Claudine Ann Wolfe
GLENDIVE - Claudine Ann Wolfe, age 52, of Glendive, died on Wednesday, Jan. 27, 1999, at her home. Vigil service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 29, 1999, at the Chapel of the Silvernale-Silha Funeral Home in Glendive. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 30, 1999, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Joseph Ponessa officiating. Rite of Committal will be in the Dawson County cemetery. Silvernale-Silha Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements.
Claudine was born on Dec. 7, 1946, in Glendive, the daughter of Michael P. and Kathryn Ann (Marman) Geiger. She was raised and educated in Glendive, graduating from Dawson County High School in 1965. Claudine married Gurdon White in 1968 in Glendive. She later married Charles Wolfe in 1983 in Casper, Wyo., and they were later divorced. Claudine attended Dawson Community College and graduated with an Associate of Arts Degree in 1991. Claudine had worked at the Community First Bank in Glendive from 1991 until 1996 when she became ill with cancer.

Claudine's life revolved around her family. She was an avid reader and enjoyed cooking and baking.

Survivors include her four sons, Michael White and his wife, Cora, Brent White, Kent White and Chris Wolfe, all of Glendive; one sister, Mary Etta Leist of Fresno, Calif.; three brothers, Dennis Geiger of Barstow, Calif., Patrick Geiger and Steven "Sam" Geiger, both of Glendive.

Jerome 'Jerry' Sandon
Jerome "Jerry" Sandon, 69 of Billings died Wednesday, Feb. 3, 1999, at Deaconess Billings Clinic of cancer. Cremation has taken place. A gathering of family and friends will be 1 p.m. Saturday at the Holiday Inn's Gallatin Room.
He was born Dee. 19, 1929, in Bozeman to Fred and Louise Lix Sandon. He graduated from high school in Boys Town, Neb., and served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. After his honorable discharge in 1954, he moved to Hardin. Jerry married Hazel Weinberg in 1955; they moved to Billings where he became associated with Western Airlines, retiring after 32 years.

Survivors include his daughter, Susan Sandon (and her life partner, Cyndee Rosera) of Minneapolis, Minn.; his son, Steve (Tracy) Sandon of Billings; three grandchildren; twin brother, James Sandon of Lakewood, Colo.; and former wife and friend, Hazel Sandon of Billings. Arrangements by Cremation or Funeral Gallery.

Stewart W. 'Skeets' Ferguson
Stewart W. "Skeets" Ferguson, 82, of Billings passed away Thursday, Feb. 4, 1999, at Eagle Cliff Manor of natural causes. He was born Sept. 3, 1916, near Regina, Saskatchewan, to George H. and Blanche M. Nuzum Ferguson. Shortly after birth, they moved to Billings where he graduated from Senior High in 1934. He enlisted in the US Navy, serving duty on the USS On Slow during WWII where he received numerous metals including three Bronze Stars. He married Laurene Ewing and they had two children, Terri Sue and Ricky Skeets. On June 25, 1976, he married Betty Anderson in Reno, Nev. He was a salesman for 35 years at Elliott's Furniture. After retirement, he and Betty enjoyed golfing, fishing, and traveling. Skeets always took an active part in family gatherings; his sense of humor will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Skeets was a prominent and avid golfer; he will always be remembered for his perfect golf swing. Among his many accomplishments, he holds the 18-hole course record of 60 at Hilands Country Club. Skeets was also winner of Billings Caddy, State High School, Billings Amateur - 13 times, Midland Empire - 3 times; Lewistown Labor Day - 8 times, Livingston Memorial - 3 nines, and two holes in one. He was a charter member of the Lake Hills Golf Club.

"Skeets, enjoy teeing off in the great golf course in the sky."

Survivors include his wife, Betty; his children, Terri Sue (Phil) Nichols of Everett, Wash., and Rick Ferguson (and companion, Laura Hoss) of Billings; three stepchildren, Bob Anderson, Paula (Doug) Rausch, and Terry (Anne) Anderson; four grandchildren, Mandy and Stewart Wagner, and Chris and Cassie Ferguson of Denver; two great-grandchildren of Everett; six step-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ethel Zimmerman of Seattle and Marge (Walter) Hartung; one brother, Don (Marjorie) Ferguson; and sister-in-law, Marcie Ferguson, all of Billings. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, George.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 8, at the Pilgrim Congregational Church. Interment with Military Rites will follow at Mountview cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer Association, American Heart Association, or the Yellowstone County Junior Golf. Arrangements were made by Cremation or Funeral Gallery.

