Eric Raymond Balo
GREYBULL, Wyo. - Eric Raymond Balo, 78, of Greybull, died Monday, Jan. 11, 1999, at Deaconess Hospital in Billings.
Visitation will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 14, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the church with cremation to follow. Interment of the cremated remains will be at a later date. Atwood Family Funeral Directors Inc. is in charge.

Lewis 'Buddy' Stanton Brannin
BIG TIMBER - Lewis "Buddy" Stanton Brannin, 92, of Big Timber, passed away of natural causes on Jan. 11, 1999. He was born on Oct. 23, 1906, at the family homestead in the Crazy Mountains outside Melville and spent his entire life in the Big Timber-Harlowton area.
After graduation from Sweet Grass County High School in 1927, he worked for a short time on the Huidekoper Ranch, which later became known as the American Fork Ranch, near Two Dot. He worked for the MacFarland Ranch for seven years where he met and married Carrie Bird, the cook for the MacFarland Ranch. He and Carrie moved to Melville to work for Bill Donald and remained there for 11 years. In 1945 Lewis was asked to manage the American Fork Ranch and he remained there until his retirement 30 years later.
Mr. Brannin was a member of the Melville Lutheran Church and the Montana Cattleman's Association.
Lewis is survived by his wife of 68 years, Carrie Brannin; two daughters, LaVelle Brannin and Ivanelle White; one son, Stanton Brannin; one sister, Thelma Pelletier; seven grandchildren, Bill Sward, Karisa Symonds, Gwen Knight, Kim Metcalf, Cynde Whiteman, Koreen Chapman, and Eric Knight; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Services for Lewis will be at the Melville Lutheran Church on Friday, Jan. 15, 1999, at 2 p.m. The Brannin family has requested memorials be sent to the Melville Lutheran Church or the Hospitality House of Big Timber or one of your own choosing.

Isabelle May Bray
LAUREL - Isabelle May Bray went home to be with the Lord, Jan. 11, 1999. She died of natural causes in the Laurel Evergreen Nursing Home.
She was born Feb. 14, 1912, to Charles and Susan Lyons in Lincoln, Neb. They moved to Laurel when she was a young child and to California for a short time, then back to Laurel. She later married Clyde A. Bray on Sept. 19, 1936.
She enjoyed her flower gardening and crocheting for family and friends. Her love in life was raising her sons and being an excellent homemaker. She was also an active member of the Rebekah Lodge and a member of the Laurel United Methodist Church.
Isabelle was preceded in death by her parents, siblings and her husband. Survivors include three sons, Richard Bray of Laurel, Russell and his wife, Janet of Laurel, and Randel and his wife, Judy of Laurel; five grandchildren and one great-grandson.
She will be greatly missed by all who knew her, but after a long battle, she can now rest in peace.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 15, 1999, at Smith Funeral Chapel in Laurel with interment in the Laurel cemetery.

Ruth Isabel Uline Brown -- 'The Violet Lady'
GILLETTE, Wyo. - Ruth Isabel Uline Brown, of Gillette, formerly of Billings, died Sunday, Jan. 10, 1999, of natural causes.
Her love of growing things included African violets, flowers and vegetables in the yard, and grandchildren. She is best known as "The Violet Lady" from 102 E. Redwood St. because she donated her African violets to Pioneer Manor, to the Campbell County Senior Center for the birthday lunch drawings, and to anyone who needed a pick-me-up.
She made sure when you received one of her "babies" that you had written instructions on how to care for these special plants. She especially reminded you to never throw a leaf away if it broke off, but to plant it in a pot of specially prepared soil and grow a new violet.
She was born Feb. 17, 1917, in Troy, N.Y., to John H. and Elsie (Stickelman) Uline. She attended schools in West Sand Lake, N.Y., and studied to be a teacher at Normal School in Oneonta, N.Y.
On Sept. 20, 1941, Ruth married Alec W. Brown.
During World War II she worked as an inspector at a steel mill in New York.
After the war she and Alec Brown moved to Billings, where she raised the four children who survive her, Sally-Kate Mock Collins (Mrs. Robert) and Toni Brown of Rozet, Michael Brown of Billings and Kandi Gropp of Denver.
Also while in Billings she worked in the lunch room at Will James Junior High, and at the poolside snack bar and in the coat room at the Yellowstone Country Club.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Alec.
She is also survived by grandchildren: Kitt and Lizz Higdon of Gillette; Miles "Mickey" Mock-Jones of Scottsdale, Ariz.; Dr. Curtis Mock of Onowa, Iowa; Hank Mock of Billings; Christopher Gropp of Washington, D.C.; Alexandra and Jennell Gropp of Denver; Stewart and Gordon Brown of Billings; Paige (Higdon) Chytka of Spearfish; and Marni Higdon of Billings; and seven great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in Ruth's name to the Al Bedoo Children's Transportation Fund, P.O. Box 20673, Billings, Mont. 59104 for children who need to use the Shrine Children's Hospitals.
At Ruth's request, no services are planned. There will be a reception for friends and family on Sunday, Jan. 17, 1 to 3 p.m., at the Scottish Rite Building, 514 14th St. W.

