Elizabeth Timmons
On Feb. 7, 2000, Elizabeth Timmons left her earthly home. Her health began failing after a fall in November. Congestive heart failure and pulmonary disease kept her in the hospital and Western Manor. However, she spent her last few days at home where she departed peacefully and with dignity. She was respected by all that knew her.
She was born Elizabeth Julia De Saveur, the first daughter of Remy and Celina De Saveur, on May 22, 1915, in St. Lievens Essche, Belgium. Elizabeth, brother Pete, and their mother came to the United States together. After landing in New York and being processed through Ellis Island, they boarded a train for the cross-country trip to Montana. Her father, already working in the Red Lodge mines, met his family here in Billings on Jan. 20, 1920.
Later, he moved the family to the Clarks Fork Valley, farming near Edgar and Fromberg. Elizabeth received her education in the Fromberg Public Schools.
On March 23, 1940, Elizabeth and Emory Timmons were united in marriage. Much of their married life was spent at Fromberg, raising a son and daughter, farming, and operating a grocery store. Elizabeth was active in the Northside Community Club and Edna Hedges Chapter Order of Eastern Star during this time. They retired in 1970 and moved to Billings.
Elizabeth became an avid volunteer and accumulated over 7,500 hours at Billings Deaconess Hospital. Through RSVP, she also worked at the information table at the airport every Saturday afternoon. All of the neighborhood children affectionately called her "Grandma" and knew there were always delicious home-baked cookies or other goodies waiting for them in the Timmons' kitchen.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her son Charlie, brother Pete, and parents. She is survived by her husband, Emory; daughter, Joanne (Clay) Jellison; daughter-in-law, Marge (Ben) Flynn; sisters, Elsie (Bill) Easton of Santa Ana, Calif., and Florence (the late Gus) Gstohl of Gillette, Wyo.; four grandchildren, Jacquie (Jim) Vannoy, Mark (Kelly) Timmons, Bryan (Jennifer) Bailey of Pflugerville, Texas, Brett (Chassanna) Bailey of Helena; six great-grandchildren, with two more to be born soon; and numerous nieces and nephews.
