Connie D. Partington
Connie D. Partington passed away peacefully at home on July 25, surrounded by her family, after an extended illness with emphysema.
She is survived by her husband, Bill; son Bill Fulton and daughter-in-law Liz, granddaughters Emma and Maria; daughter Carlyn Fulton DuCharme and son-in law Paul, grandsons Ryan and Kasey Austin; daughter Patti Conroy and son-in-law Kevin, granddaughters Kourtney and Kirby; daughter Joni Aronson and son-in-law Bruce, granddaughter Danelle Weaver; brother Larry Iversen and his wife Linda and step-mother Edith Iversen.Connie was preceded in death by her parents Mabel and Carl Iversen.

As per her wishes, no services are planned. A private family gathering will take place at a later date.

Memorials may be made to Big Sky Hospice or the Humane Society. Michelotti, Sawyers & Nordquist has charge of arrangements.

Robert F. Long
BUFFALO, Wyo. - Robert "Bob" Long, 77, died Friday, July 23, 1999, at his home.
Visitation will be 1-10 p.m. Monday, July 26, and 8-9:30 a.m. Tuesday at Adams Funeral Home Chapel. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday with interment in Willow Grove cemetery.

Johnnie Anderson
MILES CITY - Johnnie Anderson, 90, died Saturday, July 24, 1999, at the Holy Rosary Health Center Extended Care.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 27, at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home chapel with interment in the Custer County cemetery.

Clarence L. Birr
SHERIDAN, Wyo. - Clarence L. Birr, 90, died Thursday, July 22, 1999, at his home.
Viewing will be all day Monday, July 26, until 5:30 p.m., at Ferries Funeral Home. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday with interment at the Sheridan Municipal cemetery.

Thelma DeDakis
Thelma DeDakis, 66, died Friday, July 23, 1999, at her home.
Cremation has taken place. Affordable Alternative Cremation and Burial Services is in charge.

Irene Austin
Irene Austin, 97, of Billings, formerly Spokane, Wash., died Friday, July 23, 1999, at St. John's Lutheran Home.
Irene Mary Austin was born in Seattle on May 21, 1902, to Edward (Emilio) and Casimira Baiocchi Brunini. Italian as well as English, were spoken in the home. On Aug. 27, 1924, Irene married Michael William Austin. Irene and Mike had one daughter, Barbara, who lives in Oregon.

Irene loved being a homemaker, keeping fit, shopping, and spending time with her grandchildren. The family moved to Spokane in 1942, where Irene stayed until Mike's death in 1992. After his death, Irene moved to Billings to be near her granddaughter, Judy Smith.

Irene leaves behind one daughter, Barbara Green; seven grandchildren and their spouses: Brian Green (Leslie), Kevin Green (Susan), Judy Smith (Bob), Sue Famighetti-Nevin (Joe), Terri Petre (Matt), Jack Green (Sarah), and Michael A. Green; 12 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

The Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Monday at Michelotti, Sawyers & Nordquist Mortuary. The Funeral Mass will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at St. Thomas The Apostle Church. Rite of Committal will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Holy Cross cemetery, Spokane.

Memorials may be made to Big Sky Hospice.

Michelotti, Sawyers & Nordquist has charge of arrangements.

James Steven Hall
REED POINT - James Steven Hall, 51, passed away at St. Vincent Hospital in Billings on Wednesday, July 21, 1999. He was the son of Darwin and Ferne Hall of Truman, Minn. Jim married Judy Andrews on Feb. 12, 1972. They farmed near Truman until 1994 when he began ranching near Big Timber and most recently near Reed Point.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 27 years, Judy; his two daughters, Lisa Hall of Grove City, Pa., and Angela Hall of Missoula; and his sister, Judy Ohlson of Lake Zurich, Ill.

A memorial service will be held Monday, July 26, at 2 p.m. at the Reed Point Evangelical Church. Cards and memorials may be sent to the family of Jim Hall, P.O. Box 381, Reed Point, MT 59069.

