Howard 'Pat' Kelly
GLENDIVE - Howard "Pat" Kelly, age 67, of Glendive, died on Friday, May 7, 1999, at the Deaconess Hospital in Billings. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 11, at our Savior Lutheran Church in Glendive. Interment with military honors will follow in Dawson Memorial cemetery in Glendive. Silvernale-Silha Funeral Home of Glendive is entrusted with arrangements.
Pat was born on May 23, 1931, in Glendive the son of William J. and Ester (Johnson) Kelly. He was raised and educated in Glendive graduating from Dawson County High School in 1949. After graduation Pat went to work for the Montana Department of Transportation. Pat married Hope DeLight Streitmatter on Sept. 1, 1951, in Glendive. On Sept. 14, 1951, he entered the United States Army and served as a squad leader during the Korean War. After his discharge Pat returned to Glendive and the Department of Transportation where he worked as a project engineer until his retirement in 1987.

Pat enjoyed being outdoors, traveling and spending time with family and friends. He had a wonderful sense of humor. He was a lifetime member of the Glendive Elks lodge and also belonged to the Moose, V.F.W. and the American Legion.

Survivors include his wife of Glendive; three sons: Jerry Kelly and his wife Angie and Justin of Billings, Mike Kelly of Helena, and Steve Kelly and his wife Lisa and Evan of Glendive; two brothers: Bill Kelly and his wife Martha, and Bernie Kelly and his wife Bev all of Glendive; and numerous nieces and nephews. Pat was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and two brothers.

Bessie Slavens
SHORELINE, Wash. - A memorial service for Bessie Slavens, 90, formerly of Billings, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 15, at the First Congregational Church, 310 N. 27th St., Billings.

Alice Plummer
CLINTON - Alice Plummer, 93, of Clinton, passed away quietly at home surrounded by her family, on Friday, May 7, 1999. She was born Dec. 7, 1905 at Avon, S.D., to Henry and Helena Schultz. During her childhood, she lived in the Colorado, and has lived in Montana since 1916.
She graduated from Lambert High School in 1925, continuing her education by attending Normal School at Dillon and Billings. She received her diploma from Eastern Montana Normal School in 1932, and in 1956, received a Bachelor of Arts in Education from the University of Montana. She married James Lewis "Bill" Plummer, May 17, 1930.

She enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, knitting and crocheting. Her greatest love of life were her three grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Alice's dog, Lady, was the comfort of her life the last two years while living with her son and family.

She taught schools in Montana 27 years and belonged to and enjoyed Western Montana Retired Teachers Assn. for 20+ years. She was also a member of Alpha Delta Kappa Montana Fidelis Alpha and the Baptist Church.

She is survived by a son, Rex Plummer and his wife Donna of Clinton; three grandchildren: Russell Plummer and his wife Nash, Daniel Plummer, and Rebecca Gurzynski and her husband Hank; three great-grandchildren: Michael and Andrea Plummer and their mother Sara Opsahl, and Chace Daniel Gurzynski; two sisters: Grace O'Leary and Pearl Doe of Billings; and many nieces and nephews. Alice was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years on Jan. 31, 1990, as well as two brothers and three sisters.

A Memorial Service will be conducted at Clinton Community Church at 2 p.m. on Friday, May 14, with Pastor Richard Robinson officiating. A reception will follow. Memorials are suggested to the Clinton Community Church Building Fund, c/o Betty Curry, Clinton, MT 59825; or to Hospice, 500 N. Higgins Ave., Missoula, MT 59802. Arrangements are under the care of The Malletta Family of Funeral Homes, Squire Chapel.

Charles 'Chuck' Hamby
Charles "Chuck" Hamby age 64 of Billings died peacefully in his sleep at home on May 6, 1999. He was born Aug. 29, 1934, in Ismay, to Robert and Lena (Olivette) Hamby. He was united in marriage to Thelma L. Heimbuch on Sept. 15, 1962, in Plevna. He attended grade school and high school in Ismay. He then attended Montana State University at Bozeman and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering. He started his career with Conoco Pipeline Company. After his employment with Conoco, Chuck started his own business, Big Sky Irrigation, with his wife. He was an active and dedicated member of the First Congregational Church. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, golf, and winters in Yuma, Ariz. He was a member of the Lake Hills Men's Golf Association and Elks Club.
Chuck is survived by his wife; his mother, Lena of Billings; two daughters: Kaye Hamby of Seattle, Wash., and Julie Swenson and husband Scott of Billings; two sisters: Kate and husband, Charles Redmond of Ismay, and Ella Mae and husband Bernard Obie of Billings; three brothers: Mel of Billings, Bill and wife Carole of Spokane, Wash., and John and wife Shirley of Billings.

