Fayola McGinnis
Fayola McGinnis, age 89, of Billings, died Tuesday, Feb. 9, at Billings Deaconess Medical Center.
She was born Aug. 7, 1909, near Adel, Iowa, the daughter of William and Martha (Reynolds) McGinnis. She graduated from the University of Iowa in 1931. Fayola spent six years teaching commercial subjects in Iowa high schools and attending Columbia University in the summers.

In 1939, Fayola moved to Buenos Aires, Argentina, to teach in private schools. In 1942, she received a government appointment to the Department of State Foreign Service at the U.S. Embassy in Buenos Aires. In 1946, she went to Shanghai, China, with the agriculture attachÈ in the American Consulate General. Later she was assigned to Frankfurt, Germany, with a promotion to vice consul. In 1953, she left the Foreign Service and took a position with the Bureau of Indian Affairs, working in Phoenix, Albuquerque, and Billings where she retired in 1977 to be near her sister, May Hoy, and her brother, Elmer.

Fayola enjoyed bridge, the theater, sports, traveling and taking trips with the senior citizens. She was an avid writer and storyteller, detailing the many places around the world she had visited. She was a member of AAUW, NARFE and Senior Citizens.

Survivors include two nieces, Norma Reitz and husband, Cleve of Billings, and Patricia Roemer and husband, Jack of Missoula; and a nephew, Harold Hoy and wife, Doris of Billings. She was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers and one sister.

Memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 13, at the First Congregational United Church of Christ. Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Smith's Downtown Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

William H. Clayton Jr.
BIGHORN - William H. Clayton Jr., 64, of Bighorn, passed away Monday, Jan. 25, 1999, in Custer.
He was born March 26, 1934, in Valentine, Neb., a son of William Clayton Sr. and Charlotte Foster. At the age of 3, he moved with his family to Council, Idaho, where he grew up and attended schools. Following his education, he enlisted in the US Air Force and later received his Honorable Discharge.

Bill married Virginia Womack on July 27, 1958, in Grangeville, Idaho. The couple made their home in Idaho until moving in 1963 to the Townsend area. In 1983, the family moved to the Custer area. He was a self-employed heavy equipment operator, he loved to mine for minerals. Bill taught himself to fly and owned his own twin engine, which he flew on his business dealings. He also founded the White Rock Mine at Winston.

Bill was a member of the Custer Congregational Church.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia of Bighorn; two daughters, Traci Johnson of Bighorn and Teri George of Wright, Wyo.; three sons, Bill of Townsend, A.J. of White Sulphur Springs and Bobby of Billings; one sister, Lee Raugust of Custer; one brother, Arnold Clayton of Boise, Idaho; 15 grandchildren, one great-grandchild and a close friend, Karon Alton.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Friday in the Custer Congregational Church. Interment will follow in the Custer cemetery. Bullis Mortuary of Hardin has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Richard McQuillan
Richard McQuillan passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Jan. 26, 1999, at Valley Health Care Center. He was born Dec. 6, 1910, in Miles City, where he enjoyed his school years.
In 1935, Richard married Katherine Link whom survives him along with his five daughters and their families: Florence and Eddie Zundel and their children, Carrie Hayes, Larry Zundel and Julie Stephenson; Diane and Jerry Smith and their boys, Mark and Scott; Susan McQuillan; Mary Ann and Martin Feeley and their sons, Matthew and Richard; and Kathy and Doug Logue; and several nieces and nephews. Richard was preceded in death by his son, Tim, his parents, one sister and one brother.

Richard had a twinkle in his eye and a glad handshake for all. He was a dedicated carpenter and loved his work. He was a member of St. Thomas Church, the Knights of Columbus, and a life member of the Carpenter Union No. 1172. The family wishes to thank all people who lovingly cared for him.

The Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 27, at Michelotti, Sawyers & Nordquist, 1001 Alderson Ave. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 28, at St. Thomas the Apostle Church. Cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Vincent DePaul, 2610 Montana Ave., Billings, MT 59101 or the charity of one's choice.

