Doris May Grewe Nygaard
GLASGOW - Doris May Grewe Nygaard, a resident of Valley View Home in Glasgow, died on Oct. 11, 1999. Doris was born May 26, 1919, in Muskegon, Mich., to Raymond and Lucy Parker.
As one of 13 children, Doris acquired her homemaking skills at an early age. Everyone knew her as an excellent cook. She was very active in her church from Pompeys Pillar, Columbus, to Quartzite, Ariz. Word puzzles, crocheting and visiting her friends and children were her delight in later years.
Doris and Albert Grewe were married in Traverse City, Mich. They moved to Montana in 1945. Albert died in October of 1981. Doris married James Nygaard in 1983 and he died in October of 1990. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Roseanne (Walt) Chelgren, who died on Oct. 5, 1999, in Mesa, Ariz.
Doris is survived by one son, Thomas Grewe, wife, Karen of Glasgow; and daughters, Julia Bruderer, husband, Dennis of Caldwell, Idaho, and Elberta Evans and husband, Ted of Billings; as well as 15 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 16, 1999, at Dahl Funeral Chapel. Cremation has taken place.

Eltha Eleanor (Gill) Buska
Eltha Eleanor (Gill) Buska, age 89, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 13, 1999, at Valley Health Care Center, Billings. She was very much loved by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and extended family and friends in Minnesota.
Eleanor was born April 21, 1910, in South St. Paul, Minn., daughter of Christopher Gill and Sophie Minda (Hemmingson-Christianson) Gill. She spent her youth and attended school in South St. Paul and married Vernon A. Buska in 1927. They moved to Forest Lake, Minn., in 1952.
After the death of her husband in 1985 she remained in her home until 1994 when she went to live in Mountain Home, Ark., with her youngest son, Richard. Upon his untimely death in 1995 she came to Billings to live with her oldest son, Donald and his wife, Mary L. (Moore) Buska. She has been a resident of Valley Health Care Center since suffering a severe debilitating stroke in January 1997.
She was a former member of St. Augustine Church, 302 Fifth Ave. N. in South St. Paul, Minn., and a member of St. Peter's Catholic Community at 1250 South Shore Drive, Forest Lake, Minn. 55025, and currently a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 2210 Colton Blvd., Billings, MT 59102.
She is survived by her son, Donald and wife, Mary Lou of Billings; sister-in-law, Jackie Gill of South St. Paul; and many nieces and nephews; nine grandchildren: Barbara (Buska) and husband, Chuck Kleckner of Inver Grove Heights, Minn.; Kathleen (Buska) Lee of Newport, Minn.; Colleen (Buska) Eggen of Forest Lake; James S. Buska and wife, Jo Feyhl of Lebanon, N.H.; William A. Buska and wife, Victoria of Spokane, Wash.; Thomas J. Buska and wife, Thelma of National City, Calif.; Jeffrey G. Buska and wife, Becky of Helena; Donna Buska of East Helena; Diane A. (Buska) and husband, Mikeal Connors of Sierra Vista, Ariz.; and 18 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Vernon and his parents; son, Richard; grandson, David Buska; and brother, Leo Gill.
Vigil and Funeral Mass will be Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 19, 1999, in South St. Paul. Internment at Fort Snelling Veterans cemetery, Minneapolis, Minn.

Merle E. Mason
CODY, Wyo. - Merle E. Mason, 81, died Wednesday, Oct. 13, 1999, at his home after a long illness.
Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 18, at Ballard Funeral Home. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 19, at the funeral home.

Leona Mae Hay
MILES CITY - Leona Mae Hay, 84, died Thursday, Oct. 14, 1999, at the Holy Rosary Extended Care.
Prayer services will be at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 15, at the Holy Rosary Health Center Chapel. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 16, in the chapel of Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home with interment in the family lot in the Custer County cemetery.

Leon A. Sperry
FORSYTH - Leon Adamson Sperry, 81, died Wednesday, Oct. 13, 1999.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 16, in the chapel of Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home with interment at a later date in Grass Lake, Mich.

Duane Carlin
MILES CITY - Duane Carlin, 80, died Thursday, Oct. 14, 1999, at the Holy Rosary Extended Care.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 18, at the First Baptist Church with interment in the family lot in the Custer County cemetery. Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home is in charge.

Bryan Kilen
ANDES - Bryan Kilen, 55, died Wednesday, Oct. 13, 1999, at his farm of a heart attack.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 16, 1999, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Culbertson with interment in the Lone Butte cemetery. Fulkerson Funeral Home of Sidney is in charge.

