Jessica McBride-Lidholm
Jason Lidholm
MISSOULA - Jessica Anne McBride-Lidholm, age 22, and Jason Erik Lidholm, age 25, died together in an airplane crash near Juneau, Alaska, on Sunday, Aug. 8, 1999.
Jessica Anne McBride-Lidholm was born on June 7, 1977, in Anchorage, Alaska. She spent most of her life in Billings, and graduated from Billings Senior High School in 1995, and was a National Merit Scholarship finalist. Jessica was attending the University of Montana and was a member of Delta Gamma sorority and was an advocate of U of M. She was due to receive her degree in Anthropology in December 1999, and planned to attend medical school.
Jason E. Lidholm was born in Rolla, Mo. on March 5, 1974. He graduated from Juneau High School in 1992. Upon graduating, Jason entered military basic training and was attached to the 82nd Airborne at Fort Bragg, N.C. Jason was attending the University of Montana on an ROTC scholarship, majoring in Photojournalism. He was anticipating completing his degree in December 1999, and planned to be commissioned as an officer in the United States Army following graduation.
These two beautiful young people were united in Holy Matrimony May 21, 1999, at the First Congregational U.C.C. in Billings. They had been working in Alaska for the summer.
Jessica succeeded in almost everything she tried. She would set a goal, and after that, nothing could get in her way. She experienced every minute of life to its utmost, wanting to know everything and everybody. Her loyalty to her friends and family was matched only by the dedication she was able to espouse in them. Somehow, though, she was never quite fulfilled or satisfied. It was as if something was missing. That missing portion of Jessica turned out to be Jason Lidholm.
Wherever Jason went, he left a wake of people smiling. He was somewhat shy at first, but even as "the quiet one in the back, " his boyish charm disarmed everyone he met. His unmatchable zest for life was evidenced in his ability to master anything he tried. When Jason did something, he did it well. Whether he was in the military or school or the Civil Air Patrol, he found himself leading others. Despite all these endearing qualities, Jason never dated much; it was as if he was waiting for someone.
Introduced by Jason's sister, Jayne, in late 1997, the two fell madly in love and were engaged within six months. Jason was a man's man, and Jessica was a girly-girl. Somehow, they were the perfect match. He taught her patience, and she taught him responsibility. Truly a match made in heaven, through each other, they were complete.
Jessica is survived by her parents, Byron and Carole McBride; brother, Jeffrey; sister, Jamie; and grandmother, Nancy Singer, all of Billings.
Jason is survived by his parents, Gary and Juanita Lidholm of Haines, Alaska; sister, Jayne of Missoula, Mont., and grandfather, Vincent Lidholm.
This couple will be forever remembered for their joyous love and commitment to each other and their families. A memorial celebration will be held Tuesday, Aug. 17, at 7 p.m., First Congregational U.C.C. of Billings. Memorials may be made to the Jessica-Jason Lidholm Memorial Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 20652, Billings MT 59104.

James A. Poore III
MISSOULA - James A. Poore III passed away in Seattle, Wash., on Aug. 11, 1999. He was 56 years of age. He had successfully battled leukemia for more than 23 years, including a bone marrow transplant in 1989. He died of complications resulting from treatment for an unexpected recurrence of the disease.
He is survived by his loving wife and law partner, Shelley Hopkins Poore of Missoula. He is also survived by his two sons, James A. Poore IV, daughter-in-law, Kathy, and grandson, Alexander James Poore, and Jeffrey Scott Poore, all of whom reside in Rochester, N.Y. His brother, Dr. George Poore and family of Jackson, Wyo., and his sister, Elizabeth Wadsworth and family of Lolo also survive him. His parents are James A. Poore Jr. and Jesse Wild Poore, currently residing at Flathead Lake. He is also survived by his uncle and aunt, Robert A. Poore and Pauline Wild Poore of Butte, his uncle and aunt, John and Muriel Wild of Helena, and numerous cousins.
Poore embraced life with passion, living each day fully. He never wondered why he should bear any burdens, he simply worked with quiet determination to make life as good as it could be. After his bone marrow transplant, while speaking to a survivors' reunion in Seattle, he said that all that he had endured during his transplant was worth it for each single day of life. While enjoying frequent special times, he often said to his wife, "It doesn't get much better than this." His love of the law, beautiful cars, a small black cat, and the water which surrounded his life in Missoula, at Flathead, and in Maui, was surpassed only by his unconditional love for his wife, his family and his friends. His humility, loyalty, generosity, gentleness, and subtle wit were gifts cherished by all who knew him. The extraordinary courage, perseverance, and spirit with which he lived and confronted his disease were both a wonder and an example matched by few.
Poore was born and raised in Butte, graduating from Butte High School in 1961. He received a B.A. from Stanford University in 1965 and a J.D. with honors from The University of Montana in 1968. He was admitted to practice in state and federal Montana courts, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the United States Supreme Court.
Poore enjoyed a successful practice for 31 years. After clerking during law school for the Missoula firm of Garlington, Lohn & Robinson, he began his practice at his grandfather's law firm, with his father and uncle, in Butte. He was a partner in the firm now known as Poore, Roth & Robinson, P.C. until 1996. Recently, he was proud to have successfully begun his own practice in Missoula. He represented many high profile clients in complex litigation and arbitration.
Poore was a litigator but also a scholar of the law. He was a contributing editor to the Montana Law Review while in law school and had recently published two articles in the Review. He authored "Water Law: Recognition of a Public Water Right" in 1967 and "Introduction to the Montana Business Corporation Act" in 1968. His scholarship continued with "The Constitution of the United States Applies to Indian Tribes" published in 1998, followed by "The Constitution of the United States Applies to Indian Tribes: A Reply to Professor Jensen" published in 1999. Also, Poore was the Montana contributing editor to the "Product Liability Desk Reference" published by Aspen Publishers.
He co-authored a paper for the Rocky Mountain Mineral Law Institute, "Natural Resource Damage Actions Under CERCLA" and presented the paper at a RMML conference in 1990. He also was an instructor for a week-long course on the Management of Hazardous Substances for RMML in 1992. He spoke at numerous other legal seminars during his practice.
He was proud to be listed in several editions of "Who's Who." Poore was honored to be a Life Fellow of the American Bar Foundation. He was a member of the American Bar Association, the State Bar of Montana, the Western Montana Bar Association, the American Judicature Society, Phi Delta Phi, and the Rocky Mountain Mineral Law Institute. He often said how much he loved the practice of law.
Pro bono work was a constant part of his practice. He quietly accomplished significant and generous work for individuals and organizations who could not afford his fees. He recently completed work on two such projects.
Poore was a longtime supporter of the School of Law at The University of Montana. He and others in his family contributed to the 1978 School of Law and Law Library Expansion Project. For the last several years he and his wife contributed to the Jameson Law Library. Last year, Poore and his wife dedicated a new law seminar room. The plaque honoring this donation reads: "We dedicate this room to all students of the Law." Also, Poore was a frequent competition team judge at the School of Law.
A scholarship in his honor has been established at the School of Law. Memorial gifts may be made to the James A. Poore III Law Student Scholarship through The University of Montana Foundation, P.O. Box 7159, Missoula, MT 59807.
A memorial service celebrating his life will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 20, 1999, at the Castles Center, in the lower level of the Law Library at The University of Montana School of Law.
