GLENDIVE - Harold A. Sterhan, 75, died Wednesday, Aug. 4, 1999, at the Glendive Medical Center.
At his request, no services are planned. Silvernale-Silha Funeral Home was in charge.

George Henry Herden
STORY, Wyo. - George Henry Herden, 70, died Monday, Aug. 1, 1999, at his home.
Graveside services will be at noon on Thursday, Aug. 5, at the Elks cemetery. Kane Funeral Home is in charge.

Joan Marie Holden
COOS BAY, Ore. - Cremation rites have been held for Joan Marie Holden, 58, of Coos Bay, under the direction of Nelson's Bay Area Mortuary.
She was born Nov. 5, 1940, in Billings, Mont., the daughter of Sanford T. and Ernestine M. (Henman) Eggart. She passed away Aug. 1, 1999, at Coos Bay. She was raised and educated in Lodge Grass, Mont., and moved to California to work after graduating from high school.
She was married to John Palmer Holden on June 2, 1961, at Glendale, Calif. While they made their home in many parts of the county for the next 20 years while John served in the Navy and Joan served as a Navy wife, Coos Bay was always their "homeport." She was a Navy ombudsman for many years and kept very busy helping others, being a mother, supporting her husband's career, and volunteering. She was a member of the PTA, Mare Island Sailing Club, and had been involved in 4-H when she was younger. They lived in Napa, Calif., for 20 years before returning to Coos Bay last year.
She loved to work in her garden, collect recipes and salt and pepper shakers, and she enjoyed reading.
She is survived by her husband, John Palmer Holden of Coos Bay; son, John S. Holden of Santa Clara, Calif.; daughter, Alexiss Anne Holden of Coos Bay; aunt, Zelma Schaubel of Hardin, Mont.; uncle, Edward Henman of Billings; and a sister, Mary Jean Burnes of Silver Spring, Md. A brother, Gilbert Lee Eggart, preceded her in death.
Arrangements are under the direction of Nelson's Bay Area Mortuary, (541) 267-4216.

Donald L. Jensen
HINSDALE - Donald L. Jensen, 75, died Jan. 5, 1999, in Tucson, Ariz.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 7, at the Hinsdale Legion Hall with interment in the Hillview cemetery. Bell Mortuary of Glasgow is in charge.

Amelia Staley Peterson
Amelia Staley Peterson, 65, of Billings, died Tuesday, Aug. 3, 1999, at Aspen Meadows. She was born in Laurel, July 26, 1934, a daughter of Henry and Elizabeth Staley. She was married to Warren Peterson and had two sons, Tony and Mark.
Survivors include her son, Mark and his wife, Marko; grandchildren, Justin, Timothy and Andy; two brothers, Hank and Herman Staley; and sister, Clara Hartung. She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Tony; brother, Rheiny; and three sisters, Lydia, Esther and Pauline.
Cremation will be held. Her ashes will be scattered with son Tony's ashes. Memorials may be sent to Big Sky Hospice, P.O. Box 35033, Billings, MT 59107. Arrangements were made by Cremation or Funeral Gallery and Cremation Society of Montana.

Kathryn Ruff
A memorial service for Kathryn Ruff will be held on Sunday, Aug. 8, at Travel Café at 313 N. Broadway from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Gerald S. 'Jerry' Spalding
LIVINGSTON - Gerald S. "Jerry" Spalding, 50, died Saturday, July 31, 1999, at his home.
Memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 4, at the Latter Day Saints Church on the corner of Main and Summit with interment in Mountain View cemetery. Cremation or Funeral Gallery and Cremation Society of Montana were in charge.

Myron Ray Tucker
HELENA - Myron Ray Tucker, 55, formerly of Ekalaka, died Sunday, Aug. 1, 1999, at St. Peter's Hospital.
Viewing will be 11 a.m.-8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 4, at the Retz Funeral Home. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 5, in the funeral home chapel with interment in the Forestvale cemetery.

Walter J. Bourke
LEWISTOWN - Walter J. Bourke, 88, formerly of Hobson, died Monday, Aug. 2, 1999, at Valle Vista Manor of natural causes.
Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 5, at Philbrook cemetery in Hobson. The Cloyd Funeral Home is in charge.

