Eddith 'Sis' Staebler
Eddith "Sis" Staebler, 91, died at Valley Health Care Center in Billings on Oct. 16, 1999, after a short illness. Services will be held in Billings at Westpark Village at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 20. Plans for a memorial service in West Yellowstone are pending.
Sis was born on Sept. 20, 1908, in Park City, Utah, to John and Clara Nicholls. She married Roland Staebler in Butte on Nov. 3, 1929. They lived for a time in Butte and Billings before moving to West Yellowstone in 1945 where they owned and operated Staebler Grocery for 21 years. She and Roland moved back to Billings in 1994.
Sis was an active member of the Community Protestant Church and a member of the local chapter of Eastern Star in West Yellowstone for many years. She had a deep love for the mountains of Montana, and especially for the Yellowstone Park area. An avid fisherman, Sis spent much of her free time fly fishing with family and friends on the lakes and blue ribbon trout streams near Yellowstone Park.
Sis was well known for her kindness and generosity to others, as well as her keen sense of humor. She has touched the lives of her family and friends in unforgettable ways, and we thank God for her.
Sis was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and her brother. She is survived by three sisters-in-law: Thelma Prowse of Billings; Lucille Martin of New York City; and Billie Staebler of Salem, Ore. She is also survived by nieces: Corlette Sande of Billings; Lucy Martin--Gianino and Wilhemina Eaken of New York City; Bonnie Staebler of Salem.
Memorials can be made to the Community Protestant Church, Box 277, West Yellowstone, MT 59758; Peacemaker Ministries, 1537 Ave. D, Ste. 352, Billings, MT 59101; or the charity of your choice.
Michelotti, Sawyers & Nordquist is in charge of the local arrangements.

Timothy Max Tippetts
LOVELL, Wyo. - Timothy Max Tippetts, 53, died Sunday, Oct. 17, 1999, at North Big Horn Hospital after a long illness.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 19, at Haskell Funeral Home. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 20, at the Lovell L.D.S. Stake Center with interment in the Lovell cemetery.

Beatrice Ellen Tschida
TUCSON, Ariz. - Beatrice Ellen Tschida, 92, formerly of Golva, N.D., died Thursday, Oct. 14, 1999, in Tucson.
A rosary/vigil will be at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 22, at St. Mary's Church in Golva. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 23, at the church with interment in St. Mary's cemetery. Silvernale-Silha Funeral Home of Beach, N.D., is in charge.

Carolee Wallem
GLASGOW - Carolee Wallem, 65, died Saturday, Oct. 16, 1999, at Frances Mahon Deaconess Hospital of natural causes.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 21, at First Lutheran Church with interment in Highland cemetery. Bell Mortuary is in charge.

Dorothy Ostwald
PRINCETON, Minn. - Dorothy Ostwald, 69, formerly of Billings, Mont., died Saturday, Oct. 16, 1999, at Fairview Northland Regional Hospital.
A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 19, at Williams-Hanson-Kaun Funeral Home, in Princeton, with interment in Sunset Memorial Gardens in Billings at a later date.

Rose M. Ludwig
LAUREL - Rose M. Ludwig, 77, of Laurel, passed away Saturday, Oct. 16, 1999, at the Laurel Evergreen Health Care Center.
She was a daughter of Thomas and Zura Whiteback Rice, born March 1, 1922, at Bellingham, Wash. She married Peter Ludwig at Terry, on July 25, 1938.
Rose was preceded in death by her husband, Pete, in 1966, and nine brothers and sisters.
Survivors include one son, Tom Ludwig and his wife, Judy of Laurel; two grandchildren, Michael Ludwig and his wife Lori of Laurel, SallyAnn Jones and her husband, David of Laurel; great-grandchildren: Brianne Jones, Connor and Taylor Ludwig; two sisters, Lucille Twaddell of Georgetown, Colo., and Eunice Tipton of Kalispell; nieces and nephews, and a special nephew, John Beery & his wife, Lynda, and their children, Debbie and Jodi.
Services will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 19, at Smith Funeral Chapel, Laurel. Interment will be in the Laurel cemetery.

Irene A. Sheets
POWELL, Wyo. - Irene A. Sheets, 89, died Saturday, Oct. 16, 1999, at the Powell Nursing Home.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 19, at First Baptist Church with interment at Crown Hill cemetery. Miratsky-Easton Funeral Home is in charge.

