Dale E. Keepers
Dale E. Keepers, 70, of Billings, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2000, at the Aspen Meadow Care Center.
Dale was born April 9, 1929, in Huntley, the son of Glenn and Bertha (Hauf) Keepers. He lived in Huntley until the age of 8, when his family moved to Billings. He entered the U.S. Navy in 1946 and served until 1950 and remained in the Navy Reserves until 1954.
He traveled around the country with a good friend, Wilfred Corneau, settling in Paterson, N.J., where he worked as a mechanist. He married in 1959 and to that marriage three children were born. Dale returned to Billings in 1968 and he worked as a mechanist at several places.
On Oct. 12, 1985, he married Kathy Ames in Billings.
Dale loved his family and spending time with them. His grandchildren were his pride and joy and he spent as much time as possible with them. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, singing., traveling, and fixing or working on anything he could repair or build with his hands.
Dale was a member of Ashler Lodge No. 113, Al Bedoo Shrine where he sang with the Shrine Chanters for several years, York Rite, Eastern Star, and a former member of the Elks Lodge and Moose Lodge. He was also a member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife Kathy Ames Keepers of Billings; children, Glenn Keepers, Kathy (Dan) Sturn and Denise Keepers, all of Billings; Monica Kembel and Cliff (Lori) Kembel of Richland, Wash.; grandchildren, Julia Keepers, Matthew Sturn, Ashley Keepers, Meagan Keepers, Erika Sturn, Kalli Kembel and Madison Kembel; two sisters, Betty Pollari of Spokane, Wash., and Viola (Everett) Mitchell of Baker; two brothers, Ralph (Edna) Keepers of Dillon and Darwin (Jo) Keepers of Billings; numerous extended family and Dale's dog, Pug.
Dale was preceded in death by his parents, two infant sisters and his sister Dona Halstvedt.
Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 12, at Smith West Chapel 304 34th St. W., with Masonic Rites. Memorials may be made to the Shrine Transportation Fund, Emmanuel Baptist Church, or charity of choice.

Lorraine MacKinnan
BUFFALO, Wyo. - Lorraine MacKinnon, 76, died Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2000, at the Johnson County Health Care Center.
Visitation will be held from the Adams Funeral Home on Friday from 1 p.m. until 10 p.m. and on Saturday from 9 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 12, from the Adams Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will be in Willow Grove cemetery. Friends may donate in Lorraine's memory to the American Cancer Society in care of the Adams Funeral Home.

Thomas Michael Monaghan
MILES CITY - Thomas Michael Monaghan, age 61, of Miles City, passed away after a seven year fight with cancer, on Thursday, Feb. 10, 2000, at the Holy Rosary Health Center.
Tom was born on Oct. 13, 1938, at Butte, the son of Joseph P. and Catherine (McDermott) Monaghan. He attended St. Ann's grade school in Butte and graduated from Butte Central in 1956. He then attended Montana State University in Bozeman where he graduated with an electrical engineering degree in 1960. He began working for the Westinghouse Corporation, and he fulfilled his military obligation in the Coast and Geodetic Survey. He then attended the University of Montana in Missoula, graduating in 1966, with a degree in law.
Torn and Joan Smith were united in marriage on June 4, 1966, in Missoula. They moved to Helena, where he clerked for Chief Justice James T. Harrison. In 1967, they moved to Miles City, where Tom joined the Lucas & Jardine Law Firm, which later became the Lucas & Monaghan Law Firm.
He was a well-known and highly regarded attorney, and was a member of the State Bar Association, the Montana Trial Lawyers Association, past member and chair of the Montana Board of Bar Examiners, and a charter member of ABOTA. In 1995, the Montana Supreme Court acknowledged him for "distinguished services rendered to the Montana Judiciary and People of Montana." In 1997, the State Bar presented Tom with the Local Professionalism Award.
He was a member of the Miles City Public Library Board, Holy Rosary Hospital Board, and the Rotary Club. Tom was an avid jogger and enjoyed flying. His life was devoted to his family, and he especially loved watching and participating with his children in sports.
Tom is survived by his wife, Joan of Miles City; three daughters, Kathleen and her husband, Jun Jorgenson of LaCrosse, Wis.; Molly and her husband, John Schwarz and grandchildren David and Silas of Kalispell; and Ann Monaghan of Butte; and his son, Michael Monaghan of New York City. He is also survived by one brother, John Monaghan.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 12, in the chapel of Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home. Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home of Miles City is in charge of arrangements.

