Elizabeth Marie 'Betty' Steiner
BOZEMAN - Elizabeth Marie "Betty" Steiner was born on the family farm in Regent, N.D., during a blizzard on Jan. 18, 1922. She passed away into the loving arms of her Lord and Savior on Sept. 1, 1999, at the age of 77. Betty was the second of 10 children of Jacob and Rose Kuntz. She attended school in Regent and in Mitchell, S.D., graduating from high school in Eugene, Ore.
Betty and her husband, Mike, met on a blind date and were married on Oct. 8, 1946, in a double wedding ceremony with her sister, Carol, and Mike's brother, Tony,

Betty and Mike lived in Reeder, Bowman, N.D., and Miles City, before settling in Bozeman in 1963. Betty was a loving wife and mother for 53 years, and was very involved with her children while they were growing up. Betty had a deep abiding faith in God and Jesus Christ her Savior, and held her family and children foremost in her heart. She was active in her church, the Catholic Forester's Society, March of Dimes and other community activities. Her hobbies and interests included doting on her grandchildren, baking bread and cinnamon rolls, traveling with her husband and entertaining family and friends. Visitors were always welcomed into her home with homemade food, open arms and a warm smile.

Betty is survived by her loving husband and lifelong companion, Mike, as well as eight children: Patty Steiner of Belgrade, Mark (Carla) Steiner of Bozeman, Joan (Pat) Hensleigh of Bozeman, Roy Steiner of Bozeman, Judy (Duane) Vincent of Wilsall, Marie (Andy) Lowe of Sheridan, Wyo., Mike (Julie) Steiner of Reno, Nev., and Joe (Tana) Steiner of Belgrade.

She was also fortunate to have 15 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren who will miss her loving presence. They are: Wade, Spencer, Brea and Nicholas Steiner, Lisa, Joseph, and Emily Hensleigh, Christen, Frank, Trivia and Elana Vincent and Jake Krum, Alex and Elise Lowe and Asa Steiner. The great-grandchildren are Carlyn and Dustin Tecca and Jaiden Steiner. She is also survived by nine brothers and sisters and 65 nieces and nephews. We will miss you Mom and cherish your loving memory forever.

The family would like to extend a warm thank you to Gallatin Hospice and staff for the gentle and loving care extended to Betty during these past three months. We would also like to thank the staff and friends of Mountain View Care Center.

Prayer vigil will be Friday, Sept. 3, at 7 p.m. at Resurrection Parish. Funeral services will be Saturday, Sept 4, at 11 a.m. at Resurrection Parish. If you wish to provide a donation in lieu of flowers, make donations to Gallatin Hospice.

Leslie W. Billings
CODY, Wyo. - Leslie W. Billings, 89, died Tuesday, Aug. 31, 1999, at West Park Long Term Care Center.
Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 2, at the Ballard Funeral Home. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 3, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Cody Stake Center, with interment in Riverside cemetery.

Francis Emily Brophy
BUFFALO, Wyo. - Francis Emily Brophy, 78, formerly of Wibaux, Mont., died Tuesday, Aug. 31, 1999, at the Amie Holt Care Center.
Visitation will be 1-10 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 2, and 8:30-9:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 3, at Adams Funeral Home Chapel. Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 6, at the Silvernale-Silha Funeral Home in Wibaux with graveside services in the Brophy family cemetery on the family ranch six miles south of Wibaux.

Philip Guzman Jr.
POCATELLO, Idaho - Philip Guzman Jr. passed away Aug. 30, 1999, in his home after battling a long illness.
He was born Sept. 24, 1957, in Billings, to Philip and Naida Guzman and moved to Idaho Falls when he was 12 years old. After marrying Joy Ogden on Sept. 22, 1979, in Topeka, Kan., they moved to Pocatello in 1986. Philip was a master electrician, was a member of Union Local 449 for over 20 years and was a member of NECA.
He was one of Jehovah's Witnesses attending at the Cottage Grove Congregation. He had a great love for people and wished to share his beliefs about God's Kingdom and grand hope for the future.
He is survived by his loving wife, Joy, daughter, Melanie, sons, Andrew, Marc and Aaron of Pocatello; parents, Philip and Naida Guzman, sisters, Pam Graham, Sonja Hall, all of Idaho Falls; sister, Tammy Meyer of Vacaville, Calif., and half-brother, David Guzman of Billings.
The family wishes to express their deep gratefulness for all the kindness and sympathies shown during the course of his illness.
Memorial services will be at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witness at 2785 S. Bannock Hwy. at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 4, 1999.
Donations can be made to Southeastern District Health Services at 1901 Alvin Ricken Drive, Pocatello, Idaho.