Tillie Ray
MILES CITY - Tillie Ray, 88, of Miles City, formerly of Las Vegas, Nev., passed away Wednesday, Feb. 3, 1999, in the Miles City Holy Rosary Extended Care Unit.
She was born July 8, 1910, in Dickinson, N.D., a daughter of Nicholas and Eva Schmitt Messer. She grew up and attended the St. Joseph School in Dickinson.

Tillie married Chester H. Ray and the couple lived in Las Vegas, where Tillie worked as a linotype operator. Mr. Ray died in 1984. She moved to Miles City in 1992.

Survivors include one sister, Louise Hughes of California; a nephew, Charles Krug of Dickinson; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held Friday, Feb. 5, 1999, at 2:30 p.m. in the Holy Rosary Extended Care Unit. Interment will follow in Las Vegas. Bullis-Graves Memorial Chapel of Miles City has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Brent Allan Bloom
Brent Allan Bloom, our beloved son and brother, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Feb. 4, 1999, at the age of 22 after a three-year struggle with cancer. He fought a tough battle and was deeply admired for his strength and courage.
Brent was born on Nov. 23, 1976, to Bob and Ione Bloom in Conrad. He joined a brother B.J. at home and was later joined by brother Ben. He was the most giving and caring person and also touched the hearts of many. He attended Central Heights Elementary, Will James Junior High and graduated from West High in 1995. Brent had a true love for music. He was a member of the Westwinds and choir president his senior year. He also sang for two summers with the Canticle Choir. He attended the University of Wyoming in Laramie and was a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity. In Brent's short time on earth he knew the meaning of work, he was employed by Marriott Food Services at MSUB, Universal Athletics and Prince Party Productions.

Brent is survived by his mother and father; his brothers, Ben, B.J. and his wife, Julie; and the highlight of his life, his niece and god-daughter, little Brittany; also his dog, Barkley, his faithful German shepherd; his grandparents, Carl and Georgie Fuchs of Lake Park, Minn., Joanne Bloom of Detroit Lakes, Minn.; and his adopted Billings grandparents, Chuck and Joyce Peterson. Brent is also survived by 19 aunts and uncles and 14 cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandfather, William Bloom.

"Brent we've watched you suffer with so much pain, we felt so helpless. You spent your entire life giving so much to everyone around you yet in a time when we wanted to help you we couldn't. May you find peace with God but always remember we love you with all our hearts and will miss you so terribly much."

A prayer service will be held 7 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 7, at Peace Lutheran Church. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 8, at Peace Lutheran Church with interment in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be directed to Peace Lutheran Church, 1301 Ave. D, Billings, MT 59102 or the charity of one's choice. These memorials will be divided up between the church and a music scholarship fund to be established at West High School in Brent's name. Michelotti, Sawyers & Nordquist has charge of arrangements.

Homer Charles Nefzger
GLENDIVE - Homer Charles Nefzger, age 87, of Glendive, died on Wednesday, Feb. 3, 1999, at the Glendive Medical Center in Glendive. Memorial services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 8, 1999, at the Eastern Montana Veteran's Home in Glendive with Pastor Allen Solheim officiating. Interment will be in the Arlington National cemetery in Washington, D.C. Silvernale-Silha Funeral Home of Glendive is entrusted with arrangements.
Homer was born on Sept. 10, 1911, at Vida, the son of Charles Henry and Katie Katherine (McFarlane) Nefzger. He entered the U.S. Navy in February of 1932 and served during World War II and the Korean Conflict. While serving in the Navy, he witnessed the attack on Pearl Harbor and was on the Battleship U.S.S. Missouri when the treaty with Japan was signed. Homer married Anna Sofia Shields on July 27, 1946, in Honolulu, Hawaii. They were stationed at Tokyo, Japan and Whidbey Island Naval Air Station in Washington. Upon his discharge from the Navy, they moved to Fort Wayne, Ind., where he attended Indiana Technical College and graduated in May of 1956. Homer had been named "Outstanding Electronic Engineering Student of the Year" for 1955-1956. In 1957, Anna and Homer moved to San Diego where Homer worked with Ryan Aeronautical until retiring on Sept. 30, 1976. They moved to Glendive in September of 1997. Anna preceded Homer in death in May of 1998.

