Donald Elwood Wollesen
EKALAKA - Donald Elwood Wollesen, age 86 of Ekalaka, passed away Wednesday, March 3, 1999, at the Dahl Memorial Nursing Home in Ekalaka.
He was born Jan. 16, 1913, at Kiron, Iowa, in Crawford County, the son of Paul and Ella Goos Wollesen. His dad was in the butchering business in Iowa. The family moved to a farm southeast of Chadron, Neb., where Don attended a country school through the eighth grade. His mother died when he was 12. After his dad remarried and moved, he and three older brothers were left on the farm. In the fall of 1933, Don enlisted in the CCC for six months where he built roads in Oregon. When his oldest brother married , he went out to work on farms. On March 17, 1937, he was married to Helen Scherbarth at Hay Springs, Neb. They worked on various farms or rented until moving to a ranch near Mill Iron in the spring of 1949 where they resided until Don moved into the nursing home in Ekalaka in 1994.

Don enjoyed working with the neighbors, trucking, well pulling, threshing, raising corn, visiting and community projects. Don and Helen did some traveling after renting out the ranch to Whitey Jardee. Don was a member of the Lutheran Church, a 4-H Leader, Director of Farmers Union and was a very active member of the Mill Iron Community Club. His hobbies included: playing cards, fishing, pool, cribbage, dominoes and horseshoes.

Survivors include: his wife, Helen of Ekalaka; three daughters; Linda Gasser of Belfry, Brenda Czoer of Broadus and Donella Wollesen of Ekalaka; a sister, Pauline McNeff of Portland, Ore.; 13 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Karen Losing in 1988, and three brothers: Leland, Victor and John.

A Prayer Service will be held on Saturday, March 6, 1999, at Stevenson's Funeral Home in Ekalaka. A Funeral Service will be held on Sunday, March 7, 1999, at 3 p.m. at St. Elizabeth's Lutheran Church in Ekalaka. Burial will follow in the I.O.O.F. cemetery in Ekalaka. Memorials may be made to the charity of your choice. Stevenson Funeral Home of Ekalaka is in charge of the arrangements.

Mary Elizabeth Lakin Pullman Dominick
CODY, Wyo. - Mary Elizabeth Lakin Pullman Dominick, knows to her friends as "Lee, " died in her Cody home shortly after midnight, March 4, 1999. She was born on April 15, 1907, the first child of John Stephenson Pullman and Mary Elizabeth Lakin Pullman of Bridgeport, Conn. Lee graduated from the Emma Willard School for Girls in Troy, N.Y., in 1924 and from Smith College Magna Cum Laude in 1928. She was trained as a radiology technician at the New Haven Hospital in Connecticut when she met her husband-to-be, Dr. DeWitt Dominick, whom she married on July 13, 1935, at the First Methodist Episcopal Church in Bridgeport.
Lee and Dewey came to Cody in 1940 when Dewey joined Chet Ridgway to practice medicine. With the exception of a few years during World War II, Lee has made Cody her home, participating fully in the life of the community as well as being a full-time mother, doctor's wife, and partner in the management of the 7-D Ranch in Sunlight Basin. She was an active member of PEO, the Cody Playreaders, and the United Methodist Church, and worked for many years with the Boy and Girl Scouts of America.

She worked with Dewey on the Navajo Reservation and served as a teacher there in the Head Start Program. After Dewey's death in 1982, she carried meals for Rolling Meals for several years and was a frequent visitor to friends in the Long Term Care Center in Cody until just before her death. She has been a major contributor to the Cody United Methodist Church, the Methodist Episcopal Church of Bridgeport, Emma Willard School, Smith College, and the Buffalo Bill Historical Center.

Lee is predeceased by her husband; her brother, John Pullman; her sister, Alice Longstreth; her brother-in-law, George Longstreth; and her grandson, Nicholas Chivers. She is survived by her sister, Josephine Tucker and her brother-in-law, the Rev. Luther Tucker of Cincinnati, Ohio; her sister-in-law, Sally Pullman of Granby, Conn.; her five children, David Dominick of Cody, Mary Dominick Chivers and John Chivers of Andover, Mass., John and Lynn Dominick of Ketchum, Idaho, Marshall and Bettye Dominick of Cody and Stephen and Cheryl Dominick of Cody; 16 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

A memorial service for Lee Dominick will be held on Tuesday, March 9, at 11:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Cody, 1405 Beck Ave. with a luncheon reception to follow.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the Lee Dominick Outreach Memorial, c/o United Methodist Church, Box 1416, Cody, WY 82414.

