Eleanor R. Worthington
ROUNDUP - Eleanor R. Worthington, 90, of Roundup, died Wednesday, Jan. 27, 1999, at Aspen Meadows Retirement Community in Billings of natural causes.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 30, at Wier Funeral Chapel with interment in the Musselshell cemetery.

Tillie Julia Leavitt
Tillie Julia Leavitt, 77, of Billings, died on Jan. 26, 1999, while a resident of St. John's Lutheran Home.
On Feb. 25, 1921, she was born the daughter of Reinholdt and Molly (Busch) Kell. Tillie was born and raised in Denver, graduating from high school there. She married Alfred Richard Leavitt on Aug. 23, 1941.

Tillie was a homemaker, candy striper and the neighborhood caretaker. Her hobbies included listening to music, dancing, crocheting, creating stained glass and most of all spending time with her grandchildren. Tillie was dedicated to the care of her family and friends, putting their needs above hers.

Thank you for your absolute love and devotion throughout our lives. We find peace in your passing knowing that you are finally free. We know you are with us guiding us gently as you always have. God bless you, grandma. We love you.

Survivors include a son, Bruce Leavitt, granddaughter, Elizabeth Ann and her husband, Shawn Welch; grandsons, Justin and Ivan; sister, Juanita Pross; brothers, Richard and Jack Kell.

Tillie was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband of 38 years, Alfred; and her sister, Selma.

A graveside memorial service will be in Fort Logan National cemetery in Denver on Friday, Feb. 5, 1999, at 11 a.m. Memorials may be made to St. John's Alzheimer's Unit, 3940 Rimrock Road, Billings, MT 59102. Dahl Funeral Chapels in Billings is in charge of arrangements.

Alexander Byron Rohrer
Alex passed away peacefully in his father's arms surrounded by his family on Jan. 25, 1999, at Children's Hospital in Denver after a sudden illness.
Born Oct. 5, 1996, Alex loved life and his family. Alex will always be remembered by his hearty laugh and the way he would say "oh Mommy!".

He will be greatly missed by his family: mother, Dyann, father, Mike, sisters, Jessica and Lauren, and brother, Jens, all of Billings. Other family members include grandparents, Darlene and Byron Lee of Billings; grandparents, Carol and Doug Rohrer of Fort Shaw; and many loving aunts, uncles, and cousins. Oh Alex, We love you!

Alex's life will be celebrated Jan. 30, 1999, at 2 p.m., Faith Evangelical Church. Memorials may be made to Faith Evangelical AWANA program or St. Vincent's Life Flight. Smith West Chapel in charge of arrangements.

Molly Dewald
HARDIN - Molly S. Dewald, 98, longtime Hardin resident, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 26, 1999, in the Big Horn County Memorial Nursing Home.
She was born Oct. 7, 1900, in Hussenbach, Russia, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Suppee. She grew up and attended schools in Hussenbach.

Molly married Jacob Dewald on Nov. 21, 1921, in Hussenbach and the following year, Nov. 21, 1922, they moved to Germany where they lived for four years. In 1926, they came to the United Stated and moved to a farm north of Hardin, where they farmed until 1965. Upon retiring, they moved to their new home in Hardin. Molly became a U.S. citizen in 1937.

She was a member of the Congregational Church, United Church of Christ in Hardin.

Molly was preceded in death by her husband, Jacob; son, Jack Dewald Jr.; daughter, Dorothy Hiller; and granddaughter, Rebecca (Nedens) Hermsmeyer.

Survivors include two daughters, Katherine (Harry) Nedens of Livingston and Amilia Dewald of Billings; four grandchildren, Harry J. (Hedy) Nedens of Livingston, Robert W. (Karen) Nedens of Billings, Valetta Fallenbaum of Virginia and Cheryl (Jack) Albin of the Marshall Islands; nine great-grandchildren, Donald (Heather) Landis of Washington, Jeffery Nedens and Jestin (Stephanie) Nedens of Billings, Jenifer (Tad) Chenowith of South Dakota, Trent Nedens of Wisconsin, Tara Nedens of Oregon, Holly (Asa) Dennison of Livingston, Kyle Fallenbaum of Virginia and Eric Albin of Hawaii; four great-grandchildren, Zachary and Austin Landis of Washington, Trevon and Trey Chenowith of South Dakota.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday in the Bullis Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow in the Fairview cemetery. Bullis Mortuary of Hardin has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to the Big Horn County Memorial Nursing Home, Hardin, MT 59034.

Gayle F. Boyer
Gayle F. Boyer, of Billings, passed away on Jan. 27, 1999. She was born a twin, the daughter of John W. and Luella Smith Selvidge on March 19, 1914, in Forsyth. She graduated from Billings Senior High School in 1932. On Jan. 1, 1940, she married Rod Boyer, also of Billings.
In October of 1954, Gayle and her husband Rod moved to Bozeman where he managed the Hines Motor Supply store. She served as a volunteer at the hospital and nursing homes in Bozeman and was an active member of the Bozeman chapter of the Eastern Star. Her life in Bozeman centered around her family and hobbies included a passion for golf and gardening. After several years in Bozeman they moved to Great Falls where they purchased Polly's Dress Shoppe from her sister, Polly Alquist. The Boyers sold the store in 1978 and retired. In 1989 Gayle and Rod returned to Billings and have lived here since.

