Joseph 'Joe' Wagner
Joe Wagner, 71, of Billings, passed away peacefully in his sleep, at home on Tuesday, Sept. 28, 1999, after a long battle with heart disease. He was born in Billings on Jan. 22, 1928, the only son of Joseph and Mayme Wagner.
He graduated from Billings Senior High School in 1945. In 1949, he met the love of his life Mary Jayne Pryde and they were married in Billings on Sept. 4, 1950. Not long after their marriage, Joe was drafted and sewed in the U.S. Army from 1950-1952. After returning, Joe attended Billings Business College and began his career in the farm implement industry working for International Harvester Co. and Parker-Montana Co. In 1975, he began Great Plains Marketing and was currently employed by Countryside Marketing.
He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He loved music, dancing and traveling. He grew up playing in his parents' band and later formed his own band, The Skylarks. He was a member of the American Legion and the Elks Club where he and his wife, Mary Jayne enjoyed dancing. Joe's love of travel took he and his wife around the world. He was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church in Billings. He was a kind, generous man and loved by all who knew him and will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Jayne; his four children: Mary Jo (Dodie) Wagner of Billings, Susan Wagner of Denver, Colo., Robert Wagner of Denver, Richard (Trish) Wagner of Anaconda.; his sister-in-law, Helen Pryde of Red Lodge; five grandchildren: Gregory Kehm, Laura Knipp of Billings, Lucas, Rachel and Jackson Wagner, all of Anaconda; and one great-grandson, Matthew Ballew.
Cremation has taken place and funeral mass will be held at St. Pius X Catholic Church on Thursday, Sept. 30, at 10:30 a.m. Graveside service will be at Holy Cross cemetery immediately following.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, 2812 First Ave. N., Billings, MT 59101.

Mildred Fay Warfel
LOVELL, Wyo. - Heavenly father received an angel on Sept. 26, 1999. Mildred Fay Warfel was born on Dec. 13, 1917, to Jane and William Weidman in Roberts, Mont. She attended Joliet schools and married George S. Warfel on Aug. 3, 1935. They lived in Montana for many years then moved to the Big Horn Basin in Wyoming.
Mildred was a cook at the school in Hyattville, a clerk at the Ben Franklin Store in Greybull and worked for many years as a dispatcher for the Big Horn County Sheriff's Department.
Her son, David and wife, Sandi of Greybull, Georgia Fay Struck and husband, George of Rock Springs, and Sharon Sanders and husband, Merrill of Cody survive her. Surviving grandchildren are DaNae Good, DaNette Vigil, Dan Struck, Bonnie Legerski, Terri Struck, Susan Nichols, David Struck, Sherrill Sorensen, Mark Sanders, Lori Toney, Scott Sanders, Brent Sanders and 24 great-grandchildren.
Three sisters, Jane Mann, Viola Masterson and Violet Kittsmiller also survive her. Her parents, two brothers and four sisters preceded her in death. Our loving mother was a real lady and will be remembered for her kind nature.
At her request, no funeral services will be held and cremation has taken place. The family requests that memorials be sent to the Ronald McDonald House or to the charity of their choice.

Ivan Russell Abell 'Coyote'
RED LODGE - Ivan Russell Abell "Coyote", 57, of Red Lodge, formerly of Hardin, died peacefully at home on Monday, Sept. 27, 1999, surrounded by his family. He had fought a long and difficult battle with cancer.
Ivan was born on Feb. 5, 1942 in Hardin, a son of Fred and Abbie Abell. He was raised and educated in Hardin and graduated from Hardin High School in 1960.
On March 25, 1962, he married Phylis Flack. Ivan worked for his father at Abell's Plumbing & Heating in Hardin from 1961 until the early 1970's, when he purchased the business. In 1990 Ivan moved to Red Lodge, where he owned and operated Beartooth Plumbing until the past year when illness forced his retirement.
Ivan was a member of Beartooth Elks Lodge #534 of Red Lodge. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and creating things with his hands.
Survivors include two sons, Randy Abell of Red Lodge, and Roger (Rhonda) Abell of Belfry; one daughter, Julie (Bob) Lee of Red Lodge; eight grandchildren: Matt and Tycona Lee; Steven, Stephanie and Brandon Abell; and Alicia, Jake and Samantha Abell; his parents of Billings; two sisters, Verna (Leroy) Uffelman of Hardin, and Vera (Gary) Schaff of Billings; one brother, Dale (Sandi) Abell of Billings; special friend, Kathleen Nording of Red Lodge; and his dog and best friend, Buddy.
A memorial gathering will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 2, at Ivan's home, 333 E. Sixth St. in Red Lodge. Cremation has taken place, with the Olcott Funeral Chapel in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be given to the family for distribution to Cancer Treatment Center of America.

