James Arthur Henman
COLSTRIP - James "Jim" A. Henman, 64, of Colstrip, died Friday, Nov. 12, 1999, at the Colstrip Medical Clinic of natural causes.
Jim was born Dec. 19, 1934, in Exira, Iowa, the son of Fred and Eloise Paulen Henman. He moved with his family to Kansas and Wyoming where he attended schools. He attended college in Wyoming and received his masters degree in administrative education in Kirksville, Mo. Jim taught school and served as principal in Ottumwa, Iowa.
On March 19, 1974, Jim married Sharen Helmick in Albia, Iowa. They came to Montana in 1977, to Moorcroft, Wyo., in 1980 and in 1990 they came back to Montana to teach in the Lame Deer School system.
Jim was a member of the Baptist Church, Gideons and National Education Association. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, cooking and reloading shells.
He is survived by his wife Sharen of Colstrip, five daughters, Terri Henman and Tracy Davis, both of Colstrip, Tammy Shell of Warrenton, Mo., Jani Davis of Midland, Texas, Jocelyn Pickett of Durham, N.C.; two sons, Todd Davis of Butte and J. D. Henman of Burlington, Iowa; his mother, Eloise Henman of Torrington, Wyo.; 11 grandchildren; three brothers, Bill Henman of Loveland, Colo., Fred Henman of Laramie, Wyo., and Dan Henman of Des Moines, Iowa; two sisters, Edie Wickham of Torrington, Wyo., and Sarah Kirk of Cheyenne, Wyo.
Viewing will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 15, at Beals Mortuary Chapel with memorial services at 10 am. Tuesday, Nov. 16 at the United Community Church in Colstrip. Beals Mortuary of Forsyth is assisting the family with the arrangements.

Dona Mae King
SHERIDAN, Wyo. - Dona Mae King of Sheridan passed away on Friday, Nov. 12, 1999, at Memorial Hospital of Sheridan at the age of 65.
Dona was born on March 28, 1934, in Crow Agency, Mont., to James and Blanche McKelvey Stanton. She had lived in Sheridan for 45 years. She taught and loved to play the piano and was very involved in the music group at the First Baptist Church. Dona's pride and joy were her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Charlotte Turner, in 1993.
Survivors include her three children, James Allison of Big Horn, Wyo., Arthur Allison Jr. of Roswell, Ga., and Judy Allison Collins of Cheyenne, Wyo.; four brothers, Russell Selles of Tacoma, Wash., Clark Stanton of Billings, Mont., Harold Stanton of Hardin, Mont., and Wendell Stanton of Billings, Mont.; five grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
Cremation has taken place, and at the family's request, private services will be held in Hardin, Mont. Kane Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be sent to the American Heart Association in care of Delphine Toner, First Interstate Bank, P.O. Box 2007, Sheridan, Wyo., 82801.

Jean (Cramer) Lund
LIVINGSTON - Jean (Cramer) Lund, 77, died Friday, Nov. 12, 1999, at Livingston Health & Rehab Center.
Cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Franzen-Davis Funeral Home. Burial of the cremated remains will be in Mountain View cemetery.