Joe Marman Burkhardt
Our beloved son Joe Marman Burkhardt, 34, passed away on Jan. 10, 1999. He will be in our hearts forever.
He is survived by his mother Jackie; his stepfather Roger Burkhardt; his father and stepmother Kent and Elaine Marman; his brother Chris Burkhardt of Fort Irwin, Calif.; stepsister Lexie Marman; his grandfather Rhinholdt Burkhardt and his grandmother Vesta Marman of Sidney, Mont.; and his son Zachary Krueger.
Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Friday, Jan. 15, at Smith Funeral Chapel West End.

Irene Alice Dutton
Irene Alice Freimark Dutton, 76, formerly of Miles City, died Saturday, Jan. 9, 1999, at Valley Health Care Center.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 14, in the chapel of Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City with interment in the family lot in the Custer County cemetery.

Harvey C. Faigl
ROCK SPRINGS, Wyo. - Harvey C. Faigl, 76, formerly of Washoe, Mont., died Tuesday, Jan. 12, 1999, at his home.
Visitation will be Thursday afternoon, Jan. 14, until 8 p.m., and Friday, Jan. 15, until time of services at the Vase Funeral Chapel. A parish rosary will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Saints Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church with graveside services and interment in the Paul J. Wataha Memorial Park Section of the Rock Springs Municipal cemetery.

Ruby M. Hager
COLUMBUS - Ruby M. Hager, 79, of Columbus, passed away at the Stillwater Convalescent Center Wednesday, Jan. 13.
She was born Sept. 4, 1918, in Fromberg. She was raised until the age of 8 in Fromberg and then moved to Wyola where she attended school.
On Jan. 28, 1944, she married Clarence Ed Hager in Hardin and he preceded her in death Dec. 16, 1981.
They lived in Garryowen from 1949 until 1964 when they moved to Fromberg. She worked in the school lunch room for several years in Fromberg. In January 1994 she entered the Stillwater Convalescent Center in Columbus.
She enjoyed crocheting and knitting, cooking, her flowers and garden.
Survivors include her son, Alvie L. Hager and wife, LaVerna of Billings; two daughters, Barbara Mooney and husband, Eldon of Havre and Senia Wilhelm of Bremerton, Wash.; grandchildren, Vickie LeBrun and husband, Kevin of Livingston and Eddie Hager of Billings; three great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 16, at the Rockvale cemetery. Memorials to the Big Sky Hospice-Stillwater Team, P.O. Box 35033, Billings, Mont. 59107.

Lois Elizabeth Herbert
BUFFALO, Wyo. - Lois Elizabeth Heyl Herbert, 66, died Tuesday, Jan. 12, 1999, at her home of cancer.
Visitation will be 1-10 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 14, at the Adams Funeral Home. Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 15, in the funeral home chapel.

Bertha M. Jarrett
SHERIDAN, Wyo. - Bertha M. Jarrett, 80, died Tuesday, Jan. 12, 1999, at Sheridan Manor.
Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 15, at Kane Funeral Home. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 16, at the Ten Sleep cemetery.

