Orville L. Mathiason
PLENTYWOOD - Orville L. Mathiason died Wednesday, Jan. 19, at Sheridan Memorial Nursing Home.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 22, at the Plentywood Lutheran Church. Interment with military honors will be in Plentywood Memorial cemetery. Fulkerson Funeral Home is in charge.

Ralph Knight Russell
ROUNDUP - Ralph Knight Russell, a Roundup transplant, died Jan. 19, 2000, in Benefis East Hospital, Great Falls. Until his move to Roundup he had been a life-long resident of Shelby, ranching and farming on the homestead his father Clarence claimed in 1908. Ralph's mother, nee Margaret Cumberland, was a one-room school teacher on the prairie. His older brother, Forrest, died as a youth.
On Dec. 21, 1943, Ralph enlisted in the Navy as the remaining son. His tour of duty included the NTC Farragut, Idaho; USS Cape Esperance (CVE88) and PSC USNB Bremerton, Wash.
His World War II commendations include the Asiatic Pacific Area Campaign Medal, American Area Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal and the Philippine Liberation Medal.
Upon his Honorable Discharge, Ralph resumed ranching and farming on his family's homestead.
He is survived by his wife, Carol Anne of Roundup; his children by his former, late wife, Joyce: Dawn Marie and Ross Russell of Shelby; his step-children: Brian S. Telander of Billings, Rachael McNamee of Temecula, Calif., and Eric Paul Telander of Sierra Vista, Ariz.
Ralph had been an active member of the Toole County VFW and one of the founding fathers of Toole County's Search and Rescue Team.
Funeral services will be held at the Whitted Funeral Chapel in Shelby on Jan. 24 at 3 p.m., followed by a wake in the VFW Hall on Main Street.

Artina K. Schmidt
POWELL, Wyo. - Artina K. Schmidt, 84, formerly of Fromberg, Mont., and Cody, died Thursday, Jan. 20, 2000, at the Powell Nursing Home.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 24, at Ballard Funeral Home in Cody. Interment will follow in Riverside cemetery.

Annie B. Matchett Thielke
BROADUS - Annie B. Matchett Thielke, 95, died Friday, Jan. 21, 2000, at the Broadus Nursing Home.
The daughter of George and Annie Matchett, she was born Nov. 7, 1904, in Balgonie, Sask.
Survivors include her son, Darryl (Bonnie) Thielke and children, Mark and Michelle of Arlington, Wash.; a daughter, Katherine Miller of Billings, her children, Annette (Brian) Matz, and children, Brandon and Blair of Billings; Bob (Jayne) Miller and son, Zachary of Rochester, Minn.; Cyndie Landon and children, Andy and Jenn of Billings; and Mike (Lisa) Miller and children, Abbie and Drew of Jackson, Wyo.; two sisters, Laura Schubert of Chinook and Eva Bergtall of St. Paul, Minn.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd Thielke in 1961, sisters, Ruth Haugen and Florence York and brothers, Jim, Tom and Walter Miller.
Cremation has taken place. Burial will be in Chelan, Wash. No services are planned.
Michelotti, Sawyers & Nordquist has charge of arrangements.

Jeannette 'Charlie' Rene Atwater
Jeannette "Charlie" Rene Atwater, age 34, of Billings, formerly of Miles City and Glendive, Mont., and Gillette, Wyo., died Sunday, Jan. 16, 2000, in Billings as a result of a homicide.
Charlie was born on Jan. 12, 1966, in Miles City, the daughter of James and Dona (Lebie) Atwater. She attended schools in Miles City and graduated in 1986 from Dawson County High School in Glendive. She attended MSU-Billings until she entered the Air Force. Following the Air Force, Charlie moved to Bellingham, Wash., then back to Billings where she has lived for the past three years. On Nov. 29, 1999, Charlie donated her kidney to her uncle Buck.
Charlie loved to play softball and spend time with her family.
Charlie is survived by three children: Aarren, Zachary and Kailynn Aiken, all of Bellingham; her father, James Atwater of Custer, Wash.; her mother, Dona Parks of Harlowton; and two sisters, Tawni Parks of Billings and Jacalynn Parks of Harlowton; and two uncles, Dennis Hockett and Donald "Buck" Lebie, both of Las Vegas, Nev. She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Alice Lebie in 1995.
Visitation will be held from 1- 6 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 24, at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Forsyth. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 25 in the chapel of Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Forsyth. Interment will follow in the family lot in the Forsyth cemetery. Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home of Forsyth is in charge of the arrangements.
Should friends desire, memorials may be made to Dona Parks to be used as an education fund for Charlie's children.

