Mabel Ludwig Ronan
LAUREL - Maria Elizabeth (Mabel) Ronan, 88, died at the loving and caring Village Health Care Center in Missoula.
She was born in Lincoln, Neb., on Aug. 14, 1910, to Henry and Elizabeth Schmidt. The family moved in 1913to the Laurel-Billings area, where she attended schools. On March 28, 1926, Mabel married Edward Ludwig of Laurel and they were blessed with three daughters and two sons.

Mabel was widowed in 1956. She remarried in 1960, to Ralph Ronan, also of Laurel. Mabel was again widowed in 1976. She remained in her home until 1988 when she moved to Columbia Falls, and then on to Missoula, where she spent the remainder of her life

Mabel spent many years working as a cook in the Laurel area before she retired. She loved the Lord and was a faithful member of the body of Christ. While in Missoula she attended Trinity Baptist Church and made many loving and caring friends there. She was always hospitable and generous with complete love and devotion to family and friends. She had an infectious smile and cheerful attitude. She was dearly loved and will be sorely missed.

Mabel was preceded in death by her beloved son, Donald, two sisters, one brother and two stepsons.

Survivors include three daughters and their husbands, Alvena Ludwig of Seattle, Elsie and Dean Parker of Huson, and Sandra and Don Yeats of Havre; one son, Edward Ludwig and his wife, Doris of Pasco, Wash.; one stepdaughter, Wilma Marchinek of Florence; 14 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 6, at Smith Funeral Chapel-Laurel. Interment will be in the Laurel cemetery.

Roberta McCabe Dahlstrom
At the age of 84, on April 1, 1999, Roberta Dahlstrom died of natural causes while a resident at St. John's Lutheran Home. Roberta was born on Oct. 1, 1914, the daughter of Robert Andrews and Minnie Belle (Gideon) McCabe in Buffalo. She attended the country school in Buffalo, graduated from Fergus County High School and attended Billings Business College.
Roberta married Carrol A. Dahlstrom on Sept. 5, 1936, in Hobson. Together they raised one son and four daughters.

Roberta's faith was strong and she was a longtime member of the Billings Bible Church. She loved teaching Sunday School and Bible Studies.

Survivors include her son, Robert A. (Cass) Dahlstrom of Seattle; daughters, Linda D. (Richard) Stone of Severna Park, Md., Elaine D. (Richard) Braley of Derry, N.H., Carolyn J. Bickford of Edmonds, Wash., and Lois C. (David) Essells of Billings; as well as eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation hours will be 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday, April 4, 1999, at Dahl Funeral Chapel. Her Funeral service will be 10 a.m. Monday, April 5, 1999, at Dahl Funeral Chapel with interment in the Custer National cemetery at Crow Agency, 2 p.m. Monday. Memorials may be made to: St. John's Lutheran Home Foundation, 3940 Rimrock Road, Billings, 59102 or to Clydehurst Christian Ranch, 802 N. 27th, Billings, 59101.

Eugene M. Kenner
Eugene (Gene) Martin Kenner, 90, of Billings, went home to spend eternity with his Savior on March 31, 1999, at Deaconess Hospital while surrounded by his family.
Gene was born Aug. 21, 1908, in Liberty, Mo. His parents, Eugene and Anna (Schur) Kenner from Germany operated a bakery in Kansas City, Mo., where Gene became an excellent baker.

On June 18, 1934, Gene married Goldie Lasater in Kansas City and they were blessed with 65 years of marriage. During World War II he served in England as an aviation mechanic with the Army Air Corp. After returning from military service, Gene was a master mechanic for the Gas Service Company of Kansas City for over 30 years.

Gene's passions were hunting, fishing, and being outside during the hot days of summer. His favorite outdoor activity was fishing and he fulfilled a lifetime dream by living on the Lake of the Ozarks for 17 years. He also cherished his various church activities.

Gene and Goldie moved to Billings in 1989 to be close to their daughter and grandchildren, and enjoyed many happy events with them.

Gene is survived by his wife, Goldie, his daughter, Jane (Dennis) Garnett, and three grandchildren of Billings.

A memorial service will be held at Rimrock Baptist Church at 11 a.m. on April 5, 1999.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Campus Crusade for Christ, ASUM, Suite 105, University Center, Missoula, MT 59812; or Rimrock Baptist Church of Billings.

Eula G. Lutgen
RAPELJE - Eula G. Lutgen, 80, of Rapelje, passed away peacefully in her sleep Thursday morning, April 1, 1999, at Stillwater Community Hospital, Columbus, surrounded by her family.
She was born Sept. 1, 1918, at Broadview, a daughter Walter and Marcia Baumgarner Farnes. She lived in Broadview for six years and then the family moved to a farm northeast of Broadview. She attended a rural grade school over a mile from their home.

