George F. Kraft
WORLAND, Wyo. - George F. Kraft, 70, died Monday, Aug. 16, 1999, of a heart attack.
Visitation will be 7:30-9 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 19, at the Veile Mortuary and noon-2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 20, at Zion Lutheran Church. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the church with cremation to follow. Interment of cremated remains will be at a later date in Monument Hill cemetery in Thermopolis.

Arlo Lopez
HYSHAM - Arlo Lopez, 65, of Hysham, died Sunday, Aug. 15, 1999, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident west of Forsyth.
Rosary will be recited at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 19, at the Beals Mortuary Chapel in Forsyth. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with interment will be in the Forsyth Veterans cemetery.

Christie Ann Mattheus
GRESHAM, Ore. - Christie Ann Mattheus, 53, formerly of Cody, Wyo., died July 27, 1999, in Gresham.
Memorial graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 23, at Riverside cemetery in Cody. Ballard Funeral Home of Cody is in charge.

Patricia 'Pat' McKenna
LEWISTOWN - Patricia "Pat" McKenna, 69, of Lewistown passed away Monday evening at the Central Montana Medical Center in the presence of all of her children and her loving and devoted husband, Lyle. She had been ill with chronic lung disease.
Pat was born to Tom and Nell Marley in Bozeman on April 7, 1930. She attended and graduated from Holy Rosary School and shortly thereafter married Lyle McKenna who she shared her life with for the last 51 years. Pat and Lyle ranched near Geyser before settling in Lewistown in 1958. She raised five children, Marinell, Mike, Tom, Sheila and Syd.
Pat had many interests in life and enjoyed boating, skiing, playing bridge, reading, crossword puzzles and politics. She was active in E.S.A. and was a lifetime member of St. Francis Guild of St. Leo's Church, and a member of St. Leo's Catholic Church.
She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who through her love, kindness and wisdom helped shape a wonderful family. Her house was always open to her children's friends and neighbors.
She is survived by her husband, Lyle E. of Lewistown; her daughter, Marinell Burnham and husband, Mark and son, Bryson of Redmond, Wash.; her son, Michael and wife, Kathy and daughters, Erin, Sarah and Marley of Bozeman; her son, Thomas and his wife, Candy and their children, Ryan, Meghan, Robert and Laura of Lewistown; her daughter, Sheila Thomsen and her husband, Paul and their children, Jada, Tyler, Kalli and Courtney of Linn Grove, Iowa; and her daughter, Sydney and her husband, Don Holst and daughter, Lindsey Holst of Missoula; her sisters, Mary Pouliot of Helena, Joann Powell of Longmont, Colo., and Liz Swingle of Bozeman.
Her parents, Tom and Nell Marley, and one son, Kenneth, preceded her in death.
Vigil Services for Patricia "Pat" McKenna will be Wednesday at 7 p.m. and funeral liturgy to be Thursday at 10:30 a.m. in St. Leo's Catholic Church. Inurnment to follow in Mount Calvary cemetery. The Cloyd Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Friends may make memorials to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital and they may be left at the Cloyd Funeral Home.

Frederic C. Megerth
Frederic C. Megerth, 97, passed away Monday, Aug. 16, 1999, at St. John's Lutheran Nursing Home of natural causes.
He was born on Feb. 12, 1902, in Cleveland, Ohio, to Clarence R. and Jessie M. Megerth. After schooling in Cleveland and Lakewood area schools, Fred graduated from Oberlin College in 1925, where he met his future wife, Lillian A. Sample of Glendive, a graduate of the Oberlin Conservatory in 1926. They were married in Minneapolis in 1927, a marriage that lasted 63 years until her death in 1990.
They moved to Missoula in 1936 where he joined his father-in-law in the retail oil business. Later he was associated with several real estate/insurance firms as a salesman until retirement.
In Missoula he was a longtime member of the advisory board of the Salvation Army and awarded the "Others" plaque. He was also an honorary life board member of the Missoula-Mineral County Chapter of Red Cross and also treasurer for several years. Throughout his years in Missoula he remained an active member of the University Congregational Church.
Survivors include sons, Frederic H. Megerth of Spokane, Wash., and Roger S. Megerth and wife, Mary Lou of Billings; grandsons, Mark Megerth and his wife, Beth of Red Lodge and Mike Megerth of Billings; granddaughter, Molly Megerth of Seattle, Wash.; and great-granddaughters, Kialy and Kelsey Megerth of Billings.
Cremation has taken place. Plans for memorial services in Missoula are pending.
Michelotti, Sawyers & Nordquist has charge of arrangements.

