Blanche E. Clark
ROBERTS - Blanche E. Clark, 96, of Roberts, went home to be with family gone before on Thursday, Jan. 13, 2000, at Cedar Wood Villa. She was born on April 10, 1903, to Edward A. and Estella St. John in Lander, Wyo., where she lived most of her life.
Blanche married Stanley M. Clark in 1934 in Denver. Mr. Clark died in 1972. She was a mother, farmer's wife and employee of the Wyoming State Training School in Lander for 19 years. Blanche took five years off, and then returned to work as a foster grandmother until illness forced her to retire at age 85.
Blanche moved to Roberts in 1991 to be close to her daughter, Joyce Jamieson. She will be remembered for her beautiful smile and snapping eyes, and the lovely afghans she created.
Survivors include two daughters, Joyce Jamieson (Andy) of Roberts, and Cheryl Hyatt (Gary) of Cabo San Lucas, Mexico: one stepdaughter, Stannis Spencer (Ken); 10 grandchildren, and numerous great-grandchildren and great- great-grandchildren.
Cremation has taken place, with arrangements by Olcott Funeral Chapel of Red Lodge. Committal services and interment will be at a later date in the family plot in Mt. Hope cemetery at Lander, Wyo. Memorials may be given to the charity of one's choice.

Olethia Mae (Lete) Johnson
BAKER - Olethia Mae (Lete) Johnson, 81, of Baker passed away on Thursday, Jan. 13, 2000, at the Fallon Medical Complex in Baker.
She was born on May 21, 1918, in Dodge, Neb., the daughter of William and Edna (Rose) Tiedemann. She moved with her parents in 1927 to Ekalaka. Olethia attended schools in Ekalaka, graduating from the Carter County High School in 1937.
She was married to Walter J. Martens in October of 1937. Together they ranched outside of Ekalaka for some time. They moved into Ekalaka and operated several bars and restaurants. They moved to Baker in 1959 and operated the Baker Cafe until September of 1960, when Walter passed away. Olethia was married to Allen Johnson in November of 1964. She continued to work at various establishments until her retirement in 1980. After retiring, Olethia made all her children and grandchildren quilts. She also enjoyed gardening and being with her family.
Survivors include her husband, Allen of Baker; a daughter, Monty Lou (Ben) Slagter of Baker; a son, Randy K. (Shirley) Martens of Baker; a daughter-in-law, Tammy Martens of Ekalaka; two brothers, Bill Tiedemann of Gillette, Wyo. and Harry Tiedemann of Walla Walla, Wash.; two sisters, Bernace Halmans of Baker and Helen Kommerer of Missoula; eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Her first husband, Walter, and a son, Gene, preceded her in death.
Funeral service will be held on 2 p.m., Monday, Jan. 17, 2000, at the Stevenson's Funeral Home in Baker. Burial will be in the Bonnievale cemetery.

Kenneth George Kobelt
BIG SKY - Kenneth George Kobelt, who was born Dec. 28, 1936, in Butte, died of natural causes Jan. 11, 2000, in Arizona. He graduated from Billings High School in 1954 and served four years in the U.S. Navy. After discharge, he worked for the Yellowstone Dairy and was a policeman for the Billings Police Department for seven years.
He started a security company which he sold and had several other businesses. After a short time as a security officer at Big Sky Resort, he owned and operated Big Sky Wrecker and Excavation which he had until his death.
Ken was always athletic and loved bowling and baseball. He also enjoyed theater and appeared in the movie "Heaven's Gate." He performed with the Montana Theater Works in Bozeman, playing in "Damn Yankees" in 1997 and in "Oklahoma" in 1998.
He was preceded in death by Lucille Lasswell, his mother. He will be greatly missed by his daughters Lorrie Ann Moore and Kimberly Kay Kobelt-Pierson; son-in-law, Kelly Scot Pierson; grandson, Jason Allyn Violetta; granddaughter, Kaylee Summer Rose Pierson; sister and brother-in-law, Willene and Robert Gray; brother and sister-in-law, Darrell and Edna Kobelt; sister, Shiela Tatro, and parents, William G. and Gladys Kobelt; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and friends in Big Sky, Billings, and Phoenix.
He was very supportive of his friends and his community, especially ardent in his support of Big Brothers and Sisters.
A memorial service will be held at the Big Sky Chapel in Big Sky, Mont., at 6 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 17. Memorials may be given to Big Brothers and Sisters in Bozeman.

