Wilma Maude Metcalfe
LODGE GRASS - Wilma Maude Metcalfe, 92, of Lodge Grass, passed away Sunday, Nov. 7, 1999, in the Big Horn County Memorial Nursing Home.
She was born March 1, 1907, in Council Grove, Kan., a daughter of O.L. and Anna Wiggins Burnett. She grew up and received her education in Kansas. She taught in a one-room school for several years in Kansas.
Wilma married Ralph Metcalfe on Feb. 14, 1928, in Council Grove. She and her husband began a farming operation and in 1934 purchased four tractor drawn combines and then became pioneers in "custom cutting, " harvesting crops for other farmers, following the harvest as crops ripened from Texas to Canada, stopping to harvest their own crops as they passed through Kansas.
In the late 1930s, she and her husband leased farmland on the Crow Indian Reservation near Lodge Grass, where the couple built a house next to town. They purchased a portion of farmland and later sold the land in 1977.
Wilma was a member of the Little Brown Church in Lodge Grass, Lodge Grass Grandmothers Club and Farmers Union Association. She initiated a 4-H Club and continued as a leader for 25 years. She was preceded in death by her husband and two sons, Harold and Alan.
Survivors include one son, Ray Metcalfe of Anchorage, Alaska; four daughters, Luanne Johnston of Dallas, Texas, Margaret Strohecker of Casper, Wyo., Thelma Fellows of New York City, N.Y., and Mary Gerlach of Bozeman; nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday in the Bullis Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow in the Hardin Fairview cemetery. Bullis Mortuary of Hardin has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Orlando J. Wall
LUSTRE - Orlando J. "O.J." Wall, 90, died Saturday, Nov. 6, 1999, at the Faith Lutheran Home.
Visitation will be 9 a.m.-8 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 9, at the Clayton Memorial Chapel in Wolf Point. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 10, at the Lustre M.B. Church with interment in the Lustre E.M.B. cemetery.

Geneva M. Krusee
GREYBULL, Wyo. - Geneva Marie Krusee, 82, of Greybull, died Friday, Nov. 5, 1999, in Sun City, Ariz.
Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 9, at the Atwood Family Chapel. Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 10, in the Hillside cemetery.

Thelma L. Rodgers
SHERIDAN, Wyo. - Thelma L. Kinnaman Rodgers, 90, died Friday, Nov. 5, 1999, at her home.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 9, at Holy Name Catholic Church with interment in the Elks Section of the Sheridan cemetery. Ferries Funeral Home is in charge.

James Gerald Holcomb
BIG TIMBER - James Gerald Holcomb, 55, formerly of Laurel, died Wednesday, Nov. 3, 1999, at his home.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 12, at the Big Timber Lutheran Church with interment in the Laurel cemetery. Smith Funeral Chapel-Laurel is in charge.

Dusty Erb
LAUREL - Dusty Erb, our beloved son, grandson, brother, nephew and cousin went to join his late granddad, Myron Erb, on Friday Nov. 5, 1999, after an accident at his home. Dusty was born June 17, 1986, in Billings.
He loved animals and God's great outdoors where he rode his Honda ATV, hunted and fished. Dusty inherited great mechanical dexterity from his grandfather and father - he loved to take things apart to see how they worked and then put them back together.
Dusty played on the school football team this year and was looking forward to joining the ski club. Dusty will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Survivors include his father, Larry M. Erb of Laurel; his mother, Tracy Wilkinson of Glendale, Ariz.; his sister, Terry Stokes of Glendale; his paternal grandmother, Isabel Erb of Laurel; his maternal grandmother, Beverly Hardy of Billings; his aunt, Shirley A. Hill of Laurel; his uncles, Scott Swope of Leavenworth, Kan., and Steve Boviall of Glendale; his cousins: Jim, Shawna, Bryan and Steven Wilson, Vince, Kenda and Carson Hill, and Sherrol Myers, all of whom, along with his grandfather, Myron Erb, played a big part in Dusty's life.
Memorial graveside services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 10, at the Laurel cemetery. Memorials are suggested to ZooMontana Sensory Garden, Box 80905, Billings, Mont. 59108. Smith Funeral Chapel-Laurel was in charge of cremation and services.

