Sharon K. Chappell
POWELL, Wyo. - Sharon K. Chappell, 58, passed away early Monday morning, Feb. 21, 2000, at the Powell Hospital.
She was born in Powell on May 3, 1941, to Willard D. and Margaret M. (McPherson) Gimmeson. She attended Powell schools, graduating in 1959.
After graduation, she settled in Wheatland where she raised her family and worked may years for some special friends, Eldon and Grace Randall.
Before leaving Wheatland, she worked at the Platte County Memorial Hospital. In August 1988, she returned to Powell to be closer to family and began work in the business office as an insurance clerk for the Powell Hospital. She enjoyed spending time with her grandsons and friends.
Sharon was preceded in death by her parents and grandson, Jordan.
She is survived by her daughter, Brenda Shaefer and husband, Keith, grandsons, Colby and Brady, all of Powell; son, Kevin Chappell and wife, Lisa; grandson, Taylor of San Diego, Calif.; brother, Marvin Gimmeson and wife, Jimmie of Casper, as well as several aunts, uncles, nieces, cousins and friends.
Cremation has taken place and per her request, no services are planned.
For those wishing to do so, memorials are suggested to the Powell Hospital and Nursing Home or Valley Home Care, 777 Avenue H, Powell, Wyo. 82435.
Miratsky-Easton Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Arthur E. 'Art' Hyem
RED LODGE - Arthur E. "Art" Hyem, 91, of Red Lodge, died Sunday morning, Feb. 20, 2000, in Cedar Wood Villa.
Born on May 18, 1908, on Red Lodge Creek, he was the next to the youngest son of James and Jennie Hyem, area pioneers who homesteaded on Red Lodge Creek in 1895.
Arthur attended the Jackson School through the eighth grade. He ranched on Red Lodge Creek for many years, and later moved to Red Lodge, working road maintenance in Yellowstone National Park and on the Beartooth Highway.
He was preceded in death by seven brothers, Louie, Nels, Tilmar, Edwin, James, Carl and John Hyem; one sister, Minnie Tjeltveit; and his close friend and companion, Betty Bicknell.
Survivors include one niece, Berna Jean Niemi (Artie) of Roy; six nephews, Ed Hyem (Linda) of Roy, Ramon Hyem (Eileen) of Red Lodge, Roger Hyem (Shirley) of Florence, Jerry Hyem (Carolyn) of Memphis, Tenn., Glenn Tjeltveit of Reno, Nev., and Alvin Tjeltveit (Margaret) of Red Lodge; and a sister-in-law, Cora Hyem of Red Lodge Creek.
Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 24, in the Olcott Funeral Chapel. Cremation has taken place, and interment will be in the Red Lodge cemetery.

Ray Holland
TUCSON, Ariz. - Ray Holland, 69, formerly of Billings and Livingston, Mont., died peacefully Feb. 13, 2000, after a long illness. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arlington and Mildred Holland. He is survived by his loving family, wife of 46 years, Drea; son, Brad (Leslie); and three grandchildren of San Diego; and daughter, Jan (Tim) of Los Angeles; sisters, Arlayne, Marjorie, Marilyn, Kay, and Jane; brothers, Don, Bert, and Michael.
During his working career, he was a marketing analyst for Exxon Co., USA. His early years were spent in Montana and later in Los Angeles and then in Houston, Texas.
After retirement, he enjoyed traveling and visited many parts of the world. He and his wife moved from Houston to Tucson in 1995 to be near family. He was an avid basketball fan and traveled to San Diego frequently to watch the University of San Diego Toreros play. His son is the head coach at the university.
He will be greatly missed. A memorial service will be held Feb. 27 in Founders Chapel at the University of San Diego. Donations in his memory may be made to Carondelet Hospice. Arrangements by Wolfrey Peace Chapel.