George R. Boespflug
WORDEN - George R. Boespflug, age 76, of Worden died Wednesday, March 3, 1999, at Eagle Cliff Manor following a brief illness.
He was born to Margaret Weiler, May 22, 1922, and raised by Katherine and Simon Boespflug in North Dakota.

George served in the army in WWII and Korea. After several career changes he retired from the Northern Hotel in Billings.

He is survived by three children: Teresa, J.R. and Lauralee Boespflug; a sister, Margaret Schmidt of North Dakota; a granddaughter, Melissa Weigel; and many nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held at Pleasantview cemetery in Ballantine, 1 p.m. Monday, March 8, 1999. Friends and family are to meet at the cemetery.

Everett Heidema
Everett Heidema died on Friday, April 23, 1999, at Parkview Care Center.
He was born in Montana on Nov. 7, 1923. In 1952 he married Lucille Ann Uildriks in Holland, Mich. They returned to Billings several years later and this is where Everett ran his own building contracting business until he retired.

Everett is preceded in death by his wife Lucille. Surviving daughters and grandchildren are: Annette Hoffman and her daughter Elizabeth; Linnette DeTienne (Richard) and their children, June, Jan, and Daniel; and Loriann Behm (Richard); and three sisters: Johanna Szillat, Fannie Johnson (Ray), and Mina McMullin (Pat).

Memorial service will be 4 p.m. Thursday, April 29, at the New Apostolic Church, 500 15th St. W., Billings. Memorials to the St. Vincent Hospital Foundation, 1233 N. 30th St. Billings, Montana 5910l.

Peggy Canfield
GLENDIVE - Peggy Canfield, 56, passed away Sunday, April 25, 1999, at the Glendive Medical Extended Care Center, following a courageous battle with cancer.
Funeral Services will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 28, in the United Methodist Church in Richey. The Reverends Carter and Myrna Havner will be officiating. Interment will follow in the Richey cemetery. Silvernale-Silha Funeral Home of Glendive is in charge of arrangements.

Peggy was born on Oct. 4, 1942, in Fairview, the daughter of George Dewey and Betty (Blue) Whiteman. She was raised and educated in Richey. She married Richard Baker on Sept. 6, 1959, in Richey. They lived in Montana where they worked on various farms and ranches. In February 1968, Peggy married Jerry Ganzeveld in Abingdon, Ill. They lived in Richey. She married Bill Canfield in September 1989 in Richey. Peggy enjoyed bird watching, crocheting, fishing and her grandchildren. Peggy was with Richey School district 17 years as head cook. She enjoyed the children and her coworkers.

Survivors include three sons: Ken Ganzeveld and his wife RoseMary of Fairview, Rick S. Baker and his companion Brenda of Lewistown, and Joe Baker of Richey; four daughters: Brenda Mischel and her husband Pat of Glendive, Carla Colter and her husband Don of Billings, Carolyn Hughes and her husband Roy of Glasgow, and Patsy Witt and her husband Sam of Fairview; 17 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; her mother, Betty (Blue) Whiteman of Richey; one brother, Dean Whiteman and his wife Sharol of Richey; and two sisters: Sharon Raab and her husband Tony of Billings, and Janice Louser and her husband Boyd of Glendive.

She was preceded in death by her father, husband Jerry, and two grandchildren. Memorials are suggested to the Richey Historical Society or the United Methodist Church of Richey.

John G. Robertson Sr.
NIBBE TOWNSITE - John died Friday evening, April 23, 1999, at home surrounded by his family.
Survivors include his wife, Mabelanne; four sons: John Jr. (Sherrie), Ken, Brad, Vincent; one daughter, Karilyn Kraft (Dennis); six granddaughters: Angela, Kyla, Jennifer, Kristina, Breeanna, Kirianna; one grandson, Justin; great-granddaughter, Rosie; and one sister, Helen of Nevada.

A Graveside Service will be held at Pleasantview cemetery in Ballantine on Tuesday, April 27, at 2 p.m. Smith Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Dad was a plain ordinary honest man who never had a bad word for anyone. He always preached honesty and hard work to his children. One of his favorite sayings was "an honest dollar is worth ten crooked ones". He was a great father and husband. Everyone who knew him, tremendously loved him. An asset to society but he was needed in heaven. Goodbye dad, papa, pops, pa, grandpa. We love you so much; you will never be forgotten.

