Rosebud Bulltail
LODGE GRASS - Rosebud Bulltail, 59, of Lodge Grass, died Wednesday, Oct. 13, 1999, in the Deaconess Medical Center.
IHCHICHIAE'EWIA "Sacred Mountain Tobacco Woman" was born March 10, 1940, in Pryor, a daughter of Guy and Margaret Blaine Bulltail. Her Maternal grandparents were James and Ethel Plenty Hawk Blaine and her Paternal grandparents were Simon and Stella Pretty Sweat House Bulltail. She was raised in Pryor at the home of Chief Plenty Coups, her great-grandfather, attended schools in Pryor and graduated from Lodge Grass High School in 1958.
While in school she was a cheerleader, homecoming queen and member of the National Honor Society. Following her education, she worked in the Realty Department at the Bureau of Indian Affairs. She later attended Eastern Montana College, majoring in education. She was one of the first teachers for the Crow Agency Headstart Program. She was known for her beauty and personality.
Rosebud married Dan Old Elk Sr. and was later divorced. She married Joe Bear Robe in 1986 and he preceded her in death in 1996.
Religion and spirituality were important to her, particularly the Sweat Lodge Ceremony. She was a member of the Catholic Church, Native American Church, Tobacco Society, Ties the Bundle Clan, Whistling Water Clan and was a child of the Greasy Mouth Clan.
Crow traditional beliefs and activities were a strong part of her daily life. She used her traditional talents in her cooking, beadwork, sewing and hand games. She was well known for her gifts of massage therapy and her abilities to heal colic. She encouraged her family to care for others in need and to work towards an education. She was a humble and forgiving person.
Rosebud was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Evelyn; a son, Donald and a brother, Robert.
Survivors include four daughters, Donna (Michael) Yazzie of Lodge Grass, Denise (Michael) Stops of Crow Agency, Delora Old Elk of California and Renee (Leonard) Crooked Arm of Hardin; three sons, Daniel Old Elk Jr. of California, Dominic Old Elk of Idaho and Blaine (Carrie) Bulltail of Lodge Grass; four sisters, Regina Pretty on Top, Doris Gets Down, Eva Ann and Carol Bulltail of Lodge Grass; two brothers, Dewey (MaryLynne) Bulltail of Billings and Wales (Audrey) Bulltail of Lodge Grass; her adopted siblings, Roy and Frances Sanders of Florida, Levi Yellowmule of Wyola, Carlton Nomee, Iola Medicine Horse of Crow Agency, James and Annabelle White of Lodge Grass; 27 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; two uncles, Warren Blaine and John Bulltail; her Tobacco Society adopted parents, George and Sarah Goes Ahead; her Tobacco Society adopted siblings, Josephine Whiteman, Agnes Pretty Weasel, Gloria Cummins, Clem, Sylvester and Vincent Goes Ahead Sr., Clara Big Lake, Darlene Rogers, Adeline Plain Feather, Warlene Comes Up, Heywood Big Day Jr., Theodore and Cody Ware, Geneva Dillon, Julia, Susie and Deanna Round Face. She also raised several of her nieces and nephews as her own.
Rosary will be recited 4 p.m. Sunday in the Bullis Funeral Chapel. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Monday in the Lodge Grass Our Lady of Loretto Catholic Church. Interment will follow in the Lodge Grass cemetery. Bullis Mortuary of Hardin has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Rhonda L. Chandler
HAYS - Rhonda L. Birdtail Chandler, 33, of Hays, died Friday, Oct. 8, 1999, in Italy of carbon monoxide poisoning.
Wake/Rosary services will be at 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 17, at St. Paul's Mission. Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 18, at St. Paul's Mission, with interment in the Birdtail Family cemetery in Lodge Pole. Adams Funeral Home of Malta is in charge.

