Judith E. "Judy" Walker
CLYDE PARK - Judith E. "Judy" Walker, 46, died at her home Saturday, Feb. 5, 2000, following a long battle with cancer. Visitation will be held 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Feb. 7 and from 9 a.m. to noon Tuesday, Feb. 8 at Franzen-Davis Funeral Home, 118 N. 3rd St. in Livingston. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, corner of 3rd Street and Lewis Street in Livingston. Rev. Stephen Morris will officiate. Inurnment will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 9 in the Columbus cemetery at Columbus, Mont., with Rev. Michael O'Hearn of St. James Lutheran Church in Columbus officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Franzen-Davis Funeral Home in Livingston.
Judy was born Nov. 24, 1953 in Billings, the daughter of Trygve and Eileen (Phelan) Brensdal. She came with her family to Columbus where she spent her early life and received her early education. Following her graduation from the Columbus high school, she enrolled in the nursing program at Montana State University in Bozeman. She graduated with a nursing degree in 1976 and in 1980 she received a Master's of Education Degree in family counseling. Judy married Lynn Walker in 1977 and they were later divorced. She had worked at Livingston Memorial Hospital and Northwest Counseling Center in Bozeman and had also taught birthing and parenting classes. She had worked as a counselor in private practice until she became ill, about a year ago.
Judy was a member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church and was an active girl scout and 4-H leader for many years.
Survivors include four daughters: Sarah and Laura Walker both enrolled at MSU in Bozeman and Edie and Abby Walker both of Livingston; her parents Trygve and Eileen Brensdal of Columbus; two brothers Larry Brensdal of Billings and Ken Brensdal of Helena; a sister Barbara Kern of Emmaus, Penn.; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Memorials in Judy's memory may be directed to the Park County 4-H Leader's Council, c/o Park County Extension Office, 414 E. Callender St., or to Gateway Hospice, 504 S. 13th St., both in Livingston, MT 59047.

Joseph Elmer Norman
GREYBULL, Wyo. - Joseph Elmer Norman, 72, died Saturday, Feb. 5, 2000, at his residence in Greybull.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 8, at Grace Southern Baptist Church. Burial will be in Hillside cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2-8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 8, at Atwood Family Funeral Chapel. Memorials may be sent to Security State Bank in Basin, Wyo.

Alec Krug
LEWISTOWN - Alexander "Alec" Krug, age 85, of Lewiston, formerly of Laurel and Joliet went to meet the Lord on Friday, Feb. 4, 2000, at his home in Lewistown.
Alec was born at Huntley, on April 20, 1914 to John Jacob Krug and Mary Elizabeth Maier Krug.
On Oct. 13, 1935, Alec married the love of his life, Cula Byrd. Together they had four children while living on the farm that they worked for over 40 years.
Alec enjoyed fishing with his family and friends, and dancing with the OAKS in Billings
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, two sisters, one brother, and an infant daughter.
He is survived by four sisters and five brothers all of Laurel; his children Nadine (Ervin) Rogers of White Sulphur Springs; Melvin (Dolly Ann) Krug of Columbus, Gary (Guen) Krug of Honolulu, Hawaii and Bruce (Judie) Krug of Lincoln; seven grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and his good friend Betty Meile.
Funeral Services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 9, at Smith Funeral Chapel in Laurel. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 5-7 p.m. Interment will take place at the Rockvale cemetery. Smith Funeral Chapel in Laurel is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to charity of one's choice.

Kathryn M. Alsup
CODY, Wyo. - Kathryn M. Alsup, age 87, passed away Thursday, Feb. 3, 2000, at the West Park Long Term Care Center in Cody.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 8, at Christ Episcopal Church. Interment of cremains will be in Riverside cemetery following services.