She met her future husband, Ernest Lutgen, at a housewarming party and dance at Comanche and they were married May 23, 1936, at the Sacred Heart Church in Wheat Basin. When Mr. Lutgen passed away Jan. 18, 1994, the couple had been married 58 years.

When her health started declining in December of 1998, Eula had lived on the same farm that she and her husband had started farming back in the fall of 1936.

Survivors include a son, Melvin and his wife, Rebecca on the ranch at Rapelje; daughters, Margaret and her husband, Adelbert Eder of Reedpoint and Jeanette and her husband, Dennis Hossfeld of Absarokee; a brother, Paul Farnes and his wife, Ruth of Worden; a brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. Eula was very proud of her family and loved them very much.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ernest; a daughter-in-law, Gloria Kay Lutgen; three brothers, Reo, Phil and Neil; and a sister, Hilma Lutgen.

You will be missed a lot Mom, but know you are reunited with Dad in a special place and will always be loved and remembered.

Memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.

Services will be 2 p.m. Monday, April 5, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Columbus. Interment will be in Mountainview cemetery. Smith Funeral Chapel-Columbus was in charge of arrangements.

Harry F. 'Tex' Saunders
ROUNDUP - Harry F. "Tex" Saunders died April 1, 1999, in a fire that destroyed his home.
He was born Aug. 27, 1920, in Charlotte, Texas, the son of Richard and Henrietta (Collins) Saunders, the seventh of eight children. He grew up in Texas, and worked as a farm laborer as a young man.

He married Ruth Robinson on June 1, 1940, in Mathis, Texas. They raised five children. He cared for her during her long final illness so she wouldn't have to go to a nursing home. She died in 1987.

He moved to Montana in 1943 to work on his father-in-law's sheep ranch in Garfield County. He served in the U.S. Navy in 1944-45.

In 1948 he moved to Roundup, where he spent the rest of his life. His main occupation was that of coal miner, and he worked in several mines around Roundup. In the summers when the mines weren't working, he worked on oil rigs and on the county road crew.

In his spare time he enjoyed raising a garden and other growing things, "tinkering, " and spinning yarns with his many friends. Some of his tales got bigger with each telling, especially his stories of when he was growing up in Texas.

He is survived by four sons, Chris "Corky" (Billie) of Melstone, Richard L. of Billings, R. Allen (Char) of Roundup, and Ronald (Anita) of Brookeville, Ohio; one daughter, Lily (Harlan) Meyer of Roundup; 10 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one sister, Mary Dougherty of Lockhart, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews in Texas.

Cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be on Monday, April 5, at 11 a.m. in the Wier Funeral Chapel in Roundup with interment of ashes at the Roundup City cemetery immediately following.

Luella Mildred Bury Dunn
Luella passed away Thursday afternoon, April 1, 1999, at Deaconess Hospital. She was born to John and Mary Bury on Feb. 3, 1918, at Milbank, S.D. She was raised near Milbank and Hazel, S.D. She graduated from Asbury School of Nursing in Minneapolis and became a registered nurse.
She and The Rev. Robert L. Dunn were united in marriage in 1940 at Watertown, S.D. The same summer they were appointed to be missionaries of the Methodist Church in Bolivia, South America, where they served for two years. When they returned to the States they came to Plentywood where she worked with her husband for 10 years in the Evangelical United Brethren Church. Luella also nursed during the war years.

Together they served churches in Livingston, Billings, Polson, and Park City. Twelve years were given to cooking and helping to manage the camp on the main Boulder River south of Big Timber.

Luella is survived by her husband of almost 59 years, and four sons and their families: The Rev. Terry Dunn and Lila of Lakeside, Fred Dunn and Chris of Midland, Mich., Rick Dunn and Jenifer of Billings, and Robert B. Dunn and Connie of Billings. She has 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren who all mourn her passing.

She was preceded in death by an infant son who is interred in Arica, Chile.

Cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 7, at Evangelical United Methodist Church.