Eva D. Turbiville
BELLE FOURCHE, S.D. - Funeral services for Eva D. Turbiville, 92 of Belle Fourche, formerly of Carter County, Mont., will be Saturday, Feb. 12, at 10:30 a.m. from the Belle Fourche United Methodist Church. Pastor Steve Olson will officiate. Interment will be in the Beaver Lodge cemetery at Ekalaka, Mont., at 3 p.m. Saturday, with Bill Tooke officiating.
Visitation will be Friday from 1 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the Funeral Home of the Northern Hills in Belle Fourche, and one hour prior to the service at the church. A memorial has been established to the Beaver Lodge cemetery at Ekalaka.
Eva was born Jan. 7, 1908, at Madison, S.D., to John S. and Jessica (Drake) Richmond. Most of her early years were in Aberdeen, S.D., later moving with her family to the Ekalaka area. She graduated from Carter County High School, then attended Northern State College in Aberdeen.
Eva was united in marriage to Alden Walter Turbiville on March 31, 1933, at Deadwood. Following their marriage, they lived and worked the Turbiville Brothers Ranch in the Long Pines. In 1979, they retired to Belle Fourche. She has spent the last several years at the Myrna Jackson Home in Belle Fourche.
Eva enjoyed keeping in contact with her family and neighbors. She was a member of the Royal Neighbors, the American Legion Auxiliary and a neighbor hood ladies extension club. Eva passed away Wednesday morning, Feb. 9, in Belle Fourche.
Grateful for having shared in her life are: son and daughter-in-law, Dick and Rose Ann Turbiville of Belle Fourche; daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Dave Kautzmann of Billings; son-in-law, John Butrymowicz of Green Bay, Wis.; 18 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, daughter, Dorothy Butrymowicz, and two brothers.

Sheila K. Vorhies
GREYBULL, Wyo. - Sheila K. Vorhies, 58, died on Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2000, at her residence after a courageous battle with cancer.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 12, in the Greybull Alliance Church. Interment will follow at the Hillside cemetery in Greybull. Atwood Family Funeral Directors, Inc. is in charge.

Katheryn I. Anderson
FORSYTH - Katheryn I. Anderson, 90, formerly of Laurel, died Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2000, at the Rosebud Health Care Center.
Cremation has taken place and a private memorial service will be held in Billings. Beals Mortuary of Forsyth is in charge.

Eva R. Cottrell
CODY, Wyo. - Eva R. Cottrell, 83, died Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2000, in Billings.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 14, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Cody Stake Center, with interment to follow in riverside cemetery.

James N. Carter
MILES CITY - James N. Carter, 82, died on Wednesday, Feb. 9, 2000, at the Fort Harrison Medical Center in Helena.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 11, in the Chapel of Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the Custer Country cemetery.

Terry Jay Wissink
BEACH, N.D. - Terry Jay Wissink, 46, died in Dickinson on Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2000.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 11, at the First Lutheran Church. Interment will be in the Beach Lutheran cemetery. Silvernale-Silha Funeral Home of Beach is in charge.

Mary Big Foot Redcherries
LAME DEER - Mary Big Foot Redcherries, 74, passed away after a long illness on Feb. 8, 2000. She was born and raised in Lame Deer on April 11, 1925. She married Frank Redcherries in 1971. Her father was David Big Foot and mother, Lucy Scabby. She was a descendant of Charging Bear who was killed in the Fort Robinson breakout in Nebraska. Also, her grandmother was "Lame Girl," a survivor of the Little Bighorn Battle. Mary was a homemaker, loved to sew and was a kind person.
Survivors includes her brothers: William Gardner Sr. of Lame Deer and Joseph Gardner of Parshall, N.D. She has numerous grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, Frank Redcherries and son, Sam Big Foot.
Wake service will be at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 10, at Blue Church in Lame Deer. Graveside services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, in the Lame Deer cemetery. Rausch Funeral Home is in charge.

Dugal Marks
RED LODGE - At the age of 77, Dugal died peacefully at the Beartooth Nursing Home in Red Lodge, where he has lived since December, 1999.
Dugal was born the son of Peter Dugal and Mary (McDermott) Marks on May 2, 1922. He was born in Mecaha, Mont., northeast of Winnett, at Fort Musselshell attending school there until the eighth grade. He ranched with his parents and later with the Town Brothers at an early age.
On Aug. 23, 1947, Dugal was united in marriage to Anna Rukavina in Malta, Mont. In 1959, they moved to Bridger where they had the Town and Marks Ranch on Blue Water.
Dugal had a pilots license and flew a Piper Cub plane which was used for spotting cows in the bogs along the river and for his recreation. After his retirement, he worked for Phoenix Production & Petroleum Engineering. He was a volunteer fireman for the Bridger Volunteer Fire Department for several years. Dugal loved fishing at Yellowtail Dam, having coffee with the guys and visiting with his many good friends. Dugal and his wife, Anna, were very hospitable people who quietly and generously helped many people.
Survivors include his brothers, Pete Marks of Winnett, Kern (Evelyn) Marks of Helena, Jack (Jerry) Marks of Missoula, Bob Marks of Winnett; sisters, Dorothy (Jerry) Weingart of Williams Lake, B.C., Canada, Inda Mosby of Lewistown; and numerous nieces and nephews.
His parents: his beloved wife, Anna, brothers, Ed, Albert, and George Marks sisters; Elizabeth Kettle and Agnes Bierlie all preceded him in death.
A Funeral Service will be 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 14, at Dahl Funeral Chapel in Billings. Cremation will take place later and his ashes will be scattered. A reception will follow service at Dahl Funeral Chapel hospitality room. Visitation will be Thursday and Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days.. Memorials may be made to the Bridger Volunteer Fire Department.