Abraham 'Abe' Wilhelm
Abe was born Feb. 10, 1908, in Tacoma, Wash., to Henry and Mary Wilhelm, the fourth son of seven boys and one girl. Mr. Wilhelm died in St. Vincent Hospital on Feb. 21, 2000.
When Abe was a small boy, the family moved to the Fromberg /Bridger area where they worked several beet farms in the area. Abe married Mary E. Rush on Aug. 6, 1932, and together they moved to Billings. He worked for Pierce Packing Co. and later as a mechanic for several car dealerships in Billings. He also owned and operated his own garages in Joliet and Shepherd for several years.
Abe retired in 1974 and moved to Kennewick, Wash. In 1978, he was divorced and moved back to Billings and for the last eight years has resided at St. John's Lutheran Home and more recently at Eagle Cliff Manor.
Abe is survived by three daughters, Joy (Frank) Bruder of Billings, Meredith (Bill) Bretz of Finley, Wash., and Rose (Larry) Federico of Richland, Wash. He is also survived by six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and several nephews and nieces. Those preceding him in death include his parents, seven brothers, and his sister, Elsie Kemp.
Visitations will begin Thursday afternoon at the Smith Downtown Chapel. Friends and family will gather for graveside services at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 26 at Terrace Gardens cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the charity of one's choice. Smith Downtown Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Edith Jacques
LIVINGSTON - Edith Jacques, 68, died Monday, Feb. 21, 2000, at the Livingston Health & Rehab Center after a long battle with lung and heart disease.
Cremation has taken place at Franzen-Davis Crematory. Memorial services will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 23, at Franzen-Davis Funeral Home. Graveside committal and interment of cremains will follow in Mountain View cemetery.

Diane Marie Cole
SANTA ROSA, Calif. - Diane Marie Cole, 57, formerly of Billings, died on Tuesday, Jan. 25, in Santa Rosa. A memorial service was held in Santa Rosa. Lafferty and Smith Colonial Chapel was in charge.

William H. Zier
MALTA - William H. Zier, 68 years, died Thursday, Feb. 17, 2000, at the Deaconess Hospital in Billings following a heart attack. Memorial services were 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 19, at the Adams Memorial Chapel in Malta. Cremation has taken place. Adams Funeral Home of Malta was in charge of arrangements.
Bill was born Sept. 10, 1931, at Bridger, the son of Henry and Anna (Simonas) Zier. He was raised and educated in Fromberg, and graduated from high school there. He attended college at Bozeman, then enlisted in the Air Force during the Korean Crisis. He worked as a aircraft mechanic.
After his discharge, he worked for Earl Spencer at Fromberg. He married Nancy M. Richardson on May 27, 1961, at Fromberg. In 1964, he worked for Big Horn Calcium, and moved to Frannie, Wyo. In 1974, he went to work for American Colloid. He was elected mayor of Frannie and was serving his term when he was transferred to Malta in 1979. In 1984, Ted Vogel and Bill started the B & T Electrical, and Bill kept it going after Ted died in 1992.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy of Malta; daughters and son in-laws, Billie and Mark Haugen of Chinook, Andre' and Garth Sandsness of Lancaster, Calif.; sons and daughter in-law, James and Erika Zier, Jeff Zier of Billings; grandchildren, William and Shaylan Haugen, Berg Sandsness; sisters, Mary Zier of Missoula, Betty Stief of Cheyenne, Wyo.; brothers, Duane Zier of Stockton, Calif., Robert Zier of Missoula, and John Zier of Billings. He was preceded in death by his parents and grandson, Chad Haugen.

Eva Marie Matheny
CODY, Wyo. - Eva Marie Matheny, 86, died Monday, Feb. 21, 2000, at her home in Cody.
Cremation has taken place. A graveside memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 25, at Riverside cemetery.

Kenneth R. Boe
LIVINGSTON - Kenneth R. "Kenny" Boe, 77, lifelong Livingston resident, died at Livingston Memorial Hospital Sunday, Feb. 20, 2000.
Funeral services with ritualistic services by BPOE will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 23. at Franzen-Davis Funeral Home. Graveside committal and interment with military honors will follow in Mountain View cemetery.

Neva Fehrs
FAIRVIEW - Neva Fehrs, 85, died on Sunday, Feb. 20, 2000, at the Sidney Health Center Extended Care Facility.
Funeral services are at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 24, at the Fulkerson Memorial Chapel in Sidney. Interment will be in the Fairview cemetery.

