Boyd McMurchie
Boyd McMurchie Sr., 90, of Billings, died Wednesday, Jan. 6, 1999 at Deaconess Hospital.
The son of James Duncan and Jane Davis McMurchie, Boyd was born Jan. 20, 1908 in Clay County, S.D. He was the youngest child in a family of six. Raised on the family farm just outside of Centerville, S.D., Boyd attended Frog Creek Rural School and graduated from Centerville High School, He graduated with a degree in Animal Husbandry from Iowa State College, Ames Iowa.

Boyd married Dorothy Ann Leiper in Glendive, Mont., July 25, 1934. They have celebrated well over 60 years of marriage together.

Mr. McMurchie was in the cattle business his entire professional life. Boyd and Dorothy moved to Ontario, Ore., in 1935 where they lived until moving to Payette, Idaho, where Boyd was manager of the Payette Livestock Feeding Company and purchasing agent for the Alvord Ranch, along with continuing to operate McMurchie Meadows farms with his two brothers. He also managed pasture cattle at Long Valley, Payette Lakes and the Bear Valley summer pastures south of Evanston, Wyo. In 1951 he became manager and buyer for the Denver Division of Wilson Packing Company for their cattle feeding operations in Idaho, Oregon, and Washington. In 1955 he was transferred to Billings, Mont., where he opened and managed a cattle buying station for Wilson packing. In 1960 Boyd went into business for himself as an independent cattle buyer. He continued running this business until retirement in the early 1990's.

Boyd and Dorothy were faithful members of the Congregational Church all their lives.

A generous, devoted husband and father, besides his family, work, gardening, and maintaining his lovely home and yard, Boyd loved traveling. He and Dorothy had traveled extensively throughout the United States and Canada,

Survivors include his wife Dorothy of Billings, three children, Boyd Leiper McMurchie of Mitchell, S.D.; Mary Carol McMurchie of Billings; David James McMurchie and his wife Pauline of Springfield, Va.; and seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 11, 1999 at Mayflower Congregational Church. Prayer services will be 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 13, 1999 at Wass Home for Funerals, Centerville, S.D. Interment will be in Union cemetery, Wakonda, S.D.

Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society.

Jean Rogers
LEEDS, Utah - Mildred Jean "Bunny" Rogers, 60, passed away Jan. 5, 1999 at the Dixie Regional Medical Center in St. George. She was born March 28, 1938 in Miles City, Mont., to Martin Luther and Mildred Clayton Gilbert. She married Frank Rogers May 21, 1954 in Forsyth, Mont.
Jean was raised in Miles City and Billings, Mont., and graduated from Senior High School in Billings. She worked as a telephone operator in Billings and worked as a cook for several of the restaurants in Boise, Idaho. She lived in Boise for 10 years and Nevada for seven years. Jean enjoyed playing the piano, singing, fishing and camping.

She is survived by her husband, Frank of Leeds; one son, Dan (Lisa) Rogers of Rawlins, Wyo.; two daughters, Deniece (Scott) Myrow of Portland, Ore., and Patty (Kirk) French of Portland, Ore.; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; brother, John Gilbert of Rigby, Idaho; five sisters-in-law: Mildred Dragoo of Billings, Mont., Janiece Koch of Boise, Idaho, Betty Taylor of Ballantine, Mont., Judy Hanson of Lavina, Mont., and Beverly Barta of Forsyth, Mont.; and brother-in-law, Donny Rogers of Custer, Mont.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Jan. 9, 1999 at 11 a.m. at Congregational Church in Custer, Mont. Interment will be in the Custer cemetery under the direction of Michelotti, Sawyers & Nordquist Mortuary.

June Drowley Terrett
HELENA - Surrounded by her loving family, June Drowley Terrett died Jan. 6, 1999, at St. Peter's Hospital in Helena following a brief and courageous battle with leukemia.
June Terrett was born Nov. 29, 1919, in Glendive to Gil and Aurilla Drowley. She grew up in Glendive and graduated with a fine arts degree from Montana State University in Bozeman in 1941. In December 1941, she married L. C. "Pete" Terrett, a newly commissioned lieutenant in the U. S. Army Air Corps. The Terretts returned to Montana following World War II, when Pete began his lifelong banking career in Glendive under the tutelage of June's father, the president of First National Bank. They were married 17 years and had three children: Jill, Jack and Jane.

She was a strong advocate for the developmentally disabled and mentally ill in the Glendive community. She was involved in the legislative effort which culminated in the establishment of Eastmont and the five regional Montana mental health centers. She served on the Dawson County Mental Health Association Board and was president of the Southeastern Montana ARC. She was proud to have named Eastmont. Her participation in the music community both as a volunteer in the Community Concert Association and as a professional organ and piano teacher spanned over 25 years.