Homer's hobbies included camping, fishing, collecting Southwest Indian artifacts and electronics.

Surviving are numerous nieces and nephews, including Dea (Nefzger) Hostetler and her husband, Craig of Glendive; two brothers, Deane Nefzger and his wife, Anna, and Bob Nefzger, all of Vida; four sisters, Geneva Miller and her husband, Ray of Glendive, Beulah Brown and her husband, Clarence of Casper, Wyo., Zella Sharp and her husband, Harvey of Hamilton, and Fern Garding of North Bend, Wash.

Peter Nicholas Klessens
JOLIET - Peter Nicholas Klessens, 81, Joliet, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Feb. 3, 1999, while residing at the Evergreen Laurel Health and Rehabilitation Center in Laurel.
Pete was born July 18, 1917, in Red Lodge, the son of Cornelius and Maria Klessens. He attended school in Red Lodge. On May 4, 1941, he married Irma Elaine Stevens. During their marriage Pete drove school bus for 20 years, and owned a dairy. He raised sheep, registered black Angus cattle, and quarter horses. Pete was a mechanic at his own repair shop in Red Lodge for many years. Pete and Irma moved to Escalon, Calif., in 1968 where Pete was a bus mechanic for the Escalon Unified School District. In 1985 they retired, and resided in Joliet until Irma's death on March 10, 1990. On Nov. 17, 1990, Pete married Florence Kujala. They resided in Joliet until Pete entered Evergreen Laurel Health and Rehabilitation Center, Dec. 1, 1995.

Pete was an active member of the Elk's, St. Agnes Church, Red Lodge, St. John's Church, Joliet Moose Lodge, and he was the president of the Evergreen Laurel Health and Rehabilitation Center Resident Council.

Pete loved bus driving, horses, ranching, auction sales, and singing. He had a true green thumb, and raised prize winning gardens. He also liked to cook, and soups were his specialty. Pete enjoyed time with his family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who will always remember him giving them chewing gum. Pete had a smile for everyone, and a joke to pull on them. We will miss that Dad and Grandpa!

Survivors include his wife, Florence; son, Gary (Rita) Klessens of Nanton, Alberta, Canada; two daughters, Mary Ann (George) Mathes of Roberts, and Trisha (Allen) Elk of Joliet; four brothers, Ed Klessens, Jim Klessens, Frank Klessens of Luther, and Jake Klessens of Escalon; two sisters, Polly Long of Billings, and Frances Loughney of Red Lodge; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two stepsons; countless nieces and nephews; four stepdaughters; and numerous step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Memorial Mass will be Saturday, Feb. 6, 1999, 10 a.m., at St. Agnes Church, 1 North Word, Red Lodge. Interment of cremains following Memorial Mass at Red Lodge cemetery. Memorials may be made to the charity of your choice. Continue the kindness of Pete, smile, wave, and tell a joke.

Louis Herman Leibinger
Louis Herman "Herm" Leibinger, 92 of Billings, died Wednesday, Feb. 3, 1999, at Western Manor Nursing Home.
The son of George Herman Leibinger and Mary Elizabeth Roy, he was born May 21, 1906, in Pembina, N.D.

He excelled in track and field, football, basketball and hockey in high school and college. He enjoyed bird and big game hunting and was an avid bowler and golfer.

Herm moved to Miles City in 1927 and was employed by the Northern Pacific (Burlington Northern) Railroad Land Department. He retired as supervisor of the department in 1965. In 1928 he married Thelma Rice. He served as member of the Custer County High School board for 14 years, and was chairman of the board for the last eight years. After retiring, he started his own business as a land and ranch appraiser in Miles City. He moved to Billings in 1974 and continued appraising until 1996.

Herm was a past exalted ruler of the Miles City Elks Lodge, No. 337 and a member of Billings Lodge, No. 394. In Billings he bowled in several leagues and didn't stop golfing until last summer. He had 100-200 tournament wins and was inducted into the Billings Hall of Fame in 1980. He is survived by his wife, Mary; his son, Gilbert of Sheridan, Wyo.; and his daughter, Shirley Lahr of Denver, Colo. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Steve Leibinger, Douglas Leibinger, Kate Leibinger, Cheryl Lahr, and Risa Muchendorfer; great-granddaughter, Rachel Muchendorfer; and two step-grandchildren, Lee Collins and Dawn Bell.

Cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Michelotti, Sawyers & Nordquist Mortuary.

Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Miriam E. Mace
CLINTON - Miriam E. Mace, 69, passed away in the comfort of her home surrounded by the love of her family on Feb. 2, 1999. She joins her Heavenly Father and her husband, Gene, after she endured three-and-a-half years with cancer.
Miriam Effie Brown was born on Dec. 28, 1929, at Covington, Ohio, to Edwin Elmer Brown and Hazel Hattie Tobias Brown. She attended schools in Napanee, Ind., and graduated from high school in Van Wert, Ohio, in 1948.

Miriam followed her sister, Doris Greene, and husband, John, to Missoula. It was here she met and married Gene Mace on Feb. 4, 1949. Together they pursued numerous ventures, including building log homes throughout the Missoula area, owned and operated restaurants in Missoula and Seeley Lake, and gold mined in the Garnet area.

An active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she was sealed to her husband and children for time and all eternity on Sept. 15, 1962.

Surviving Miriam are her six children, Denise and Les Gemar of Carter, Laura Mendenhall of Laurel, Mark and Ronda Mace of Laurel, Kirk and Kim Mace of Missoula, Gina Mace of Brookings, Ore., Lisa and Rick Agard of Clinton; 14 grandchildren and one great-grandchild; three sisters, Josephine Tarman of New Paris, Ind., Wanda Becknell of Charleston, S.C., Jan Braden of Elkhart, Ind.; one brother, Jim Brown of Virginia Beach, Va.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death are her parents; her husband, Gene in 1998; two sisters, Doris Greene and Rosemary Dillworth; two brothers, John Brown and Doug Brown; infant twin brother and sister, Keith and Katherine Brown; and two grandchildren, Chelsea Mace and Landon Gemar.

Her beautiful spirit and radiant smile will be missed by all. "She is not gone. She has arrived."

Services will be held on Saturday, Feb. 6, 1999, at Garden City Funeral Home at 11 a.m. Visitation will be held Friday, Feb. 5, 1999, 4-8 p.m. Interment will be at Missoula City cemetery following the services. Memorials can be sent to Hospice/Partners in Home Care, 500 N. Higgins, Suite 100, Missoula, MT 59802.

Marguerite Wilson
Marguerite (Bodak) Wilson, 94, passed away Feb. 3, 1999, in Billings, at St. John's Lutheran Home where she had been a resident for five years.
Marguerite was born in Helena in May of 1904 to John and Barbola Bodak. In early childhood she moved with her parents to a homestead between Drummond and Helemville. Life on the homestead was very hard and she became one of nine brothers and sisters. She went to grade school in Drummond and high school in Missoula. She married Jesse Wilson in Missoula and they moved to Helemville where they were employed by H.F. Kelly on what was then referred to as the "Home Ranch." In 1934 they moved to Drummond and in 1936 to Philipsburg where Marguerite was employed by Pete Winninghoff at the "Sweet Palace" as a candy dipper. Later she was employed by Doe's Drug Store for many years. Mr. Wilson was employed there in mining.

In 1952 they moved to Anaconda and Marguerite was employed at Marie's Dress Shop until they moved to Missoula when Jesse retired in 1963. In 1976 they moved to Billings to be closer to relatives. Jesse passed away in 1979. Her hobbies were her yard, a great cook, and her pets, cricket and Susie.

She is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, May and Ed Hahm, Virginia and Joe Evangeline; four grandchildren, Michael and Debbie Hahm, Mark and Jan Hahm, Don and Mary Ellen James, and Lynnette and Gary Clark; seven great-grandchildren; two sisters, Rosella Bauer of Philipsburg and Irene Krongstvedt of Colorado. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse; parents; sisters, Grace Foster, Irene Mercer, Helen Bailey; brothers, Steve, James, John and Walter.

Marguerite was a member of St. Patrick's Cathedral in Billings.

Parish Vigil Services will be Sunday at 7 p.m. at the Jewell Funeral Home in Deer Lodge. Graveside Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at the Hillcrest cemetery in Deer Lodge. Jewell Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Jerome A. 'Buster' Four Star
WOLF POINT - Jerome A. "Buster" Four Star, 80, died Jan. 27, 1999, at Faith Home in Wolf Point of natural causes.
He was born Feb. 5, 1918, in Frazer, to Arthur and Florence (Blue Mane) Four Star. Buster was raised by his grandparents, Eagle Feather and The Girl Eagle Feather, in Frazer where he also attended school.