Gayle suffered Alzheimer's disease for the past several years and was living in the Western Manor Nursing Home since August of 1997. She was a loving wife and mother and even in her illness she captured the hearts of all she met with her loving smile and love for life.

Gayle is survived by her husband, Rod; three children, Bonnie Beckstrom of Great Falls, Linda Schneider of Billings, and Rod Jr. of Helena.; six grandchildren, Lance and Ross Beckstrom of Portland, Ore., Ehren Schneider of New York, Danielle Schneider of Billings, David Boyer of Delano, Minn., and Suzanne Poppe of Salem, Ore.

She was preceded in death by her parents and seven brothers and sisters: Mazie Cocagne, Polly Alquist, John Selvidge, Mike Selvidge, Robert Selvidge, her twin brother, Dayle Selvidge, and Jeanne Gendreau.

While with us, Gayle brought us much joy and happiness, loving arms to cradle us in our times of need and an ability to see the bright side of any situation. Her love and guidance will be missed by all.

Cremation has taken place. Private interment will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Mildred Louise Carlson
Mildred Louise Carlson, of West Park Village, died Wednesday at St. Vincent Hospital.
She had been a resident of Billings since 1948, when her husband became manager of the downtown J.C. Penney store.

Mrs. Carlson was born Oct. 9, 1901, in Coffeyville, Kan., to Henry Christian and Ava Elva Moore Achgill. Her father was an Oklahoma Sooner who homesteaded in Indian Territory near Vinita. Her sister, Mrs. Carl (Anna) Demo of El Dorado, Kan., was born at Vinita in 1903.

Mildred attended Vinita Business College. She was employed by a judge and an oil company in Tulsa and a hardware store in El Dorado before moving to Denver where her mother operated a rooming house. There she was employed by the Colorado Southern Railroad and met Donald Titus Carlson when he became a boarder. They were married April 29, 1925, in Denver. He died in 1986.

They lived at Malad, Idaho, where Don started his J.C. Penney career. They later lived in Boise, Idaho; Spokane and Pullman, Wash.; Corvallis and Portland, Ore.; and Salt Lake City before coming to Billings. He was a district manager in Portland and Salt Lake City and Billings store manager 12 years before retiring in 1960.

Mrs. Carlson was active in PEO Chapter A V, First Congregational Church, Daughters of the Nile, Daughters of the American Revolution, American Cancer Society, and charter member of the Yellowstone Country Club.

Surviving are her daughter, Donna Louise Beasley, and son-in-law, Bill Beasley, Bozeman; grandson, Kelley Don Beasley and wife, Barbara and granddaughter, Kristin Meester, Lincoln, Neb.; grandson, Robert Beasley, Belgrade; sister, Anna Demo, El Dorado; and several nephews and nieces.

A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at West Park Village, 2351 Solomon Ave. Family interment at Sunset Memorial Gardens will be Friday afternoon. Memorials in lieu of flowers should be to First Congregational Church or charity of choice.

Vernon A. Nordberg
Vernon A. Nordberg, 87, of Billings, died Jan. 27, 1999, at the Valley Health Care Center. On Feb. 23, 1911, he was born the son of Paul J. and Minnie C. (Peterson) Nordberg at Newburg, N.D. He graduated from Newburg High School in 1930 and attended Minot State Teachers College.
He was employed by Allis Chalmers for a short time, served in the Navy during World War II. Then he was employed by John Deere Co. for 25 years. He had lived in Mobridge and Aberdeen, S.D. He then moved to Billings in 1951 where he was the manager of Yellowstone County Implement Co. until he retired in 1971.

Vernon was a member of the Masons, Elks, American Legion and Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd.

He married Geneva Cunningham Nordberg, May 25, 1942. She preceded him in death, April 7, 1996. He was also preceded in death by his parents and brother, Ralph, who died during a North Dakota snowstorm on March 15, 1941; also a brother, Wallace and a sister, Pauline.

Survivors include a sister, Doris Schreiner of Colorado Springs, Colo.; a brother, Chester and wife, Anne of Bismarck, N.D.; sisters-in-law: Elizabeth Frankhanel of Bemidji, Minn., and Mollie Nordberg of Cody, Wyo.; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 1, 1999, at the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, 24th St. West and Lewis. Cremation has taken place at Smith's Crematory. Interment of cremains will take place at 9 a.m. prior to the memorial service at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd or to the charity of one's choice.