Neil Farnes
BALLANTINE - Neil Farnes, 74, of Ballantine, passed away at his home on Sunday evening, Jan. 24, 1999.
Neil was born in Broadview on Nov. 20, 1924, a son of Walter J. and Marcia (Bumgarner) Farnes. He received his education at a country school near Broadview and worked farms and ranches in the Rapelje area prior to enlisting in the army in 1944. Following his honorable discharge in 1947 he returned to Montana and worked on farms in the area. Neil was living with his brother, Paul when he began working construction with him and it continued for over 30 years until his retirement in 1986. In 1977 he married Gayle Jarrett in Cody, Wyo. He was an active member of V.F.W. Post 7407 of Worden.

Survivors include his stepdaughter, Kathy Gadberry of Ballantine; two stepsons, Gary Jarrett of Ballantine and Alan Jarrett of Great Falls; his brother, Paul of Worden; a sister, Eula Lutgen of Rapelje; his special friend and fiancÈe, Marjorie Hoagland of Ballantine; six step-grandchildren and two step great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gayle in 1994, two brothers and one sister.

Cremation has taken place and a graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 29, at the Pleasantview cemetery in Ballantine. Memorials are suggested to V.F.W. Post 7407 in Worden or the charity of your choice. Smith Downtown Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Andrew James Middleton
LAUREL - Andrew James Middleton, infant son of Bryan and Tamra Middleton of Laurel, was stillborn Friday evening, Jan. 22, 1999, at St. Vincent Hospital in Billings.
In addition to his parents, Andrew is survived by maternal grandparents, Stan and Joan Skinner of Worland, Wyo.; paternal grandparents, Kenneth and Loretta Middleton of Minden, La; maternal great-grandparents, Hoover and Wilma Renner of Worland; and paternal great-grandparents, James and Mozelle Middleton of Haynesville, La, and Eugene and Faye Hunter of Fort Worth, Texas; and aunts and uncles, Jonathan and Susan Middleton, Sarah Graves, and Josh and Lily Pederson, all of Minden, and Randy and Tia Benson of Columbus.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 30, in St. Olaf Lutheran Church, northwest of Red Lodge, with the Rev. Jeff Olsgaard officiating. Interment of cremains will be in the St. Olaf cemetery, with Olcott Funeral Chapel of Red Lodge in charge of arrangements.

Doris Audrey Swecker Strong Flanders
CENTERVILLE, Utah - Doris Audrey Swecker Strong Flanders, 66, died Jan. 23, 1999, in Salt Lake City. She was born March 27, 1932, in Zap, N.D., the fourth child of Aubrey and Mabel Swecker. She married Walter D. Strong, July 5, 1950, in Billings, and was later sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple, Sept. 3, 1976. Walter died Jan. 23, 1990. She later married C. Bryan Flanders of Centerville, May 14, 1994.
Doris is survived by her husband; three daughters: Brenda Grogan (Benny), Debra Thelen (Rodney) and Margaret Ard (Kim). When she married Bryan she added six more children to her family: Mazie Crays (Don), Ferrin Flanders (Wendy), Nina Weaver (Randy), Gordon Flanders (Chris), Doris Martin (Rick) and Jared Flanders (Jolynn). She enjoyed 40 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Also surviving are sisters: Ruth Bathhurst, Betty Entzel (Al); and brothers: Ray Swecker, Duane Swecker (Diane) and Vernon Swecker (Lynn). Doris was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Kenneth Swecker.

She will be greatly missed by family and friends.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 30, 1999, in the Billings East LDS Stake Center, corner of Wicks and Broadmoor. Interment will follow at Pleasantview cemetery. The casket is closed to the public.

Yuri Judah Hause
BOZEMAN - Yuri Judah Hause was born in Aberdeen, S.D., on April 30, 1980. Yuri attended elementary school at Beach, N.D., and his high school years were spent at Colstrip. While attending high school Yuri worked at the Colstrip Subway Sandwiches. Upon graduation Yuri was employed as a carpenter with Murray Brothers' Construction in Belgrade. Yuri had a multitude of interests and a multitude of friends.
Yuri died of injuries that occurred as a result of a two-car accident near Three Forks on Jan. 24, 1999. Yuri is survived by grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John Knott of Lebanon, S.D., and Mr. and Mrs. Robert Hause of Gettysburg, S.D.; parents, Mr. Dennis Hause of Colstrip and Mrs. Marge Fisher of Fort Worth, Texas; two sisters, Claire and Grace Fisher of Fort Worth; and several uncles, aunts and cousins.