Frieda A. Dickman
MISSOULA - Frieda A. Dickman, 83, died of natural causes on Tuesday, Oct. 12, 1999. She was the devoted mother of her own large family and the surrogate mother to numerous others, as well as a beloved friend and teacher. Frieda's home and arms were open to all who passed through her life.
She was born to Martha (Friedrich) Raess and Walter J. Raess, homesteaders in Plentywood in 1916. She was a product of the loving home from which she was raised and she carried that tradition throughout her life. Frieda obtained a provisional teaching license from Miss Woods Kindergarten and Primary Training School of St. Paul, Minn. She taught elementary school in Sunburst and Broadus before marrying Paul C. Dickman, whom she met at a picnic at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Missoula in 1943.
Paul and Frieda lived in Spokane, Wash., and Butte prior to Paul's death in 1958. As a young widow with five small children, Frieda moved to Missoula where there were numerous family friends. Frieda completed her degree in education at the University of Montana and taught first grade at Hawthorne School for 13 years.
After retirement, Frieda continued her dedication to teaching through tutoring countless children and adults seeking citizenship for whom English was a second language. She was the first person to receive the Governor's Golden Apple for Literacy Award in recognition of her work with the Vietnamese community. She continued teaching in the Foster Grandparent Program at Paxson School until her lack of mobility made it impossible for her. For the last two years, she shared her home with her granddaughter's young family.
Frieda was a faithful member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, active in the Women of the ELCA. She loved to stay at Flathead Lutheran Bible Camp. In recent years, she provided telephone ministry from her home.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Paul; a daughter, Ruth Duckworth; and a brother, Ted Raess of Santa Rosa, Calif. She is survived by her three sons, Dan Dickman of Whitefish, Dave Dickman of Missoula, and Rick Dickman of Billings; her daughter, Debbie Willis of Missoula; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; five stepchildren; several nieces and nephews; and her sister, Betty Zenier of Seattle.
Memorial services will be held Saturday, Oct. 16, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 200 Brooks St. in Missoula at noon. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. Paul's Lutheran Church for Scholarships to the Flathead Lutheran Bible Camp. We grieve that she no longer walks with us but rejoice in the blessed gift of her life. Arrangements are under the care of the Malletta Family of Funeral Homes.

Frank Kukla
Frank Kukla, 78, of Billings, died Thursday, Oct. 14, 1999, at his home.
The son of Leon and Stella Kukla, Frank was born Nov. 25, 1920, in Wibaux County. When he was 14, the family moved to Wyoming. Frank married Dorothy Jean Smith, Nov. 15, 1941, in Worland, Wyo.
Frank was a hard worker and a good farmer. He farmed with his brother at Worland for 10 years before moving to Burlington, Wyo., where he farmed for another 10 years. He then moved to the Blue Creek area where he farmed until moving to Florida in 1972. Those years farming at Blue Creek were the 10 best years of his life.
He enjoyed making wine, gardening and playing the stock market.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy of Billings; four children, Synde Heidema and her husband, Jack of Pryor, and Connie Roll and her husband, Gary, Merrylee Ruschkewicz and her husband, Tom, and Gerald Kukla, all of Billings; two brothers, Ollie Kukla and his wife, Margaret of Cody, and Stanley Kukla of Billings; and four grandchildren, Jonathan Roll, Josh Roll, Shannon Casares and her husband, Robert, and Jayme Roll.
Frank was preceded in death by his daughter, Jan, and his brother, Alfred.
Cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Michelotti, Sawyers & Nordquist Mortuary. Following the services a reception will be held upstairs at Charlie Browns.
Memorials may be made to Big Sky Hospice.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Walter Obrist of Florida.

John F. Lewis
SHERIDAN, Wyo. - John Frederick "Jack" Lewis, 86, died Wednesday, Oct. 13, 1999, at the VA Medical Center.
Vigil services will be at 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 17, at Kane Funeral Home. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 18, at Holy Name Catholic Church.

Carole Jean Morris
SHERIDAN, Wyo. - Carole Jean Morris, 62, died Thursday, Oct. 14, 1999, at Memorial Hospital in Sheridan.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial will be at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 19, at the Big Horn Mountain Eagles Lodge with a private committal at a later date. Kane Funeral Home is in charge.

Margaret Murphy
Margaret Murphy, 79 of Billings, passed away Wednesday evening, Oct. 13, 1999, at Deaconess Medical Center. The daughter of Michael and Mary Murphy, she was born in Butte on April 11, 1920.
Margaret lived many years at the Constellation Home in Billings. She was a special lady to her group family and will be missed greatly by them all. Margaret enjoyed her retirement years at the Billings Activity Program, especially artwork and the loving support and companionship of her friends.
Visitation will be held 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, October 16, at Michelotti, Sawyers & Nordquist. Graveside services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 20, at Riverside cemetery.