Troy Duane Bleecker
RED LODGE - Troy Duane Bleecker, 33, died Saturday, Sept. 25, 1999, as a result of a three-vehicle accident near Silesia.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 30, at the Olcott Funeral Chapel.

Brian Daniel Edwards
Our world lost a good man Saturday, Sept. 26, 1999. Brian Daniel Edwards died in an encounter with a moose while camping with his family near Red Lodge.
Brian was born in Butte, Feb. 3, 1957. He attended schools in Missoula and Billings, graduating from Billings West High in 1975. Upon graduation, he attended St. Paul Bible College where he met his beloved wife and best friend, Peggy Jean Nicholson. They raised one daughter, Julie, the greatest pride and joy of their lives. Brain later graduated with a degree in Art Education from Eastern Montana College. Brian's greatest passions in life were his family, his work, his art, and his music.
Brian worked as a carpenter and a meat cutter before becoming employed at Kon's IGA for 10 years. At age 40, Brian decided to begin anew. He took a job with Williams Plumbing and moved his home and family to Bozeman. He was proud of his home and his work in Bozeman and had just finished his course work for his journeyman's license. Brian was greatly looking forward to his daughter's marriage next March.
Brian is survived by his wife, Peggy of Bozeman; his daughter, Julie and her fiancÈ, Jeff Urso of San Jose, Calif.; father, James M. Edwards of Billings; three brothers, Mark (Barbara) of Iron Mountain, Mich., Kevin (Cheryl) of Billings, Bradley (Diane) of Billings; brothers and sisters-in-law, George (Kelly) Nicholson of Burlington, Wyo., Nancy (Dean) Johnson of Johnstown, Colo., Jerry (Monica) Nicholson of Burlington, Jim (Sarah) Nicholson of Cody, Wyo., Mary (Cleve) Kingen of Keyes, Okla.; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at the First Alliance Church, 1835 Central Ave., at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 29, with a potluck to follow services.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to: Carbon County Search and Rescue, P.O. Box 230, Red Lodge, MT 59068, or the Billings Lions Club Foundation, P.O. Box 25, Billings, MT 59101. Michelotti, Sawyers & Nordquist has charge of arrangements.

Beatrice 'Bea' M. Flekkerud
GLENDIVE - Beatrice "Bea" M. Flekkerud, 83, died Sunday, Sept. 26, 1999, at the Glendive Medical Center.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 30, at the Zion Lutheran Church with interment in the Dawson Memorial cemetery. Silvernale-Silha Funeral Home is in charge.

Charles 'Chuck' Gehringer
CIRCLE - Chuck Gehringer, 53, of Circle, died Sept. 26, 1999, after a short illness, at McCone County Hospital in Circle.
He was born in Minot, N.D., Aug. 25, 1946, the son of Charles and Waleria Gehringer. Chuck was raised and educated in Mohall, N.D., graduating from high school in 1964. He also attended college in Minot and Fargo.
Chuck married Sally Meyer on April 12, 1969, in Circle. He lived in the Circle-Glendive area since 1972, working at the Travelers Inn and Mid-Rivers Telephone Co-op. He was an agent of Farmers Union Insurance of Circle since 1987.
Chuck touched all he knew with his ready wit, kindness, and ability to visit with his big circle of friends and relatives. He enjoyed barbecuing, playing cards, and especially his children, grandchildren, and his wife "Ol' Sal."
Survivors include his wife of Circle; two daughters, Shelley and husband, Skip Kurk of Billings, and three grandchildren: Kylee, Bailee, and Garrett; and Kristin and fiancÈ, Paul Linson of Fargo; his mother, Waleria, a sister, Louise Larson, both of Kenmare, N.D.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Chuck was preceded in death by his father in 1984.
A vigil service will be held at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 28, at the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Circle. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 29, at the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, with Rev. Fr. Leo McDowell officiating. Interment will be in the Riverview cemetery. Clayton Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Dorothy Hash
FISHTAIL - Dorothy Hash, 95, Fishtail, was born Dorothy McDonald to parents Richard McDonald and Evelyn Haskin McDonald. She was born on the family homestead in McDonald Basin, Dec. 11, 1903. She died Sept. 26, 1999, after a lengthy confinement at the Beartooth Manor in Columbus. She was 95 years old.
Dorothy attended schools on Fiddler Creek, in Absarokee, and in Columbus. She graduated from Columbus High School with the class of 1921, and then attended the Billings Normal and the Billings Business College. Dorothy taught in area schools, at Spring Creek, Luther, The Pink School, out of Absarokee, The Lone Pine School, north of Columbus, and the Mystic Lake School.
She also worked as a secretary in the Forest Service Office, Choteau, and went from there to be secretary to the Chief Attorney in the Veteran's Administration at the Fort Harrison Office in Helena. She married Wesley Hash in Butte, on Dec. 17, 1930. They later returned to the family ranch in McDonald Basin, where she spent the last 55 years of her life.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband in 1975.
She is survived by her son, Richard Hash; daughter-in-law, Olivia Hash; one grandson, Ted Hash; three nephews, two nieces, a cousin, and several grand nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are to gather at the Luther cemetery for a graveside service at 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 30, 1999. Reception to follow. Dahl Funeral Chapel Red Lodge is in charge of the services.

