most notably was Grand Martha, Grand Chapter of Montana OES.
Mom was the happiest when she was busy and useful. That included working at the Blue Ribbon Bakery (owned by her son, Bill). She worked for several years at the Roundup Memorial Hospital. Ella also enjoyed doing volunteer work which included helping with the reading program at Central School, the Senior Citizens and museum guide.
The Roundup Re-Treads was a part of her social life and enjoyed many meals with them.
Ella was an avid pinochle player. All of our holiday get-togethers always ended up with a rousing game of cards and listening to her wonderful stories about the "good old days."
Bill preceded Ella in death on Sept. 6, 1982, after 58 years together. On Oct. 8, 1986, Ella married Vern Farnsworth and the couple made their home in Glasgow until she was moved back to Roundup to be with her daughter Judy. Vern preceded her in death after 11 years of happy companionship.
Ella is survived and will be greatly missed by her children: Wanda Goeken, Atlantic, Iowa; Twyla Tausch, Porterville, Calif.; Mary Ann Bolton, Cub Run, Ky.; Joy Frank, Corona, Calif.; Linda King, Coos Bay, Ore.; Judy Van Dyke, Roundup; William Robinson, Lompoc, Calif.; and Samuel Robinson, Mesquite, Texas. She also has 25 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
It is said that "the father is the head of the family and the mother is the heart of the home." Mom will always be remembered for her warm and loving home, her excellent cooking and hands willing to help anyone in need. Ella was indeed the heart of her home and in the last months of life Ella was at the heart of my home. In her last months, she still had much love to give and we at her bedside learned valuable lessons from her. God bless you Mom.
Cremation has taken place. A Memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 7, 1999, at the First United Methodist Church in Roundup. A lunch will be served by her friends of the church and Sisters of the Order of Eastern Star following the ceremony. Come!