Roseanne Grewe Chelgren
MESA, Ariz. - Roseanne Grewe Chelgren was born in Traverse City, Mich., on March 28, 1940, to Albert Sydney Grewe and Doris Parker Grewe. She was second eldest of four children. Her early childhood years were in Traverse City, however most of her later childhood and teenager years were in and around Pompeys Pillar, Mont. She later attended nursing school in Nampa, Idaho. After receiving her nursing certificate, she moved to Glendive, Mont., and it was there that she met Walt Chelgren. Roseanne and Walt were united in marriage and together they raised six wonderful children in Montana. After raising their family, they decided to move to the "valley of the sun" (Phoenix proper). It was there that on Oct. 6, 1999, our Lord and Savior called her to eternal rest. Memorial services were held in Mesa on Oct. 10, 1999.
She held various positions in nursing and in administration, but it was in property management which she and Walt received special recognition for their efforts in crime prevention. At the time of her death, she was property manager for North Country Club Apartments in Mesa.
Although Roseanne had a fulfilling career, she was still very devoted to her husband and family, always making time to attend her children's events and school activities. She thoroughly enjoyed cooking for family and friends and always had an open ear for anyone that just needed to talk. She also had a lifelong interest in growing and nurturing plants and flowers.
Roseanne leaves to cherish her memory her beloved husband, Walt Chelgren, Mesa; six children: Connie Gundlach, Cordova, Alaska; Scott Chelgren, Casper, Wyo.; Gary Chelgren, Shepherd, Mont.; Jeff Chelgren, Lynn, Mass.; Duane Chelgren, Billings; Chelle' Warden, Mesa; her children's spouses; 13 grandchildren; and three siblings: Tom Grewe, Glasgow, Mont.; Julie Bruderer, Caldwell, Idaho; Berta Evans, Billings.
She was preceded in death by her father, Albert Sydney Grewe. Most recently her mother, Doris Parker Grewe, passed away on Oct. 11, 1999.

Diana Elizabeth Marten
Diana Elizabeth Marten, age 58 of Billings, and formerly of Great Falls, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 13, 1999, at her home with her family members by her side due to the terminal illness known as Parkinson-multiple systems atrophy.
Diana was born Oct. 18, 1940, in Williston, N.D., to Alvin Stensaker and Katherine Busch.
As a young girl she was raised and attended school in Williston; later she moved to Great Falls with mother, Katherine, and stepfather, Lloyd Lundquist. She attended high school until she met and married Eugene Marten on July 16, 1959.
She loved to sing and dance and also enjoyed bowling, shooting pool, camping and fishing with family and many friends.
She is survived by her husband, Eugene D. Marten, Billings; sons: Kenny and Gene Marten of Woodland, Calif.; daughter, Carla Austin of Lake Tahoe; brother, Robert Stensaker of Great Falls; sisters: Linda Molnar of Redlands, Calif., Barb Malensek of Helena, Debbie McDunn of Great Falls, Carol French of Petaluma, Calif.; grandchildren: Michael, Rebecca, Brandy, Amber, Christina, Alexis, Tyler; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Diana was preceded in death by her parents, Alvin Stensaker and Katherine and Lloyd Lundquist; husband, Charles Herrick; and son, Steve Marten.
Diana was a very beautiful and strong willed woman as she showed in life and while facing death. Diana you will be greatly loved and missed.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 18, 1999, at the Smith West Chapel, 304 34th St. W. Viewing will be at Smith West Chapel, 304 34th St. W., Saturday 9 to 9 p.m., Sunday noon til 8 p.m. and prior to services on Monday.
There will be a celebration of Diana's Life following services at Charlie Brown's Back Forty, 315 Morey Lane.

James E. 'Jim' Gilliland
BIRNEY - James E. "Jim" Gilliland, 70, of Birney, died Tuesday, Oct. 12, 1999, in Billings. James was born July 12, 1929, in Fostoria, Ohio, to the late Lauren and Milldred (Halter) Gilliland of Tiffin, Ohio.
After he graduated from Calvert High School he took his luck west to Las Vegas, Nev., and worked for the Tulli Springs Ranch. After a brief stay he traveled north to Birney, where he worked for Henry and Dorthy Woodard. Jim Gilliland and Sally Woodard celebrated their marriage on June 24, 1950, at the Three Circle Ranch.
Jim is survived by his wife, Sally M. Gilliland; son, James J. Gilliland (Kayleen); daughter, Sue M. Anderson (Allen); grandchildren, Jenny and Tyler Anderson, Henry, Kerri, and Mark Gilliland; sisters, Jean Mickens, Joyce Mosier and Nancy Shaw, all of Ohio. Jim was preceded in death by sister, Kay Stricker of Washington.
Family graveside services will be held at the Elks cemetery. A celebration of Jim's life will be held at the Sheridan Elks Club on Saturday, Oct. 16, at 2 p.m. Memorial donations can be sent to The Northern Rockies Cancer Center, P.E.A.K.S. or Sheridan Elks cemetery Fund in care of Delphine Toner at First Interstate Bank, Sheridan, Wyo.
Affordable Alternative Cremation and Burial Services made the arrangements.