He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Hamby.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 11, at the First Congregational Church in Billings. Visitation will be Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m. and Monday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the Dahl Funeral Chapel in Billings. Interment will be in Mountview cemetery.

He was a caring, loving, Christian man who was generous to a fault. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Larry R. Brownson
CUSTER, S.D. - Larry R. Brownson, 58, Custer, died Thursday May 6, 1999, at Rapid City Regional Hospital.
Larry was born March 29, 1941, to Wilbur and Vera (Parsons) Brownson in Rapid City. He lived in South Dakota, Colorado. Montana, Nebraska and Minnesota. He graduated high school in Hot Springs in 1959, and went to college at SDSU in Brookings and received a BA in music education from UNC in Greeley, Colo., in 1963. Larry worked at Red Owl store, he was a Band and Choir Director, worked at Wind Cave National Park, Yellowstone National Park, and Glacier National Park, and also worked as a bus driver for Trailway Bus Company, Gray Line of the Black Hills, and Jack Rabbit Bus Company.

He married Norma Jeanne McBride at Sylvan Lake on Aug. 14, 1980.

Larry belonged to MENC, (Music Education), he was a Boy Scout Leader, a volunteer fire man in Montana, belonged to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and was also the Church Choir Director of Joliet Christian Church, Joliet, Mont.

Survivors include his wife, Jeanne Brownson, Custer; one daughter, Tirani VanEmmerick and her husband Doug, Springfield, S.D., two sons: Aaron and Kelly Brownson, Custer; one sister, Joyce McClanahan and husband Marc, Torrington, Wyo.; one granddaughter, Haley VanEmmerik; one nephew, John McClanahan, Telluride, Colo.; and one niece, Melinda McClanahan, Casper, Wyo.

He was preceded in death by his parents Wilbur and Vera, and one infant brother, Roger.

Services will be 11 a.m. Monday, May 10, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Hot Springs, with President Kenneth Zortman officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior at the church.

Burial will be at Evergreen cemetery, Hot Springs.

Behrens Mortuary, Rapid City, is in charge of arrangements.

James Lee Dumolt
James Lee Dumolt, 54 of Billings, died unexpectedly in a truck accident near West Yellowstone on Friday, May 7, 1999. He was born June 29, 1944, in Lamar, Mo., the son of Donna Jean and Truman DuMolt.
Jim was raised by his grandparents, Myrtle and Ollie DuMolt and graduated from Catholic High School in Searrcy, Ark. In 1967, he joined the Army and served in the Korean War until 1969. Following the war, he moved to Montana, where he was reunited with his three brothers, Donald, David, and Dale. In 1976, he met and married Ingrid Tombre in Billings. Ingrid was the organist at Messiah Lutheran Church where Jim was also a member.

Jim was a truck driver for G.D. Eastlick for 18 years. He was a member of the V.F.W. Post #6774, where he was active in community services. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed camping. Jim was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved wife Ingrid in 1997.

Survivors include his brothers, Donald, David, and Dale DuMolt and his wife Pat Doll; his mother-in-law, Mildred Tombre of Billings; his stepmother, Bonnie DuMolt; his aunts, Nickie (Jerry) Bailey of Auburn, Calif. and Sparky Robinson of Mo.; his cousins, David (Mary) Pierson and Karen Crockett of Mo.; his sister-in-law, Sigrid (Jerry) Anderson of Calif.; and brother-in-law Matt (Carol) Tombre of Wash.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Jim was dearly loved and will be missed immensely by his family and friends.

Visitation will be held 1 to 7 p.m. Monday, May 10th, at Michelotti, Sawyers and Nordquist, 1001 Alderson Ave., with cremation to follow. A memorial service will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 11th at Messiah Lutheran Church, 2939 Colton Blvd. Memorials may be sent to the Messiah Lutheran Church Building Fund, 2939 Colton Blvd., Billings, MT 59102 or the charity of one's choice.

Thomas P. Healy
FARIBAULT, Minn. - Thomas P. Healy, 72, of Faribault, Minn., died Feb. 17, 1999, at Abbott-Northwestern Hospital, Minn. Memorial services were held at Immaculate Conception Church, with Bishop Paul Dudley officiating. Burial was at St. Lawrence cemetery, Faribault.
Thomas Patrick Healy, son of Lewis F. and Isabelle Emma Healy, was born on April 29, 1926, in Faribault. He graduated from Faribault High School and St. Olaf College.

He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II as an aircraft observer, and moved to Billings in 1952. He worked at Midland Bank, and became a Scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 212 at St. Patrick's Church. The troop re-located to Holy Rosary and later to St. Pius Church.

Tom was a role model to hundreds of young men in Scouting. Scouting was a full-time avocation for Tom, and his house was always an after-school and weekend gathering place for his Scouts. Many boys became Eagle Scouts in Troop 212, and the Troop once celebrated six new Eagle Scouts at one time, then a record in Billings.