Geraldine 'Geri' Hollandsworth
GLASGOW - Geraldine "Geri" Hollandsworth, 80, died Tuesday, Aug. 31, 1999, at the Frances Mahon Deaconess Hospital.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 7, at the First Lutheran Church with interment in Highland cemetery. Bell Mortuary is in charge.

Edith K. Johnson
POWELL, Wyo. - Edith K. Johnson, 79, died Monday, Aug. 30, 1999, at her home.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 4, at the Park County Fairgrounds with interment in Crown Hill cemetery. Miratsky-Easton Funeral Home is in charge.

John Warren Kemper
BELFAIR, Wash. - John Warren Kemper, 81, of Belfair and formerly of Billings, Mont., died Tuesday, Aug. 31, 1999, at Easthaven Villa in Yelm.
Cremation will take place at Woodlawn Funeral Home in Lacey and a private service will be held at Tahoma National cemetery in Kent.

Albert Peter Maus
GOLVA, N.D. - Albert Peter Maus, 74, of Golva, died Monday, Aug. 30, 1999, in Glendive, Mont.
Vigil services will be at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 2, at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 3, at the church with interment in St. Mary's cemetery. Silvernale-Silha Funeral Home of Beach is in charge.

Lawrence Herbert Maus
GOLVA, N.D. - Lawrence Herbert Maus, 90, of Golva, died Tuesday, Aug. 31, 1999, in Glendive, Mont.
Vigil services will be at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 3, at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 4, at the church with interment in St. Mary's cemetery. Silvernale-Silha Funeral Home of Beach is in charge.

Doris Miller
BUFFALO, Wyo. - Doris Miller, 86, died Tuesday, Aug. 31, 1999, at the Amie Holt Care Center.
Visitation will be 1-10 p.m. Friday, Sept. 3, and 9-10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 4, at the Adams Funeral Home. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Willow Grove cemetery.

Audrey Beth Sintek
LOVELL, Wyo. - Audrey Beth Sintek, 65, died Monday, Aug. 30, 1999, at her home of cancer.
Cremation has taken place and graveside services will be held at a later date. Haskell Funeral Home is in charge.

Darren Dean Sjostrom

CUSTER - Darren Dean Sjostrom, 23, of Custer, died of injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident Aug. 31, 1999, near Custer.
He was born Dec. 15, 1975, in Billings, a son of John and Alice Dorn Sjostrom. He grew up and attended schools in Custer, graduating in 1994. While in school he participated in the choir and the band.
Darren was currently the manager and part owner of the Fort Custer Restaurant and Bar near Custer. He loved to water ski, scuba dive and ride horses.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Leo Sjostrom.
Survivors include his parents, John and Alice Sjostrom of Custer; a brother, Dudley of Toston and a sister, Tina of Hardin; his grandparents, Henry and Rosella Dorn of Ballantine and Hilda Sjostrom of Custer. He is also survived by his very special nieces and nephews, Kristle, Whitney, Dana, Derek, Deidra, Delta, Kristina and Katlynn, as well as numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Friday in the Custer High School Gymnasium. Interment will follow in the Custer cemetery. Bullis Mortuary of Hardin has been entrusted with the arrangements.

James St. Peter
MILES CITY - James St. Peter, 76, died Tuesday, Aug. 31, 1999, at the Holy Rosary Health Center.
A special rosary will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 3, in the Ursuline Convent. Vigil services will be at 6 p.m. Friday in the chapel of Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 4, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Rite of Committal in the family lot in the Calvary cemetery.