Visitation will be held on Friday, Jan. 29, 1999, from 6:30 p.m.-9:30 p.m., and on Saturday, Jan. 30, 1999, from 8 a.m.-9 a.m. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Jan. 30, 1999, at 10 a.m. at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Forsyth. Interment will follow in the family lot in the Forsyth cemetery. There will be a luncheon following the funeral at the Funeral Home.

Jack Turner

HYATTVILLE, Wyo. - Jack Turner, 91, a grand old man of the Wyoming cattle industry, died Sunday, Jan. 24, in West Park Hospital in Cody, Wyo.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 30, at the school house in Hyattville, Wyo. Lunch will be served at 11:30 a.m. with a funeral procession to the Greybull cemetery at 1 p.m. where "Cowboy Jack" will be sent off with Masonic graveside services and 100 balloons. The family asks that friends bring a photo of their families and a short message of the years they knew Jack and how they knew him to pin on Jack Turner's Quilt of his Life (1907-1999) "which we'll send with him."

Jack Turner was born Nov. 9, 1907, in Lane, Kans., one of 13 children of Charles Henry and Tessie Turner. He boxed in Kansas to help feed six younger Turner children and to help the state funded hospital in Lane. He came to Wyoming in 1929 because his brother Harry in Manderson wanted him to come and be a cowboy.

In 1932 he homesteaded in the Big Horn Mountains with $1.75 in his pocket and put together the 6, 000 acre Turner breeding ranch of purebred registered Hereford cattle. He and his best friend Slim Greer caught wild horses and broke them for $5 to pay for their homesteads. He raised grand champion bulls 52 years, including the 1963 Calgary Stampede champion.

He married Helen Shoemaker in 1944. Helen died in 1978. Mr. Turner married Elaine Shipman of Phoenix July 12, 1979. They met in Scottsdale, Ariz., through Katie Sanford Ervin of Thermopolis. His wife survives along with many nieces and nephews and 114 children he and Elaine "sort of" adopted over the years. In 1997, he established a $25, 000 FFA Scholarship at Riverside School in Basin, Wyo. He was an honorary lifetime member of the Big Horn County 4-H and Big Horn FFA.

Mr. Turner was a member of the First Baptist Church, Greybull. He had served as president of the Tri-State Hereford Association, Soil Conservation Committee (17 years), the Big Horn Breeder Association, the Tri-County Hereford Association, the Old Timers (five years), and the Wyoming Hereford Association. He was a 50-year member and past master of the Ten Sleep Masonic Lodge, treasurer of the Hyattville Water Association for many years, and for many years a deputy sheriff in the Big Horn Mountains. He was also a member of the Big Horn Historical Society, a docent at the Washakie County Museum, and assistant state director with Elaine of the Miss Wyoming Pageant for several years.

He was nominated to the Cowboy Hall of Fame in 1994.

The Jack Turner Memorial Scholarship has been established at Security State Bank, P.O. Box 51, Basin, WY 82410.

Marvin B. Davis
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Marvin B. Davis went to be with his Lord on Jan. 23, 1999.
He was born Sept. 7, 1936, in Deadwood, S.D., to Ray and Goldie Davis. Marvin graduated from Senior High School in Billings in 1956 and married Patricia Anne List on Oct. 31 of that same year. By profession, Marvin was a design engineer, but it was his personal life that touched so many.

He was an elder and a teacher in his church for 25 years.

Marvin spent many hours in his beloved shop with his family and friends, sharing, laughing, and most of all, creating with his incredible mind and hands.

He was attending Pikes Peak Community College to slake his insatiable thirst for knowledge.

Marvin was preceded in joining the Lord by his mother, Goldie Pearl Davis, and his youngest daughter, Linda Lee Acott.

Remaining behind are: his adoring wife, Patricia; Marvin's daughters and sons of his heart: Kathi and Mike Crane, Billings, Laura and Roman Hidrogo, Colorado Springs, Pam and Jim Cox, Colorado Springs; his father: Ray M. Davis and his wife, Beverly; sister: Jean and Grant Edsall; brother: Ed and Sue Davis; grandchildren: Joshua Crane, Angela and Layne Tandeski, Logan and Maria Hidrogo, Jennifer and Robbie Horton and Maegan Cox; the newest addition and joy of Marvin's life, his great-granddaughter, Bailey Erin Horton; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

A myriad of friends will remember his accomplishments, integrity, generosity and love.

