Gearldine 'Jerry'Lois Fox
RED LODGE - Gearldine "Jerry" Lois Fox, 72, passed away Sept. 22, 1999. The daughter of Minnie and George Smith, she was born in Powell, Wyo. They moved to Montana, where she lived all her life. Jerry attended school in Hardin, Custer, and Billings.
On March 24, 1946, she married Jake Fox. They lived in Bridger six years, then moved to Red Lodge, where they lived the rest of her life. They had three boys: Stanley, Randy, and Gary. Their lives were taken away early in life. Jerry and Jake operated the Willow Creek Gurnsey Dairy for 20 years, plus farming and raising cattle.

Jerry loved to listen to country music and dancing. She also enjoyed doing crafts. She is survived by her husband, Jake; brother, Ray Smith of Billings; and three sisters-in-law, Kitty Smith of Billings, Dorothy Smith of Laurel, and Esther Smith of Phoenix, Ariz. She had a special place in her heart for their "adopted" grandchildren, Bethany and Sammy George, Dr. Bill and Mary George, and her dear friend, Donna Harris of Joliet. Jerry loved all of you.

She is preceded in death by her mother and father; her three boys, Stanley, Randy, and Gary; her sisters, Betty Grzeskowiak of Billings and Roberta Bellamy of Ashland, Tenn.; her brothers, Paul Smith of Laurel, George Smith, Bob Smith, and Jim Smith, all of Billings.

Memorial Service will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 26, 1999, at Dahl Funeral Chapel Red Lodge. Interment following service at Red Lodge cemetery. Visitation will be 1-4 p.m. Friday, Sept. 24, 1999, at Dahl Chapel Red Lodge. Memorials may be made to American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 2411, Great Falls, MT 59403.

Anna Parker Miller
BEACH, N.D. - Anna Parker Miller, 92, of Beach, formerly of Bridger, Mont., died Wednesday, Sept. 22, 1999, of cancer at her son's home.
Anna May Parker was born on May 22, 1907, in Bridger, the first child and only daughter of Charles John and Iva Bostic Parker. She rode horseback to the Bostic School, and later graduated from Bridger High School.

She married Theodore Ferguson in 1927, and from this union two children were born, Robert and Evelyn. Anna worked at the Post Office and the General Mercantile Store in Bridger to support her children. She sold Christian books in the area, and at this time became a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church. After attending summer school sessions she received her teaching certification, and taught at Billings, Pryor, Missoula and Sheridan, Wyo.

At Sheridan she met and married J.W. Miller in 1950. They moved to the Jordan area where she taught at several Garfield County schools. They later moved to Fromberg where they farmed, and they helped build the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Bridger. After J.W.'s death Anna lovingly cared for elderly people in her home, including family members.

In 1978 she sold the Fromberg farm to her son, Robert, and then resided in Boyd for 10 years. Since that time she has lived with her son and daughter-in-law.

She was preceded in death by her husband, J.W. Miller in 1971; her parents; and five brothers, Walter, George, Ralph, Dude and Jack.

Survivors include her son, Robert (Marlene) Ferguson; her daughter, Evelyn (Melvin) Thomas; eight grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; four stepchildren; and many friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 27, in the Bridger Seventh Day Adventist Church. Interment will be in the Mountain View cemetery at Bridger, with Olcott Funeral Chapel of Red Lodge in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be given to the church.

Lorrene Whetstone Bassett
LOVELL, Wyo. - Lorrene Whetstone Bassett, 85, of Lovell, died Saturday, Sept. 18, 1999, at Mesa Lutheran Hospital in Mesa, Ariz.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 24, at Haskell Funeral Home. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 25, in the Lovell L.D.S. Stake Center with interment in the Lovell cemetery.