He enlisted in the National Guard in October 1935 and was honorably discharged in October 1938.

In February 1939, he married Mabel Redstone in Glasgow. Mabel passed away in June 1987.

Buster worked in the shipyards in Washington during World War II, then returned to Montana and lived at his home west of Oswego. He taught the Assiniboine language at the Wolf Point and Frazer High Schools, Northern Montana College in Havre, the Fort Peck Community College in Poplar and the Salish Kootenai College in Pablo. As a spiritual leader and advisor for the Native American Elders and Youth Circle, he traveled all over the United States and Canada.

Buster was the chief singer with the Red Bottom Singers, composed many songs, and helped compose the Flag Song, which is still used today by the Red Bottom Singers. He notoriously had the copyright and was the author of the first Assiniboine dictionary. He especially enjoyed telling stories and legends to his many grandchildren.

Survivors include three sons: Carl (Darlene) Four Star of Wolf Point, Adrian (Odessa) Four Star of Poplar, and Gary (Joy) Four Star of Camp Verde, Ariz.; two adopted sons: Joe Iron Man of Lodge Pole, and John Iron Man of Poplar; four daughters: Mrs. Herman Pipe Sr. (Patricia) of Poplar, Mrs. Edison Tapaha (Josephine) and Mrs. Virgil A. McConnell Sr. (Madonna), both of Wolf Point, and Mrs. Warren R. Buck Elk Sr. (Geraldine) of Rapid City, S.D.; one adopted daughter: Rita Talks Different of Frazer; an adopted brother, John Morsette of Poplar; and special friend, Kate Walker of Fort Collins, Colo.; 38 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, one daughter, two brothers and two sisters.

Visitations will be held on Friday, Jan. 29, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the Clayton Memorial Chapel in Wolf Point and at the wake which will be held that afternoon and evening at the Frazer Community Hall. A vigil service will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday evening at the wake. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 30, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Wolf Point with Rev. Fr. Steve Zabrocki officiating. Interment will be held in the Oswego Catholic cemetery. A 4-Day Feast following the funeral service and burial will be held at the Frazer Community Hall. Clayton Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Sarah Pauline (Actor) Makoff
THREE FORKS - Sarah Pauline (Actor) Makoff, age 89, passed away at Deaconess Hospital, Tuesday evening, Jan. 26, 1999. Pauline was a longtime resident of Three Forks.
She was born at Walla Walla, Wash., on Jan. 7, 1910, to the late Arthur and Frankie (Struthers) Actor. She moved with her family to the Helena valley in 1915 and attended schools in Helena.

She married Willard McCormick and they were later divorced. From that union seven children were born. She spent 20 years rearing her family in Culbertson. She and Max Makoff were married in 1946. This union combined their two families totaling 13 children. In 1948 they moved to Three Forks, where they purchased the Sacajawea Inn which they operated for nearly 25 years. Max passed away in 1963.

Pauline was active in the Three Forks Senior Center. She enjoyed bridge, growing flowers, travel and in later years TV sports. She had resided at Mountain View Care Center since May 1997. She especially enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and related well to the younger generation. She had a special gift for knowing when people needed help and offered assistance. We will all miss her very much.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Max Makoff; her daughter, Peggy Haigh; her brother, William Actor; and a grandson, Steve Haigh.

Survived by sons and daughters-in-law: Robert McCormick of South Carolina; James and Jean McCormick of Sun City, Ariz.; George and Rosalie McCormick of Santa Rosa, Calif.; William and Phyllis McCormick of Cody, Wyo.; Roger and Sylvia McCormick of Bozeman; Ralph and Linda McCormick of Bozeman; Linda and Ray Noble (granddaughter and husband) of Three Forks; Edward and Donna Makoff of Bozeman; Don and Carol Makoff of Laurel; Mickey and Genevieve Makoff of Los Angeles; Victor Makoff of Los Angeles; daughters and sons-in-law: Maxine and Ted Levy of Marietta, Ga.; Josephine and Ray Brashears of Indianapolis, Ind.; daughter-in-law, Betty Jane Anthony of Glasgow. She leaves 22 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Graveside services will be held on Saturday, Jan. 30, 1999, in the Fairview cemetery of Three Forks at 1 p.m. with Robert Lane officiating. Memorials are suggested to the Three Forks Library or the Three Forks Senior Citizens. A time of fellowship will be held in the Three Forks Methodist Annex after the interment.
