Robert B. 'Scotty' Graham
TOWNSEND - Robert B. "Scotty" Graham, 74, died July 24, 1999, in the Miles City VA Nursing Home.
Cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 3, in the Townsend American Legion Hall. Bullis-Graves Memorial Chapel of Miles City is in charge of arrangements.

Gary Alden Plenty Buffalo, Sr.
HARDIN - Gary Lee Alden Plenty Buffalo, Sr., 40, of rural Hardin passed away Tuesday, July 27, 1999, at Deaconess Hospital following a short illness.
He was born June 5, 1959, in Crow Agency, one of the seven children born to Fred and Ruth House Alden. Gary was adopted at a young age by John Plenty Buffalo.

Gary lived with his family in rural Hardin. He raised cattle and horses and helped his father train race horses. He attended schools in Hardin and Rex College in Rexburg, Idaho.

He was a member of the Black Lodge Church, Big Lodge Clan and a Greasy Mouth Child.

Gary worked for Safeway, Anthony's, Lammers, Holly Sugar Factory, Morning Star Construction, Crow Tribe, IHS Hospital and the Pork Factory. He was very supportive of the Hardin Bulldogs and especially enjoyed watching his children and nephews play basketball. He also enjoyed hunting ad fishing.

Survivors include his former wife, Gloria; his mother, Ruth Alden; one daughter, Carylene Plenty Buffalo of Lodge Grass; two sons, Michael John Plenty Buffalo and Gary Plenty Buffalo, Jr. of the family home; one grandchild, Danyelle Takes Gun; two sisters, Susan White of Dunmore and Jana Alden of Hardin; six brothers, Pat, Aaron and Fred Alden III of Crow Agency, Bruce House of Dunmore, Leon Alden and Ricky Fighter Sr. of Hardin; his financee, Delauria Spotted Horse of Lodge Grass; his grandmothers, Mae House of Dunmore and Ruth Backbone Alden of Lodge Grass; his adopted sisters, Gladys Brien, Verna Jefferson and Jaclyn Ware; his adopted brother, Alden Big Man Sr.; his Plenty Buffalo adopted family, Cordelia Real Bird, Virgina Real Bird, Brenda Fighter, Iva Mosley, Davene Big Lake, Samuel, Darwin, Victor and Johnny Bullshows, Levi Yellowmule and Mike Yellowmule.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Crow Agency Catholic Church Gymnasium. Interment will follow in the Crow Agency cemetery. Bullis Mortuary of Hardin has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Fern Icele Roos
Fern Icele Roos, 77, of Billings, died Wednesday, July 28, 1999, at Deaconess Hospital.
The daughter of Ben and Pearl Martinson, Fern was born July 4, 1922, in Mills, Wyo. She moved with her family to Terry, Mont., where she was raised and educated. She married Roy N. Roos in Miles City, June 22, 1942. They have made their home in Billings since 1954.

Fern worked 17 years at the appointment desk for the Billings Clinic. She enjoyed fishing, camping and all types of fancy work, especially crocheting and knitting. Fern was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and friend who will be missed by all who knew her. She was a member of St. Patrick's Co-Cathedral.

Survivors include her husband Roy, and two children, Lisette P. Heine (Doug) and Marty N. Roos of Billings, four grandchildren, Andrew Roos, Brandon Roos, Jessica Patterson (Lee) and Jill Decker (Darren), and one great granddaughter, Samantha Decker.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers Myrlin and Walter H. Martinson and a sister Beatrice Hendrickson.

Vigil services will be 7 p.m.. Thursday at Michelotti, Sawyers & Nordquist Mortuary. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Patrick's Co-Cathedral with Rite of Committal at Holy Cross cemetery.

Loren D. Sax
SIDNEY - Loren D. Sax, 62, died at his home Wednesday, July 28, 1999.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 2, at the Lonsdale United Methodist Church in Sidney with burial in Richland Memorial Park. Fulkerson Funeral Home is in charge.

Kathryn Herzog
MILES CITY - Kathryn Herzog, 97, died Wednesday, July 28, 1999, at Friendship Village Care Center.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 31, in the chapel of Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home with burial in the Custer County cemetery.

Geraldine Mulholland
SHERIDAN, Wyo. - Geraldine Mulholland, 82, died Saturday, July 24, 1999, at Westview Health Care Center.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 2, at Champion Funeral Home with burial in the Elks cemetery.

Ella Mae Nightingale
We mourn the loss of Ella Mae Nightingale, who passed away at her home on Tuesday, July 27, 1999, surrounded by her family. She was born April 24, 1930, and grew up on the family farm in St. John, Stafford County, Kan. She was the eldest daughter of Chester George and Nellie Hockensmith George.
After attending country schools in Radium and Belpre, she trained as a stenographer at the Wichita Business College. On Oct. 27, 1950, she married Carlyle B. "Chappy" Nightingale. Chappy's work as a geologist in the oil fields led them to move 19 times during the first 10 years of their marriage. A new career in insurance brought them to Miles City, Mont., in 1962. Ella Mae was a dental assistant for 15 years, beginning in 1967. After retirement in 1984, they moved to Billings.