Following her father's death, June became a director of the board of First National Bank of Glendive and served in that capacity for 29 years, as well as holding the auditor's position at the bank for many years. In 1986 June moved to Helena to be near her family and to build her dream home.

June enjoyed world travels with friends and family, walks in Montana's great outdoors, boating, music activities and was a talented artist and needlework expert.

June was preceded in death by parents and is survived by her children: Jill Rohyans and husband, Ken, Jack Terrett and Jane Terrett, all of Helena. She was especially proud of her four granddaughters' music and professional accomplishments. They are: Terri Leary and husband, Mick of Boulder; Amy Rohyans of Boise, Idaho; Becki Rohyans of Helena; and Chrissy Kartevold of Nashville, Tenn. Also surviving are her three great-grandsons: Tyson Benson, Kahner and Reilly Leary of Boulder. It was a special joy to attend and support Tyson's many sporting events.

June lived her life with a dignity and grace that inspired her family and endeared her to her many dear friends.

Funeral service will be held in Glendive, Monday, Jan. 11, at 10:30 a.m. at the Pilgrim Congregational Church. A memorial gathering will also be held in Helena, Wednesday, Jan. 13, at 2 p.m. at the First Congregational Church with private burial of cremains to follow.

Memorials may be made to Helena Special Olympics, 1030 Hollins, Helena, MT 59601 or to St. Peter's Hospital Foundation, Helena, MT 59601. Arrangements are under the direction of Hagler-Anderson Mortuary.

Duane C. Martens
FORSYTH - Duane C. Martens, age 58, of Forsyth, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 5, 1999, at the Deaconess Medical Center in Billings after suffering a heart attack at his home in Forsyth.
Duane was born in Billings on July 18, 1940, the son of Arthur and Minnie (Wetsch) Martens. He attended elementary school in Billings through the third grade when they moved to Forsyth where he graduated from high school in 1958. He worked for his father on the family farm at Howard Flat until he entered the U.S. Army where he served for three years before returning to Forsyth.

Duane married Sharon Brewer in Forsyth on Aug. 17, 1963. They purchased their farm at Vananda, which they operated until the time of his death. In 1991, Duane became a Rosebud County commissioner, an office he held until the time of his death.

Duane was a Rosebud County commissioner, a member of the ASCS, SCS, Rosebud Health Center, and Forsyth Country Club. He loved to play cards, dance, bowl, fish, jet ski, hunt, snowmobile and most of all spend time with his grandchildren.

Duane is survived by his wife, Sharon Martens of Forsyth; two sons: Scott Martens and his wife, Melanie, and Doug Martens and his wife, Jenell, all of Forsyth; a daughter, Tammy Sorenson and her husband, Robert of Forsyth; three brothers: John Vanderpas of Portland, Ore., Albert Martens of Forsyth, and Eugene Martens of Tipton, Mo.; three sisters: Ann Schenk of Winnett, June Watson of Forsyth, and Marge Simenson of Forsyth; and six grandchildren: Dustin, Kordelle and Aeriel Martens, Riley, Dylan, and Tanner Sorenson; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents.

A prayer service will be held Friday, Jan. 8, at 7 p.m. in the chapel of Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Forsyth. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Jan. 9, at 2 p.m. at the Federated Church in Forsyth with Don Holland officiating. Interment will follow in the family lot in the Forsyth cemetery. Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home of Forsyth is in charge of the arrangements.

Should friends desire, memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Gloria Marianne Braun Fjeldheim
LAKEWOOD, Colo. - Gloria Marianne Braun Fjeldheim, 68, of Lakewood, passed away Jan. 6, 1999.
A memorial will be at Applewood Baptist Church, 11200 W. 32 Ave., Jan. 8, at 11 a.m., and also at 2 p.m. at the First Lutheran Church in Glasgow, Mont.

Gloria was born Sept. 27, 1930, in Spokane, Wash., to Henry and Dorothy Harbke Braun. She married Orville Fjeldheim in 1949 in Malta, Mont. She and Orville moved to Glasgow in 1953 and with their family owned and operated the Glasgow Livestock Sales Co. in Glasgow for 44 years. Gloria moved to Denver in 1980 and was involved as a travel agent and then as a real estate salesperson in the Denver area for 16 years, earning numerous awards for volume sales and customer service.

Gloria enjoyed her children and grandchildren, was a competition class ballroom dancer, winning first place awards in the 1987 Denver Challenge in waltz, rumba, tango and exhibition swing; enjoyed music and golf. She enjoyed traveling with friends to places such as Germany, Scandinavia, Mexico, Peru and Japan. She was active in church, PEO and numerous social organizations.