Clifford Bruce Singer, Jr.
LODGE GRASS - Clifford Bruce Singer, Jr., died suddenly Friday, Nov. 12, 1999 at his home near Lodge Grass.
De'axkaash Bassaash "Leading Eagle" was born Oct. 26, 1944, in Crow Agency, a son of Clifford Singer, Sr. and Pearl Big Shoulder. He was raised by Mr. and Mrs. John Cummins, Sr. and Annie Singer, attending schools in Crow Agency and Lodge Grass before graduating from the Haskell Institute in Lawrence, Kan., in 1963. He later received an advanced degree in carpentry in 1965.
Cliff married Dianne Corbett on May 1, 1965, in Lawrence, Kan., and the couple made their home in Lodge Grass.
He worked for the Bureau of Indian Affairs at the Crow Agency water plant for many years and later became facility manager, retiring after nearly 30 years of service. Following his retirement he dedicated his activities to assisting all youth, either coaching football, track and wrestling or operating an after-school program. He also substitute taught in the Lodge Grass and Crow Agency schools. During his younger years he actively participated in softball and was often selected as an All-Star pitcher.
Cliff took part in traditional Crow events, including arrow throwing, serving as the anchor to the Black Lodge District while winning the Senior Arrow Tournament. In his spare time, he enjoyed being outdoors and hunting.
He was a member of the Catholic Church, Big Lodge Clan, a child of the Whistling Water Clan, Retired Federal Employees and the Night Hawk Society.
His moat recent job was working for the Crow School as a recreation director. He enjoyed working with all the young children, especially the two young girls that deeply touched his heart, Ashley and Ariel.
Survivors include his wife, Dianne; six sons, Larry Dale (Lisa) of Rocky Boy, Michael of Dunmore, Presston (Deidra) of Billings, Darren (Rhonda), Clifton and Herschel Singer, all of Lodge Grass; five adopted sons, Leroy Wallace of Lodge Grass, Tiger Bastein, Terrance Springfield, Warren Jefferson, Jr. and Jarvis Gust; seven brothers, Larry (Verna) Costa, Adam (Bernice) Singer and Dennis (Roberta) Big Hair, Jr. of Billings, Ted Hogan of Arizona, Claude (Marvilla) Dawes, Jr. of Pryor, Clayton (Felistus) Mountain Pocket and Victor (Janice) Singer of Crow Agency; seven adopted brothers, Bruce Amour of Wyoming, Oliver Costa of Pryor, John Cummins, Jr. of Lodge Grass, Dale and Jack Old Horn of Dunmore, Andrew Old Elk and Harold Hill, Sr. of Crow Agency; 11 sisters, Martha (Bill) Big Day, Ardith Hogan, Susan (Tyrone) White Clay and Bonnie Hawk of Lodge Grass, Elsie Pretty Paint and Belva Tashka of Dunmore, Lori Ann Pretty Paint and Pansy Williamson of Crow Agency, Betty Caufleld, Irma Jane Bird Hat and Marlene Comes Up of Pryor; 13 grandchildren and all members of the Cummins and Hill families of Lodge Grass.
Rosary will be recited at 4 p.m. Monday in the Bullis Funeral Chapel. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the Crow Agency St. Dennis Catholic Church. Interment will follow in the Crow Agency cemetery.
Bullis Mortuary of Hardin has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Forrest 'Bill' Allen
EMBLEM, Wyo. - Forrest W. "Bill" Allen, 57, died Tuesday, Nov. 9, 1999, as a result of injuries received in a motor vehicle accident near Burlington.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 15, at Ballard Funeral Home in Cody with interment in the Crown Hill cemetery in Powell.

LeRoy S. Burch
LEWISTOWN - LeRoy S. Burch, 86, of Lewistown, died early Thursday morning in Kalispell of natural causes. He was born Sept. 8, 1913, in Great Falls, the son of Roy and Edna (Holmquist) Burch and was the oldest of six children. The family lived in Chester until 1925 when they moved by horse and wagon to a ranch at Heath, near Lewistown.
Leroy had worked on Fort Peck Dam and helped build the Heath Community Hall. He worked for the Forest Service from 1938 to 1941. He ran his own trucks until he purchased the Allis-Chalmers dealership in Lewistown in 1956. He operated the dealership until 1962 when he returned to his favorite vocation, ranching. He worked with cattle on the ranch at Heath until retiring in 1975. This kind and gentle man will be greatly missed.
In 1942 he was united in marriage to Katherine Brevig in Lewistown.
LeRoy was a life member of the Eagles Lodge, Friendship Lodge No. 39 AF & AM, Charter Member of the Sons of Norway, a member of the Zion Lutheran Church since 1943, and served on the Board of Directors of Fergus Electric Cooperative, serving as chairman of the building committee when the present headquarters was built.
He is survived by his wife of Lewistown; one son, Bob and his wife, Joleen of Kalispell; three granddaughters: Kelley Hatfield and her husband, Jeff, and Jodee Perkins and her husband, Edward, both of Columbia Falls, and Jennifer Burch of Billings; two sisters: Alice Miller of Lewistown and Doris Hall of Kalispell; and the other lights of his life were his eight great-granddaughters and several nieces and nephews.
His parents, two brothers and one sister preceded him in death.
Funeral Services for Leroy S. Burch will be Monday at 2 p.m. in the Cloyd Chapel with interment to follow in Central Montana Memorial Gardens of Lewistown. The Cloyd Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Friends may make memorials to Alzheimer's Foundation and they may be left at the Cloyd Funeral Home.

