Fern R. Leskovec
MILES CITY - Fern Rosemary Leskovec, 83, died Monday, Jan. 24, 2000, at her home.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 31, in the Bullis-Graves Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow in the Custer County cemetery.

Edward W. 'Ed' Elliott
LIVINGSTON - Edward (Ed) W. Elliott, 85, of Livingston, died Jan. 25, 2000, at Livingston Health and Rehab Center following an extended illness. Cremation has taken place with Cremation or Funeral Gallery of Billings in charge. A memorial service will be held in Livingston on Saturday, Jan. 29, with a luncheon to follow.
Mr. Elliott was born Jan. 20, 1915, in Bozeman. Three weeks after his birth, they returned to the family home on Mission Creek. He attended Beaver Creek School and Park County High School. He married Joan Richie in Elmhurst, Ill., in 1947. They celebrated 52 years together last September.
Ed ranched with his dad on Mission Creek and in 1947 bought his own ranch on Trail Creek where he logged and ranched. He moved to the Shields Valley in 1977 and ranched for 10 years. He moved to town in 1987 to retire.
Ed is survived by his wife, Joan of Livingston; his son, Clarke and wife, Sharon of Laurel; his daughter Julie and husband, Bill Jones of Livingston; three grandchildren, John Elliott of Billings; Clarissa Elliott of Bozeman; and Kim Christensen of Post. Falls, Idaho; two step-grandchildren, Becky Before of Seattle; and Mike Nys of Billings; and many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces arid grand-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Gertrude Elliott; a sister. Gladys Stermitz; and a daughter, Kathie Lee.

H. John Rosenberger Jr.
H. John Rosenberger Jr. passed away on Jan. 13, 2000, in Billings. He was the son of H. John and Margaret Swartley Rosenberger and was born and raised in Doylestown, Pa.
Mr. Rosenberger graduated from Doylestown Public Schools, the Peddie School in New Jersey, and Dartmouth University in New Hampshire. Mr. Rosenberger spent much of his life in Montana and Oregon where he held business administration positions with various school systems.
Mr. Rosenberger moved back to Doylestown from 1985 through 1990 and established Action Resume Service. In 1990, Mr. Rosenberger ventured west again and resided in Oregon and Montana enjoying his retirement.
Mr. Rosenberger is survived by one daughter, Tana Rosenberger Ihrig; two grandchildren, Tyler and Kara Ihrig; one aunt, Agnes D. Swartley; two nieces and one nephew.
Memorial service will be held on Jan. 29 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church followed by inurnment at the Doylestown cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Big Sky Hospice, PO Box 35033, Billings, MT 59107 or the American Cancer Society. Cremation was held at Cremation or Funeral Gallery in Billings.

Gus Old Bear Sr.
Gus Old Bear Sr., 87, of Benteen, our beloved father, brother, grandfather and uncle passed away Jan. 25, 2000, in the Crow Agency IHS Hospital.
He was born Jan. 11, 1913, in Crow Agency, a son of Edward and Monica Chief at Night Old Bear. He grew up in the Garryowen area and attended the Rena Day School, often riding horseback to school. His father died at an early age, forcing Gus to stay home and assist his mother with the family home and ranch.
During his younger years, he was an accomplished artist, who enjoyed the outdoors, camping and hunting. He also broke riding and team horses.
Gus married Annie Long Sioux on March 14, 1949, in Crow Agency and the couple made their home on the family ranch. She died in 1973.
He was one of the first member of the Crow Baptist Church, who was baptized in the Little Big Horn River by Rev. Chester Bentley. He was also a member of the Big Lodge Clan and a child of the Greasy Mouth Clan. He was an independent and self-sufficient man, who believed in traditional Crow culture.
Gus worked for the Crow Tribe as a custodian for over 20 year before retiring. Even though he had retired, he remained active as a mechanic and carpenter. He had built his own home and several out buildings at the home.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters; three brothers; two daughters; one son; one grandson and one granddaughter.
Survivors include eight daughters, Gustine Old Bear, Lydia (Eugene) Bird in Ground Sr., and Lori Old Bear of Benteen, Elretta (Vincent) Parker of Pablo, Tela (Keith) Spoonhunter of Billings, Te-Atta Old Bear, Charlotte (Paul) Spotted Horse Sr. and Roberta (Stanley) Pretty Paint of Lodge Grass; six sons, Loren (Roseline) Old Bear of Lodge Grass, Gus (Monie) Old Bear Jr. of Ariz., Edward (Kay) Old Bear Sr. of Okla., Lee (Mary) Old Bear of Lame Deer, Stephen and Loris Old Bear of Benteen; five sisters, Agnes Old Bear of Benteen, Jessie Wilson of Wyo., Clara Nomee of Lodge Grass, Alice Wilson and Phoebe Dillon of Crow Agency; three brothers, James "Cactus" Wilson of Hardin, David Yarlott Sr. and Elmer Yarlott Sr. of Benteen; two grandchildren, whom he raised as his own, David and Bert Old Bear; 35 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews from the Yarlott family.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday in the Crow Community Baptist Church in Crow Agency. Interment will follow in the Garryowen cemetery. Bullis Mortuary of Hardin has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Paul H. Olsen
CULBERTSON - Paul H. Olsen, 81, died Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2000, at the Roosevelt Memorial Nursing Home.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 29, at the Ebenezer Lutheran Church, McCabe, Mont. Interment will be in the McCabe Ebenezer cemetery, McCabe, Mont. Fulkerson Funeral Home of Sidney is in charge.