Especially memorable were summer camps on the West Rosebud, and winter camp at Lions Camp south of Red Lodge. Boys earned merit badges, learned first aid, and sang songs and told stories around campfires at night.

Tom then moved to Honolulu, where he received a Masters' Degree from the University of Hawaii. He then taught History and English for 23 years at the University of Hawaii and St. Louis High School. He started a Scout Troop in Honolulu, and was active in Scouting until he retired and moved back to Faribault.

In Faribault, he was a popular substitute teacher until his death. He also authored a book on Easter Island, which he visited several times. Again, Tom was active with the Boy Scouts of America, serving as Executive Director in Faribault.

Tom is survived by numerous cousins in Minnesota, and by his Billings "family", friends and many former Scouts, now-grown men. Tom made a difference in our lives, and he will be remembered

Helen Breil
POWELL, Wyo. - Helen Davis (Dahlstrom) Breil died Friday, May 7, 1999 in Powell. Wyo. Helen was born Jan. 1, 1911 in Bridger, Mont., the youngest of four children born to Andrew and Rena (Hopkins) Dahlstrom. The family moved to Billings in 1926, and Helen graduated from Billings Senior High in 1928.
Eugene Breil and Helen Dahlstrom were united in marriage on June 1, 1940. Gene died in 1963. Gene and Helen were both members of Billings Bible Church.

Surviving are their daughter Mary Beth Keil and husband Bill of Powell, Wyo.; Grandson Eric Keil, wife Kendra, and son Joshua of Sagle, Idaho; Granddaughter Mindy Gilbert, husband Derek and sons Nathan, Elijah and Matthew. She is also survived by 10 very special nieces and nephews and their families.

Helen was preceded in death by her sister, Maryden Nelsen Bartels (1906-1997), her brother Carrol Dahlstrom (1907-1972), and her brother, John Dahlstrom (1909-1998).

In lieu of flowers, memorials may by directed to Billings Bible Church's Mission Fund or to Montana Rescue Mission.

Visitation will be 3 to 5, Sunday, May 9 and 8 to 5, Monday at Dahl Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, 10 a.m., May 11, at Billings Bible Church.

Interment will be at Mountview cemetery . The family has entrusted Dahl Funeral Chapel with the arrangements.

Leah B. McKee
Leah B. McKee, 89, of Billings, passed away on May 7, 1999, at the Deaconess Hospital. She was born on Sept. 15, 1909, at Oxford, Mont., Judith Gap Township, the daughter of John and Clara Burgess.
The family moved north of Laurel where she attended country schools. Later on she was married to Charles W. Cunningham on Dec. 9, 1927, at Billings. Of this marriage three children were born, Alice Mae, Edna and Loran.

She was later married to Chauncey M. McKee on Nov. 5, 1945 at Livingston, Mont. They lived at Ennis and Anaconda and then moved to Billings in 1970 when Mr. McKee retired.

Leah was a member of Billings Senior Citizens and an associate member of District 4 Fiddlers. Her favorite activity was attending their dances.

Surviving are two daughters Alice Mae Walker and Edna I. (Bill) Bray of Billings; a son Loran W. Cunningham and his wife Phillis of Bigfork, seven grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Chauncey, a grandson James Walker and two sisters Iva Edgmond and Pearl Polesky.

At her request cremation will take place. Memorial graveside services will be at a later date. Smith Funeral chapel is in charge of arrangements. Memorials, charity of your choice.

Siotha Edwards Ramsey
HOUSTON, Texas - Our mother and grandmother died May 6. 1999, at Mariner Health of Cypress Wood in Houston, following a lengthy illness. She was 97 years old. The youngest of three children, Siotha Edwards Ramsey was born in Munfordville, Ky., to William Thomas Edwards and Addie Davis Self Edwards.
In 1920, she married John Alton Ramsey in Cushing, Okla. They had one daughter, Norma Denson of Lake Charles, La., and a son, John Alton Ramsey of Jasper, Ala. Mrs. Ramsey worked many years at St. Vincent's Hospital in Billings as payroll clerk. She volunteered much of her time to community affairs, the Welfare Board, and the Pink Lady Organization.

She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and the Federated Club. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, John Logsdon and George Edwards, her husband, and her daughter.

Survivors include her son; her five grandchildren, Cherie Sigrist of Seattle, Colen Ramsey and Denise Michael of Birmingham, Ala., Rebecca Martin of Houston, and Melissa Smith of Lake Charles; 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

Graveside services will be held 2 p.m. Monday, May 10, at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be sent to the American Heart Association or the charity of one's choice. Michelotti, Sawyers & Nordquist is in charge of local arrangements.
