Alvin Patrick Murphy
MILES CITY - Alvin Patrick Murphy, age 82, of Miles City, passed away Thursday, Jan. 27, 2000, at the Holy Rosary Extended Care Unit.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 31, at the First United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in the family lot in the Custer County cemetery. Stevenson and Sons Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Roger O. Nasset
SIDNEY - Roger O. Nasset, 54, died at his home Jan. 25, 2000.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 31, at the Fulkerson Memorial Chapel. Interment will be in the Sidney cemetery.

Bill Petersen
WESTBY - Funeral services for Bill Petersen will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 31, 2000. Pastor Barbara Westhoff will officiate at the service at Emmanuel Lutheran Church on the western entrance of Westby. Interment will be in the Emmaus cemetery (6 miles from mile marker 19.4 on highway 5 west of Westby). Mr. Petersen died Thursday morning, two days before his 94th birthday.
Bill was born in Menominie, Wis., the son of Peter (P.C.) Petersen and Mette (Nielsen) Petersen. They came to the area in 1908. Bill attended county school and went to Fargo School of Mechanics for a short time.
He later worked the Plentywood to Westby highway project, as well as later in Sidney picking sugar beets. He began farming in the North Coalridge area in 1929. He met and later married Solveig "Si" Hove on July 1, 1943, at the Plentywood Lutheran Church. Bill was one of the last three remaining charter members of the Emmaus Lutheran Church of rural Westby, which closed one year ago. He served on the Westby farmers grain and trade board of directors for 34 years. He also served on the Emmaus Church board, as well as a member of the school board for District 34.
Farming was Bill's love and life. He was involved with the daily operations of the farm right up until the day of his death. He will be remembered for his dry sense of humor and kind heartedness and concern for others.
Bill is preceded in death by his wife of 44 years, "Si" Petersen; his parents; his infant sister, Agnes Petersen; his sisters, Elna Wagenson, Lillian Palmer, Mabel Boyer and his brother, Harry Petersen.
Bill is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Rick and Beatie Petersen of the family farm of Westby; nephew, Duane Wagenson and his wife, Dorothy of Plentywood; brother, Carl Petersen of Plentywood; sisters, Alice Smart of Alta Loma, Calif., Freda Hague of Plentywood and Esther Olson of Helena; granddaughters, Jodi Pedersen, her husband, Rob and their son, Jarett of Froid, Mont., Wendi Taylor and her husband, Ryan of Billings and numerous nieces and nephews.
Fulkerson Funeral Home of Plentywood is in charge of arrangements.

Esther Potts
HARDIN - Our mother Esther Potts passed away Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2000. She had resided at the Heritage Acres Nursing Home in Hardin the last 13 years due to complications of a stroke. Even though she was disabled, her mind was always bright and witty. She enjoyed family gatherings and visiting with friends old and new.
Mom kept her wonderful sense of humor and always enjoyed a good joke. Mom was an excellent cook and we will always remember her delicious pies and the wonderful homemade candies she made, especially at Christmas time.
Esther was born July 4, 1921, a daughter of George and Mollie Groskop Dumler in Haigville, Neb. She moved to Montana in 1930 with her parents and two brothers.
She married Harold Potts May 18, 1940, in Red Lodge, and they made their home in Custer where they raised four children.
Esther was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 50 years, who passed away Jan. 4, 1996; and two brothers, Herman and George Dumler.
She is survived by her four children, Sharon (Jerry) Engle of Whitehall, Dennis (Virginia) Potts of Sheridan, Wyo., Linda Slattery and Loretta (Chuck) Davis of Hardin; eight grandchildren, J.D. (Deb) Engle of Bozeman, Lisa (D.W.) Eiler of Billings, Lori (Armando) Valdez of Savannah, Ga., Leann (Michael) Gilberg and Ivy Slattery of Boise, Idaho, Steven Davis, Denny and Jason Potts of Hardin; five great-grandchildren, Erica Pitsch, Kacie Engle, Kenadi Eiler, Madison Eller and Jack Valdes. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Bill (Betty) Potts of Rosebud; sisters-in-law, Marie Dumler of Billings, Edith Potts of Huntley, Doris Potts of Park City and numerous nieces and nephews.
Cremation has taken place. Memorial Graveside services will be held 12 p.m. Monday, Jan. 31, in the Custer cemetery.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Heritage Acres for their kindness and special care given to our mother.
Our Hearts are filled with sorrow, there is little we can say, only time and our memories can comfort us since God has taken you away. We love you mom - rest in peace. Bullis Mortuary of Hardin has been entrusted with the arrangements.
Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to the Custer Congregational Church, Custer Park, or Heritage Acres.

