Louise Collier Ostby
Helen Louise Collier Ostby, always called Louise, passed gently and sweetly on Sunday afternoon, Jan. 17, 1999, in Billings surrounded by her family. Louise was born on June 5, 1919, in Memphis, Tenn., to L.K. and Gertrude Collier.
Her good life there as the oldest twin in a family of five was changed by Lt. Riley O. Ostby's assignment to Camp McCain, Miss. At the time of their marriage on Nov. 26, 1945, Riley was a captain and Louise had agreed to life in Riley's native Montana.

In 1947, Louise and Riley established a successful water conditioning business in Wolf Point where they lived more than 40 years of business life and created a loving home and sanctuary for their three children. During those years Louise was known as consummate hostess, cook, seamstress, bookkeeper, bridge player and business partner. Most significantly, she was wife, mother, sister, and friend.

In her last decades all marveled at her strength and courage as she lived her everyday in the face of the ravages of rheumatoid arthritis and the effects of its treatment. No family member, no physician, no friend had ever encountered anyone who more wanted to live. Her iron will gave her many extra years with her grateful family.

Those gathering to celebrate Louise's life include her caring, devoted, loving husband, Riley; her children and their partners: daughters, Nancy Aagenes and Jason Jonas of Helena, Carolyn Ostby and Gilbert Burdett, and son, Alan Ostby and Margaret Beeson Ostby, all of Billings. Grandchildren include Madeline Louise Aagenes, C. Mark Aagenes, Paul Seastrand Burdett, Helen Elizabeth Collier Burdett and Julius Riley Beeson Ostby. Her siblings include Madeline Derryberry of Glasgow, Ethylene Bolton of Memphis, and twin brother, Louis K. Collier of Harrisburg, Ark.

A service to remember and celebrate Louise's life will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 22, at the First Presbyterian Church in Billings. All are welcome. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the Montana Rescue Mission in Billings.

Malven A. Roske
TURAH - Malven A. Roske, 89, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 17, 1999, at his home in Turah of cancer.
He was born on Feb. 7, 1909, in Salmon, Idaho, to John and Minnie Roske. He was raised and educated in Salmon until he was 15 when his family moved to Columbia Falls. He moved to Ronan when he was 18 and lived there for the next 10 years.

On Dec. 7, 1938, he married Ruby Mae Hedges in Kalispell. The couple moved to Park City where Mal worked as a carpenter and farmer until 1955. They then moved to Pine Grove and then settled in Turah in 1962.

He was a member of the Carpenters Union. His hobbies included dancing and working with horses.

Mal was a man of few words but always had a twinkle in his eye; he was a proud man that carried himself with dignity. You couldn't miss him in a crowd; he was that well-dressed cowboy with his hat tipped to the right at a rakish angle. He loved to step out on a Saturday night driving his Ford pickup to the nearest country western dance and gliding across the floor doing his graceful two-step. Follow the trail Grandpa; keep the fire burning and we will be there.

Mal was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Fay; a son, John Ronald Roske; a great-grandson, Joseph Roske; and his sister, Dorothy Fifield. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Ruby; two children, Rita L. Swartz and her husband, Dick of Judith Gap and Richard Roske and his wife, Shannon of Turah; five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, several cousins, nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Jan. 23, at 1 p.m. at Garden City Funeral Home. A reception will follow in the funeral home's community room.

The family suggests memorials to Partners in Home Care, 500 N. Higgins, Missoula, MT 59802 or to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 3914, Missoula, MT 59806.

Arrangements are under the care of Garden City Funeral Home and Crematory.