Gloria was preceded in death by her husband, Orville in 1976, and her parents. She is survived by all her children: Robert and wife, Annette of Lewistown, Mont., and their children, Brent of El Jebel, Sara of Missoula, Mont., Brad and Blake of Lewistown; Ellen Rapkoch of Spokane, and her children, Libby of Bellingham, Wash., and Patrick of Spokane; Neil Fjeldheim of Mercer Island, Wash.; Daryl and wife, Jill of Talent, Ore.; sister, Patricia Drumheller of Gig Harbor, Wash.; and her special friend, George Pickens of Fruita.

Albert F. Hall
JOLIET - Albert F. Hall passed away peacefully Jan. 6, 1999, at his home in Joliet.
Albert was born Jan. 24, 1922, the youngest of six children to Richard and Nettie Blythe Hall in Joliet. He attended Joliet schools, graduating in 1940. After graduating from high school he worked in the CCC until the outbreak of WWII, when he enlisted in the Army, serving with the 10th Mountain Division in Italy until 1945. Following his honorable discharge, he worked as a painter for the Northern Pacific Railroad until he went into partnership with his brother, Homer, in the Conoco service station and bulk plant in Joliet from 1947 until 1951. He was united in marriage to Glenda H. Estes on Aug. 26, 1950, in Harlowton.

Albert was a life member of the VFW Post 5748 and served as district commander. He was a member of the Rebekah Lodge of Joliet and a member of the Beartooth Elks Lodge. He served as a Councilman for the Town of Joliet. He also drove the school bus for 31 years for the Joliet School District. He was the owner/operator of the Conoco service station until November 1995, when ill health forced him to retire.

Albert played baseball for the town team and he enjoyed fishing in the mountains. In the 10 years of his sons playing football, he missed only one game.

He is survived by his wife, Glenda of 48 years, and three sons, Jim of Joliet, Bob and wife, Cathy of Boyd, and Bill and wife, Jane of Forsyth; grandsons, Bryant Nutting and wife, Sheri, and great-grandson, Bryan of Billings, Shawn Hall and fiancÈe, Tina Nicola of Joliet, Ian and Daniel Hall of Boyd; a granddaughter and great-grandson of Billings; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, all siblings, and grandson Paul Nutting.

A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, Jan. 9, at 11 a.m. at the Joliet Hospitality Room. Cremation has taken place and a private family interment will be held at a later date. The family requests memorials be sent to the Joliet Ambulance Service, P.O. Box 324, Joliet, MT 59041 or Beartooth Hospital and Health Center Home Care Memorial, P.O. Box 590, Red Lodge, MT 59068. Arrangements were made by Cremation or Funeral Gallery.

Larry T. Font
COLUMBUS - Larry T. Font, 42, of Columbus, formerly of Missoula, passed away Jan. 9, 1999, at Deaconess Hospital in Billings of heart failure.
Larry was born March 28, 1956, in Warren, Pa., and graduated from Warren Area High School in 1974. He moved to Montana with his family in 1978.

Larry served in the U.S. Air Force, stationed at Offutt Air Base in Omaha, Neb. He was active with the Red Cross volunteer services and an accomplished genealogist. He traveled to Ireland studying the maternal side of the family and had plans to travel to Italy to study the paternal side as well. He had a gifted memory and loved his family.

He is survived by his parents, Mary Ann and Thomas A. Font of Arlee; two sisters, Barbara Royce and her husband, Mitch, and Susan Roberts and her husband, Kent; a niece, Megan Royce and a nephew, Matthew Roberts, all of Missoula.

Visitation will be 6:30 p.m. until 9 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 12, at The Malletta Family of Funeral Homes, Sunset Chapel. The Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 13, at the Arlee Catholic Church with Father Gus Schmidt as celebrant. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial cemetery in Missoula.

The family suggests memorials may be made in Larry's name to the American Red Cross, 1821 South Ave. W., Missoula, MT 59801.

F. Raymond Young
SPOKANE, Wash. - Funeral services wi1l be held for Ray Young, 88, on Thursday, Jan. 14, l999, 11 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Hysham, Mont. Mr. Young, a Spokane, Wash. resident since 1982, died Jan. 7 after a long illness.
Mr. Young was born and raised near Belfield, N.D., but lived most of his adult life in Montana.

He married Dolores Zent of Hysham, Mont., in 1941 and they settled in Miles City, Mont., where he was in the grocery business and farmed at Kinsey until 1961 when they moved to Billings and he continued farming in the nearby Hysham area.

He was a lifetime member of the Elks Club and the Knights of Columbus in Montana and member of St. Peter's Parish, the Kiwanis and the Southside Newcomers Club in Spokane.

Survivors include his wife, Dolores; a daughter and son-in-law, Cathy and Tom Hopkins of Spokane; a son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Shirley Young of Great Falls, Mont.; a sister Virginia Angle of Billings, Mont., plus six grandchildren: Bethany, Stephen and Brittany Hopkins, Jeff, Kevin and Tyler Young.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Morningstar Boys Ranch of Spokane.