Frederick Parlier
HARDIN - Frederick Gale Forrest Parlier, 84, of Hardin, passed away Friday, Oct. 15, 1999, at the Big Horn County Memorial Nursing Home.
He was born to James and Jennie Maniece Parlier at Villa Grove, Ill., on Jan. 30, 1916. He came to Big Horn County when he was 18 and was employed for several years by Sid Romine in the Sarpy area. He later worked for the Roy Burn's Blacksmithing and Welding in Hardin, until Pearl Harbor and the beginning of World War II.
Fred volunteered for the US Navy, where he served until honorably discharged at the end of the War. While stationed with the Navy at Farragut Naval Training Station in Idaho, he married Agnes (Syd) McDonnell on Jan. 5, 1943. The couple returned to Hardin and purchased the Burns Blacksmithing business and a home, residing in Hardin until 1965. They sold the shop and Fred signed on with Morrison-Knutson Contractors to help build the Yellowtail Dam. With their two sons, James and John, they moved to Fort Smith until the completion of the dam, and then moved to Libby to assist in building Libby Dam on the Kootenai River. Following the completion of that job, the family moved on to the construction of Teton Dam in Fremont County, Idaho. The failure of that dam marked the end of Fred's construction career. In 1976, he and Syd divorced and Fred returned to Hardin, where he has since resided.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Clara; two brothers, Brice and Donald; and a sister, Clara.
Fred will be missed by his sons, James of Tucson, Ariz., and John of Helena; his grandchildren: Jennifer, Justin and Shane Parlier, Timothy Eichleberger and Nola Raunig; his great-grandchildren: Tyson, Dylan, Brady and Jeane; his former wife, Syd Slattery; and his friend and companion, Opie Convers; as well as many other friends in Hardin and elsewhere.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Bullis Funeral Chapel. Interment with military honors will follow in the Fairview cemetery. Bullis Mortuary of Hardin has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Robert N. Oppegaard
CODY, Wyo. - Robert N. Oppegaard, age 80, passed away Thursday, Oct. 14, 1999, at West Park Long Term Care Center in Cody. He was born April 28, 1919, in Rockford, Ill., the son of Anton and Borghild Jorgensen Oppegaard.
Bob grew up in Wisconsin and the Chicago, Ill. area. He served in the Army in the European Theatre during World War II as a member of the 10th Mountain Division Troop. He married Dolores Vance on Sept. 13, 1947, in Seattle, Wash. The couple moved to Cody in the late 1940s. Bob worked as a projects supervisor for the National Park Service until his retirement in 1989. While employed by the Park Service, he worked all over the United States, but Cody remained his home.
Bob enjoyed golfing, hunting and fishing. He was able to enjoy a number of fishing trips to Saskatchewan, Canada over the years. A member of Olive Glenn Country Club, he was a daily golfer. In his younger years, Bob also enjoyed skiing with his family. He had participated in ski jumping and swimming for the Olympic trials. Bob was also a member of the Masonic Lodge and the Shriners.
His survivors include a son, Erik, of Red Lodge, Mont.; a brother, Tom Oppegaard of Rockford; a sister, Ann Oppegaard of Seattle; a sister, Vickie Crowell of Phoenix, Ariz.; a sister, Gudrin Oppegaard; and two grandchildren, Cliffton Robert Oppegaard, and Jeffery Mark Oppegaard, both of Billings, Mont. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dolores, on June 10, 1980; a son, Mark, on March 24, 1974; his parents; two brothers; and one sister.
Funeral services for Robert N. Oppegaard will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 20, at Ballard Funeral Home in Cody, with Shoshone Lodge #21, AF & AM conducting services. Interment will follow in Riverside cemetery.
Those wishing may make memorial contributions to the Shrine Burn Center in Bob's memory.

Albert Stuber
BIG TIMBER - Albert Stuber, 83, died of natural causes on Friday, Oct. 15, 1999, at the Pioneer Medical Center. Albert was born to Andrew and Anna Sophia (Baier) Stuber on March 12, 1916, in Elgin, N.D. He moved to Big Timber, Mont. in 1938, from Martin, N.D., where he started his farming and ranching career in Sweet Grass County that spanned over the next 50 years. He married Esther Alen in 1940, and they had six children. This past August they celebrated 59 years of marriage. Albert was a devoted father and grandfather, and truly loved children, especially the little ones that he could hold on his lap. Albert is remembered as a very hard working and honest man, with a big heart. Albert enjoyed fishing and hunting, as well as gardening in his later years. He always enjoyed a good game of cribbage, and playing card games. Albert was a member of Montana Graingrowers Association, Montana Wool Growers Association, Farmers Stockman Association, and was a 50 year member of Farm Bureau Services.
Albert is preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Fred, Reinhold and August; and sisters, Ida and Dorothy. He is survived by his wife, Esther; sisters, Mary Heim of Elgin, and Agnes Lautt of West Fargo, N.D.; brothers, William of West Fargo, Harold of Big Timber, and Otto Stuber of Havre; daughters: Alice Keith of Tucson, Ariz., Leora Dean of Walla Walla, Wash., Shirley Erfle of Big Timber; sons: Gene of Big Timber, Bernie of College Place, Wash., and Dennis Stuber of Bozeman. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Albert was well liked and thought highly of in the community, and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 19, at Lowry Funeral Home, with interment at Mountain View cemetery..
The family suggests memorials be directed to the Assisted Care Living Facility Fund, c/o Pioneer Medical Center, P0. Box 1228 Big Timber, MT 59011.

Fred Robert Whiteman
SIDNEY - Fred Robert Whiteman, 85, died Sunday, Oct. 17, 1999, at his home.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 18, at the Church of Christ with interment in the Sidney cemetery. Fulkerson Funeral Home is in charge.

