Clarice Fern Reed Veatch Tinnes
Clarice Fern Reed Veatch Tinnes, always known as Fern, was very proud of each of these names. Her declaration of this pride began July 24, 1913, in Sparta, Ill. She was married to the late S. Robert Veatch May 18, 1935, in Fromberg. Together, they built their residence at 3915 4th Ave. So., Billings, in which she was proud to claim she had lived 64 years. Fern loved music, jam sessions, dancing, horses, knitting, sewing and crocheting, but her true obsession was butterflies. She had over 400 butterflies on doilies, stained glass, wind chimes, china, notepads, pencils, cards, earrings, necklaces, and anything else that could depict a butterfly.

Sara Becker
PLENTYWOOD - The funeral Liturgy for Sara Becker will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 20, 1999. Father Brian Meredith will celebrate the Liturgy at St. Joseph's Catholic Church; interment will be in Plentywood cemetery. Sara Becker, born Feb. 25, 1909, was welcomed into the Lord's Kingdom on Jan. 16, 1999, when she died at the Billings Deaconess Hospital.
Born in Glen Ullin, N.D., to Adam and Elizabeth Kohler, she attended schools in North Dakota until the age of 15 when her family moved to Missoula. Sara enthusiastically worked as a nurse's aide at St. Patrick's Hospital for a dollar a day. After a year in Missoula, Sara's parents decided to move to the Raymond area, where they homesteaded. Sara was wary of the move to a thinly populated, remote corner of Montana which ended up being her lifelong home. She helped maintain the family farm, which included driving a team of eight horses with her brother, John Kohler, and she also worked for neighboring families.

She married John Becker on Dec. 30, 1930, and they made their home on a farm near Raymond. Together they raised five children through an economic depression and world war. Amidst that turmoil their children were taught to believe in their God, their family, and themselves. Sara moved to Plentywood after her husband died March 16, 1974.

Sara belonged to St. Joseph's Catholic Church. She was a member of Catholic Daughters, and was a charter member of St. Raymond's Guild. Sara also was a leader of the Raymond 4-H Club, where she guided others with her sewing expertise. Sara enjoyed working in her flower gardens, baking, both German and Traditional foods, and sewing.

She possessed a strong, competitive spirit that came out when she played horseshoes, card games, and most of all when she bowled. Sara loved the sport of bowling, and she excelled at it. Sara and her husband gained a vast array of trophies and awards during the time they bowled, but the most beneficial part of her bowling years were the life-long friendships that were formed and the memories that she cherished her whole life. Sara also enjoyed watching baseball. Her sons played in the Big Muddy League while they were growing up, but after they left home Sara turned to professional baseball. Her favorite team was the Chicago Cubs, and she often referred to them as "her Cubbies."

Sara is survived by four children: John (Theresa) of Raymond; Ralph (Carolyn) of Mount Pleasant, Mich.; Elaine Jones (Herman) of Sapulpa, Okla.; and Jeanette French (Gordon) of Redstone; and daughter-in-law, Dolores Becker of Scobey. She is also survived by three sisters, Jo Dietrich of San Marcos, Calif.; Kay Eggen (Joe) of Plentywood; and Liz Dubry of Bellflower, Calif. She is also survived by 23 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, John, in 1974, and son, Don, in 1996, as well as by her parents, four brothers, and two sisters.