Rillie M. Taylor
SHERIDAN, Wyo. - Rillie M. Taylor, 96, died Tuesday, Aug. 31, 1999, at the Memorial Hospital of Sheridan County.
Viewing and visitation will be 6:30-8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 2, at Ferries Funeral Home. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 7, in the Sheridan Municipal cemetery.

Ruth Badke
Ruth A. (Alles) Badke, 88, a former resident of Billings and Pompeys Pillar, died Sunday, Aug. 29, 1999, at Heritage Health Care in West Lafayette, Ind. She had been a resident for four days, but had made her home with her son and family in West Lafayette since October 1998.
Born in Glendale, Ariz., on June 18, 1911, Ruth moved with her family to Montana before she began grade school. She spent most of her life in Yellowstone County raising her family and working for different school districts. She married Peter H. Bohl on Dec. 22, 1927. After his death in 1942, she managed their Pompeys Pillar farm for several years.
Ruth worked as a school cook for School District 24 for 10 years and worked as a cook at Rocky Mountain College for three years. For the 15 years before her retirement, she worked as a janitress for School District 2 in Billings.
Ruth was an active member of the Rebekkas and Odd Fellows fraternal organizations and progressed through all stations to serve as Noble Grand and President, respectively. She was a devoted Christian woman who worked in several capacities for her church, including Sunday school teacher and superintendent. For the past several years, she was a member of the West Side Baptist Church in Billings. She enjoyed gardening, crafts, quilting and dancing and loved visiting with her neighbors.
On June 24, 1962, she married Ray Brasmer and he died in 1964. She married Leonard Badke on July 17, 1970, and he died in 1992. Preceding her in death also were a son, James, one granddaughter, Mary, three brothers and four sisters.
Surviving are two sons, Lawrence P. Bohl of West Lafayette and Thomas L. Bohl of Madison, Ohio; a daughter, Donna R. Miles of Severn, Md., 11 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are three sisters: Rae Miller, Hulda Hepler and Esther Holland, all of Missoula
Visitation will be from 12 noon to 9 p.m. Sunday at Michelotti, Sawyers & Nordquist Mortuary. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at West Side Baptist Church with interment in Pleasantview cemetery in Ballantine.

Lila Bales
Lila Bales, 88, of Billings, died Monday, Aug. 30, 1999, at Roundup Memorial Nursing Home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 2, at Evanson-Jensen Funeral Home in Lemmon, S.D., with interment in the Union cemetery at Cedar Butte Township north of Lemmon. Wier Funeral Home is also in charge.

Drago B. 'Jiggs' Damjanovich
Drago B. "Jiggs" Damjanovich, 65, of Billings, died Tuesday morning, Aug. 31, 1999, at St. Vincent Hospital. The son of Blazo and Drage (Vujovich) Damjanovich, he was born in Gebo, Wyo., Aug. 15, 1934.
His family moved to Billings in 1939, where he was raised and educated, graduating from Senior High School in 1954. Following graduation, Jiggs worked for R.L. Stratford and Barry O'Leary, before starting his own construction company. He loved boxing and was a golden glove boxer growing up. He also loved music and enjoyed dancing the polka and playing his harmonica. In addition, Jiggs enjoyed sports and watching football on television. He was a member of St. Nicholas Orthodox Church in Billings. He was preceded in death by his father, Blazo in 1957; his son, Nicholas in 1984; and his sister, Helen Klundt.
Survivors include his mother, Drage Damjanovich of Billings; his children, Shelly Damjanovich of Shepherd, Steve (Ronda) Damjanovich, also of Shepherd, and Matthew and Doug Damjanovich of Denver; his stepchildren, Wayne Goldsberry of Rapid City, S.D., and Michelle Johnson of Billings; his brothers, Peter (Alice) of Ballantine, Vidak of Billings, Milton (Carole), also of Billings, and Richard (Bonnie) of Belgrade; his sisters, Vide Mirich (Nick) of Cheyenne, Wyo., Christina Damjanovich of Billings, Mileva Hudson (Cloyd) of Musselshell, Daisy Carlson (Ben) of Billings, Angie Openshaw of Billings, and Stella Openshaw (Deryl) of Shepherd; his brother-in-law, Verlyn Klundt of San Diego; his grandchildren, Devin and Kendal Damjanovich of Shepherd; and numerous nieces, nephews, and close friends.
Visitation will begin 9 a.m. Thursday at the mortuary. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 3, at Michelotti, Sawyers & Nordquist, 1001 Alderson Ave., with interment to follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be directed to the Shepherd Volunteer Fire Department.