Ella Mae was always active in her local United Methodist Church, singing in choir and teaching Sunday School for 41 years. Her particular love was teaching third and fourth graders. She had been a member of P.E.O. since 1972, serving in all offices. Ella Mae enriched the lives of her family and friends through sewing, cooking and weekly letter writing.

Ella Mae is survived by her husband and her three daughters: Carlene Nightingale and her husband Ernie Ross of Cardiff by the Sea, Calif.; Thana Fischer and her husband Doug and daughters Kate and Carly of Billings; Chris Nightingale and her husband Merle Froslie and their children Tammy and Carl of Billings. She is also survived by her siblings and their spouses: Clara Link and her husband John of Uniontown, Pa.; Jewel Schartz and her husband Omar of Larned, Kan.; Geneva George of Indianapolis, Ind.; Chet George and his wife Muriel of West Chester, Pa.; Beverly Aldrich and her husband Phil of Great Bend, Kan., and 19 nieces and nephews.

Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 1, at the First United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Cottey College (P.E.O. women's college), Big Sky Hospice or the First United Methodist Church.

Small things often grow to be the greatest treasures of our memory. Ella Mae had a gift for transforming the ordinary duties of life into moments of Grace. We will miss her joyful spirit.

Patricia Ann Holle
Patricia Ann Holle went home to be with her Lord on Tuesday morning, July 27, 1999. Pat was born on Feb. 24, 1936, the daughter of Anne and Harold Holle in Limon, Colo.
Pat was a graduate of Billings Senior High School. She attended the University of Denver for five years and worked for many years as a medical technologist.

Pat's hobbies included skiing and swimming. She was an active, involved member of Alcoholics Anonymous. Pat was a motivational speaker who worked diligently to help others conquer their addictions to alcohol and/or drugs. Faith Chapel was Pat's church home where she was an active member of a community group. Pat had a gift for encouraging other people to be their very best.

Survivors include Pat's mother, Anne Larson of Billings, a sister, Pam Ellis of Indonesia, two brothers, Grant Holle of Big Fork, Mont., and Greg Holle of Omaha, Neb., two nieces and several aunts and uncles. She also has a large extended family in Bozeman with whom she enjoyed celebrating holidays and special occasions.

A memorial service in Pat's honor will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 31, at Faith Chapel, 517 Shiloh Road in Billings. Memorials in her name may be made to the Shriners' Transportation Fund or the Ronald McDonald House. Arrangements were made by Cremation or Funeral Gallery.

Harold Wilson, Sr.
CROW AGENCY - Harold Wilson, Sr., 84, of Crow Agency, died Tuesday, July 27, 1999, in the Sheridan, Wyo., VA Hospital.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Bullis Funeral Chapel in Hardin with burial with military honors in the Crow Agency cemetery.

Loretta Geraldine Reardon
MILES CITY - Loretta Geraldine Reardon, 83, died Sunday, July 25, 1999, at her home.
Vigil services will be at 6 p.m. Wednesday, July 28, in the chapel of Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home. Mass will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 29, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church with interment in the Calvary cemetery.

John Lapp
FALLON - John Lapp, age 83, of Fallon, passed away on Sunday, July 25, 1999, at his home on the family farm east of Fallon.
John was born on Dec. 25, 1915, at Hastings, Neb., the son of Fred and Anna (Harding) Lapp. As a young child John's family moved to Savage where he attended school. On Feb. 3, 1940, John enlisted into the U.S. Army with four of his brothers, where he served in Pearl Harbor. After his honorable discharge on May 29, 1945, John moved to Fallon, where he purchased his farm east of Fallon. John and Gertrude Denby were united in marriage in March of 1948. While John farmed, he also worked for Hank Gaub as a mechanic. Gertrude passed away in 1964, and on Feb. 10, 1968, John and Mae Petersen were united in marriage at Terry. John remained working on the farm until the time of his death. He loved to bowl, fish and farm. He also enjoyed having coffee every day with his friends.

John is survived by two sons: Steven Lapp of Louisiana and David Lapp of Montana; a daughter, Anne Schroeder of Colorado Springs, Colo.; a stepdaughter, Carla Prevost and her husband, Walter of Savage; four brothers: Leland Lapp of Basin, Wyo.; Harold and Willis Lapp, both of Glendive; and George Lapp of Terry; four sisters: Frances Piche and Hazel Bach, both of Sidney; Marie Kizer of Julesburg, Colo.; and Lydia Buxbaum of Glendive; two grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his two wives; three brothers: Frank, Henry, and Fred; his sister, Margaret; and a stepson, Ronald Jimison.

Visitation will be held all day Wednesday, July 28, 1999, at the chapel of Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Terry. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 29, 1999, at 10:30 a.m. at the Grace Lutheran Church in Fallon, with Rev. James Hageman officiating. Interment will follow in the family lot in the Prairie County cemetery in Terry. Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home of Terry is in charge of arrangements.