Ruth Carlin
Ruth Carlin, 76, of Billings passed away Saturday, Feb. , 2000, at St. Vincent Hospital.
She was born Dec. 31, l923, the daughter of Henry and Catherine (Propp) Heimbichner. She was born and raised in the Hesper area and attended schools in Billings.
She worked at the Grand Hotel in downtown Billings and that was where she met her husband-to-be. On July 6, 1943 Ruth married Michael "Mike" Carlin. Following her marriage, they moved to Rochester, N.Y. where they lived while he was in the service. Two children was born to the union while living in N.Y. They returned to Billings in 1948 to make their home. They had three more children. In 1960, she began working at St. Vincent Hospital and was very proud that she never missed a days work in her 30 years of service. She retired in 1990.
Ruth enjoyed knitting and crocheting and made many afghans, dolls, and sweaters. Her special love was for her dog, Snowflake.
Survivors include four sons, Dennis M. (Sue) Carlin of Sheridan, Wyo., Wayne R. Carlin of Billings, John H. Carlin of Rochester, N.Y. and Matthew (Debbie) Carlin of Billings; one daughter, Josette Ciravoto of Gillette, Wyo.; grandchildren, Ingrid (Tom) Maddox, Beth Ciravoto, Lisa Carlin, Mandy Carlin; great granddaughter, Emily; brothers, Edward (Delores) Heimbichner of Ariz., Reuben and Jo Heimbichner of Billings and sister Rosie (Alec) Manweiler of Joliet. Numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Monday, Feb. 21, at Smith West Chapel. Interment will be at Terrace Gardens cemetery. Memorials to the American Cancer Society, Montana Affl, 2116 Broadwater Ave., Billings, MT.

William "Bill" Morris
GREAT FALLS - William A. "Bill" Morris, 86 of Great Falls, passed away Saturday, Feb. 19, 2000, at his home of natural causes.
Bill was born Oct. 9, 1913, at La Crosse, Wis. He married Marie Trible of Great Falls, in 1941. They later divorced.
Bill was educated in Great Falls and was the first graduating class of Great Falls High School. Bill was owner of Morris Sporting Goods. He was a World Sportsman Author, of True, Free Sprit, a cowboy photographer of the Old West.
Bill was involved in many community activities and organizations, including Second President of the Optimist Club of Great Falls; The first Lt. Governor of District 13 Optimist International, Optimist Club, Elks Club, Sons of the Pioneers, Great Falls Trap and Ski Club. He originated the National Hunters Safety Program, and also Sun River Ski Club which became King's Hill.
He enjoyed bowling, golf, music, dancing, traveling the world. Gave lectures and programs to civic groups and schools. He worked as a preservationist on the Smoke Stack, "Exalted Ruler", the Mint Mosaic, Tenth Street Bridge.
He is survived by two daughters, Pamela Morris Larson of Billings, Diana Morris Mann of Deer Lodge, formerly of Billings; four grandchildren, Eric Larson of Rochester, Minn., David Larson of Seattle, Wash., Wendy Mann of New Orleans and Dr. Rachel Mann of Dayton, Ohio. One great grandchild, Terra Hope Larson.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Croxford and Sons Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 23, at Croxford Sons Funeral Home. Burial will be in Highland cemetery. Memorials may be made to Preservation Cascade Inc. 1409 4th Ave. So., Great Falls, MT 59401.

Fred Udenberg Sr.
Fred Udenberg Sr., "Fritz", was born June 22, 1911, in Bitton, S.D., the seventh of 14 children of John and Christina Udenberg. At age 14, Fred came west to Montana riding the rails. He loved the mountains and even with his gypsy heart and love for travel, he always returned. A jack-of-all-trades and master of many, he was a most accomplished cook and musician. His fine food and the sound of his accordion will always be remembered. Fred married Mildred Udelhofen in Glendive. In 1947, he opened the Hamburger Hut in Absarokee.
Survivors include sons, Cody of Plains, Fred Jr. of Absarokee; daughter, Betty Shubert of Absarokee; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; brother, Art and sister, Florence Dalbec, both of Two Harbors, Minn.; many nieces and nephews; and all who loved him dearly.
Fred passed away Feb. 18, 2000, at Beartooth Manor in Columbus. Memorial will be 11 a.m. Saturday, March 4, at St. James Lutheran Church in Columbus. Rev. Mike O'Hearn will officiate. Inurnment will follow at rosebud cemetery in Absarokee. Cremation was held at Cremation or Funeral Gallery.