Helen J. Kleffner
TOWNSEND - Helen J. Kleffner, 84, died at home Saturday, July 24, 1999, after an extended illness.
She was born April 5, 1915, to Magdalen Gonsior Johnson and Anton Johnson Sr., in Belt. She graduated from Great Falls High School in 1933, and from Montana State University in Missoula in 1938, with a degree in home economics.

In August 1941, she married Leo Kleffner of Belt. They farmed near Belt for 10 years, after which Leo joined the County Extension Service and they lived in Fort Peck and Hardin, where Helen resumed teaching school. They retired to Townsend in 1978.

She is survived by her husband, Leo; her sister, Margaret Edwards of Birmingham, Ala.; and her brother, Anton Johnson Jr. and his wife, Mary Ann of Raynesford. Helen and Leo have five children: Margaret Nydell of Washington, D.C.; Maxine Benedict and her husband, Les of Helena; Mark Kleffner of Missoula; Marilyn Hoffman of Carson City, Nev.; and Millie Karol of Lacey, Wash. There are also seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Helen was active in several community organizations: Altar Society, Women's Club, Garden Club, Book Club, and the Hospital Auxiliary. She was noted for her fine sewing, handwork, quilts, and artistic projects, and left many heirlooms as her legacy.

The funeral will be held on Wednesday, July 28, at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Townsend, followed by burial at Holy Cross cemetery. A rosary will be held at the church on Tuesday night at 7 p.m. There will be a luncheon at the church following the burial.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to WestMont Hospice in Helena. Connors Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Frank J. Cestnik
CODY, Wyo. - Frank J. Cestnik, age 84, passed away Wednesday, July 21, 1999, at St. Vincent's in Billings, Mont. He was born Sept. 11, 1915, in Washoe, Mont., the son of John and Rosie Gazewood Cestnik. Frank grew up around the Bear Creek area. When he was young, he worked on sheep and cattle ranches in Montana and on dude ranches in Wyoming. From 1936 to 1938, Frank worked on the Morris Ranch. It was during this time he met and married Sarah Ethel DeVries on Nov. 12, 1938. Following their marriage, the couple moved to town and Frank began working for Husky Oil Company in the spring of 1939. He continued to work there, retiring in 1978.
Frank loved the outdoors, especially fishing and hunting, camping and the mountains. He loved to take his nephews fishing. Frank had great creative ability and enjoyed the challenge of fixing and repairing things. A welder by trade, he was an artist with his welding.

His survivors include his wife, Ethel of Cody; and two sisters, Mary Horn of Denver, Colo., and Pauli and her husband, Kenneth Burnam of Lakewood, Colo. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, John; and three sisters, Ann Burns, Margaret Harmon and Helen Reynolds.

A memorial graveside service for Frank J. Cestnik will be held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 27, at Riverside cemetery in Cody.

Those wishing may make donations to Northern Rockies Cancer Center of Cody in Frank's memory.

Mina Rose Dunning Tonkovich
Mina Rose Dunning Tonkovich, 80, of Billings, died peacefully Friday, July 23, 1999.
Mina Rose Dunning Tonkovich was born Feb. 12, 1919, to Forest and Beatrice Dunning in Miles City. She grew up with her 10 brothers and sisters on family farms in Rosebud County. She graduated from high school at St. Labre's Mission at Ashland in 1936. She graduated from Billings Normal College and got her teaching certificate. In 1943 she taught in Roberts and then in Gardiner in 1944 before joining the Waves (U.S. Navy) during WWII in May 1944. She was honorably discharged in 1946 and returned to school to get her degree in education from Eastern Montana College. In 1948 she taught school in Roundup for one year before returning to the U.S. Navy, where she served a total of 10 years. During the latter part of her service, she was a Navy recruiter in Butte where she met her husband-to-be, Frank Tonkovich. They were united in marriage on Oct. 6, 1956.