Marie Henrietta Soester Eleson
Marie Henrietta Soester Eleson died Tuesday, Aug. 31, at her home in Billings after a long illness. Daughter of Ralph and Mary (Roby) Soester, Marie was the oldest of three children, including Lila (Soester) Shafer and Stanley Soester. She was born on Aug. 29, 1926, in Crawford, Neb. She graduated from Crawford High School in 1944 and attended Chadron State Teachers' College before taking her first job as a teacher at Hardscrabble School in western Nebraska.
In 1945, she met Irwin James Eleson who became her lifelong partner and best friend. They married in Bethel Church, a rural church out of Whitney, Neb., on June 23, 1945. Their life together has been one blessed by the Christian faith which they both shared, their commitment to God and raising their five children.
Marie was passionately devoted to her faith, her husband, gardening and natural healing. Up until 1998, she worked at the Bonanza Health Food Store in Billings where, over the years, hundreds of customers sought her advice on healing, natural foods and supplements. She was a member of the Prairie View Bible Church and was an active and inquisitive practitioner of the Christian faith, applying these beliefs to her life and relationships with others.
Her husband, Irwin, survives her and will profoundly miss her friendship, companionship and love. She is also survived by five children: a daughter, Linda Fjelstad; a daughter, Cindy Christensen (Denver Christensen); a son, Bill Eleson; a son, Tom Eleson (Cindy Eleson); and a daughter, Charity Eleson (Patrick Donnelly). We will miss her in ways we have not even yet imagined.
She was also fortunate to have had nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren who will miss her quiet and loving presence in their lives. They are: Michele and Harianto Hamid (Audrey, Taylor and Aleksander); Melinda Nolte; Scott Fjelstad; Kim Kent (Rod Kent and Braxton); Lisa Heimbach (Allen Heimbach and MacKenzie and Sadie); Shelley Boucher; Katyana Eleson, Tevis Eleson and Celia Donnelly.
The family would like to extend its warm thanks and deeply felt appreciation to Big Sky Hospice and the staff for their gentle care and respect of Marie throughout the past six months. Also, the family would like to thank the members of Prairie View Bible Church for their care, presence and prayers during this difficult time.
Funeral services will be held this Friday, Sept. 3, at 2 p.m. at the Yellowstone Boys and Girls Ranch Chapel. John Arnold Fink
John Arnold Fink was born on a farm outside Lovell, Wyo., on June 29, 1938. Arnold died at home Sunday, Aug. 29. He was the eldest child of John F. and Georgette B. (Wambeke) Fink. Arnold graduated from Lovell High School in 1956. He moved to Billings shortly after that where he met his sweetheart, Joyce Williams, on a blind date.
They were married on June 7, 1958, in Billings. From this union were born two daughters and one son. Due to ill health, Arnold retired from Gamble Robinson after 25 years of service. Before his retirement, he enjoyed bowling and camping and fishing with his family.
Arnold is survived by his wife of 41 years and his children, Susan and Tim Runkle, Marilyn and Lloyd Pulver, and Jerry Fink; and grandsons, Nathan and Josh Runkle and Josh Pulver. He is also survived by his mother, Sue Fink of Laurel; mother-in-law, Helen Williams of Billings; brothers, Fred, Glenn, Terry and Ted; sisters, Georgette Dillinger, Diana Mydland and Shirley Nash; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father and grandparents.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be sent to Evangelical United Methodist Church, 345 Broadwater, Billings, MT 59101. Services will be held at the Evangelical United Methodist Church on Friday, Sept. 3, 1999, at 1 p.m. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Arrangements were made by Cremation or Funeral Gallery.

Harold B. Fraser
SHERIDAN, Wyo. - Harold B. Fraser, 95, formerly of Decker, Mont., died Monday, Aug. 30, 1999.
At his request, cremation has taken place and no services will be held. Kane Funeral Home was in charge.