Jack Broadbrooks
MALTA - Jack Dale Broadbrooks, 65, died Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2000, at the Phillips County Good Samaritan Center of multiple sclerosis.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 24, at the Adams Funeral Home Chapel with interment in the Grandview cemetery in Saco.

Robert V. Corson
Robert V. Corson was born Aug. 15, 1929, to Robert B. and Vera Corson in Billings. He passed away Jan. 19, 2000, after an extended illness at Western Manor Nursing Home.
Bob was married 26 years to Ursula, which ended in divorce 20 years ago. They had three children, Vickie Ahrberg, Claremont, Calif.; Vern (Sally), Tacoma, Wash; and Valerie (Tom) Miller, Billings.
Bob has been a resident of Western Manor for 21 years. He contacted Parkinson's disease 39 years ago. He worked at NP Transport until he resigned because of health problems.
He was a member of Naval Reserve until he entered the Army to go to Korea. Bob lived with Lyle and Ethel Belden and their son, Harry, during his older teens until he married .
He is survived by his ex-wife, three children, six grandchildren, and brother, John. He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Jim.
Bob enjoyed trains, and had an extensive model railroad layout prior to his stay at Western Manor.
The family extends their thanks and appreciation to Western Manor for all the care and attention that they gave Bob.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Parkinson Research Headquarters, 1501 NW Ninth Ave., Miami, Fla. 33136.
The casket is closed and a graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 22, at Mountview cemetery.

Floyd Harlow 'Bus' Ellis
DENTON - Floyd Harlow "Bus" Ellis, 82, lifelong Denton resident, died Monday, Jan. 17, 2000, at the Central Montana Medical Center of natural causes. Floyd was born Dec. 22, 1917, at Denton, the only child born to Harlow and Edith (Smith) Ellis, and graduated from Denton High School.
On Oct. 22, 1941, he was united in marriage to Henrietta Van Haur in Lewistown. They have farmed and ranched in the Everson Bench-Denton area ever since.
Floyd was active in the FFA. He enjoyed woodworking, hunting, fishing, camping, skiing and skating with his children. He owned his own caterpillar and did excavation work, building dams and roads.
Survivors include his wife, Henrietta Ellis of Denton; three daughters: Eloise (Charles) Ellis Wisenhunt of Missoula, Henrietta Ellis Chiappone of Denton, and Harriette Ellis Brandon of Billings. In addition, he is survived by six grandchildren: Keith Glass of Denton, Nada Colton of Washington, D.C., Brian (Michelle) Brandon of Billings, Lori Brandon of Billings, Adam Chiappone of Sonoma, Calif., and Kevin Chiappone of San Rafael, Calif. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services for Floyd Ellis will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 21, at the Denton Community United Methodist Church. The casket will be open until the time of services and remain closed thereafter. Interment will be at the Hillcrest cemetery in Denton.
Memorials are suggested to the Denton Chapter FFA; to the Denton Ambulance Fund; or to the charity of one's choice.
The Creel Funeral Home of Lewistown is in charge of arrangements.

Dale Loran Green
MALTA - Dale Loran Green, 48, died Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2000, at his home of an apparent heart attack.
Family and friends are invited to attend a wake service at the Adams Memorial Chapel at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 21. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 22, at the Malta Lutheran Church with a reception to follow at the VFW. Adams Funeral Home is in charge.

Alice Marie Groshon
Alice Marie Groshon, 63, of Billings, died Thursday, Jan. 20, 2000, at St. Vincent Hospital and Health Center.
Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Monday, Jan. 24, at Mountview cemetery. Smith's Downtown Chapel is in charge.

Lorraine H. Kitto
TOSTON - Lorraine H. Kitto, 73, died in Toston at her home Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2000, after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 22, in the Broadwater High School in Townsend. Interment will be Deep Creek cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family request memorials be made to Westmont Hospice of Townsend or Broadwater High School music department. Connors Funeral Home in Townsend is in charge.