Evelyn Janet Braun
With her family at her side, Evelyn went to be with our Lord on Saturday, April 24, 1999, after a courageous battle with cancer,
Born Dec. 10, 1934, in Grants Pass, Ore., Evelyn was the daughter of Nello "Jack" and Esther (Tessman) Petrini. She grew up in Black Eagle and Hamilton. Evelyn graduated from Hamilton High School and went on to graduate from Montana State College in 1956 with a BS in Home Economics.

Evelyn taught in Darby and in Anaconda. It was in Anaconda she met her husband over the phone. On June 6, 1959, Evelyn was married to Frank A. J. Braun in Helena at St. Helena's Cathedral. In 1961, Frank and Evelyn moved to Billings. After staying home to raise her four daughters, Evelyn started working as a Substitute Teacher. In 1990, she began working as an Assistant Dietitian for St. Vincent's Hospital,

Evelyn was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Church, She sang with the funeral choir, taught religious education, and with her husband, was an Eucharistic Minister at St. John's Lutheran Nursing Home. She was a member of the Billings Area Quilting Association, Potters Clay Prayer Group and a 4-H leader for City Kids. Evelyn was a wonderful mother, wife and a helping hand to many others.

Survivors include her husband, Frank, of nearly 40 years; her mother and step-father, Esther and Earl Norton of Helena; daughters: Janet (Steve) Hickman and grandson, Benjamin, of San Diego, Calif., Jacquelyn (Michael) Ayers and granddaughters, Guinevere and Genevieve of Shepherd, Julie Braun (fiance, William Tupper) of Minneapolis, Minn., and Christi Joy Braun of Boston, Mass. Other survivors include her brother, Joe Petrini of Helena; sister, Rose (James) Ballard; aunt, Sadie Francetich all of Great Falls; and numerous other relatives. Evelyn's father preceded her in death in 1956.

A Vigil Service will be 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 27, at St. Thomas Catholic Church with Funeral Mass 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday at St. Thomas. Rite of Committal will be in Holy Cross cemetery. Visitation will be Monday, April 26, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. and Tuesday, April 27, from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. at Dahl Funeral Chapel. Dahl Funeral Chapel has been entrusted with the arrangements. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in her name to St. Vincent's Foundation, Box 2505, Billings 59103 or Big Sky Hospice, 3021 6th Avenue North, Billings 59101 or to BACET (Billings Area Catholic Education Trust) Box 31158, Billings 59107.

William "Bill" Gehrke
William "Bill" Gehrke, 95, known as by everyone as "Grandpa", died at Hillside Manor in Missoula on April 24, 1999, of natural causes.
He was born and raised in Nye and Centuria, Wis. He worked hard at various occupations: farming, trucking, carpentry, and restaurant owner. He moved with his family to Chester in 1949 where he did carpentry work and owned his own restaurant.

Bill moved to Lincoln in 1961 where he worked cutting posts, then at the landfill. He lived there until he moved to Hillside Manor in Missoula. Grandpa loved little children who came to see him all his life. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and the great outdoors, especially around Lincoln.

He is survived by his sons: Bill Gehrke of Seely Lake and John Gehrke of Missoula; daughters: Eldora Pitcher of Ione, Calif., and Betty Hemmer of Billings; sister, Elsie Wehrenberg of Liberty; 21 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; and 21 great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Elsie; son Jerry; brothers: Adolph, Herman, and Emil; sisters: Louise Wedlund and Alma Gursky.

Funeral services will be at Blackfoot Valley Church, Lincoln, 1 p.m. Wednesday, April 28. Interment in Chester cemetery at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 29. Dahl Funeral Chapel of Billings has been entrusted with the arrangements. Memorials may be made to the Chester Volunteer Fire Department.

Maria Badilla
LAUREL - Maria Badilla, 78, of Laurel, passed on Thursday, March 4, 1999, at Billings Deaconess Medical Center.
Maria was born Nov. 24, 1920, the daughter of Radu and Marina (Surdu) Neagu in Poploca, Romania.

By family arrangement, she married Niculoue Badilla (Nick) whom she dearly loved during their 62 years of marriage. They immigrated to America shortly thereafter and homesteaded in Montana.

She reared four children while working side by side with her husband on the farm south of Laurel achieving her "American Dream."

Over the years, she was active in her church and the Laurel Garden Club. She was a charter member of Grace Baptist Church, now called Grace Bible Church.

