Audrey Kaiser
WILLISTON - On March 22, 1916, a new, bright light came into this world. Audrey Eloise Prichard was born in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., that day to Jeanette Osteen Prichard and Thomas Prichard. On November 28, 1999, this light of our lives went out.
Audrey's father died when she was just two years old in Colorado Springs, Colo. Without a dollar to her name, Audrey's mother took her and her one-year-old twin brothers, Rex and Ray, and returned to her home in Ottumwa, Iowa. In 1922, Jeanette was remarried to Arlando Pettegrew, "a railroad man." During Audrey's school years she lived in many towns in Kansas and Missouri, finally settling in Trenton, Mo., where she graduated from high school in 1936. One of her fondest memories of those years was a trip her and her girlfriends took to the Chicago's Worlds Fair.
While on one of her many visits to her Aunt Hazel Pratt in Miles City, Mont., she met a young grocery store employee named Ray Kaiser. On June 27, 1936, she and Ray were married and made their new home in Miles City. On Feb. 26, 1996, just four months short of their 60th wedding anniversary, Ray passed away.
In 1945, following Ray's discharge from the Army, he moved his family, now including daughter Carol and son Terry, to Williston, N.D. The family quickly grew to include sons Bruce, Corky, Tim and Jim. Audrey was a most loving and caring homemaker during these years. She enjoyed her hobbies of bridge, gardening and volunteer work for St. Joseph Catholic Church, and the Mercy Hospital. Audrey had a legion of devoted friends and she dearly loved everyone she befriended. She will always be remembered by her friends and family for her strong spirit and great sense of humor, and especially for her kind heart and compassion for the less fortunate, especially the children of her community. Many children were beneficiaries of her kindness and generosity, many without ever knowing who their benefactor was. Her children were so lucky to have been raised by this beautiful, and sometimes wacky lady.
Audrey is survived by her children, Carol and her husband Glenn of Red Lodge, Terry and his wife Jan of Hayden, Idaho., Bruce and his wife Roxi of Williston, N.D., Curtis "Corky" and his wife Margaret of Tulsa, Okla., Tim and his wife Jan of Jan Juc, Victoria, Australia, and Jim and his wife Arlis of Mesa, Ariz. She is also survived by 20 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.
Audrey was preceded in death by her husband, Ray, and her twin brothers, Rex and Ray.
Audrey would wish that in lieu of flowers or other memorial gifts, please make a donation in her name to a local charity that would benefit the children of the community.
Her funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 1, 1999, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Williston. Father Gary Benz will officiate and interment will be at Riverview cemetery. A prayer service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Fulkerson Funeral Home Chapel in Williston. Formal visitation will be held Tuesday from 5 to 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home and one hour prior to services on Wednesday at the church.