Russell A. Kniefel
Russell A. Kniefel, 65, of Billings, passed away Saturday at the St. Vincent Hospital after a short illness. He was born April 10, 1934, in Medford, Minn., a son of Bernard and Louise Kniefel. Russ received his education in Medford and worked on several farms in Minnesota. He served in the Army during the Korean Conflict and moved to Montana in 1968.
He was employed with Midland Packing 13 years and later was associated with Industrial Gas Distributors until his retirement in 1997. He married Glenda Miloff in 1975. Russ enjoyed training horses and loved to fly radio controlled airplanes.
Survivors include his wife, Glenda; two stepsons, Dwight (Debby) Miloff and Craig (Sandy) Miloff; one stepdaughter, Colleen Riggins; six grandchildren; one sister, Vivian (Reinhold) Heiss; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.
Cremation has been held. Memorial will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Cremation or Funeral Gallery, 8th St. W. and St. John's; memorials to Flying Mustang Airplane Club c/o P.O. Box 22406, Billings, MT 59104. In charge was Cremation or Funeral Gallery.

Thomas J. "Jerry" Walshe
Thomas J. "Jerry" Walshe, 76 of Billings, passed away Sunday morning, Nov. 7, 1999, at Deaconess Medical Center. He was born in Grand Forks, N.D., on Sept. 16, 1923, the son of Thomas and Mary (Horkey) Walshe.
The family moved to Pompeys Pillar when Jerry was 12 years old. He graduated from Sacred Heart High School in Miles City in 1942. That same year, he joined the Navy, serving four years. He was in the first group to go ashore in Japan when World War II ended. On Jan. 18, 1947, Jerry married Birdie Althoff. In 1950, he was a reservist called back to the Korean War for two years.
Jerry worked as a salesman for Westinghouse Electric and retired in 1987. After retirement, he and Birdie spent many enjoyable summers as members of Big Horn Basin Boat Club fishing and using their trailer by the Buffalo Bill reservoir. Several winters were spent at Overton, Nev. Jerry was a member of the Elks Lodge, the American Legion, and St. Patrick's Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife, Birdie; his son, Mark (Karen) Walshe of Billings; his daughter, Cheri (Ted) Zagurski of Aurora, Colo.; four grandchildren, Keely Walshe of Boston, Mass., Patrick Walshe of Billings, and T.J. and Triston Zagurski of Aurora; his sister, Margaret Nelson of Jordan; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral mass will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 10, at St. Thomas the Apostle Church. Rite of Committal with military honors will be in Holy Cross cemetery. Memorials may be sent to the charity of one's choice. Michelotti, Sawyers & Nordquist has charge of arrangements.

Eva 'Curley' Van Haele
HYSHAM - Eva "Curley" Van Haele, 81 of Hysham, died Friday, Nov. 5, 1999, at the St. John's Lutheran Home in Billings.
Eva Elizabeth Thompson was born April 1, 1918, in Hamden Township, Becker County, Minn., the daughter of Ralph and Lucille Mott Thompson. She grew up and attended schools in Golva, N.D., Waco and Forsyth. During her high schools years, Eva received her nickname "Curley" because of her curly hair.
On Oct. 18, 1938, Curley married Patrick Van Haele at Howard. Pat and Curley were blessed with three children, Patty, Tom and Mike. They lived in Forsyth until 1950 when they moved to Hysham. She continued to live in Hysham following Pat's death in 1988 and later moved to Billings in 1996 where she has lived since.
Curley was generous and unselfish; her main interest was caring for her family and friends. She bowled on a team in her late 70s and also enjoyed shopping, walking, school and community activities. Curley was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Custer, the Senior Citizens and Sugar and Spice, both in Hysham.
She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Seader and her husband, John of Billings; two sons, Thomas and his wife, Karen of Hysham, Michael of Billings; her mother, Lucille Thompson of Forsyth; three brothers, Henry (Tommy) Thompson of Moreno Valley, Calif., Alfred (Bud) Thompson and his wife, Mary of Forsyth, Edwin (Ed) Thompson of Billings; seven grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson. Curley was preceded in death by her husband, Pat; her father; her brothers, Russell, Charles, Palmer; and sisters, Alvina, Dorothy, Alpha (Shorty), Elenore and Donna Mae.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 9, at the Hysham Community Presbyterian Church. Interment will follow in the Hysham cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 2 Poly Drive, Billings, MT 59101 or the Treasure County 89er's, Hysham, MT 59038. Beals Mortuary of Forsyth is in charge of the arrangements.