Charles R. Metts
CIRCLE - Charles R. Metts, 79, passed away on Aug. 15, 1999, at the Deaconess Medical Center in Billings following heart surgeries.
He was born May 3, 1920, at Circle. His family moved to Roanoke, Va., when he was in grade school returning to Circle when he was in the seventh grade. Charley lived the rest of his life in Circle except during WWII when he served in the army. He was stationed at Fort Knox, Ky., and then with the Occupational Force in Kyoto, Japan.
On May 12, 1941, he married Beverly Sullivan in Wibaux. Charley worked for McCone Electric Co-op, retiring in 1980. He served on the town council in Circle, was a member of the Circle TV Booster Club and American Legion.
Survivors include his wife, Beverly of Circle; two sons, John (Judy) Metts of Artesia, N.M., Randy Metts of Miles City; two daughters, Sheila Logan of Great Falls and Debbie (Hank) Verploegen of Iowa City, Iowa; four sisters, Mary Helen Wingo, Jane (Bill) Bushman and Jody (Bev) Mullins of Roanoke, and Betty (Rex) Gilman of Missoula; a brother, Jerry (Katie) Metts of New Holland, Ohio. Charley had 10 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitations will be held 2-9 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 18, at the Clayton Memorial Chapel in Circle. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 19, at the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Circle with Rev. Fr. Joseph Ponessa of Glendive officiating. Interment will be in the Riverview cemetery. Clayton Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Alice Inger Murdock
SHERIDAN, Wyo. - Alice Inger Murdock, 93, died Friday, Aug. 13, 1999, at Sheridan Manor.
Cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 19, at Kane Funeral Home.

Bessie 'Becky' Peeler
CODY, Wyo. - Bessie R. "Becky" Peeler, 73, died Monday, Aug. 16, 1999, at her home.
Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 18, at Ballard Funeral Home. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 19, at the funeral home with interment in Riverside cemetery.

Robert E. Rennick
GLASGOW - Robert E. Rennick, 68, died Sunday, Aug. 15, 1999, at his home of cancer.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 19, at Bell Chapel with interment in Hillview cemetery in Hinsdale. Bell Mortuary is in charge.

Alvin J. (Al) Rentschler
Alvin J. (Al) Rentschler, 87, of Billings and former Lewistown resident, died Monday evening in Deaconess Medical Center in Billings following a lengthy illness. He was born Sept. 20, 1911, in New Orleans, La., the son of Michal and Catherine (Burns) Rentschler. They moved to Los Angeles, Calif., where he received his education. He then began working in the Los Angeles area. On Sept. 18, 1932, he was united in marriage to Pauline E. Browning in Los Angeles. In 1933 they moved to Gildford and farmed there until 1937 when they moved to Havre. He began working for Railway Express Agency transferring to Lewistown in 1961. He retired in 1963 from REA. He then worked as a custodian at Garfield Elementary School for three years. They continued living in Lewistown at the Eagles Manor. In 1997 he lost his loving wife of 65 years; he then moved Eagle Cliff Manor in Billings.
He was a faithful member of the Assembly of God Churches in Havre and Lewistown for over 60 years.
Al is survived by one son, Alvin E. and his wife, Marilyn of Rochester, Minn.; two daughters, Pat Redekopp of Billings and Doris Kent and her husband, Ron of Rochester; six grandchildren: Beth Rentschler of Pasadena, Calif., Rick Rentschler and his wife, Deb of Waite Park, Minn., Alison Rentschler of Rochester, Carol Tanner and her husband, Tom of Aurora, Colo., Jim Redekopp and his wife, Sara of Hutchinson, Minn., Suzanne Kent of Rochester; and three great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Pat Rentschler of Gardena, Calif., and Edith Lane of Hesperia, Calif.
Besides his wife, his parents and two brothers preceded him in death.
Funeral Services for Alvin (Al) Rentschler will be Friday at 1:30 p.m. in the Cloyd Chapel with interment to follow in the Lewistown City cemetery. The Cloyd Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Friends may make memorials to the Gideon International or the New Life Assembly of God Church of Lewistown and they may be left at the Cloyd Funeral Home.

Lavonne Wickland
ROUNDUP - Lavonne L. Wickland, 77, died Aug. 7, 1999, at the Roundup Memorial Hospital.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 20, at St. Benedict's Catholic Church. Wier Funeral Home is in charge.