A Godly woman, she lived her faith and shared it with others. She has imparted that mantle for her family to carry on.

She is survived by her husband, her four children, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, a legacy she was proud of.

We miss our angel but are comforted knowing that she is with the Lord in her real home in heaven.

In loving memory, services will be held at Grace Bible Church, 20 Second Ave. in Laurel at 10 a.m. Monday, March 8, 1999.

Kenneth Olaf Jacobson
Kenneth Olaf Jacobson, 69, of Billings passed away on Wednesday, March 3, 1999, at the Deaconess Hospital.
Ken was born in Valley City, N.D., on Aug. 7, 1929, the son of Olaf and Margaret (Neuens) Jacobson. He received his education in Billings and Portland, Ore., and was inducted into the U.S. Army in 1952. Following his discharge he returned to Billings and was employed with Pierce Packing as a meat cutter until its closing and then for Western Sugar until his retirement in 1995.

While still a teenager Ken willfully assumed the role of "father" in the Jacobson home following the unexpected death of his dad. He cared for his mother and two younger sisters while working to help feed the family. Known as a private person, Ken was always available to help in any way possible those in need of assistance.

Survivors include his sister, Merrilee Vossler and her husband, Jim of Billings, and their daughters, Julia Peterson and husband, Jeff of Billings, and Kimberly Basconcillo and husband, Glenn of Bakersfield, Calif.; and his sister, Ione Slattery and her husband, Joe of Albuquerque, and their children, Kevin, Mike, Patrick, Brian, Karen, Kathy and Lorna. He is also survived by four great-nieces. Ken was preceded in death by his parents and two nephews, Kenneth James Vossler and Timothy Slattery.

At Ken's request, cremation has taken place and no public services are planned. His cremains will be buried with his mother in Mountview cemetery. Smith Downtown Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Reginald D. Orr
Reginald Davis Orr, son of Lester Clay and Gladys Griffith Orr, was born in Kings Mill, Ark., on Nov. 15, 1924. The oldest of four children, he grew up with his siblings Charles, Mary, and Jim in Arkansas and Oklahoma.
During his high school years in Shidler, Okla., he met his life mate, Syble Mae Jennings. They married on Dec. 5, 1943, just before he left to serve in Europe in World War II. He was awarded the Purple Heart, WWII Victory Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, American Theater Ribbon, EAME Theater Ribbon and two Bronze Service Stars.

After the war, he finished college at Oklahoma A & M, graduating in 1948 with a degree in industrial engineering. He immediately went to work for Carter Oil Company and began a lifelong career in the oil patch. At this, by all accounts, he truly excelled. Syble and he moved several times, making lasting friendships around the country. In 1959 they found their way to Montana, which they fell in love with and forever after considered home. Company changes necessitated a temporary move to Wichita, where Reg enjoyed a stint as an executive vice president. In 1986 he semi-retired, moved back to Billings, and founded a successful independent oil and gas investment company.

With their two kids, Joe, born in 1950, and Terri, born in 1953, Reg and Syble enjoyed many years of love, adventure, and good fun. Outdoor activities like camping, fishing, and hunting with family and friends produced priceless memories. Reg and Syble traveled extensively in recent years. Reg was an avid golfer. He also thoroughly enjoyed fleecing the unwary in his favorite card game, gin rummy.

All who knew Reg recognized his exceptional character. His integrity was unquestionable. He had a consistently positive approach to life and a genuine interest in others. He believed that everyone deserved an even break and many times went out of his way to see that young people got one.

Reg died peacefully in his home in Billings on March 3, 1999, surrounded by his family. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Syble Jennings Orr; son, Joe, daughter-in-law, Kim, and grandson, Justin Davis of Kalispell; daughter, Terri, son-in-law, Pat, and grandson, Jess of Alaska; mother, Gladys of Neosho, Mo.; sister, Mary and brother-in-law, Herman McCollough of Arkansas; brother, Jim and sister-in-law, Barbara of Denver; sister-in-law, Mary Lou of Arizona; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Joe and Billie Jennings of Tulsa; and many nieces and nephews. Reg was preceded in death by his father, Clay, and brother, Charles.

A memorial service will be held at Yellowstone Country Club on Tuesday, March 9, at 1 p.m. The family encourages all who would like to share a story to speak at the service.

Memorial contributions may be made to Big Sky Hospice, to whom the family will be forever grateful.