Floyd I. "Sarge" Owens
Floyd I. Owens, 77, of Billings, passed away at his home at 619 9th Street West, in the company of his children on Monday, Feb. 21, 2000, from cancer.
He was born on April 13, 1922, in Amboy, Minn. son of Gertrude and Delbert Owens. Shortly after his birth they moved to Billings, where he attended schools and later enlisted into the Marine Corps in 1940.
He was stationed on the USS Houston and survived a heroic midnight battle when the Houston was sunk by a Japanese Fleet. Of the 1011 men on board, 368 managed to swim to the island of Java only to be captured by Japanese soldiers. He was taken to Burma and as a POW, forced to work on the Burma Railroad for four years enduring relentless torture by his captors and facing many deadly infectious tropical disease. Upon his separation from the Marine Corps he returned to Billings and married Alice L. Craddock. They are survived by their three sons; Ernest (Deb) of Va.; Daniel (Judy) of East Helena and John (Linda) of Billings. He later married Carol Y McChesney O'Neill. They are survived by Traci (Spencer) Welch of Bozeman, Scott of Billings, Tami of Billings and Troy (Kim) of Boulder, Wyo. He was recently married to Linda (Hutton). He also had 17 Grandchildren and four Great Grandchildren.
Dad worked for Billings Dairy, Nyes Dairy and Meadow Gold for many years. He later was employed by and retired from GSA as a Boiler Operator at the old Federal Building on North 26th. Dad, your kindness, words of wisdom and humor will be lovingly missed by your family and many friends. We love you dad! Cremation has taken place at Cremation or Funeral Gallery, at his request no service is planned.

Herbert G. Schuler
Rev. Herbert G. Schuler, 82, of Billings, died Sunday, Feb. 20, 2000, at the Eagle Cliff Manor.
He was born Oct. 5, 1917 in Tuttle, N.D., the son of Christ and Pauline (Leno) Schuler. He was raised and graduated from high school in Turtle, N.D. He attended college at Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa and Wartburg Seminary in Dubuque, Iowa. He was ordained July 13,1948. He married Mathilda Kesler June 20, 1948. His first parish was in Fallon, Mont. Later he served parishes in Carson1 N.D., Goodrich, N.D., Napoleon, N.D., and Crystal, N.D. He was colloquized into the Minstraruim of Missouri Synod Church in 1962. He then served parishes in New Salem, N.D., and Glen Ullin, N.D., Rawlins, Wyo., Crawford and Harris, Neb.
He retired to Billings in 1983 and assisted at Our Savior Lutheran Church, where he and his wife were members. He enjoyed woodworking, loved reading western history and touring all the historical points in the Dakotas, Wyoming and Montana, using his metal detector to find artifacts. He was a former member of Lutheran Laymens League in North Dakota and Wyoming.
Survivors include his wife, Mathilda of Billings; daughters, Shirley (John) Laird of Billings, Edith Scbuler of Palmdale, Calif., and Pam Schuler of Casper; one grandson who was grandfathers pride and joy, Jason Laird; sisters and brothers7 Lillian (Roy) Montgomery of Billings, Albert (Gladys) Schuler of Bismarck, N.D., Clara (Gerald) Mertz of Arizona, Elsie (Don) Fuhrmann and Betty Schuler, both of Minneapolis, Minn., Hal (De) Schuler of Casper, Wyo., sister-in-law, Lois Schuler of Fargo, N.D., and brother-in-law, Lyle Hetletved of Chasley, N.D.; and a special nephew, John Schuler of Ill.; numerous other nieces and nephews.
Herbert was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Christ Schuler and sister, Agnes Hetletved.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb 24, at Our Savior Lutheran Church. Interment will be at Terrace Gardens cemetery. Memorials may be made to Our Savior Lutheran Church, 1603 St. Andrew Dr., Billings, MT 59105