Alene G. Beckerman
Alene G. Beckerman, 98, died Monday, Sept. 20, 1999, at Valley Health Care Center.
Alene was born July 18, 1901, at Fort Yates, N.D., the first child of William H. and Delia Glynn.
She was raised at Fort Douglas in Salt Lake City, Utah, and worked there as a clerk for the Veteran's Administration. She was married on Sept. 15, 1930, to William Beckerman. He preceded her in death in 1970.
Survivors are nephews: Don Glynn (Margaret), Martin Glynn (Vonnie) and niece, Valerie Brinkman (Fred), and numerous great-nieces and nephews. Three brothers, Walter, Willis and Val G. Glynn preceded her in death.
Services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at Michelotti, Sawyers & Nordquist. Burial will be in Holy Cross cemetery.

Ruth Dorothy Blomgren
LAUREL - Ruth D. Blomgren, 77, formerly of Missoula, died Wednesday, Sept. 22, 1999, at Evergreen Care Center.
Cremation has taken place and at her request, no services are planned. Michelotti, Sawyers & Nordquist of Billings is in charge.

Jewel G. Cloyd
LIVINGSTON - Jewel G. Cloyd, 78, died Wednesday, Sept. 22, 1999, at her home.
Visitation will be 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 23, at Franzen-Davis Funeral Home. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 24, in the funeral home chapel with graveside committal in Park View Gardens cemetery.

Karl Follett Durfey
BIG TIMBER - Karl Follett Durfey passed away on Sept. 21, 1999, at the Pioneer Medical Center in Big Timber at the age of 88.
Karl was born at Vida, May 7, 1911, the son of Robbie and Louise (Bruhahn) Durfey. He was raised and educated in the Vida area. He married Hazel Christofferson of Paxton on June 2, 1937, in Wolf Point. They made their home on a farm in the Circle-Richey area where they raised their family of six children.
When farming became too thin he spent six years working in the oil fields in Eastern Montana and the next six years in the Farmers Union Elevator in Circle, the last three as manager. From Circle they moved to the Livingston area for the next six years.
They then moved to Yakima, Wash., to retire and build his wonderful wooden horse drawn wagons and sleds.
Although Karl held several jobs he was a cowboy at heart. Five years ago they moved back to Big Timber to be closer to their family.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Robert LeRoy (Roy) and Floyd Alfred (Bud), and a grandson, Richard Brandon Huseby.
Survivors include his wife, Hazel; three sons, James (Louella) of Big Timber, Ronald (Cheryl) of Lewistown, and Gary of Gardiner; three daughters, Patsy Meyer of Yakima, Sharon (Jim) Sturn of Billings and Maria (Gene) Huseby of Circle; his sister, Marian Mossestad of Polson; 25 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
Memorial Services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 25, 1999, at the First Baptist Church (1004 10th Ave.) in Circle.

Lorance 'Jagus' Fast Horse
POPLAR - Lorance "Jagus" Fast Horse, 69, formerly of Brockton, died Tuesday, Sept. 21, 1999, in Poplar from heart failure.
Wake services will be Sunday evening, Sept. 26, at the Brockton Cultural Center with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 27, at the cultural center with interment in Riverside cemetery. Clayton Memorial Chapel is in charge.

Faye LaDean Hill
SHERIDAN, Wyo. - Faye LaDean Hill, 73, died Tuesday, Sept. 21, 1999, at the Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 23, at Kane Funeral Home. Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 24, at the Trinity Lutheran Church.

Bessie Catherine Jernberg
CODY, Wyo. - Bessie Catherine Jernberg, 91, died Tuesday, Sept. 21, 1999, at West Park Long Term Care Center.
Services will be at 3 p.m. Friday, Sept. 24, at Ballard Funeral Home with interment in Riverside cemetery.

Milas R. 'Mike' Johnson
SALT LAKE CITY, Utah - Milas R. "Mike" Johnson, 86, formerly of Byron, Wyo., died Monday, Sept. 20, 1999, in Salt Lake City.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 23, at Haskell Funeral Home in Lovell, Wyo. Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 24, in the Byron L.D.S. Chapel with interment in the Cowley, Wyo., cemetery.