Eleanor Ruth Worthington
ROUNDUP - Eleanor Ruth Worthington, 90, of Roundup, died on Jan. 27, 1999. She was born Feb. 8, 1908, the daughter of Myrtle and David Holmberg. She married Raymond (Cotton) Worthington on Nov. 21, 1927. When her husband died she put herself through beauty school. She remained a beautician until she turned 80.
Her life revolved around her family, her yard, and her many friends. She was a member of the Degree of Honor and the Rebekahs.

She was survived by her six children, Darlene Oblander, Edna Trafton and her husband, Ralph, Charlotte Ray and her husband, James, Ruth Jellison, Anne Teig and her husband, Ronald, and a son, Bob Worthington and his wife, Judy; also 18 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at the Wier Funeral Home in Roundup on Saturday, Jan. 30, 1999, at 10 a.m. Interment will be at the Musselshell cemetery following services. Memorials may be sent to the Roundup Memorial Hospital. Wier Funeral is in charge of arrangements.

Gordon W. Miller
Gordon W. Miller passed away Tuesday morning, Jan. 26, 1999, at the age of 85. He had resided at St. John's Lutheran Home for 17 years.
Gordon was born in Bellingham, Wash., the son of Herbert S. and Eva (Otley) Miller. Following his high school graduation, he attended Western Washington State College and the University of Washington. He was married to Helen D. Peterson in Seattle in 1943. During WWII, Mr. Miller was a combat engineer with a unit attached to the 30th Division in the European theatre.

Following his discharge from the service, the Millers moved to Billings. Mr. Miller was employed in the furniture and hardware sales businesses for many years. In the '60s and '70s Mr. Miller owned and operated an Amoco service station at 6th and Division Street in Billings until his retirement. Mr. Miller was a longtime member of the Elks club, where he was a past exalted Ruler of Elks Lodge No. 394.

He is survived by his son, Michael G. and wife, Emelin of Longmont, Colo., and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen, in 1994.

Cremation has taken place and no services are scheduled at this time. Smith Downtown Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

James H. Prince
James H. Prince, 65, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, went to be with God and his parents on Jan 28, 1999, following a short illness.
James was born Nov. 11, 1933, to James and Emma Prince in Seattle. He spent his youth in Anaconda until his family moved to Billings in 1949. He graduated from Billings Senior in 1952.

James made friends wherever he went and he will be sorely missed. James loved to rodeo, watching sports on TV and spending time with his grandchildren and of course his dog, Sassy.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Emma Prince, and a grandson, Darryl Johnson Jr.

James is survived by his wife of 19 years, Stephanie; son, Linwood Prince of Hot Springs, S.D.; daughters, Melvina McCluskey, Emma (D'Artagnan) Johnson, both of Billings, and Dianne Spotted Elk of Lame Deer; 18 grandchildren, one great-grandchild; adopted brother, Pye Glen; Uncle Herbert Evans of Seattle; three aunts, Lena Maker of Anaconda, Louise Robinson of Los Angeles and Anna Carter of Seattle; stepchildren, Ella Jean Crane, Eloise Leahy, Carson Bellrock, and Janice Bellrock.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 2, and at the Smith Downtown Chapel. Interment will be at Terrace Gardens cemetery.

Josephine Peters
Josephine Peters, 71, of Billings, was born Jan. 28, 1928, in Jefferson County, Neb., a daughter of John and Esther Plies. She passed away on her birthday, Jan. 28, 1999, in Billings. She was raised in Nebraska and lived her adult life in Montana.
She married Bill Smith in Fairbury, Neb., and had seven children. She divorced Bill Smith and married Ray Peters and he preceded her in death. She worked in grocery retail all her life and retired in 1979 from Buttrey's after a stroke.

Her hobbies included cooking, baking, gardening, canning and sewing.

She is survived by children: Billie Pederson (Joe), Randy Smith, Terri Teel (Gene), Mike Smith (Sherry), Tony Smith (Candy) and Becky Harrison (Kenny); three sisters: Betty Garcia, Marilyn Crews and Sharon Griswold; stepchildren: Gary (Jane) Peters, Gordon (Kathy) Peters; also 17 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her three brothers: John Jr., Robert and Larry; a granddaughter, Tamara Smith Lambert; a son, David Smith; and her husband, Ray Peters.

A graveside service will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 30, 1999, at Terrace Gardens cemetery, 304 34th St. W.

Edna Wash
EKALAKA - Edna Wash, 83, died Wednesday, Jan. 27, 1999, at the Dahl Memorial Nursing Home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 1, at the Stevenson Funeral Home with interment in the I.O.O.F. cemetery.

Vera 'Jean' Hoover
Jean Hoover, age 67, died Thursday, Jan. 28, 1999, at her home after a short battle with cancer.
Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Hoover.

Survivors include her children, Sharon Tate, Carolyn Mohler, Pat Williams, Mary Murphrey, Ed Iverson, Jim Hoover, Richard Iverson, Barbara Rains, Pam Schreier, 24 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren and their spouses.

We love and miss you. Memorial services will be held at First Christian Church at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 2, followed by interment at Mountview cemetery. Cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, please send memorials to Big Sky Hospice.