In lieu of flowers a memorium to Gethsemane Open Bible Fellowship would be welcome, 1628 Babcock Lane, Colorado Springs, Colo. 80915.

Though we yearn to be with you now, we will meet you in eternity.

Irene Myra Long
THERMOPOLIS, Wyo. - Irene Myra Long, 85, died Monday, Jan. 25, 1999, at her home.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 28, at Mortimore Funeral Home with interment in Riverside cemetery.

Andrew James Middleton

Betty Lee Darrah
LEWISTOWN - Betty Lee Darrah, 66, of Lewistown, died Friday in St. Vincent Hospital in Billings of cancer. She was born April 14, 1932, in Lewistown, the daughter of William A. and Marie McCollum.
She received her education in Lewistown and then began working in Lewistown at various jobs. In 1952 she was united in marriage to Eugene Naasz. She worked as a waitress in several restaurants in Lewistown. On Aug. 25, 1962, she was united in marriage to Larry Darrah in Roundup. She then attended Acme Beauty College in Billings to become a cosmetologist. After completing her schooling she worked with Lois Ann Weed in Lewistown. In 1969 she realized her dream of becoming self-employed and opened a beauty salon in the basement of her home. She operated this salon until October of 1998.

Betty enjoyed snowmobiling, camping, arts and crafts, time with her family and life to its fullest.

Betty was active in the Community Concert Association and Christian Women's Club.

She is survived by her husband, Larry of Lewistown; two sons: Kenneth E. Naasz of Billings and William G. Darrah of Colorado Springs, Colo.; two daughters: Laurice L. Darrah of Bozeman and Diane M. Naasz of Glasgow; one brother: Duane (Dewey) McCollum of Lewistown; an aunt and uncle, Betty and Don Hardy of Lewistown; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Dawn C. Naasz; her parents; one brother, Marion McCollum; and one sister, Barbara Stingley.

Memorial Services for Betty L. Darrah will be Saturday, Feb. 13, 1999, at 2 p.m. in the Cloyd Chapel with burial to follow in the Central Montana Memorials Gardens of Lewistown. The Cloyd Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Cremation has taken place.

Friends may make memorials to the Northern Rockies Cancer Center, P.O. Box 369, Billings, MT 59103-0369 or the charity of their choice and they may be left at the Cloyd Funeral Home.

Margarete J. Hicks
WICHITA, Kan. - Margarete J. Hicks, 73, of Wichita, a homemaker and former resident of Nowata, Okla., died Tuesday, Jan. 26, 1999. She was born May 22, 1925, in Brieg, Germany, to Karl Haschke and Anna Schubert.
Survivors include her husband, Irvin L. Hicks; sons, Lewis V. Hicks of Billings and Anthony C. Hicks of Delaware, Okla.; sister, Maria Pomirko of Toronto, Canada; and three grandchildren.

Services are at 9 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 28, 1999, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Wichita. The Downing & Lahey Mortuary of Wichita is in charge of arrangements.

A Memorial has been established with the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Heart of America Chapter, 5750 W. 95th St., Overland Park, Kan. 66207.

Bernice Skerlock Jenkins
Bernice Elizabeth Skerlock Jenkins, 75, went to be with the Lord on Jan. 27, 1999, after a short battle with cancer.
She was born Dec. 8, 1923, at home in Titus County, Texas, to John and Willie Scott.

She spent most of her young life on the family farm helping raise her younger siblings. She graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School. Bernice married Alex Skerlock on Jan. 5, 1943, and later married William Jenkins while living in Seattle, Wash. During her second marriage she moved back to Mt. Pleasant, Texas, to take care of her mother until her death

While living in Texas she became a member of the Rebekkahs Lodge. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, sewing and gardening. In 1986, she returned to Montana to be near her children.

She is survived by her son, W. Scott Skerlock (Rhonda) of Billings, and daughter, Elizabeth Ann Siller (Harvey) of Great Falls; three brothers: Jack, Brad and Hal, and sister, Frances; grandchildren, Scott, Michael, Marisa and Kim; five great-grandchildren and numerous nephews and nieces who were all blessed by her love and beautiful sense of humor.

Memorial services will be held 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 30, 1999, at Smith's West Funeral Chapel. Interment will be in Texas at a later date. Cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in her name to American Cancer Society or Big Sky Hospice.