Donald R. Candlin
Donald R. Candlin, age 80, of Billings, formerly of Bridger, died Sunday, Aug. 1, 1999, at his home in Billings.
He was born Feb. 22, 1919, at Rock Springs, Wyo., to Percival and Frankie (Crie) Candlin. He moved with his family to Gering, Neb., at a young age where his father worked for the Great Western Sugar Company. The family then moved in 1926 to Bayard, Neb., where Don received his education, graduating from Bayard High School in 1937. Following graduation he attended the University of Nebraska, returning home to Bayard to care for his mother and younger sister following the accidental death of his father.
He married Margaret Lee, Sept. 7, 1941, in Bayard. To this marriage were born two children, a son, Donald Lee of San Jose, Calif., and a daughter, Gail Helen of Westport, Conn. Don entered the U.S. Army Medical Corp in January 1942 and served in France, returning home in April of 1945 at which time he went to work for the Scottsbluff Co. Weed District. In the spring of 1946 he moved his family to the George Lee Farm at Bayard. After farming for four years he went to work for Great Western Sugar Company for which he worked for 33 years. In 1951 he was transferred to Broadwater, Neb., and in 1954 he was transferred by the company to Bridger as agriculturalist until his retirement in 1980.
Don had been a member of the United Methodist Church all his life. He was a former member of the Bridger Lions Club and was a present member of Bayard Lodge No. 301, A.F. & A.M., Bayard; the Scottish Rite Bodies and Al Bedoo Shrine, both of Billings. He served on the board of directors to the Bank of Bridger for 25 years.
Don is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Margaret; his sister, Helen Patterson and her husband, John of Carlsbad, N.M.; son, Lee and his wife, Adrienne of San Jose; daughter, Gail of Westport; two granddaughters, Kimberly (Arthur) Castillo and Heather (Troy) Vargas of Sparks, Nev.; and five great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 4, at the Bridger United Methodist Church. Interment will follow at the Bridger cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at Smith's West Chapel in Billings.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to Big Sky Hospice, P.O. Box 35033, Billings, MT 59107 or Bridger United Methodist Church.

Constant Debuf
SHAWMUT - Constant Debuf, 93, of Shawmut, passed away Saturday, July 31, 1999, at his home. Con was born Nov. 13, 1905, near Marshall, Minn., to Camill and Marie Debuf.
Camill purchased land northeast of Shawmut and moved his family there in 1916. Con spent his entire life on the ranch. He and his brother Albert raised some of the finest red Angus cattle in the country. His many nieces and nephews were happy to see him at birthdays, his wallet always full of two dollar bills.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and one sister. Survivors include two brothers, Gerard of Ryegate and Julius of Harlowton; a sister, Mary Willems of Florida; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Rosary will be held 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 3, 1999, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Harlowton. Funeral Mass will be held 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 4, 1999. Interment will be held in the Harlowton Catholic cemetery. Memorials may be given to Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in care of Jean Lynn or the memorial of your choice.
Perkins Funeral Home arranged the services.

Elsie Eaglelite
LODGE POLE - Elsie Eaglelite, 92, died Monday, Aug. 2, 1999, at the Northern Montana Hospital of natural causes.
Wake services will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 4, at the Medicine Bear Lodge. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 5, at the lodge with interment in the Lodge Pole cemetery. Adams Funeral Home of Malta is in charge.

Barbara A. Feller
LAUREL - Barbara A. Feller, 93, of Laurel, formerly of Hardin, passed away Sunday evening, Aug. 1, 1999, in the Evergreen Nursing Home in Laurel.
She was born June 23, 1906, in Dickinson, N.D., a daughter of Joseph and Christina Schaak Mitchell. She grew up and attended schools in North Dakota.
Barbara married Anton Feller on Feb. 15, 1926, in St. Xavier, and the couple made their home on the family farm near St. Xavier, until moving to Hardin in 1950. Mr. Feller died in 1965.
She was a member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church and the St. Catherine's Circle. She was an excellent cook who loved to play cards with her family and friends.
Barbara was preceded in death by one son, Harry; one sister and two brothers. Survivors include seven daughters, Elizabeth Feller and Dorothy Stark of Laurel, Mary Patterson of California, Betty Gancze of Absarokee, Cathy (George) Peters of Columbus, Barbara (Jim) Wilkinson of Hardin and Christina (Jay) Richard of Colorado; five sons, Edward (Betty), Louis (Diania) and Mike Feller of Billings, Joe (Verlene) of Hardin and Jim (Helen) Feller of California, one brother, Adam Mitchell of Arizona; three sisters, Isabelle Braun of Washington, Maggie and Katie Mitchell of California; 34 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Rosary will be recited 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Bullis Funeral Chapel. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. Thursday in the St. Joseph Catholic Church. Interment will follow in the Fairview cemetery. Bullis Mortuary of Hardin has been entrusted with the arrangements.
Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Joseph Catholic Church, Hardin, MT 59034.