William D. Hammond
BUFFALO, Wyo. - William David Hammond, 80, of Buffalo, died Friday, Nov. 5, 1999, in Sheridan.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 10, at St. Luke's Episcopal Church with interment in Willow Grove cemetery. Adams Funeral Home is in charge.

Florence Muckelvane
SCOBEY - Florence Muckelvane, 81, died Saturday, Nov. 6, 1999, at the Daniels Memorial Nursing Home.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 10, at the Assembly of God Church with interment in Scobey cemetery. Waller Funeral Home is in charge.

Sonja Arthur
CASPER, Wyo. - Sonja Arthur, 48, of Casper, formerly of Hardin, Mont., died Wednesday, Nov. 3.
Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Monday in the Bullis Funeral Chapel. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Hardin St. Joseph Catholic Church with burial in the Fairview cemetery.

Delight Bruce
RAPELJE - Delight Bruce, 80, died Wednesday, Nov. 3, near her home.
Cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 13, at Smith Funeral Chapel-Columbus.

Dorothy Elizabeth Dillon
SHOSHONI, Wyo. - Dorothy Elizabeth Dillon, 79, died Friday, Nov. 5, at Canyon Hills Manor.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Mortimore Funeral Home with burial in Riverside cemetery, both in Thermopolis.

Ruth Evelyn Gennings
THERMOPOLIS, Wyo. - Ruth Evelyn Gennings, 79, died Wednesday in Thermopolis.
Cremation has taken place. No services will be held. Mortimore Funeral Home was in charge.

Clarence A. Herbert Sr.
LAUREL - Clarence A. Herbert, Sr., 83, of Laurel, passed away Saturday, Nov. 6, 1999, at the Laurel Evergreen Health Care Center
As a child, Clarence was raised by the late Martha Coombs and attended Laurel schools. He was employed by his father, Henry Herbert, at the Davis Transfer & Storage Co.
He served with the 11th Horse Calvary and transferred to the 3rd Army Tank Corps under General Patton in the "Battle of The Bulge" in Baston and also served in the Normandy invasion.
He retired in 1981 from the BNRR after serving 18 years as clerk and served as past Post Commander of VFW "Billie Price" Post in Laurel. Clarence also served in the Laurel Volunteer Fire Dept. until his retirement and was proud of being one of the members with the most time served.
Clarence was an avid horseman and was respected for his horsemanship. He enjoyed old cars and the "Big Sky Country" of Montana. He will be remembered for his quick smile, his dry sense of humor and his love of horses.
Clarence is survived by his wife of 23 years, Angie (Rae) Herbert of Laurel and a son, Clarence A. Herbert, of Park City, and a step-daughter Dianna Rae of Billings.
He was preceded in death by his parents and twin brothers Chester Herbert and Lester Herbert. Cremation has taken place and private family services with military honors will be held.
Smith Funeral Chapel-Laurel was in charge of cremation and family services.

Carol Koehmstedt Kolar
JOLIET - Carol Koehmstedt Kolar, 67 of Joliet, Mont., died on Thursday, Nov. 4, 1999, at St. Vincent's Hospital in Billings after a brief illness from pancreatic cancer. Cremation has taken place.
Carol was born in Overly, N.D., on Dec. 14, 1931, to Leo Edward and Marie Leda Koehmstedt. She attended schools in Overly and the Ursaline Academy in Great Falls, Mont. In June of 1952, she graduated from the College of St. Scholastica, Duluth. Minn., with a degree in English and Library Science. She taught in Chinook and Miles City, Mont., Peoria, Ariz., and Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She later received a Masters Degree in Library Science from the University of Minnesota and became head reference librarian at Colorado State in Greeley and at North Dakota State University in Fargo.
Carol and James V. Kolar were married on Oct. 14, 1975, in Fargo, N.D., and made their home together in Joliet.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Lloyd and Thomas. She is survived by her sister, Patricia Cox, of Pinetop, Ariz.; brother, Donald Koehmstedt of Overly, N.D.; sister-in-law, Greta Koehmstedt of Rugby, N.D.; her niece, Kristianne Cox of Portland, Ore.; her nephews, Patrick and Susan Cox of Torrance, Calif., and Karl and Brenda Koehmstedt, of Overly, N.D.
A Memorial Mass and Rosary will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 8, 1999, at St. Johns Catholic Church in Joliet. Memorials may be made in Carol's name to the charity of your choice. The family requests no flowers.