Mildred Alice Nellen
THERMOPOLIS, Wyo. - Mildred Alice Nellen, 85, died Thursday, Oct. 14, 1999, at the Wyoming Medical Center in Casper.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 18, at Mortimore Funeral Home with interment at Monument Hill cemetery in Thermopolis.

Robert N. Oppegaard
CODY, Wyo. - Robert N. Oppegaard, 80, died Thursday, Oct. 14, 1999, at West Park Long Term Care Center.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 20, at Ballard Funeral Home with interment in Riverside cemetery.

Priscilla Romero
Priscilla Romero, born on Dec. 30, 1934, in Manzano, N.M., passed away on Oct. 13, 1999, after being involved in a motor vehicle accident.
Priscilla (Mom, Grandma, Great Grandma, and Friend), we will remember your sense of humor and the cheerful laugh that came from your loving heart on a daily basis. We will remember your love for children and your love that you gave to us. Your prayers, music, and participation at both church and for the Cursillo movement will be missed, but not forgotten. We will remember our family reunions, your tasty and fulfilling meals, and your homemade tortillas. We will remember never leaving you without you first saying "God be with you" or "Vaya Con Dios." We will remember the meaningful conversations that we've held with you on so many occasions.
But most of all, we will remember your love for God. You never failed to inspire us to be a child of God. Your endless faith will be with us for the rest of our lives. When we close our eyes and picture you, we will see the face of Jesus smiling back at us. We love you very much and we know that your feelings for us are the same. Thank you for being strong, patient, caring, and loving. We also want to thank you for teaching us the values and morals that we use in our lives today. Priscilla (Mom, Grandma, Great Grandma, and Friend), until we see each other again, "Vaya Con Dios."
Priscilla is survived by her children: Alice and Pete Rodriquez; John Donez, Mariliyn Arstein, Karen Peterson; Loretta and Walt Wetch; Wilfred Romero; Cristina Romero; Elizabeth Romero; Sara and Randy Minkoff; Rebecca Osen and Pat Reichert; and Danny Meyers and his family; all from Billings; Margaret and Carlos Gonzalez, from Harlingen, Texas; Carloina and Sabino Diaz from Powell, Wyo.; and Connie Donez from Albany, Ore.; grandchildren: Manual and Barb Zuniga; Danny Jo Lira, Priscilla Lira and Aaron Tousley; Banji Hood; Angelina Hood and Tony Hare; Juan, James and Jesse Donez; Paul, Mario, and Josh Donez; Erica and Eric Diaz; Primitiva, Daniella and Rene Gonzalez; Albert Joseph (AJ) and Ann Hodges, Andrew and Cristina Donez; and BreAnn Rodriquez; great-grandchildren: David Zuniga, Hunter Rukstad, Jesse and Antonio Donez, Alicia and Elizabeth Tousley, Richard, Brittney, and Katherine Hood, and Christian and Anthony Hare. She is also survived by brother and sisters: Toni Whiting, Margaret Varges, Theresa Van Burn, Tomi Kane, and Brig Candelaria.
Priscilla was preceded in death by her mother and father, Margarita and Jose Leon Candelaria; her sister, Alice Rangle; her brother, David Candelaria; and her granddaughter, Lucille Hood; grandson, Richard Hood; and her twin sons, Luis Jr. and unnamed.
The Vigil service will be 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 18, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. The Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Church. The Rite of Committal will be at Holy Cross cemetery.
A memorial fund for Priscilla has been established at Western Security Bank, 2929 Third Ave. N., Billings, MT 59101.

Albert Stuber
BIG TIMBER - Albert Stuber, 83, died Friday, Oct. 15, 1999, at the Pioneer Medical Center.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 19, at Lowry Funeral Home with interment at Mountain View cemetery.