Patricia L. 'Pat' Allen
LAUREL - Patricia L. "Pat" Allen, 71, of Laurel entered into eternal rest Sunday, Aug. 15, 1999. She died as the result of a long and courageous battle with cancer at Evergreen Health and Rehabilitation Center in Laurel.
Pat was born in Laurel, Jan. 29, 1928, to Rose and John Allen. She attended Laurel schools and graduated from Laurel High School in 1946. While in high school she worked part-time at Kucera Meat Market. In 1946 she went to work at Price Pharmacy and worked there until her retirement in 1986.
Pat is survived by her sister-in-law, Bea Allen and brother-in-law, Jackson Parker, both of Laurel. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and a longtime friend and companion, Harold Dittrich.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Delores Fruechtl, Lorraine Scoles and Kathleen Parker; two brothers, Jack and Bill Allen.
She enjoyed bowling and golf and was a former member of the Laurel Golf Club and a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Laurel.
Vigil services will be held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 19, 1999, at Smith Funeral Chapel in Laurel. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 20, 1999, at St. Anthony Catholic Church with Rite of Committal in St. Anthony cemetery.

Leif Oscar Anderson
1909-1919
MELVILLE - Leif Anderson passed away Saturday, Aug. 14, at the family ranch north of Big Timber after a brief illness.
He was born on Nov. 6, 1909, at home to Tom and Elizabeth (Krone) Anderson on Rye Creek near Melville. He attended the Settlement School and graduated from high school in Big Timber in 1929.
Leif was a member of the Sweet Grass Sheepherders State Champion Basketball Team in 1929 and as a young man often rode to Melville on horseback for practice. He also played ice hockey with the Melville Longhorns and competed in roping at the Melville Rodeo.
After working on the home ranch for several years he married Gilma Grosfield on June 11, 1938. They established their ranch on Otter Creek where he lived until his death. Although he officially retired in 1984, he continued ranch chores and could often be seen in the summer with his irrigating boots and shovel. His hobby in recent years was the creation of useful household items made from welded horseshoes.
His contributions to the community were many, including serving on the Melville School Board, the Melville Lutheran Church Council, the board of directors of Citizens Bank, and as a director for the Federal Land Bank. He was a lifetime member of the Melville Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his wife, Gilma; his son, David and wife, Mary of Melville, and son, Don and wife, Oddlaug of Havre; three brothers, Kermit, Thorvald, and Carl Anderson of Melville; and sister, Mabel Grosfield, west of Big Timber. He was preceded in death by sister, Ruth Rein of Melville. He is also survived by six grandchildren, including Cathy Squires of Norfolk, Va., Rob Anderson and Deborah Anderson, both of Fremont, Calif., Laura Rowley of Battle Ground, Wash., Lea Moore of Miles City, Leif Paul Anderson of Bozeman; three great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.
The funeral is scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 18, at the Melville Lutheran Church, officiated by Pastor James Holmlund. Burial will follow at the Melville cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Melville Lutheran Church or the Melville Fire Crew, Melville, or to the charity of your choice.

Len Arthun
RINGLING - Len Arthun was born May 15, 1920, in Big Timber, son of Dora and Louis Arthun.
He graduated from Ringling High School and worked and ranched in the Ringling-Wilsall-Clyde Park area all his life. During World War II, he was in the first wave of infantry to land on Omaha Beach in Normandy on D-Day. He died Friday, Aug. 13, 1999, at the family home.
He is survived by his wife, Jerry; son, Bruce and his wife, Ellen; and grandchildren: Adam, Ryan, Alison, and Phallon. He is also survived by his brother, Carl, sisters, Harriet Celar and Verna Stoneberg.
Memorial services will be at American Lutheran Church in Livingston Tuesday, Aug. 17, at 11 a.m.
Cremation has taken place at Dahl Crematory in Bozeman. Memorials may be made in Len's name to the Wilsall cemetery Fund and Gateway Hospice in Livingston, 504 S. 13th, Livingston, MT 59047.

Hattie Elizabeth Ban
TERRY - Hattie Elizabeth Ban, 83, died Thursday, Aug. 12, 1999, at the Prairie Community Nursing Home.
Vigil services were held Sunday in the chapel of Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home with Mass of Christian Burial on Monday at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Interment was in the family lot in the Prairie County cemetery.