Marie A. Lehr
LAUREL - Marie A. Lehr, age 85, of Laurel, died Tuesday, Jan. 18, 2000, at Beehive Homes of Laurel.
She was born on Sept. 28, 1914, at Vineland, Colo., and came to Laurel in 1929. She married Henry Lehr on Nov. 4, 1933, in Billings. He predeceased her on Feb. 3, 1998. Marie was a member of the First Congregational Church of Laurel.
She is survived by two daughters, Florine Smith (Don) of Laurel and Carolyn Flaherty (Tom) of Milwaukee; two grandchildren, Teresa Flaherty and Michael Flaherty of Milwaukee; two sisters, Ann Phillips of Billings and Kay Prothro of Shreveport, La.
She was predeceased by her husband; one sister, Dorothy Pullaro; and two brothers, Mike Brano and Pete Brano.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 22, at the First Congregational Church in Laurel. She will be laid to rest at the Laurel cemetery. Smith Funeral Chapel in Laurel is in charge of arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the First Congregational Church or Beehive Homes, both in Laurel.

Gerald Lundberg
FARGO, N.D. - Gerald Lundberg, 71, died Jan. 19, 2000, in the Veterans Administration Hospital in Fargo.
Visitation will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, at Boulger Funeral Home. Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, also at Boulger Funeral Home.

Orville L. Mathiason
PLENTYWOOD - Orville L. Mathiason, 86, died Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2000, at Sheridan Memorial Nursing Home.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 22, at Plentywood Lutheran Church. Interment with military honors will be in Plentywood Memorial cemetery. Fulkerson Funeral Home is in charge.

Frank W. Otis Jr.
STANFIELD, Ore. - Frank W. Otis Jr., 82, formerly of the Silesia, Mont., area, died Dec. 30, 1999, in Milton Freewater, Ore.
Burns Mortuary of Hermiston was in charge of the cremation.

John Kenneth Reece
John Kenneth Reece passed away on Jan. 18, 2000, at the age of 75 after a brief but courageous battle with respiratory problems. John was born May 6, 1924, to Frank and Margaret Reece in Franklin, N.C.
He was educated in Franklin and joined the Navy on May 3, 1943. He served on a destroyer, the USS Biloxi, during WWII and received an honorable discharge on Feb. 12, 1946. John married Helen K. Reece, his wife of 53 years on April 16, 1946, in Greenville, N.C., then moved to Billings in 1947.
John started a 40-year career with Archie Cochrane Ford on Feb. 1, 1947. Starting as a mechanic, his people skills soon led him into sales. At Ford, the term "Top Hatter" depicted the level of achievement in Ford truck sales that John attained for 28 of those 40 years. Teamwork, honesty, integrity were the ingredients to customer satisfaction and a repeat clientele. Dad's trademark was always a red Ford pickup as a demonstrator.
John lived life to its very fullest. Family, friends, fishing and Ford pickups topped his list of favorites. John is survived by his wife Helen of the family home; a son, Michael of Tucson, Ariz.; a daughter, Jane (husband Vic) of Douglas, Wyo.; his mother, Margaret and a brother, J. D. Reece, both of Franklin, N.C.; and his youngest brother, Edward (wife Virginia) of Asheville, N.C.; three grandchildren, Lindsay, Jordan and Jenelle; two step grandchildren, Shane and Shonna; three step-great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death was his father, Frank, a brother, Bill and a sister, Lucille. Memorials may be directed to the American Lung Association, Montana Affiliate, Christmas Seal Building, 825 Helena Ave., Helena, MT 59601.
Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 21, at Smith West Chapel, 304 34th St. W. Interment of cremains will take place at Pleasantview following services.

Gladys Irene Simonson
CROSBY, N.D. - Gladys Irene Simonson, 71, former long-time resident of Plentywood, Mont., died Monday, Jan. 17, 2000, at Deaconess Hospital in Billings after a courageous nine month battle against cancer.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 21, at the Stakston-Martin Funeral Home of Crosby. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. (CST) Saturday, Jan. 22, at Concordia Lutheran Church. Interment will be in St. John's cemetery, rural Westby, Mont., at 1 p.m. (MST) on Saturday, Jan. 22. Stakston-Martin Funeral Home is in charge.