Reverend Mark H. Baer
HAVRE - Reverend Mark H. Baer, 46, died Feb. 2, 2000, in a Havre hospital of an apparent heart attack.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, Feb. 7, at the Church of the Nazarene. Burial will follow at Highland cemetery with military graveside honors. A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 10, at the Trinity Church of the Nazarene in Billings, 25 Hilltop Dr. Memorials may be made to the First Church of the Nazarene in Havre. Holland and Bonnie Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mildred Blanche Schmittel Cooper
Mildred Cooper went home to be with the Lord, Feb. 3, 2000. She was born Aug. 7, 1930, in Monte Vista, Colo., the daughter of Carl E. and Frances Mae Schmittel.
Mildred lived the first six years of her life with her great aunt, Blanche and Guy Markland. She then lived with her father, Carl and Emma Lou Schmittel on the family farm and ranch operation near Center, Colo. She graduated in 1949 from Center Consolidated High School. She attended Colorado State Teacher's College in Greeley, Colo.
She married Verne Cooper Jr. on Feb. 12, 1949, in Center where they operated an experimental farm for Colorado State University. They also lived Del Norte, Colo.; Howe, Idaho; and Billings where they were involved in the agriculture industry.
Mildred was first and foremost a homemaker. As her sons grew, she took on other roles such as librarian, Mountain Bell operator, and health care provider. As her four sons embarked upon their own careers, she resumed her calling as a caregiver, tending to elderly people as if they were family. Mildred was incapacitated by a stroke in November of 1999, and was ultimately defeated by another one on Feb. 3. She was a long-time member of Bitterroot Extension Club and the Christian Church. She gave generously of her time and resources to a wide variety of charities and churches such as the Yellowstone Boy's and Girl's Ranch, the Montana Rescue Mission, Faith Chapel, the Westside Baptist Church, and numerous other health and welfare organizations.
Mildred is survived by her four sons and their families, Jerry and Pamela Cooper and grandchildren, Julia, Timothy and Christopher; son and daughter-in-law, Monte Cooper and Deb Berglund; Kurt Cooper and dear friend, Janna Johnson, all of Bozeman; grandson, Brian Cooper of Huntley, and son and daughter-in-law Ken and Kathy Cooper and grandson, Levi, of Everett, Wash. Two sisters and brothers-in-law, Donna Mae Jenkins and Leonard Jenkins of Center, Anne and Jack Bailey of Denver also survive her, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Cremation has taken place. Final interment will be at the family grave site in Monte Vista, Colo. A memorial service is scheduled at the Westside Baptist Church (406) 656-6885 at 323 S. 32nd St. W. in Billings, at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 8. Memorials can be made to the Montana Rescue Mission, 2822 Minnesota Ave., Billings, MT 59101.

Louise N. DeVore
On Feb. 3, 2000, Louise N. DeVore, 87, passed away peacefully in her sleep at the Valley Nursing Home.
Louise was born on Oct. 20, 1912, the fourth child and second daughter of Matt and Mary Vertin in the little town of Darrell, Mont. Her parents were homesteading the land in the southeast corner of Fergus County in hopes of becoming successful farmers. When the drought and grasshoppers drove them from their home, the family moved to Klein to work in the coal mines.
They eventually moved into Roundup, where Louise attended school and graduated from Roundup High School in 1930. After school, she worked at various stores in Roundup, including J.C. Penney, where she met her future husband, Don B. DeVore. In 1934, she moved to the family home in Billings, where she continued to work for the Penney store.
On March 12, 1939, Don and Louise married in Crown Point, Ind. From there, Louise and Don traveled the state of Montana, following road construction jobs of which Don was project superintendent. In 1949, the family moved to Great Falls and in 1955, they moved to Helena, where they resided until 1991, when Louise and Don moved to Billings to be closer to their family.
Louise loved to grow flowers, knit, crochet, do crossword puzzles, read and be near her family. She loved little children and could always he counted on for a friendly smile and a pleasant word.
Louise was preceded in death by her husband, Don; two brothers and one sister. She is survived by her two sons, Rick (Shari) of Billings and Don, Jr., of Matthews, N.C.; six grandchildren, Dionne and Derek DeVore of Billings, Jonathan DeVore of Matthews, N.C., Christopher and Kimberely DeVore of Rockledge, Fla., and Michelle Davis of Monroe, N.C.; two great-grand sons, Tyler and Grant Davis of Monroe, N.C., and a sister, Francis (Warren) Smith of Billings.
No services are planned. Cremation has taken place. Burial will be in Terrace Gardens alongside her husband. The Cremation or Funeral Gallery is in charge of arrangements.
Louise, every time we gaze upon a beautiful sunset, our hearts will be warmed by loving thoughts of you.