In 1957 Mina and Frank set out on a grand adventure to build their lives together in Alaska. They lived and taught in Haines, Alaska, before finally settling in Juneau. While in Alaska, this union was blessed with four beautiful children: James, Dolly, Jeff and Anna Lee. In 1972, the family moved back to Montana where Mina obtained her master's degree in special education from Eastern Montana College. She taught at several local schools and shared her love for teaching and children with all she met.

Mina was preceded in death by her father and mother; brothers, Leonard and George Dunning. She is survived by her loving husband, Frank Tonkovich of Billings; sons, James (Page) Tonkovich of Redwing, Minn., and Jeff Tonkovich of Atlanta, Ga.; daughters, Dolly Homme of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Anna Lee (Eric Daymo) Tonkovich of Pasco, Wash.; brothers, James Dunning of Hathaway, Charles Dunning of Cheyenne, Wyo., Frank Dunning of Billings, Leslie Dunning of Browning, and Dick Dunning of Ennis; sisters, Sister Marie Carmel Dunning of Leavenworth, Kan., Pat Anderson of Miles City, and Lena Harris of Canyon Ferry; and sister-in-law, Joan Dunning of Miles City. She is also survived by her grandchildren: the children of James - Tim, JJ and Ambrosia; and Dolly's children - Cassy, Jeremy and Lilli.

Vigil service will be held at Dahl Funeral Chapel at 7 p.m. Monday evening, followed by an all-night vigil at St. Pius X. Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Tuesday morning at St. Pius X. Memorials may be made to the St. Pius X Building Fund, 717 18t St. W., Billings, MT 59102.

Clifford Powelson
BYRON, Wyo. - Clifford Powelson, 87, died Friday, July 23, 1999, at West Park Hospital in Cody.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Sunday, July 25, at Haskell Funeral Home in Lovell and one hour before the services Monday, July 26, at the Byron L.D.S. Chapel. Services will be at 3 p.m. Monday at the chapel with interment in the Byron cemetery.

Thomas George Dew
GLENDIVE - Thomas George Dew, 73 formerly of Hardin, died Friday, July 23, 1999, in the Glendive Medical Center.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, July 26, at the Fairview cemetery in Hardin. Silvernale-Silha Funeral Home of Glendive and Bullis Mortuary of Hardin are in charge.

Carrol Ethlyn Hillman
GLASGOW - Carrol Ethlyn Hillman, 81, formerly of Hinsdale, died Friday, July 23, 1999, at Valley View Nursing Home of natural causes.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 28, at the First Lutheran Church in Hinsdale with interment in the Hillview cemetery. Bell Mortuary is in charge.

Margaret Christensen
DANVILLE. Va. - Margaret "Peggy" Langston Christensen, 79, of 1606 Maple Drive, died Friday, July 16, 1999, at her residence. Born on Aug. 10, 1919, in south Boston, she was the daughter of Oliver C. Cawley and Margaret Roberts Cawley.
She was married on Feb. 15, 1946, to Kenneth O. Christensen of the residence, who survives. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Danville.

She was predeceased by one brother, Oliver C. Cawley Jr., and two sisters, Emmeline Terry Hoye and Mary C. Anderson.

Funeral services were held July 20, 1999, at First Baptist Church with Rev. Joey Faucette officiating. Interment was at Highland Park.

Henry 'Hank' Gaub
FALLON - Henry "Hank" Gaub, 88, of Fallon, died Saturday, July 23, 1999, at the Glendive Hospital.
A prayer service will be at 6 p.m. Sunday, July 25, at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Terry. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, July 26, at the Hope American Lutheran Church with interment in the Prairie County cemetery.