Czeslawa Kozak
Beloved wife, mother and grandmother, Czeslawa Kozak, 71, died peacefully in her sleep Jan. 11, 2000, surrounded by family at Edgewood Vista, where she had been a resident for the last six months. She was born in Kolomyja, Poland, to Maria and Bronislaw Leligdowicz on Oct. 28, 1928.
She married Edward Kozak in 1949 and immigrated to the United States in 1961. She and Ed celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary last April. Czeslawa's love for her family was foremost in her life. A beautician in Poland, she and Ed operated a barbershop-salon. In Billings, she was a homemaker and helped with her husband's barbering business and maintained their rental properties.
Czeslawa was a cook extraordinaire. Her Polish dinners will be missed tremendously! She was a seamstress who could sew anything; she crocheted and knitted avidly making intricate tablecloths. She loved flowers, was an avid gardener, and looked forward to get-aways to the family cabin at Cooney Dam. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Bolek Leligdowicz of Billings and a brother, Janek of Poland.
Czeslawa is survived by her husband, Edward; her daughter, Teresa KozakKennedy and her husband, Larry; and their three children, Devin, Sarah, and Grace; her son, Jerry (Walus), his wife, Kathy, and their children, Zachary and Czelsi Kozak.
A Vigil Service will be held 7 p.m. Sunday, January 16 at Michelotti, Sawyers & Nordquist. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 17, at Little Flower Catholic Church with Rite of Committal in Holy Cross cemetery. Memorials in Czeslawa's memory may be sent to Little Flower Catholic Church.

Eva 'Pat' Lengemann
MESA, Ariz. - Eva 'Pat' Lengemann, 90, died Monday, Jan. 3, 2000, of natural causes.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 18, in the Cloyd Chapel in Lewistown, Mont. Cremation has taken place, inurnment will be later in the Lewistown City cemetery. Friends may make memorials to the United Methodist Church of Winnett or the charity of their choice and they may be left at the Cloyd Funeral Home. The Cloyd Funeral Home of Lewistown is in charge.

William Knoll McElroy
HAVRE - Dr. William Knoll McElroy, who practiced optometry 41 years in northcentral Montana, died on Thursday, Jan. 13, 2000, at the Eastern Montana Veterans Home in Glendive from complications of Alzheimer's disease.
William was born on Nov. 18, 1919, near Ekalaka, one of seven children born to George and Ivy (Goodell) Thompson. After the deaths of his parents in 1923 and 1925, he was adopted by William and Elizabeth McElroy, growing up on their farm near Denton. After graduating from Denton High School in 1936, he moved with his parents to Nyssa, Ore.
From 1942 to 1945, he served in the U.S. Navy, much of the time in the South Pacific. After his discharge, he enrolled in the University of Montana in Missoula, where he met and married Dagmar (Jan) Jensen on Sept. 4 ,1947. The following year the couple moved to Chicago where he attended Northern Illinois College of Optometry. In September of 1951, he established his practice in Chinook, later moving to Havre in 1959. He completed his 41-year practice of optometry in October 1992.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church, the Havre Lions Club, a lifetime member of the Montana Optometric Association, the Masonic Lodge of Havre, and a past chairman of the Hill County Republican Central Committee. He and his wife served with Volunteer Optometric Services to Humanity in Camargo, Mexico, in February 1985. A keen observer of nature and wildlife, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, various collectibles, Western art and literature and John Wayne movies.
He was preceded in death by his biological parents, his adoptive parents, a sister Beulah Adams, and three brothers: George, Bert and Floyd Thompson. He is survived by his wife, Jan of Havre; a son, Dr. Kevin McElroy of Boise, Idaho; four daughters: Marilyn DuBois and Beth Mehl of Fort Worth, Texas; Paula Kooren of Anchorage, Alaska; and Kristine McElroy-Weber of Longview, Wash.; 12 grandchildren; a sister, Alice Call of Rigby, Idaho; and a brother, Earl Thompson of Eugene, Ore.
Memorial services will be held at 11a.m. on Monday, Jan. 17, at the First Baptist Church in Havre with Rev. John Chapman officiating. Cremation has taken place. Interment will follow at a later date near Vida, Mont. Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home of Miles City is in charge of arrangements.
Should friends desire, memorials may be made to a church or charity of their choice.