Mildred Spomer
GLENDIVE - Mildred Florence Parsons Spomer, 89, died on Thursday, Jan. 27, 2000, at the Glendive Medical Center.
Graveside services with interment will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 4, in the Klamath Memorial cemetery in Klamath Falls, Ore. Silvernale-Silha Funeral Home of Glendive is in charge.

William H. Sugg Sr.
GLASGOW - William Henry Sugg Sr., 72, died Friday, Jan. 28, 2000, at Valley View Home of natural causes.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 1, at the Calvary Baptist Church in Glasgow. Interment will be in Highland cemetery. Bell Mortuary is in charge.

Margaret R. Sunderland
MALTA - Margaret R. Sunderland, age 90, died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2000, at the Phillips County Good Samaritan Center.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 31, at the Malta Assembly of God Church. A reception will follow the funeral service and burial will be in the Grandview cemetery in Saco at 4 p.m. Adams Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Ragnhild 'Ronnie' Von Kuster
SCOBEY - Ragnhild "Ronn" Von Kuster, 90, died Wednesday, Jan 26, at the Daniels Memorial Nursing Home.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 29, at the Scobey Lutheran Church. Interment will be in the Scobey cemetery. Waller Funeral Home is in charge.

Margaret F. Wallin
Margaret R. Wallin, 83, died Friday, Jan. 28, 2000, at Western Manor Health Care Center.
Cremation has taken place and no services are planned. Michelotti, Sawyers & Nordquist is in charge.

Mack Casillos
Mack Casillos, 74, of Billings, died Monday, Jan. 24, 2000, at the Parkview Care Center.
Cremation will take place at Smith's Crematory. Smith Downtown Funeral Chapel is in charge.

John H. Day
NAMPA, Idaho - John H. Day, 85,formerly of Missoula and Columbus, Mont., died on Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2000, at a Nampa hospital.
Graveside funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 28, at the Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, Caldwell. Alsip Funeral Chapel of Nampa is in charge. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Idaho Parkinson's Disease Center, 1055 N. Curtis Road, Boise, Idaho 83706.

Dorothy Jean Hilligardt Frazier
Dorothy Jean Hilligardt Frazier, 78 of Billings, died on Wednesday afternoon, Jan. 26, 2000, at home with her daughter, Polly Jackson and granddaughter, Stephanie Jackson, MD, at her side.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 29, at the LDS Church at 2929 Belvedere Drive. Burial will be in the Riverview cemetery in Needles, Calif. Michelotti, Sawyers & Nordquist has charge of local arrangements.

Gaylia June Hamilton
SHERIDAN, Wyo. - Gaylia June Hamilton, 67, died Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2000, at Westview Health Care Center.
Visitation will be held from 7-9 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 28, at Kane Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 29, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church. Interment will follow in the Sheridan Municipal cemetery.

Sonia R. Lloyd
TAYLORSVILLE, Utah - Sonia R. Lloyd passed away on Jan. 25, 2000, in Taylorsville, after a seven-year battle with cancer. She was born Aug. 18, 1958, in Jordan, Mont., to Hugh and Mary Ostler Brindley. The second of three children, Sonia battled the "ordeal of being the middle child" all her life.
She was a member of the LDS Church. She attended Winnett High School, where she competed at the state level in track and basketball. She graduated from high school in 1976 and from Ricks College in, Rexburg, Idaho, in 1978. She completed her education at Brigham Young University.
Sonia married Clark Lloyd on April 18, 1980, in Idaho Falls Temple. To this union were born three sons and one daughter, Ethan, Seth, Mary and Tanner.
Sonia was very proud of her children and their accomplishments. She had a great love for her family and a wonderful ability to communicate with others, even total strangers. She had an uncanny sense of humor and loved to tease. Her family will always remember her feisty wit and sharp temper, yet she had a heart of gold, ready to help and uplift those in need. She was an accomplished musician and loved the piano. She had an amazing talent for tole painting and always painted at least two items, one for herself and one for someone special. Sonia enjoyed cross-stitching and was a fabulous cook. There was always a sweet treat and chocolate when Sonia was around.
She is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Clark; sons, Ethan Clark, Seth Robert, and J. Tanner; parents, Hugh and Mary Brindley; Clark's parents, Harold and Enid Lloyd; sister, Patricia Hess (Loren); brother, Matt Brindley (Libby); four brothers-in-law, three sisters-in-law, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a daughter Mary and three grandparents.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 29, at the Westwood Heights 1st Ward, 3950 W. Dimrall St. (5585 So.). Friends may call Friday 6-8 p.m. at the Jenkins-Soffe Mortuary, 4760 S. State and Saturday at the church 9 -9:45 a.m. Interment Murray City cemetery.