Donald Lee Stewart
MILES CITY - Donald Lee Stewart, age 59, of Miles City, passed away suddenly of an apparent heart attack on Monday, July 26, 1999 at the Rosebud Health Care Center in Forsyth.
Don was born on March 14, 1940, at Miles City, the son of Billie Curtiss and Irene (Scheid) Stewart. Don was raised and lived in their home at Fort Keogh. Don attended grade school and graduated from Custer County High School. Following he attended the University of Nebraska on a football scholarship, and also played basketball for the Cornhuskers. Don returned to Montana where he played football for University of Montana in Missoula and also played football for Rocky Mountain College in Billings. During the summer Don played semi-pro baseball at Anaconda with Charlie Pride. He returned to Miles City and went to work for the Montana State Highway Department. On June 19, 1960, Don and Sandra Lehne were united in marriage at the First United Methodist Church in Miles City. Don was active in the Custer County School Board, acting as Vice Chairman for three years. He also coached fifth and sixth grade basketball for several years. Don was also active in the church as a Sunday School Teacher. After 32 years, Don retired from the highway department in 1994, when he went to work for Prince Construction in Forsyth until the time of his death.

Don loved all sports, horse racing, fishing and hunting. Most of all Don loved to spend time with his family.

He is survived by his wife, Sandra of Miles City; two sons: Curtis Stewart and his wife, Gina of New Lenox, Ill., and Thornton "T.J." Stewart and his wife, Ann of Billings; a daughter, Neena Steadman and her husband, Tim of Miles City; two brothers: Billie Stewart and his wife, Rosemary of Spokane, Wash., and Gary Stewart and his wife, Connie of Chicago, Ill.; a sister, Kay Johnson and her husband, Melvin of Miles City; and 10 grandchildren: Erin, Marisa and Brilyn Steadman, Michael, Michelle and Mindy Sherman, Nicole, Ashley, Kayley and Tristan Donald Stewart. He was preceded in death by his parents.

A prayer service will be held on Friday, July 30, 1999, at 7:30 p.m. in the chapel of Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 31, 1999, at 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Grover Briggs officiating. Interment will follow in the family lot in the Custer County cemetery. Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home of Miles City is in charge of arrangements.

Should friends desire, memorials may be made to the Don Stewart Youth Scholarship Fund at the First United Methodist Church, 24 N. 11th, Miles City, MT 59301.

Richard Uphaus
GLASGOW - Richard Uphaus, 85, died Tuesday, July 27, 1999, at the Frances Mahon Deaconess Hospital of natural causes.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 29, at the First United Methodist Church with interment in the Highland cemetery. Bell Mortuary is in charge.

Danny J Hofer
KING COLONY - Danny J. Hofer, 12, of King Colony, west of Lewistown, died Monday evening at the colony of injuries sustained in a farm accident. He was born Jan. 16, 1987, in Lewistown, the son of Paul and Sara (Tschetter) Hofer. He had completed the sixth grade at King Colony School.
He was only 12 years old, but touched many lives. He loved to fish, help his dad and mom in the garden and play with his friends.

He is survived by his parents, Paul and Sara Hofer; brothers: Marvin, Sammy, and Toby; paternal grandmother, Mary Hofer, all of King Colony; and maternal grandfather, John Tschetter of Canada; several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Funeral services for Danny J. Hofer will be Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at the King Colony with interment to follow in the King Colony cemetery. The Cloyd Funeral Home of Lewistown is in charge of arrangements.

Joan C. Wheeler
CODY, Wyo. - Joan C. (Ewing) Wheeler, 67, died Friday, July 23, 1999, at West Park Long Term Care Center.
Cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 2, at the Episcopal Little Church. Ballard Funeral Home is in charge.

James B. Robinson
MALTA - James B. Robinson, 78, died Tuesday, July 27, 1999, at his home of cancer.
Cremation has taken place at Hi-Line Crematory. Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, July 30, at the Malta cemetery. Adams Funeral Home is in charge.

Mary K. 'Kay' White
ABSAROKEE - Mary K. "Kay" White, 92, of Absarokee, died of natural causes Monday, July 26, 1999, in the Columbus Hospital.
She was born June 19, 1907, at Deitz, Wyo., to James and Christine Weir. She grew up in Roundup. She attended college at Billings Polytechnic and Dillon Normal School and taught country school.

She married Lysle White on Dec. 15, 1934, in Long Beach, Calif. They lived in Wyoming, California and Montana, working for Richfield and AMAX oil companies. They retired to Inverness in 1966 and moved to Absarokee in 1978.

She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, playing cards and most of all family and friends.

Survivors include a daughter, Sandra Friberg of Chester; grandchildren, Greg Friberg of Vancouver, Wash., Debbie Lineweaver of Joplin, Jon Friberg of Inverness; a brother, James Weir of Helena; a sister, Beverly Sankovich of Yakima, Wash.; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband and sisters, Elizabeth Merritt and Georgia Edna Wold.

Cremation has taken place. Graveside Memorial Service and burial of ashes are at 11 a.m. Friday, July 30, 1999, at the Rosebud cemetery in Absarokee. Smith Funeral Chapel of Columbus is in charge of arrangements. Memorials are suggested to: Absarokee Ambulance Service, Absarokee, Mont. 59001.