Luther Auer
Luther E. Auer, 90, of Billings passed away Tuesday evening, March 23, 1999, at Valley Health Care.
He was born July 8, 1908, in Clinton, Mo., the son of Michael and Nellie Auer. His family moved to the Boyd area from Missouri when Luther was a child. They later lived in Billings and in 1920 moved to Comanche.
Luther married Annie Meyst, Dec. 2, 1927, in Broadview. They farmed at Comanche for 67 years prior to moving into Billings in October of 1994.
Along with farming he worked for Great Northern Railroad and worked construction, building the road between Billings and Broadview.
Luther enjoyed fishing, hunting, bowling, watching sports of all types and had played baseball as a young man. He had been a fan of the Billings Mustangs since 1948.
Luther had served on the Comanche School Board and served 17 years on the Broadview School Board. He was a member of Bethel Evangelical Church in Broadview, Lavina Masonic Lodge AF & AM, Eastern Star Chapter in Lavina, Scottish Rites Bodies in Billings.
Luther has really enjoyed living at West Park Village in Billings the past four-and-a-half years.
Survivors include his children, David (Louise) Auer of Billings, Rolla (Lem) Speer of Billings, Arlene (Paul) Arneson of Twisp, Wash., Montie (Sheri) Auer of Billings and Leslie (Diana) Auer of Broadview; 17 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren; his sister, Ruth Nelson of Helena, and brother, Richard Auer of Twentynine Palms, Calif.; numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife in 1995, and a sister and a brother.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, March 27, at Smith West Chapel. Interment will be in the Broadview cemetery. Memorials to the Broadview Community Center, Broadview, or the Bethel Evangelical Church, Box 65, Broadview.

Helen Marie Edeline Baracker
Helen Marie Edeline Baracker died March 22, 1999, at her home in the Aspen Meadows Retirement Community in Billings.
Helen was born on June 27, 1907, in Madison, S.D. She moved to Poplar as a young child with her parents, Robert and Gertrude Edeline, and nine brothers and sisters. She grew up, married , raised her family, and lived her life in Poplar.
On July 13, 1930, she married Howard Baracker in Havre. Mr. Baracker was a Poplar businessman and farmer, who preceded her in death in 1966.
She is survived by three children, Duane Baracker of Billings, Lois Beebe of Billings and Jerry Baracker of Whitefish; 15 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Audrey Buckles of Poplar; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitations will be held from 3 to 8 p.m. on Friday, March 26, at the First Presbyterian Church in Poplar with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 27, at the First Presbyterian Church with Rev. P.J. Southam of Wolf Point officiating. Interment will be in the Poplar City cemetery. Clayton Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Edna Bosso
Edna Bosso passed away at Aspen Meadows Nursing Home on Wednesday, March 24, 1999, at the age of 92.
She was born on Aug. 13, 1906, in Red Lodge, to Helkia and Hilja Mattson. They moved to a farm near Roberts when Edna was a little girl.
She grew up on the farm and later married Bill Peters. They had a son, Willard, who was killed in a car accident when he was 17. She and Bill divorced when Willard was young.
Edna married Steve Bosso in December of 1936. They lived in Butte and Washington State during World War II. They later returned to Red Lodge where Edna cooked in the Red Lodge Cafe for 18 years. Steve passed away in 1969. Edna moved to Billings in April, 1974.
Edna was a perfectionist which was evidenced by her beautiful handwork, crocheting, and knitting. She created beautiful afghans and bedspreads and was a wonderful gardener.
The last six years of her life were spent in a private nursing home operated by Shirley Lester. We shall forever be grateful for the loving care she received in this home.
Edna is survived by one sister, Martha M. Pruitt, and by numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father and mother; her son; two brothers, John and Emmanuel Mattson; two sisters, Eleanor Johnson and Esther Luoma; and a niece, Diana Haberman.
Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, March 26, at the Roberts cemetery. Visitations will begin at noon on Thursday, March 25, at the Smith Downtown Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Roberts Community Foundation, Box 284, Roberts, MT 59070, or to the charity of your choice.
Smith Downtown Chapel of Billings is in charge of arrangements.