Velma Gayle Christiansen
CODY, Wyo. - Velma Gayle Christiansen passed away on July 21, 1999, in West Park Long Term Care Center from complications due to cancer.
Gayle was born Feb. 16, 1937, in Greybull, to W. Palmer and Theresa Gormley. She was the youngest of eight children. Her siblings are Gerald (deceased), Frances Leslie, Preator (deceased), Evelyn Mobley, Palma Moser, Wesley (Elaine) Gormley and Richard (Carrie) Gormley.

Gayle married Lee T. Christiansen on June 19, 1957, in the Idaho Falls Temple. He passed away on Jan. 7, 1999. Together they had six children, five sons and one daughter. Their children are Bart (Leslie) Christiansen of Elizabeth, Colo.; Phillip (Alma) Christiansen of Cedar Grove, Wis.; Rob (Terrin) Christiansen of Burlington; Van (Dawn) Christiansen of Pleasant View, Utah; Alice (David) Benard of Syracuse, Utah; and James Christiansen of Burlington. She had 25 grandchildren with one that preceded her in death.

Gayle graduated from Utah State University with a degree in education. She taught school for 25 years in Brigham City, Utah, Lovell and Meeteetse. She also served in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in various positions. Her greatest joy came in reaching the youth and being with them. She always had a desire to learn and was constantly studying various topics, her favorites being religion and history. She devoted much of her time to genealogy. She found great joy in being with her family.

A viewing will be held in the Burlington LDS Chapel on Sunday, July 25, from 6-8 p.m. The funeral will be held Monday, July 26, at 10 a.m. at the same location.

Memorials may be sent to Shoshone First Bank at 1401 Sheridan Ave., Cody, WY 82414, for the Christiansen missionary fund.

Ina Johanna Puhto
CODY, Wyo. - Ina Johanna Puhto passed away July 22, 1999, at West Park Hospital in Cody.
She was born in Red Lodge, Mont., on Jan. 12, 1915, the daughter of Erick and Hannah Ukkola. She spent her childhood years in Red Lodge and on the family ranch in Fox, Mont.

She married Reino Puhto on Feb. 27, 1933. They spent many years traveling the western United States while he worked on highway construction projects. She loved those years of traveling, fishing, and camping at various places. Reino and Ina had two children, Janet Marie and Donald Walter.

Ina's greatest loves were her family, her dog Muffy, playing piano and spending time in the outdoors. At the age of 13 Ina began playing piano for dances, continuing through the years with the Night Owl Orchestra as it played around the Red Lodge area. She had many fond memories of her time spent tying flies, fishing and camping. She taught all her grandchildren how to fish and took them on many excursions to the Beartooth Mountains. She and Reino were the inspiration for the weekly fly fishing shows her grandson John began filming for ESPN in 1990. Ina was a fine seamstress and wonderful cook right up until her final days. She was known for her chocolate brownies and cookies, Finn bread and homemade pickles and jellies. Once she and Reino moved to Cody in 1969 she filled her house with African violets and her yard with beautiful gardens. In the winters she enjoyed tole painting classes. One of the highlights of her life was a trip she took in 1993 to Finland to meet the families of her parents.

A special joy in her later years was spending time with her great-grandchildren, Ashley, Sophie and Jennifer, and she was especially looking forward to the arrival of Hannah from Bulgaria.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brother, Paul.

She is survived by her daughter, Janet and husband, Patrick Barrett of Cody; son, Donald of Las Vegas; special daughter-in-law, Carla Fowles and husband, Arden of Milford, Utah; grandchildren and spouses, John Barrett, Jeanne and Steve Majusiak, Joyce Barrett and Don Wolff, Julie and Fred Snelson, Patrick Barrett, Janine and Mark Kennedy, Dawn Puhto; great-grandchildren Jennifer Fowles, Ashley Majusiak, Sophie Kennedy and Hannah Snelson.

She will be greatly missed by all of those who loved her sweet and cheerful spirit.

Services will be Wednesday, July 28, at 2 p.m. at Ballard Funeral Home in Cody.