Earline 'Toni' Mitchell
WOLF POINT - Earline "Toni" Mitchell, Indian name, Clear Water, 63, died Friday, Oct. 15, 1999, of cancer.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 19, at Clayton Memorial Chapel, with cremation to follow.

Mary Weis
LAUREL - Mary Weis, 77, of Laurel, passed away peacefully at the home of her son on Saturday, Oct. 16, 1999.
She was born Jan. 2, 1922, a daughter of Jacob and Christina Sauter at Hebron, N.D. Mary moved to Billings and married Roy Weis on Sept. 21, 1941. They were blessed with five children: Richard, Danny, David, Randy, and Pam. She is survived by David (Nancy) Weis, Randy (Mabel) Weis, and Pam (Bruce) Schreiner; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; three brothers: Jacob (Pat) Sauter, Albert (Maryann) Sauter, and Jerry Sauter; and one sister, Esther Boehm.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Roy; her sons, Richard and Danny; brothers, Earl, Ted and John; and sisters: Betty Frickel, Frieda Diede Gladys Nicolas, Bert Kruiser and Lillian Drewniak.
Mary worked at the Owl Cafe for many years as she was raising her children. She was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church and was best known to them as "The Cookie Lady." She made cookies for the preschool on a regular basis. In addition to her grandchildren, Mary enjoyed bowling and the many friends she had on the Friday Senior's League. She was a member of the Eagle's Lodge for many years.
She will be remembered and missed by her many family members and friends.
Services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 19, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Laurel. Interment will be in the Laurel cemetery.
Smith Funeral Chapel-Laurel was in charge of arrangements.

Ani Kelly
Our beloved Ani Kelly slipped away from us in the early hours of Saturday, Oct. 16, 1999. She had battled cancer for four days after suddenly falling ill with no prior warning.
She was born Agustina Dwi Nurani, in Jakarta, Indonesia, Aug. 8, 1962.
Ani met her husband, Ross, in the jungles of Irian Jaya, and after playing Tarzan and Jane they moved to North America, where they were married July 6, 1997. They continued the nomadic life across Mexico, USA and Canada. They settled in Reno Nev., May, 1998, and their gorgeous daughter, Kimberley Stephanie, was born May 10, 1999.
Ross and Kimberley extend their warmest appreciation to the Jerry Ridgeway family who adopted them, everyone at Tractor and Equipment, and the staff of St. Vincent ICU ward, all of whom treated them with compassion and tenderness in their time of need.
There will be a service held for all to say farewell to Ani, Tuesday Oct. 19, at Michelotti, Sawyers & Nordquist Mortuary, 1001 Alderson Ave., Billings, at 7 p.m. After this service, Ross will be taking Ani home to be buried next to her mother in Jakarta.
Memorials may be made in Ani's honor to the Kimberley Stephanie Kelly Education Fund, c/o Connie Ridgeway, First Citizens Bank, 2812 First Ave. N., Billings, MT 59101.

Alice L. Shoop Maxwell
Alice L. Shoop Maxwell, 92, of Billings, died Sunday, Oct. 17, 1999, at St. John's Retirement Home.
The daughter of W. Wayne and Cora Shay Shoop, Alice was born Sept. 4, 1907, in Laurel. She graduated from Laurel High School in 1927, and attended Billings Normal School (MSUB), where she earned a Teaching Certificate. She then taught school for two years at Broadview and Edgar. She married Harry P. Maxwell in 1930. Following their marriage, Alice and Harry lived in Park City, north of Joliet and Eureka. They returned to Billings in 1940, where she raised her family and maintained a home until she was forced by ill health to live at St. John's. Harry died in 1957, and in 1958 Alice returned to EMC once again, and renewed her Teaching Certificate. She then taught at Acton, later returning to EMC, where she earned her Bachelor of Science degree. Following graduation she taught at Molt and Cutbank. After retirement she enjoyed and maintained a very active lifestyle. She was a proud and active member of all branches of Odd Fellow/Rebekah Lodge in Billings, the First United Methodist Church and the NRTA.
Survivors include six children: Lenore Maxwell Kipp (Don) of Billings; Ellen Maxwell Hill of Bridger; Nancy Maxwell Hill (Ken) of Billings; Ronald H. Maxwell of St. Louis, Mo.; Arleen Maxwell Nafts (Mel) of Billings; and Clyde R. Maxwell (Sukie) of Tacoma, Wash.; two sisters, Elsie Bachmann, and Grace Joppa, both of St. John's Retirement Home; 13 grandchildren: Kurt Holcomb, Michael Kipp, Ronald Kipp, Cheryle Lane, Janet Stokes, Terry Hill, Timothy Hill, Shelly Graham, Dale Nafts, Randy Maxwell, Linda Maxwell, Tricia Maxwell and David Maxwell; 16 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
She was preceded in death by her husband; a daughter; her parents; one granddaughter; one great-grandson; one son-in-law; seven brothers; and two sisters.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, at Michelotti, Sawyers & Nordquist Mortuary, with interment in Mountview cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.