Dean William 'Willy' Bird Jr.
Dean William "Willy" Bird Jr. crossed to the other side camp to be with his brother Quannah Luke on Feb. 7, 2000. Willy lost his life in an auto accident while attending college near Davis, Calif.
He was born on Aug. 15, 1978, in Crow Agency, Mont., to Majel Russell and Dean Bird. He was raised and attended schools in Billings, Lodge Grass, Missoula, Hardin, and Great Falls. He was Hardin High School Homecoming King in the fall of 1996 and graduated from Billings Senior High School with honors in June of 1997.
After high school, Willy attended Haskell Indian Nations University and Little Big Horn College, where he studied information systems and was a member of the American Indian Science and Engineering Society (A.I.S.E.S). Willy was an outspoken and articulate student activist, and involved himself in the organization and presentation of issues important to Native American rights.
Willy was well-known for his athletic and artistic abilities. Throughout his school years, Willy competed in numerous running events alongside his brother Quannah, and later in the annual Quannah Bird Memorial Run. He ran in the Montana State Cross Country Meet with both Lodge Grass and Hardin High Schools. Willy played varsity basketball with the Lodge Grass Indians and the CMR Rustlers. He was an outstanding artist in visual design and photo-realism, and had made plans to attend the San Francisco Art Institute.
Willy was a member of the Big Lodge Clan and a child of the Piegan Clan. He was named "Achieves Through Education" by his great-granduncle Ben Pease Jr. He was a member of the Nighthawk Dance Society and actively participated in traditional events and activities in the Lodge Grass District of the Crow Reservation. A special pleasure in his life was the Crow Fair. Born on Crow Fair week in 1978, Willy never missed a Crow Fair, after going to extraordinary lengths to attend, even if only for a few hours.
Willy was a member of the First Crow Indian Baptist Church, baptized in 1990. His life was greatly influenced by the fellowship in Baptist Youth, attending church camp at Templed Hills and within the many church activities of his extended family. Willy relied upon his strong spirituality during his greatest personal challenge, the loss of his older brother, Quannab, to leukemia.
Survivors include his mother, Majel and sister, Ivy, of Billings; his father, Dean, of Lodge Grass; his maternal grandparents, Patrick and Sharon Stands of Pryor; his paternal grandfather, Fred Bird of Lodge Grass; his maternal uncles, Russell Stands of Aberdeen, Scotland, and Jonathan Stands of Pryor; his paternal uncles, Dana Bird of Lodge Grass and John Dust of Billings; his paternal aunts, Aldeen and Vicky Dust of Lodge Grass. Willy is also survived by his special great-aunt Angela Russell of Lodge Grass and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. Willy was preceded in death by his brother, Quannah Luke Bird, his maternal great-grandparents, William and Josephine Russell, and maternal grandmother, Martha Dust.
Willy's witty sense of humor, good nature, outgoing personality and contagious laughter will be sorely missed by all those he leaves behind. Willy will be remembered as one of the best of God's children. He was blessed with beauty, intelligence, health, happiness and was loved by multitudes of friends and family. Willy leaves many loved ones on this earth who look forward to greeting him in eternal life.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 12, in the First Crow Indian Baptist Church of Lodge Grass. Burial will be in the Lodge Grass cemetery. Bullis Mortuary of Hardin has been entrusted with the arrangements.
Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to the Willy Bird Memorial Art Scholarship at Little Big Horn College in Crow Agency, MT 59022.

William R. 'Bill' Brown
William R. "Bill" Brown, 78, of Billings, died Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2000, at the Eastern Mon-tana Veterans Home due to complications of Alzheimer's.
The son of John and Mar-garet Brown, Bill was born May 17, 1921, in Crook, Colo.
Bill enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1941. He served in the South Pacific and was discharged in 1945. Bill married Bonnie Miller in Sidney, Neb., Aug. 4, 1943. Before making their home in Denver, Bill farmed at Sidney. While living in Denver, he worked as a four-color press operator for Hirschfeld Printing from 1946 until retiring in 1983. After retiring, he never quit working, planting trees, feeding horses, mending fences and working outdoors.
Bill had a wonderful sense of humor, funny and good-natured. He told great one liner's. He was a league bowler for more than 30 years and enjoyed golf and travel. He and Bonnie belonged to Ports of Call Travel Club while living in Denver and had traveled to Europe and Mexico, and Alaska and Hawaii several times. Most of all, Bill loved to fly. He flew his own plane for many years and was a member of AOPA.
Survivors include his wife, Bonnie of Billings, his daughter, Linda Overstreet and her husband, Mike of Billings, his son, Larry and his wife, Gena of Fairbanks, Alaska, a sister, Helen Dickinson of Sidney, Neb., four grandchildren, Luke Overstreet (Chani), Shara Overstreet, Danny Brown, Leslie Bennett (Fred), and seven great-grandchildren.
Cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Faith Chapel. Interment with military honors will take place at Yellowstone Valley Memorial Park.
Memorials may be made to Alzheimer's Association of Greater Billings.