Paul Gilbert Stading
Paul Gilbert Stading, 70, of Billings left this world to be with our Lord on April 2, Good Friday, at Deaconess Hospital after a short battle with cancer surrounded by his loving family.
Paul was born in Grand Forks, N.D. to Rienhold and Lydia Stading on Oct. 23, 1928. He graduated from High School in Wibaux in 1947. He served in the Air Force from 1947-1949. On Nov. 5, 1949, Dad married the love of his life Dorothy Beverly Berger at St. Leo's Catholic Church in Lewistown. They would have celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary this November.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Stading; his four children: a daughter, Sharon (Dan) O'Donnell, a daughter Paula (Tom) Larsen, a daughter Jeannette Stading, and a son Greg (Pam) Stading; his 11 grandchildren: Chris (Jana) O'Donnell, Sarah O'Donnell, Corrie O'Donnell, Jared O'Donnell, Nick O'Donnell, , Chantenelle Larsen, Amber Larsen, Cassandra Larsen, Terren Larsen, Shay Stading, and Jack Stading, all of Billings. He was a devoted, cherished and loving husband, father, and grandfather.

Dad lived in Hebron, N.D., and Port Angeles, Wash., before settling in Billings and working for Conoco Refinery until his retirement in 1991. He was an active charter member of St. Bernard's Catholic Church. He was also involved as a member of the "Knights of Columbus".

Dad loved carpentry and working with his hands up until the time of his illness. He also enjoyed attending and supporting his children and grandchildren's high school, college and professional sports activities.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Rienhold and Lydia Stading and his two brothers, Roy Stading of Woodburn, Ore., and Armin Stading of Kirkland, Wash.

God saw he was getting tired and a cure was not to be. So he put his arms around him and whispered, "Come with Me." With tear-filled eyes we watched him suffer and fade away. Although we loved him deeply, we could not make him stay. A golden heart stopped beating, hard-working hands put to rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us He only takes the best.

Vigil Service will be 7 p.m. Monday at St. Bernard's Parish. Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Bernard's Parish with interment to follow.

Allona B. Moore
Allona B. Moore, 94, of Billings, died peacefully on April 3, 1999, at Western Manor Health Care after a brief illness.
The daughter of Joseph A. Teskey and Frances Fletcher Teskey, Allona was born on Nov. 17, 1904, at Westhope, N.D. She grew up on the family farm there, attended a one-room country school nearby, and was graduated from Westhope High School. After completing teachers training, she taught in elementary schools in Maxbass, N.D. and northeastern Montana.

Allona married James M. Moore, a civil engineer, at Poplar, on May 23, 1931. The early years of their marriage were spent in small towns in northern Montana and in Waubun, Minn. In 1943 Allona and James settled in Huntley, where Allona completed a 43 year teaching career in schools in Huntley and the Billings Heights. They moved to Westpark Village in Billings in 1989.

Throughout her life Allona was committed to education. She loved teaching and she was proud of her students and their accomplishments.

Allona was preceded in death by her husband, Jim; her son James Allen Moore; and her parents.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Lorna and Robert Selby of Bowie, Md.; granddaughter Nancy Rosenthal and her husband Robert J. Rosenthal, of Holliston, Mass.; her sister Elda Jensen of Westhope, N.D. and several nieces.

Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. Sunday, April 4, at the Smith Downtown Chapel. Memorial service will be held 10 a.m., Monday, April 5th, at the Chapel. Donations may be made to the Alzheimers Assn., 2 Poly Drive, Billings, MT 59101 in lieu of flowers.

Harold Hovet
ANTELOPE - Funeral services for Harold Hovet will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 6. Pastor David C. Curtright will officiate at the service at Plentywood Lutheran Church; interment will be in Antelope Creek cemetery. Harold, 78, died Thursday morning, April 1, at Western Manor in Billings.
Harold was born in Antelope Sept. 17, 1920, to Gunder and Marie Hovet, and grew up in the Antelope community. He interrupted his high school attendance to spend time in Civilian Conservation Corps at Riggins, on the Snake River, in Idaho, in 1937. He graduated from Antelope High School in 1938. From November 1942 to February 1946, Harold served in the l6th Armored Infantry Battalion, mostly as an infantry squad leader. He saw action in France, Germany, and Austria. After the war, Harold returned to Antelope, and leased his uncle Knute's farm, which he eventually purchased. Aside from his time in the C.C.C., the U.S. Army, and a brief period in California, his life was spent in the Antelope community. In March of 1974, he married Dorothy Sain (nee' Arion.) They resided on the farm; Dorothy passed away July 6, 1997.

Harold is survived by five step-children: Larry Sain and his wife Peggy, of Glasgow; Bob Sain and his wife Eileen, of Scobey; Barry Sain and his wife Marge, of Glasgow; Carol Neumayer, of Cody, Wyo.; and Beverly and her husband Bill Oldson, of Casper, Wyo.; three brothers, Dennis, Igo, Calif.; Donald, and Gordon, both of Antelope; one sister, Sigrid, Yakima, Wash., and numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews.

Fulkerson Funeral Home of Plentywood has charge of arrangements.