Evelyn S. Nottingham
Evelyn S. Nottingham, 77, of Billings, died Thursday, Jan. 13, 2000, at Billings Deaconess Medical Center.
Graveside services will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 17, at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Smith's Downtown Chapel is in charge.

Maude Perkins
SIDNEY - Maude Perkins, 87, died on Thursday, Jan. 13, 2000, at the Sidney Health Center-Extended Care Facility.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 21, at the Fulkerson Memorial Chapel. Cremation has taken place. Fulkerson Funeral Home is in charge.

Delores M. Syth
WILLISTON, N.D. - Delores M. Syth, 73, formerly of Fairview, died on Thursday, Jan. 13, 2000, at the Mercy Medical Center in Williston.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 18, at the Fulkerson Memorial Chapel of Sidney. Interment will be in the Lone Butte cemetery. Fulkerson Funeral Home of Sidney is in charge.

Alyce Marie Turner
Alyce Marie Turner, 77, of Billings, passed away Thursday evening, Jan. 13, 2000, following a sudden and brief illness. The daughter of Bill and Rose (Higgins) Frost, she was born in Independence, Iowa on Dec. 2, 1922.
Alyce was raised and educated in Earlville, Iowa. Following graduation from high school, she worked for the Sheaffer Pen Co., in Fort Madison, Iowa, where she met Wm R. "Bill" Turner. They were married on Feb. 2, 1944 in Fort Madison. They lived in Colorado and Nebraska before moving to Billings in 1960.
From 1966 to 1978, Alyce worked at Skaggs in West Park Plaza at the "candy counter" where her perpetual smile and good cheer were ever present for friends and strangers alike. In 1978, Alyce and Bill purchased The Billings Times, which they still own today. She performed volunteer work at St. Vincent Hospital for many years. She was a long-time, active member of St. Patrick's Co-Cathedral.
Alyce loved to travel. She and Bill went on many cruises, from Alaska to the Caribbean to the Panama Canal, and she always looked forward to their annual anniversary trip to Reno to visit with her out-of-stare family. A dedicated mother and grandmother, her greatest pleasure came from spending time with her family and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Rosemary Holterhaus and Josephine Wellman.
Survivors include her husband, Bill, of Billings; her four children, Diedre Turner of Helena, Craig Turner, Pam Turner Milligan and her husband, Jerry Milligan and Scott Turner, all of Billings; her twin grandchildren, Kama and Kelly Turner of Billings; her sister Margaret Tellatin of St. Louis and sister-in-law Mabel Ruth Dowell of Tacoma and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 15 at Michelotti, Sawyers and Nordquist, and a vigil service will be held at 5 p.m. Sunday. Due to construction at St. Patrick's, Alyce's Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 1 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 17, at St. Pius X Church. Rite of Committal will follow in Yellowstone Valley Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Patrick's Co-Cathedral, St. Vincent DePaul, or the charity of one's choice.
All who knew Alyce appreciated what a remarkable lady she was. An incredibly kind, caring and gentle person, she made an obvious difference in the lives of her family and friends through her loving acceptance of all that life brought her way. You are our strength and our joy, Mom. We love you and will miss you tremendously.

George A. Washut
SHERIDAN, Wyo. - George Aloise Washut, 78, died on Thursday, Jan. 13, at the Westview Health Care Center.
Vigil services will be held at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 16, at Kane Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 17, at Holy Name Catholic Church. Interment will follow in the Willow Grove cemetery in Buffalo. Memorials may be made to the Elks cemetery Fund or Holy Name School in care of Delphine Toner, First Interstate Bank, P.O. Box 2007, Sheridan, WY 82801. Kane Funeral Home is in charge.

Jeanette Williams
SEATTLE - Jeanette Williams, 82, formerly of Sheridan County, Mont., died Thursday, Dec. 23, 1999.
Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 18, at Fulkerson Memorial Chapel in Plentywood, Mont. Interment of cremated remains will be in Eden Valley cemetery, east of Reserve, Mont., following the memorial service. Fulkerson Funeral Home of Plentywood is in charge.