Verna E. Ferguson
PLENTYWOOD - Verna E. Ferguson, 80, died Sunday, Aug. 1, 1999, at the Sheridan Memorial Nursing Home.
Services will be at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 4, at the Plentywood Lutheran Church with interment in the Plentywood Memorial cemetery. Fulkerson Funeral Home is in charge.

Dale Magnus Fries
STOCKTON, Calif. - Dale Magnus Fries, 78, beloved husband of the late Osie Fries, passed away July 31 in Stockton. Loving father of Jim Fries and wife, Judy, both of Fernly, Nev.; Carol Christensen and husband, Lynn, both of Great Falls, Mont.; Stewart Fries and wife, Lynne, both of Salvang; Terri McKenney and Christine Fries, both of Rock Springs, Wyo.; Edna Myers and husband, Glen, both of Meeteetse, Wyo.; Eva Wagner and husband, Tom, both of Lovell, Wyo.; Robert Sell and wife, LaVonne, both of Green River, Wyo.; Osie Beth Lyon of Cody, Wyo.; and Curtis Sell and wife, Keri, both of West Valley City, Utah. Dearest brother of Guy Fries of Binkleman, Neb., Rodney Fries and Bob Jones, both of Rapid City, S.D. Grandfather of 22, preceded in death by three grandchildren. Dale was a consulting and contracting engineer for Harris & Associates for over 15 years. He was native of Binkleman.
Friends are invited to attend funeral services Wednesday, Aug. 4, at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of the Wallace-Martin Funeral Home, 520 N. Sutter St., Stockton.
Visitation hours are 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Tuesday Committal is in Stockton Rural cemetery.

Robert B. 'Scotty' Graham
TOWNSEND - Robert B. "Scotty" Graham passed away July 24, 1999, in Miles City, where he had been a patient. Robert was born Aug. 24, 1924, in Butte, to William B. and Ivy M. Graham.
Robert attended grade school in Butte and Basin. He went to Broadwater High School until he enlisted in the Marine Corps. Robert served in the South Pacific during World War II and was wounded while fighting in Okinawa. He was awarded the Bronze Star.
After returning home to Townsend, he married Carmen Welch and they were blessed with two sons, William Scott and Robert Cole Graham.
The family later moved to Billings where he worked for Montana Power Company for several years. They later moved back to Townsend and also lived a few years in Hardin.
Besides his two sons, Scott and Cole, and wife, Coral, he is survived by brother, James Graham and wife, Wilma Graham; two grandsons, Brandon and Bruce; two granddaughters, Brandi and Arliss; nieces, Teresa and Paula; nephews, Art, Ron, Harry, Paul and Jimmy; great-nieces, Christy, Roni and Danelle; and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William Bruce and Ivy May; brother, Paul; and nephew, James P. Graham.
Robert's last few years were spent in Townsend where he has many, many friends. He was very loved and will be greatly missed.
A Memorial will be held at the Legion Hall in Townsend at 2 p.m. Aug. 3, 1999, with Rev. Rob Gohl officiating. There will also be a celebration of Scotty's life at the Mint Bar in Townsend, Aug. 14, 1999.

Rose Jensen Grover
Rose Jensen Grover, 96, of Billings, passed away Sunday afternoon, Aug. 1, 1999, at Parkview Convalescent Center in Billings. She was born July 29, 1903, in Montpelier, Idaho, the youngest of four children to Theodore Edward Jensen and Nancy Roella Stevens.
Rose was raised in Montpelier until her marriage to Gerald F. Cummings. Out of this marriage she had a son, Gerald F. Cummings Jr. Her second marriage was to Harold Vance Grover on April 1, 1930. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Lenore Grover in May of 1932, her husband, Harold Grover on Aug. 21, 1974, and two grandchildren, Gayle and Robert Nixon.
Rose was a great cook, who could make the best candy in the world. She was also an excellent seamstress, artist, and piano player. She was employed at Baumgartner Photo Studio, and later worked in the Treasurer's office for the city of Billings when Myrna McNeil was the city treasurer. After retirement, she was a member of the Senior Citizen's Center until moving to Parkview Care Center.
Survivors include her son, Gerald Cummings Jr. of Sparks, Nev.; her daughters, Norma and Bob Gram of Palm Desert, Calif., and Joanne Nixon of Billings; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Her family wishes to express their great appreciation for the special care and good friends she made at Parkview Care Center.
Visitation will be held 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 3, at Michelotti, Sawyers & Nordquist, 1001 Alderson Ave. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 4, at the Sixth Street and Avenue D LDS Chapel with interment in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