Selma 'Sally' Dale (Peabody) Workman
"Her ways are ways of pleasantness, and all her paths are peace." Proverbs 3:17
SHERIDAN, Wyo. - We are saying goodbye to our loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, aunt, and friend. The cheerful spirit of Sally's full, happy, healthy life was devoted to care and concern for her family and friends. Sally was an angel in life, so this will be an easier transition for her than for those who love her.
Born April 3, 1912, at Forest Grove, Ore., to John W. and Lucy Peabody, Sally was educated at Cornelius, Ore., grade school, and Forest Grove High School. Sally also attended Pacific University of Forest Grove, Ore.
Prior to and during the first year of her marriage, Sally worked at the Masonic and Eastern Star Home at Forest Grove, Ore.
On July 11, 1942, Sally married Glenn Workman while Glenn was serving in the U.S. Army stationed at Fort Lewis, Wash. A year later, Glenn was honorably discharged, and the couple moved to the Workman family ranch on Meade Creek, south of Sheridan, Wyo. In 1948, the couple established a dairy farm on Big Goose Creek, west of Sheridan, where they lived and raised their family. In June 1970, the couple sold their ranch and moved into Sheridan.
Sally was active in Sheridan's First United Methodist Church, Big Goose Homemakers Club, and a charter member of the Prairie Dog Women's Club.
Sally is survived by her husband, Glenn Workman, of Sheridan; and the couple's three children (and their spouses): John (and Lou) Workman of Logan, Utah, Judy (and Mike) Hayworth of Colstrip, Mont., and Bill (and Jolene) Workman of Logan, Utah. Sally is also survived by two sisters in Oregon, one brother in Seattle, Wash., and six grandchildren. Sally was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, one grandson, and four nephews.
Our Sally will be terribly missed. A precious light has been extinguished from our lives.
Services will be held at the First United Methodist Church, Sheridan, on Saturday, Jan. 29, 2000, beginning at 10 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Sheridan, Wyo.

Dale J. Beauchot
HELENA - Dale Joseph Beauchot, 61, formerly of Harlowton, died Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2000, at his home in Helena.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 29, at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Harlowton. Interment will follow at Harlowton cemetery. Perkins Funeral Home is in charge.

Basil Lee Mennie
Basil Lee Mennie, 85, of Billings, died at Deaconess Hospital Tuesday morning, Jan. 25, 2000, of natural causes.
He was born Feb. 18, 1914, in Kalispell, to James Elmer and Marion Montgomery Mennie. He lived his early life in Rapelje, and graduated from Rapelje High School. He moved to Billings and married Florence Amundsen. They recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.
Basil worked for Consolidated Freightway and Garrett Freightway, He was a member of CF's Million Miler Club.
Basil loved his family. He took great pleasure being with his grandchildren and watching them in their activities. He was very proud of them and of their accomplishments.
Basil is survived by his wife, Florence; son, Roger Mennie of Billings; son, Leon (June) Mennie of Billings; grandchildren, Lee (Monty) Ruud, Yvette Mennie and Scott (Kim) Mennie. Also surviving are three great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Basil was preceded in death by his brother, Les Mennie., and his sister, Mildred Chaffee.
Memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, Jan. 28, at Smith's West Chapel, 304 34th St. West. Cremation has taken place. Memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.

