Duane N. Zinnecker
Duane N. Zinnecker, 65, of Billings, passed away Sunday, Sept. 19, at Billings Deaconess Hospital after a courageous two-month battle with cancer.
Duane was born Nov. 30, 1933, in Lewistown, the fourth child of Leonard and Naomi Zinnecker. He attended Moore public schools for 11 years and graduated from Fergus County High School in 1951. Duane entered the Air Force in November 1952, enjoying flying Pacific and Atlantic routes as an airborne radio operator. Duane married Barbara Lee Simonfy on Aug. 4, 1956.
Duane and Barb worked on the family partnership farm in Central Montana immediately after Duane's discharge from the Air Force. They moved to Billings in 1960, where Duane was the owner/operator of a service station. However, Duane's dream was to farm, so he and Barb returned to Central Montana in fall of 1961 to begin building a successful farming and ranching operation, based in Hobson. After 20 years of living his dream, Duane sold the farm and moved to Billings in 1981. Still wanting to be involved in agriculture, he began his second career as a crop insurance claims adjuster and field representative. Duane retired from this career in 1996 and devoted his time to woodworking, fishing, family and friends.
Duane valued family and friendships. He gave freely of his time and resources, always willing to help those in need. He touched many lives. He will be missed and always be remembered.
Duane was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Naomi, and his brother, Junior (Zip).
Duane is survived by his wife, best friend and lifelong companion, Barbara, and their three children and families. They include: son, Wade and wife, Connie, and grandchildren, Colin and Tara of Minneapolis, Minn.; daughter, Pam of Billings; and daughter, Gayla and fiance, Bob McCutchin of Duvall, Wash.
Duane is also survived by his sisters, Mary Ellen and husband, Walter Brown of Sequim, Wash., Shirley and fiance, Bob Moro of Woodland Hills, Calif.; brothers, Blake and wife, Claudia of Helena and Dean and wife, Pat of Helena.
Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Dahl Funeral Chapel in Billings. A reception will follow at Dahl Funeral Chapel.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.

At the age of two, the family migrated to America settling in Endicott, Wash., where Marie's mother's (Elizabeth Hefenieder) family had previously located. During their farming years three other children were born in the Duck Creek area, they were twins: Marvin and Melvin, and then Marlene. They farmed in the Yellowstone Valley area for several years before moving to the city of Billings in 1943. Mother worked several jobs, as it was war time and the men were off defending our country.
The LaMotte children grew up and were married and grandchildren arrived. At this time mom and dad retired. Mom worked very hard in all her occupations, including her farming years. But nevertheless, she was an accomplished seamstress, including needlework consisting of several beautiful afghans for her children. Her baking and cooking was superb. She could have taught the best chefs. Being an expert farmer, her gardens were as plentiful and beautiful as Eden.

Dr. Robert Neil Whittenberger
Dr. Robert Neil Whittenberger, 75, died yesterday at St. John's Lutheran Nursing Home, after a lengthy illness, which he approached with a goal common to all his life experiences. Dr. Whittenberger was educated in Peru, Ind., public schools, Washington University and Ohio State College of Medicine. He enjoyed a long and distinguished career as a physician and surgeon in Grand Rapids, Mich. Dr. Whittenberger served as a medical missionary for the United Church of Christ in Rhodesia, Africa. Dr. Whittenberger also brought his many talents to a large number of business and community boards.
A curious participant in life, Dr. Whittenberger's other interests were widespread. A member of the Sons of the American Revolution, he also contributed to a large number of historical organizations.