Francis Allen Olson
HELENA - Francis Allen Olson, 76, passed away Tuesday, Sept. 21, 1999, after a two-year battle with colon cancer. He leaves us to join his beloved wife, Alyce, who preceded him in death just four short months ago.
Francis was born May 16, 1923, in Havre, to Felix and Laura Yellowrobe Frogg. In 1928, Laura married David Z. Olson, who adopted Francis and raised him as his own.
Francis grew up in Twin Bridges, where he graduated from high school in 1941. He joined the United States Marine Corps on Jan. 26, 1942. He fought in WWII in the Marshall Islands. On Feb. 19, 1944, he received a Purple Heart from Admiral "Bull" Halsey for wounds received in battle on Antioch Island. Francis was honorably discharged on Sept. 29, 1945.
On Nov. 8, 1944, Francis married his high school sweetheart, Alyce Helen Cuchine. They lived in Bozeman where Francis graduated from Montana State College in 1951 with a bachelor's degree in education. He subsequently went on to receive his master's degree in education in 1956, and his Ph.D. from Montana State University in Secondary School Education in 1976.
Francis started his career in education in 1951, teaching in Ryegate. He was later superintendent of schools in Wilsall and Columbus. In 1967 the family moved again to Bozeman where Francis was junior high school principal and taught classes in education at Montana State University until his first retirement in 1981. That same year, he was chosen by Gov. Schwinden to work in the State Budget office as an analyst.
In 1985, Francis and Alyce moved to Harrison, Idaho, where Francis was superintendent of schools for Kootenai County. He retired (again) in 1987, and he and Alyce returned permanently to Helena. Francis worked part-time at the U.S. Forest Service office in Helena up until his death.
Francis was past president of the Montana Association of Secondary School Principals and an officer of the Montana Education Association. He was also Past Exalted Ruler of the Bozeman Elks Club and an enrolled tribal member of the River Gros Ventre of the Fort Belknap Reservation.
Francis' hobbies included reading, fishing, bowling, camping, and golf, a sport that added extensively to his already expansive vocabulary.
In addition to wife, Alyce, Francis was preceded in death by his parents and his much-loved schnoodle, Muffin.
He is survived by daughters and sons-in-law, Diana and Chris Hahn of Reedpoint, and Lynne and Bill Salisbury of Helena; son, Charles Olson of Omaha, Neb.; grandchildren, Scooter and Caryn Hahn, and Alycia Olson; great-grandchildren, Celeste and Allen Hahn; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and longtime brother-in-law and friend, Fred Madison.
Chapel services will be held at Hagler-Anderson Funeral Home, 650 Logan, Helena, on Friday, Sept. 24, 1999, at 2 p.m. Burial with military honors will follow at Montana State Veterans' cemetery, Fort Harrison. After burial, a reception for family and friends will be held at the home of Lynne and Bill Salisbury, 420 Wallace, Helena.
The family prefers memorials to the Francis A. Olson Graduate Scholarship Fund, 1917 Peosta, Helena, MT 59601, or charity of donor's choice.
Although our hearts are heavy as we let you go, knowing that you and mom are together and happy once again makes that burden easier to bear. Goodbye, Dad, we love and miss you.

Jean Pistorius
Jean Pistorius, 53, formerly of Miles City, died Sunday, Sept. 19, 1999, at her home of lung cancer.
Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 27, at the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd Church in Billings. Additional services will be at 3:30 p.m. Monday at the Trinity Lutheran Church with interment in the Calvary cemetery, both in Miles City. Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home of Miles City is in charge.

Clarence J. Rose
STORY, Wyo. - Clarence J. Rose, 92, of Story, died Tuesday, Sept. 21, 1999, at the V.A. Medical Center in Sheridan.
Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 24, in the Sheridan Municipal cemetery. Ferries Funeral Home of Sheridan is in charge.

Jerry J. Smeltzer
BAKER - Jerry J. Smeltzer, 75, of Baker, died Feb. 11, 1999, at the Mission Hospital in Mission, Texas.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 25, at the Baker Community Church with interment in the family lot in the Bonnievale cemetery. Stevenson's Funeral Home is in charge.

Roy N. Squires
SACO - Roy N. Squires, 53, of Saco, died Monday, Sept. 20, 1999, at the Phillips County Medical Center in Malta of an apparent heart attack
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 24, at the Saco Lutheran Church with graveside services in the Grandview cemetery. Adams Funeral Home of Malta is in charge.