Maxine M. Hatfield
FROMBERG - Maxine M. Hatfield, 80, of Fromberg, passed away Sunday, Sept. 26, 1999, at Parkview Convalescent Care Center in Billings.
She was born Feb. 14, 1919, at Loup City, Neb., a daughter of Wes and Blanche Miller. After graduating from high school she married Tony Olheiser and the couple raised four children.
Later Maxine married Chet Hatfield and lived in Riverside, Calif. When Mr. Hatfield passed away she returned to Montana.
Survivors include three children: Mike Olheiser of California, Kaye Olheiser and Annette Edmond of Washington state; three grandchildren and one great-grandchild; a sister: Thelma Richardson of Fromberg; and several nieces and nephews in Montana.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Anita.
Memorial services will be held 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 1, at Smith Funeral Chapel-Laurel. Interment of cremated remains will follow in Rockvale cemetery.

Betty Ann Jones
RED LODGE - Betty Ann Jones, 73, died Saturday, Sept. 25, 1999, as a result of a three-vehicle accident near Silesia.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 30, at the Olcott Funeral Chapel.

William Kukes
WEST FARGO, N.D. - William Kukes, 75, formerly of Sidney, Mont., died Friday, Sept. 24, 1999, at MeritCare Hospital in Fargo.
Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 28, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at West Funeral Home. Additional visitation will be 10-11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 29, at the funeral home. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with interment in Riverside cemetery in Fargo.

Michael J. Laslovich
FORSYTH - Michael John Laslovich, 71 of Forsyth, passed away peacefully in his sleep Monday, Sept. 27, 1999, at his home from cancer.
Michael was born April 18, 1928, in Anaconda, the son of Michael Frank and Mary B. McCarthy Laslovich. Following his graduation from high school in Great Falls, he entered the U.S. Army in 1945. Michael served in the South Pacific prior to serving three tours of combat duty in Korea during the Korean War.
Following his Honorable Discharge from the U.S. Army in 1953, Michael returned to Montana and joined the IBEW as an electrician. He worked various jobs before working in Colstrip from 1972-1986. Michael moved to Harlowton in 1980 while working in Colstrip until moving to Oregon where he continued to work until his retirement in 1991. He returned to Harlowton in 1994 and came to Forsyth in 1999, where he has lived since.
Michael was loved deeply by his family and friends. He enjoyed fishing and hunting. A kind heart and a good provider, Michael had a strong commitment in his life.
He is survived by his loving wife, Donna Mae Laslovich of Forsyth; his daughter, Sandy Sprague and her husband, Roger of Colstrip; his son, Michael A. Laslovich Jr. and his fiancÈe, Kim of Fishkill, N.Y.; his sister, Helen Ramsbacher of Gilbert, Ariz.; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He will be missed by all who loved and knew him.
A vigil will be held 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 29, 1999, at the Beals Mortuary Chapel in Forsyth. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 30, 1999, at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Forsyth. Interment will follow in the Colstrip cemetery. Beals Mortuary of Forsyth is in charge of the services.

Carl Lind
HARDIN - Carl Lind, 82, longtime Big Horn County resident, passed away Sunday, Sept. 26, 1999.
He was born Sept. 17, 1917, in Hardin, a son of William and Mollie Koch Lind. He grew up and attended the nine-mile school north of Hardin. Following his education, he farmed in the north valley.
Carl married Regina Grinsteiner and was later divorced. He later married Jacque Herbel. She preceded him in death.
He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force, served during World War II and received his Honorable Discharge. Following his discharge, he farmed and ranched in the St. Xavier area, retiring in 1981. He loved horses and enjoyed attending horse sales.
His parents, three brothers, two sisters and a stepson preceded him in death.
Survivors include three brothers, Fred (Esther) and John Lind of Hardin, Harold (Kendra) of Libby; two sisters, Mary Frickle of Billings and Pearl (Lawrence) Rider of Hardin; his stepchildren, John Grinsteiner of Billings and Marla Hamilton of Park City. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Bullis Funeral Chapel. Interment with Military Honors will follow in the Fairview cemetery. Bullis Mortuary of Hardin has been entrusted with the arrangements.
Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to the E and R Church of Hardin.

Donald Eugene McLauchlin
RED LODGE - Donald Eugene McLauchlin, 40, died Saturday, Sept. 25, 1999, as a result of a three-vehicle accident near Silesia.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 30, at the Olcott Funeral Chapel.