Byron L. Virden
BREMERTON, Wash. - Byron L. Virden, 53, of Bremerton, and formerly of Billings, died Sept. 25, 1999, at Harrison Memorial Hospital after a brief battle with cancer.
He was born Aug. 28, 1946, in Long Beach, Calif., to Virgil and Marie (Wagner) Virden.
He served in the United States Navy from the time he graduated high school in 1965 until 1973 when he received an honorable discharge.
He worked for Holman GM Diesel in Billings until 1982 when he moved us to Bremerton to take on a nuclear inspector's position.
He remarried in 1986 to Bonnie J. Cowan. His first wife was Kathleen E. Anderson Hayter.
Survivors include his wife; his parents, now of Apache Junction, Ariz.; a son, Ronald of Bremerton; a daughter, Ronda of Billings; a brother, Bill of Olalla; two sisters, JoAnn Hornbeck of Higley, Ariz., and Judy Reynalds of Tacoma; and seven grandchildren.
He was laid to rest at Miller Woodlawn Memorial Park, in Bremerton, on Oct. 1.

Erick Welch Jones
POWELL, Wyo. - Erick Welch Jones, 49, of Powell, died Wednesday, Oct. 13, 1999, at St. Vincent Hospital in Billings, due to complications of leukemia.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Oct. 18, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with interment in Crown Hill cemetery. Miratsky-Easton Funeral Home is in charge.

Irwin J. Negaard
TUCSON, Ariz. - Irwin Joseph Negaard, 86, formerly of Plentywood and Wolf Point, Mont., died Tuesday, Oct. 12, 1999, in Tucson.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 18, at St. John's Church near Westby, Mont., with interment in St. John's cemetery. Fulkerson Funeral Home of Plentywood is in charge.

Robert P. Wilson
LIVINGSTON - Robert P. Wilson, 64, of Livingston, died Tuesday, Oct. 12, 1999, at the Billings Deaconess Hospital.
The son of Van R. and Jeanne Wilson, Bob was born Nov. 24, 1934, in Anaconda. He moved with his family to Sheridan, Wyo., where he was raised and educated. After graduating from Sheridan High School he attended the University of Wyoming. Bob married Helen A. Urmson in Sheridan, Nov. 5, 1954.
He had been the director of the Motor Fuel Division for the State of Montana for 14 years before moving to Livingston, where he worked as pro rate manager for Waggoner Trucking until retiring in 1996.
Bob had a passion for everything he did. In recent years he had devoted his time to restoring his historic home in Livingston. An avid fly fisherman and artist, he enjoyed golf and camping. A wonderful father, his greatest accomplishment was raising his boys. He loved his grandchildren and his dog, Beau.
Survivors include his wife, Helen of Livingston; six sons, Doug and Rita of Livingston, Steve and Shelly of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, Mike and Nancy of Billings, Dan and Jami of Auburn, Wash., Roger and Kim of San Francisco, and Scott and Amy of Bellingham, Wash.; three foster children, Jim Krusemark of Butte, Sherri and Faron McWilliams of Missoula and Sean Brooks of Missoula; his brother, Richard of Green River, Wyo.; and a sister, Karen Hisken of Oregon House, Calif.; 15 grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Holbrook United Methodist Church, Livingston.
Memorials may be made to the Park County Humane Society.

Sarah Proctor Beebe
FORSYTH - Sarah Proctor Beebe, 94, died Wednesday, Oct. 13, 1999, at the Rosebud Health Care Center.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 15, at the Beals Mortuary Chapel with interment in the Forsyth cemetery.

Paul Michael Zahorodny
Paul Michael Zahorodny, 52, of Billings, died suddenly early Monday morning of a brain aneurysm.
He was born on May 19, 1947, in Amityville, N.Y., a son of Michael Paul Zahorodny and Gracie Gladys Gibbs. They resided in Hempstead, Long Island. At age 13, Paul's father passed away and he went to live with his aunt and uncle in Fallon. He graduated from Terry High School in 1964. He attended Miles Community College for two years and Eastern Montana College in Billings for one year.
He married Aleta D. Baxter in Billings in 1973. In 1979 their son, Paul Jr., was born.
Paul worked the past 25 years for Empire Sand and Gravel Company. He was a member of Teamsters Union, Local 190.
Paul loved his family above all things and was intensely proud of his son, Paul Jr., who is serving with the U.S. Army in Fort Carson, Colo.
He was known by his family and friends as a "crock-pot wizard." He also enjoyed spending time with family and friends at his weekend get-away home in Fort Smith, boating on Yellowtail Lake. He was a member of the OK-A-BEH Waterski Club. He was known as a loyal friend and one who would give you the shirt off his back. He was honest, and sincere and always had a joke to tell. He was a hard worker and was never afraid to tackle any project. He will be immensely missed.
Survivors include his wife, Aleta and son, Paul Jr. of Billings; his sister, Claudia (Grant) Wilson of Ringstead, Iowa; his aunt and uncle, Marjorie and Richard Waldo of Fallon; and numerous extended family, and especially his best friend, P.J. Shumaker of Billings.
Viewing will be Friday from 2-4:30, with a memorial service on Saturday at 11 at Cremation or Funeral Gallery, 29 Eighth St. W., to be followed by a reception at Charlie Brown's Bar and Lounge, 319 Morey. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your favorite charity.