Harrison Dean Michael Fiske
Harrison Dean Michael Fiske died Nov. 11, 1999, at Deaconess Medical Center. He was born July 1, 1999, in Billings, the son of Richelle Lynn Shay and Stevan Fiske.
Harrison is survived by his parents; one sister, Eulalia Joe; a half-brother, Stevie Fiske; maternal grandparents, Richard and Jean "Joe" Shay of Billings; paternal grandparents, Stan and Cindi Fiske of Spokane, Wash., and Linda Fiske of Billings; and great-grandmother, Ethel Anderson, also of Billings.
Harrison was such a good little baby boy. He had a smile that filled the room with sunshine.
Visitations will begin Sunday afternoon at the Smith Downtown Chapel. Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 15, at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, 1241 Crawford Drive, with interment to follow at Mountview cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Vincent's NICU or the charity of one's choice.
We love you Harry and will miss you, we will always have you in our hearts and prayers...

James 'Vince' German
James "Vince" German died Wednesday, Nov. 10, 1999, after a long, courageous battle with emphysema.
Vince was born July 11, 1942, in Oklahoma. He was the son of Mildred and Harvey German. Vince spent his early childhood near Neosho, Mo. This was always Vince's favorite place. When he was 12, the family moved to Richmond, Va. After serving in the U.S. Air Force, Vince settled in Billings. He belonged to the Laborer's Local 98, until his retirement in 1993. In 1987, Vince married the love of his life, Susan Gaines Werness. Together they traveled the country, picked wildflowers and shared their dreams. Vince's greatest passion was the time he spent with his friends.
Survivors include his wife Susan, brother Vic, many friends and Shasta and Puppy.
An obituary cannot express how many lives Vince touched and what an outstanding person he truly was. A gathering of friends will be held at a later date. Vince, we will always miss you, but we know that you are finally free.

Antonia 'Toni' Gjesdal
SIDNEY - Antonia "Toni" Frances Gjesdal, 71, formerly of Westby, died Wednesday, Nov. 10, 1999, at her home.
Visitation will be 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 13; 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 14; and 9 a.m.-noon Monday, Nov. 15, at Fulkerson Funeral Home; and 1-2 p.m. Monday at the Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church. Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the church with interment in the Sidney cemetery.

Daisy Viola Keil
BOZEMAN - Daisy Viola Keil, 95, died Wednesday, Nov. 10, 1999, in Bozeman.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 15, at the Dokken-Nelson Sunset Chapel with interment in Sunset Hills cemetery.

Fred Kuhlman
HUNTLEY - Fred Kuhlman, of Huntley, died on Friday, Nov. 12. He was 94. His wife, Fay Merrifield Kuhlman, preceded him in death in 1975. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Robert Kuhlman, and a sister, Evlyn Ellison.
Fred was born in Loveland, Colo., July 10, 1905, to Charles and Minnie Wilkinson Kuhlman. They moved to Joliet when Fred was very young and then to Billings. Fred and Fay were married in Red Lodge on Nov. 10, 1928. In 1962, they moved to Bearcreek where Fred continued his dragline work and Fay was mayor of Bearcreek for several years. In 1982, Fred moved to Huntley to live with his youngest son, John.
Fred is survived by a sister, Edith Rachmanow of San Diego, Calif., and three children: Fred A. Kuhlman of Billings, Sharoll Kuhlman Hartson (Jim) of Stevensville, and John (Jack) Kuhlman (Vada) of Huntley; 14 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.
Fred was a long-time Mason and a member of Rimrock Lodge 149 in Billings and Star of the West Lodge No. 40 in Red Lodge.
Masonic memorial services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Simplicity Burial and Cremation Services.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Masonic Eye Foundation or the Shrine Children's Hospital Transportation Trust Fund.

