Despite losing the use of her right arm and hand, Wynn became a very accomplished bowler and typist. Greeting cards were her specialty and many people experienced the joy and delight in receiving them. As an attendee of the West Side Baptist Church, her love of the Lord and reading the Bible were first and foremost in her life. 'Biishe'aakaape'
Buffalo On Crest Of Hill
PRYOR - Thomas James Big Lake, 66, of Pryor, left this world on April 1, 1999, of natural causes while at Deaconess Hospital in Billings.
"Tommy, " as he was known by all, was the third oldest of 13 children born to James and Edith White Clay Big Lake, a child of the Greasy Mouth Clan and a member of the Bad War Deed Clan, in Crow Agency on May 18, 1932.

Growing up in Black Lodge and Crow Agency, he attended school in Crow Agency during his elementary years, and attended Busby High School, now known as Northern Cheyenne, up until his junior year. While in school, he actively participated in sports, notably basketball.

Tommy entered the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict in Oct. 14, 1952, serving his country honorably and receiving his honorable discharge on Oct. 16, 1954, from the Army. Upon his return from the military, he married Clara Smart Enemy on Dec. 2, 1954, in Crow Agency. From this marriage were born three sons, Thomas Jr., Frederick and John, and two daughters, Ezmeralda Fayette and Tammy. Added to this family of seven and growing up in the family home was daughter, Sharon Rides Horse.

Tommy was a member of the Catholic church, which he respected very much. He was an active participant in the Sacred Tobacco Society since he was adopted by Owen and Emma Coffee Smells. As he participated actively with his wife, Clara, the sacred lodge erecting right for the Tobacco Society was acquired for him. Tommy was a firm believer of the Crow and Indian traditions of religion and participated at every opportunity, the Native American Church and Sun Dance to fulfill his commitments.

Biishe'aakaape was a strong advocate of formal education and was instrumental in the formation of Plenty Coups High School. An avid fan of sports, he followed and supported the basketball teams religiously, and even more when his sons played ball. A fruit of this loyalty to Plenty Coups basketball teams was to see his son John be a member of a Class C State Champion team.

Tommy's courageousness and readiness to challenge was evidenced by his participation in rodeos as a saddle bronc rider for several years. In addition, Tommy also owned and trained thoroughbred race horses, making it to the winner's circle many times with horses such as Fleet Cheek, My Buddy Scott, Table Mountain, to name a few.

Even though ailing in health the last few month, Tommy actively supported "Blaine, " a grandson that grew up in his home as a son, in his basketball games all the way to the State Class C Tournament in Great Falls this past March.

Tommy affected the lives of many people, having friends and adopted relatives from many places. For the person he was, he was called brother by people that were non-Crow. In addition, extended family sisters, as his very own are Jennifer Birdinground Flatlip and Lois White Hip. Two he also called brother were Vincent and Kenneth Spint. He had deep respect for their wives, Lauren and Diana.

He had another set of parents, the late Joseph and Gladys Ten Bear. From this relationship he has a brother, Tyrone Ten Bear, and sister, Mary Three Irons.

Tommy was preceded in death by son, Thomas Jr. and daughter, Fayette; his mother and father, James and Edith; and one sister, Marcella.

As family members grow in the Sacred Tobacco Society, persons adopted by his natural parents are Clarence Three Irons, Marlene Falls Down, Daisy Iron and Randy Three Irons.

His own adopted Tobacco Society children are Julie Ann Smells, Robert Snell, Roberta Spotted Horse, Diane Medicine Crow Reynolds and Veronica Big Day.

Surviving Tommy is his wife of 44 years, Clara; sons, Blaine, John and Frederick and daughters, Tammy (Chris) and Sharon; sibling brothers, Arlen Stewart, Morris Big Lake Sr., Delbert (Judith), Archie (Davene) and Vernon, and sisters, Ramona (Ira) Lefthand, Jeanean (Ralph) Turnsplenty, Myra Lefthand, Clarice (Spencer) Denny, Loretta Three Irons, Dorothy Hair, Cudahy, Calif., and Lorraine of Broadus.