Lee Charles Walker
Lee Charles Walker, 83, of Billings, died Oct. 14, 1999, at Deaconess Medical Center. Lee was born in Ismay, Nov. 7, 1915, to parents, Ellen and Charles Walker. He attended Ismay schools and worked in ranching, construction and the Milwaukee Railroad, where he became Assistant Foreman in the Carman Department.
At the age of 17, he entered the CCC, working for three years, where he built dams, and continued to work on dams, off and on, over the next 20 years, during the times he was temporarily laid off from the railroad. He operated a caterpillar in the construction of the Tongue River Dam, personally turning the first blade of earth, marking the beginning of construction of the dam.
In 1938, Lee married Ruth Anetta Gramm, and they had four daughters. They lived in Harlowton, Miles City and Billings. Lee loved taking rides with his wife, reading, hunting, telling great stories, and had a very strict sense of right and wrong.
Lee is preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Naomi; and twin daughters, Mary Ellen and Elizabeth Jane. He is survived by his wife, Ruth; sisters, Mary Bisheel and Eileen Flesh, both of Wisconsin; daughter, Diana; granddaughters, Jeannine Murdick and husband, Roger of Billings, and Kimberly Pearson and husband, Jim of Boulder, Colo.; and great-grandsons, Syd, Symon and Dylan.
Funeral Services will be held at Dahl Funeral Chapel on Monday at 10 a.m. Visitation will be Friday from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Interment will be at Holy Cross cemetery on Tuesday at 10 a.m.

Bobbye Merriman Wise
ROUNDUP - Bobbye Merriman Wise, of Roundup, died peacefully after a long illness Thursday, Oct. 14, 1999, at Roundup Memorial Nursing Home, encircled by her loving family and friends. Prior to her six-week stay at the nursing home, Bobbye lived with her daughter, Anita, and granddaughters, Tara and Keeley, for almost four years.
Bobbye was born Aug. 30, 1921, at Woodston, Kan., the youngest of five children born to Ralph and Eunice (Chapel) Merriman. Myra (Chapel) Quenzer, a double cousin, was raised with the Merriman family and became as close as a sister to Bobbye.
After graduating from high school in 1939, Bobbye married Foster Wise on Oct. 28. In 1940, they moved to Montana. They farmed south of Gage until 1955 when they moved into Roundup. Bobbye and Foster had five children.
Bobbye was a master of many different skills. She was a nurses aide at Vicar's Nursing Home, a cook at the Pioneer Cafe, manager of the Bowling Alley Cafe and supervisor of Bobbye Wise & Girls Catering.
One of the founders of the Musselshell Valley Historical Museum, Bobbye was president of the MVH Museum from 1974-1986 and a participating board member for many more years.
Bobbye was preceded in death by her husband, Foster, two brothers, and two sisters. Survivors include daughters, Cindy Wilmot of Birney, Nan Witzel and Anita Burch, both of Roundup, and sons, Harlan Wise and Lynn Wise, both of Roundup. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Bobbye was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend, who will be greatly missed.
Memorials can be made to the MVH Museum or the charity of one's choice.
Services will be 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 18, 1999, at the Wier Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow in the Roundup City cemetery. Wier Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Gordon Schroeder
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the First Free Will Baptist Church, Billings - memorials are to be made to this church. Mr. Gordon Edward Schroeder, of 716 Shawnee Drive, went home to be with his Lord on Oct. 13 at St. Vincent's Hospital.
Gordon was born June 21, 1919, to Edward and Theresa (Lobe) Schroeder at the homestead in Bascom. He married Dorothy L. Bernhard in 1941. To this union were born seven children; they were divorced in 1958. Gordon married Tillie Fried on May 4, 1982, adding 10 more children into his family.
Gordon was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was a WWII Navy veteran, boiler-man, an inventor, and a jack-of-all trades. He enjoyed helping his friends and family with many projects. Preceding him in death were his parents, great-granddaughter, Theresa Sorenson; brothers, Ralph, Harold, Elmer; and sister, Adele Hjelvik.
Survivors include his wife, Tillie; sisters, Louise (Jim) McCalmant, Lila Anderson and Alice Breed; children: Theresa (Jim) Moses, Sharon (Don) Carey, Jerry (Sherelle) Schroeder, Jackie Jo (Wes) Lindsay, Bernhard (Jan) Schroeder, Kristi (Don) Lode, Patrick (Chris) Schroeder; 30 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Cremation will occur prior to memorial service.

Dorase A. Chase
RONAN - Dorase Achsa Chase, 92, formerly of Billings, died Wednesday, Oct. 13, 1999, at St. Luke Extended Care Facility of natural causes.
A private family memorial will be held in Oregon. The Grogan Funeral Home & Crematory of Polson were in charge.