Agnes M. Russell
BUSBY - Agnes M. Russell, 62, of Busby, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 10, 1999, at her home.
She was born Feb. 16, 1937, in Busby, a daughter of John Russell Sr. and Alice Rising Sun. She grew up and received her education in Busby. Agnes was well known for her fry bread and the making of dried meat. She was a Chief's Society Daughter and a member of the Busby White River Mennonite Church.
Survivors include two sons, Horace (Jermaine) Little Sun Jr. and Merlin (Jeri) Little Sun of Lame Deer; six daughters, Dyann (Dale) Phipps of Cheyenne, Wyo., Renita (Elmer) Ogle, Rebecca (Abe) Little Sun, Alice (Robert) Little Sun, Betsy (Duane) Swank Sr. and Katrina Little Sun of Busby; two brothers, Eugene (Wanda) Russell of Busby and John (Thomasine) Russell Jr. of Lame Deer; two sisters, Elva and Elsie Russell of Busby; an adopted daughter, Patricia Limpy of Busby; an adopted brother, Justin (Barbara) Jenkins of Musselshell; two special granddaughters, Trina Little Sun and Lajuanna Haugen; a special niece, Estelle Armentrout; 27 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Wake services will be held 7 p.m. Sunday in the family home near Busby. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday in the Busby White River Mennonite Church with Rev. Willis Busenitz officiating. Interment will follow in the Family cemetery. Bullis Mortuary of Hardin has been entrusted with the arrangements.

John Earl Tjornhom
'Chic'
BELGRADE - John Earl Tjornhom, "Chic, " age 70, of Belgrade, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Nov. 9, 1999. He was a loving husband and father and a source of great support for many friends and loved ones.
He was preceded in death by mother and father, Nan and Nat Tjornhom, and three brothers, Marvin, Ralph, and David. He is survived by loving wife, Harriet of Belgrade; daughters, Rebecca Tjornhom of W. St. Paul, Minn., and Julie (Roger) Velasquez of Inver Grove Heights, Minn.; sons, Randall (Melanie) of St. Paul, Minn., and Paul (Karin) of Auburn, Calif.; stepdaughters, Shelly (Shawn) Koenig of Bozeman, Maggie (Dennis) Dickinson of Bayport, Minn., Christine (Danny) Martin of Beaudette, Minn.; stepson, Greg Barkacs of Belgrade; grandchildren, Ruth and Samuel Tjornhom, Matthew Velasquez, Jack and Alexa Tjornhom, Angela Moore, Elizabeth and Jenna Bauer, Ashley and Albert Koenig; brother, James (Joyce) Tjornhom of Eagan, Minn.; sisters-in-law, Jane of Bradenton, Fla.; and Jeanne of Minnetonka, Minn.; and former wife, Ann Leitze of Mendota Heights, Minn.; nieces and nephews; and extensive loving friends and associates.
Chic was born and raised in the Midway area of St. Paul where he attended St. Paul Central High School, Augsburg College (Minneapolis) and Macalester College (St. Paul). He was a member of the Par 4 Quartet, which was the official quartet of the St. Paul Winter Carnival for 10 years and which also performed on the "Arthur Godfrey Talent Scouts" show in New York.
He served with the Minnesota National Guard for over 15 years where he acquired his training in photography and later opened his own business, Chic Photos. He dedicated most of his life to AA and Alanon in which he touched countless lives in his 27 years of sobriety, including time spent as a volunteer counselor with his good friend, Ric MacKenzie at the Christ Center of the St. Paul Union Gospel Mission.
In 1987, Chic and Harriet moved to Montana where they have lived and worked up to the present time. Chic was a member of the St. Paul Barbershop Chorus and the Bozeman Chapter of the Chord Rustler Barbershop Chorus. He was the baritone with his Bozeman re-creation of the Par 4 Quartet which entertained for various functions throughout the Bozeman valley. Chic was very active in the congregations in which he was a member: Immanuel and North Heights Lutheran churches (St. Paul); United Methodist Church (Bozeman); and served on numerous commissions, as well as singing with the choir.
Wherever Chic has been, he has brought great joy to those that were fortunate to be in his presence. He will be sorely missed by his loving family and numerous friends.
Memorial Services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 16, at the Bozeman United Methodist Church. Cremation has taken place at the Bozeman-Belgrade Crematory. Interment of ashes will take place at a later date in St. Paul.