Margaret Z. Manning
HYSHAM - Margaret Zent Manning, 98, died Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2000, at the St. Vincent Hospital and Health Center in Billings.
Rosary will be recited at 9:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 31, at the St. Joseph Catholic Church with Funeral Mass celebrated at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at the Hysham cemetery. Memorials may be made to the St. Joseph's Altar Society, P.O. Box 226, Hysham, MT 59038 or the charity of choice. Beals Mortuary of Forsyth is in charge.

Roger O. Nasset
SIDNEY - Roger O. Nasset, 54, died at his home on Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2000.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 31, at the Fulkerson Memorial Chapel, Sidney. Interment will be in the Sidney cemetery.

William Petersen
PLENTYWOOD -William "Bill" Petersen, 93, died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2000, at the Sheridan Memorial Nursing Home.
Services are pending.

Winston Watt
MILES CITY - Winston Watt, 87, died Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2000, at his home near Ashland.
Visitation will be held from 1-6 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 30, at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Broadus. Graveside services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 31, at the Family Ranch.

Jerry W. Whittington
Jerry W. Whittington, 53, died Sunday, Jan. 23, 2000, as a result of an airplane wreck. Jerry was born April 22, 1946, in Hamilton, Ohio. He is the son of Gene and Wilma Whittington. He attended school in Creswell, Ore., and graduated from Creswell High School in 1965. Jerry came to Montana in 1966 where he met and married Deanna Gullion June 23, 1973.
He worked as a bodyman at Frontier Chevrolet, Archie Cochran Ford and Duck's Body and Paint. Jerry's interests included hunting and fishing; of these, fishing was his passion. He felt nearest to Jesus his savior when he was fishing and hunting and could see God in the beauty of nature.
He is survived by his wife, Deanna of Billings; two daughters, Koreen (Jeff) Lowenstein and Falon Whittington, both of Billings; one grandchild, Katlyn Lowenstein. He is also survived by his parents, Gene and Wilma Whittington of Creswell; his brother, Dennis (Annette) Whittington of Creswell; a sister, Dee (Ron) Smith of Springfield, Ore.; nieces and nephews.
We all love you and will miss you very much!
Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 29, at Lockwood Evangelical Church, 1413 Rosebud Lane. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lockwood Evangelical Church.

Cecil L. Hanner
WILSALL - Cecil L. Hanner, 77, of Wilsall, and former Gardiner area resident, died Wednesday morning Jan. 26, 2000, at Livingston Memorial Hospital. Cremation has taken place at Franzen-Davis Crematory in Livingston and no services are planned.
Cecil was born July 22, 1922, in Sioux City, Iowa, the son of Clair and Pearl (Tobin) Hanner. He spent his early life and attended schools there and, following his graduation from high school, he entered the U. S. Army. During WWII, he served on Guam in the South Pacific.
Following his discharge, he returned to Iowa and then attended business school for a time in Chicago. On Feb. 21, 1948, he married Catherine Dean in Farmington, N.M. Cecil began a career with the U. S. government by joining the Civilian Conservation Corps. He later went to work with the National Park Service, coming to work in Yellowstone National Park in 1964.
He retired in the mid-1970s and moved to Wilsall. His wife, Catherine, died in 1991. On April 12, 1991, he married Anne Hotchkiss in Belle Fourche, S.D. The couple has made Wilsall their home.
Cecil was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and was an avid gardener.
Survivors include his wife, Anne Hanner of Wilsall; two sons, Patrick Dean Hanner and his wife, Deanna of Bozeman and James Scott Hanner and his wife, Leona of Billings; two daughters, Penny Jo Batzloff and her husband, Jim and Peggy Lynn Hoppe and her husband, William, all of Gardiner; two step-children, Michael R. Hotchkiss and his wife, Charlene of Bloomfield, N.M., and Barbara Ann Moore and her husband, Fred of Shepherd, Mont.; ten grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