John M. Dodd
RENO, Nev. - Dr. John M. Dodd, formerly of Billings, passed away Saturday night in Reno, where he was currently living. He is survived by his daughter, Laura Canton, his brother, Charles Dodd, and his sister Charlene Duncan.
John was born on April 4, 1930, and grew up in White Cloud, Kan. He attended the University of Kansas and began his teaching at the age of 17, while in school, in a one-room school house in Kansas. He then went on to complete his doctorate in special education at the University of Kansas in 1960. From there, he taught special education and was director of the Child Study Center at the State University College at Buffalo in New York. In 1969 he moved to Montana, where he was chair of the Institute of Habilitative Services for nine years and an Eastern Montana College professor of special education until he retired as professor emeritus in 1999.
John loved his work at MSU-Billings. He was a mentor for many students, and took pride in maintaining contact with them throughout their careers. He published many articles in the area of learning disabilities and was particularly interested in the effects of disabilities on Native American students. He helped many of the minority students stay in school and experience success in their education. He will be greatly missed by his family, colleagues, friends and former students here in Montana and around the country. Vaya con Dios and Pidamaye, John.
John's ashes will be taken back to White Cloud, Kan. as he wished. There is a memorial scholarship set up in his name at the Montana State University-Billings Foundation, MSU-Billings, 1500 N. 30th, Billings, MT 59101.

Raymond Heitz
CIRCLE - Raymond Heitz, 85, died Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2000, at the Glendive Medical Center.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 29, in the Chapel of Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. Interment will follow in the Custer County cemetery.

Jerry W. Whittington
Jerry W. Whittington, 53, died Sunday, Jan. 23, 2000, as a result of an airplane wreck. Jerry was born April 22, 1946, in Hamilton, Ohio. He is the son of Gene and Wilma Whittington. He attended school in Creswell, Ore., and graduated from Creswell High School in 1965.
Jerry came to Montana in 1966 and he married Deanna Gullion June 23, 1973. He worked as a bodyman at Frontier Chevrolet, Archie Cochran Ford and Duck's Body and Paint. Jerry's interests included hunting and fishing; of these, fishing was his passion. He felt nearest to Jesus his savior when he was fishing and hunting and could see God in the beauty of nature.
He is survived by his wife, Deanna of Billings; two daughters, Koreen (Jeff) Lowenstein and Falon Whittington, both of Billings; one grandchild, Katlyn Lowenstein. He is also survived by his parents, Gene and Wilma Whittington of Creswell, Ore.; his brother, Dennis (Annette) Whittington of Creswell; a sister, Dee (Ron) Smith of Springfield, Ore.; nieces and nephews.
We all love you and will miss you very much!
Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 29, at Lockwood Evangelical Church, 1413 Rosebud Lane. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lockwood Evangelical Church.

Velda A. Reeves
Velda A. Reeves, 67, of Billings, passed away Jan. 26, 2000, Wednesday at her home after a long illness. She was born Feb. 10, 1932, at Spokane, Wash.
Memorial gathering will be 2 p.m. Saturday, at the Second Shift at 934 U.S. Highway 87 E.
She married Art Reeves in Spokane on July 20, 1951. They lived in Medical Lake, Wash., and moved to Miles City in l964, coming to Billings in 1972. Velda worked as a prep cook at Castle Rock School until she was forced into retirement due to leukemia.
Survivors include her husband, Art; one son, Bill (Tracy) Reeves of Billings; two daughters, Cathy (Steve) Marxer of Aumsville, Ore., and Debbie (John) Hall of Billings; 15 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and a very special friend, Laverne McCann of Billings.
Arrangements were by Cremation or Funeral Gallery.

James Raymond Neal
James Raymond Neal peacefully eased out of his once athletic and strong body, after a long battle with muscular dystrophy. He passed away early in the morning on Jan. 24, 2000.
Jim was born on March 15, 1939, in Billings to James and Margaret Neal. He was a standout athlete, gaining all-state honors in football and basketball while attending Billings Central High School. Jim also excelled on the baseball diamond, as a hard throwing pitcher for the American Legion Baseball program. His accomplishments prompted current sportscaster, Brent Musberger to call him "The best high school athlete ever to compete in the State of Montana." Jim earned a football scholarship to the University of Montana and ended his college career at Eastern Montana College, after he wed and returned to Billings.
Jim went on to work at First National Bank, now Norwest Bank, supporting his family until 1990 when his muscular dystrophy forced him to retire.
Jim was blessed with three wonderful children, all three of whom carried on his legacy of competing athletically. His children will always be thankful for his support in all of their life endeavors.
Jim will be greatly missed by many, but especially by his family: his three children, Kelly Wade and her husband, Hall, of Frisco, Texas; Jeff Neal of Billings, and Cory Neal, currently a graduate student at the University of Notre Dame, and his wife, Annie; also by his two grandchildren, Colton Wade and Tyson Neal; his sister, Mrs. Dennis (Carolyn) Egan of Round Rock, Texas; and although they divorced several years ago, Jana, his only bride with whom he has held a cherished friendship.
A service celebrating the life of James Raymond Neal will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 29, at Michelotti, Sawyers & Nordquist. Rite of Committal will follow the service at Yellowstone Valley Memorial Park.
Memorials can be made in his name to the American Legion Baseball Program or the Muscular Dystrophy Association to help fight this devastating disease.
This great athlete, loving father, brother and friend will be greatly missed.