Susan Besel
Susan Besel, 49, of Billings, passed away at her home Wednesday, Jan. 12. 2000, following a long battle with cancer.
She was born in Seoul, So. Korea. where she was raised and attended schools.
She met and married Daryl W. Besel in Korea, and they returned to the U. S. in 1977. They lived in Salt Lake City, Utah, for three years and then moved to Sogel, Germany, where they lived seven years. They moved back to Junction City, Kan. for three years and made the move to Billings in 1990.
She and her family traveled extensively in Europe. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, bingo and collecting figurines. She worked for about 1-1/2 years at Beartooth Elementary as a lunch attendant.
She was a member of the Korean-American Church.
Survivors include her son, Richard D. Besel of Billings and one sister in Japan.
She is preceded in death by her parents and one brother.
Funeral services will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 15, at Smith West Chapel. Interment will be at Mountview cemetery. Visitation will be from 8:00 a.m. until service time on Saturday. Memorials may be made to the Korean-American Community Church, 7th and Ave. D or the Northern Rocky Cancer Center, 1041 N. 29th St., Billings.

Arthur G. Davidson
Arthur G. Davidson passed away at home the afternoon of Jan. 12, 2000, surrounded by his family. Arthur was born in Toella, Utah, Sept. 21, 1913, to Arthur and Lois Davidson, one of three boys and one girl.
Art's father was employed by the Anaconda Company as a civil engineer and moved the family to Anaconda, where he grew up. Art worked helping his father with several community surveying projects. During his high school years, he participated in the Camp Perry National Junior Rifle Matches and left Anaconda in 1934 to attend Montana State University. There he joined the Kappa Sigma fraternity, majored in botany and biology with a minor in music and joined ROTC.
After graduating, he moved to Miles City and taught junior college and high school until 1943, then enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He served as range officer at Camp Parks, training officers in the use of the Colt .45 ACP and also aboard a Navy mine sweeper in preparation for the possible invasion of Japan. After the war, he remained active in the Naval Reserve serving as acting CO for the Miles City reserve unit. He retired in 1973 as lieutenant commander, having served his country for 30 years.
Art married Jeanette Peterson in Miles City on Aug. 17, 1940, and after his active military duty returned to pick up his teaching career at Custer County High School. He taught biology, chemistry and math, but his primary love was biology. He served many classes as sponsor and advisor, started a projectionist club, coached the tennis teams, and started the Science Fair program for his students. Any student interested in science could count on Art's full support and encouragement.
During his spare time, Art served as choir director for several Miles City churches.
Son Russell and daughter Roberta were born to Art and Jeanette during their time in Miles City, while eldest son Bob had been born in Anaconda in 1942. In 1961, Art, Jeanette and family moved to Billings taking up residence so Art could teach biology, botany, zoology, ornithology and bacteriology at Eastern Montana College. Science was Art's passion along with his love for music. Art retired from Eastern in 1979 as emeritus professor.
Art served as faculty advisor for the Kappa Sigma fraternity chapter at Eastern Montana College from the chapter's founding until his retirement from EMC.
Art was choir director for First English Lutheran Church for years and was very active in the Magic City Singers. Anybody that heard him sing the Lord's Prayer would remember him.
In 1980 after retiring from EMC, Art brought his expertise into business with his son. He continued to help people with their concerns about their drinking water safety and always was willing to spend as much time explaining the offering suggestion to customers as they needed. Many customers knew him by name and would ask about him if they had not seen him for awhile. In August of 1998, Art was no longer able to spend much time helping the laboratory and, instead, spent the remainder of his days at home helping his wife of 59 years
Art is survived by his wife Jeanette; sons Bob of Billings, Russell and wife Darla of Colstrip, and daughter Roberta and husband Mike Pentas of Broken Arrow, Okla.; his sister-in-law Bernice and husband Russell Sage of Billings, both lifelong friends; nephews Ross Davidson of San Antonio, Texas, James Davidson of Richland, Wash.. and many other nieces and nephews. Art's grandchildren who will miss him are Christen Juhnke of Missoula, John Davidson Billings, Joshua and Katie Davidson of Colstrip, Lindsay and Kayla Pentas, of Broken Arrow, Okla.
Memorial services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at Michelotti, Sawyers & Nordquist Mortuary. Interment with Military Honors will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Cremation has taken place.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Big Sky Hospice or the American Cancer Society.