Gladys Bowman Fox
RED LODGE - Gladys Bowman Fox, 97, of Red Lodge, passed away Friday after-noon, Feb. 4, 2000, in Beartooth Nursing Home.
She was born on April 23, 1902, in Red Lodge, a daughter of Henry and Mary (Maddox) Bowman. Her father was a Pony Express rider who homesteaded on Dry Creek.
Gladys graduated from Carbon County High School, South Dakota Teachers College, and received a master's degree from the University of Montana at Missoula. She taught elementary school grades in Carbon County schools for over 40 years.
On Oct. 23, 1968, she married J.L. (Roy) Fox.
A true pioneer, Gladys was an independent and concerned citizen who was always learning and teaching. A good friend known for her baking and catering, she was active in many organizations, including Eastern Star and Rebekah Lodges, the library board, Festival of Nations, Carbon County Memorial Hospital Guild, Garden Club, Community Church Women's Fellowship, Business and Professional Women and Alpha Delta Kappa. Gladys was a longtime member of the Calvary Episcopal Church. In addition, she established the Gladys Bowman Fox Scholarship for women graduates of Red Lodge High School.
Gladys was preceded in death by her husband in 1988; two brothers, Sam and Frank and one sister, Doris.
Survivors include a step-daughter, Mary Ann Fox Bowman; a step-son, J.L. Fox, Jr.; a cousin, Isla Klopcich of Billings, and their families.
Memorial services will be announced later in February. Cremation has taken place, with the Olcott Funeral Chapel in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be given to the Red Lodge Carnegie Library.

Gene 'Skinner' Hagman
SALT LAKE CITY - Gene "Skinner" Wright Hagman, age 58, of Miles City, Mont., passed away on Thursday, Feb. 3, 2000, at the VA Medical Center in Salt Lake City.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 8 at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Stevenson and Sons Funeral Home in Miles City. Interment will follow in the Veteran's section of the Custer County cemetery.

Harry 'Eddie' McCormick
Harry E. "Eddie" McCormick, 76, of Thermopolis, Wyo., died Friday, Feb. 4, 2000, at St. Vincent Hospital of emphysema.
Memorial service arrangements are pending in Thermopolis. Cremation was held at Cremation or Funeral Gallery.

Craig Jay Muller
BYRON, Wyo. - Craig Jay Muller, 45, of Byron, died Feb. 3, 2000, of cancer at the Beartooth Hospital and Heath Care Center. He was born Nov. 17, 1954, in Lovell, the son of Arthur and Hallie Muller.
Craig was educated in Frannie-Deaver Schools, and attended Sheridan Community College. He was a heavy equipment operator for Muller Trucking and Dirt Contracting, Nicholes and Lewis and the last 13 years for NEPCO. Craig loved to fish and hunt and he was an active member of the Cowley Riding Club and the Lions Club in Byron.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father. Survivors include Craig's daughter, Shantel Muller, of Frannie; a sister, Arla Sessions, Orem, Utah, and two brothers, Orin (Sherron) Muller, Red Lodge, Mont. and Dennis (Jolene) Muller, Taylorville, Utah.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, Feb. 9 at 11 a.m. at United Methodist Church, in Deaver, Wyo., with burial at Deaver cemetery. Memorials may be given to American Cancer Society, Cowley Riding Club, United Methodist Combined Church of Lovell and Deaver, Byron Lions Club, or an organization of personal preference.

Baptiste L. 'Batt' Obert
ROBERTS - Baptiste L. "Batt" Obert, 100, of Roberts, died Friday morning, Feb. 4, 2000, in Cedar Wood Villa in Red Lodge where he has resided for the past two years.
Born in Red Lodge's Little Italy on March 20, 1899, he was a son of Joseph and Maria (Deviona) Obert. He celebrated his Baptism, First Holy Communion and Confirm-ation at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Red Lodge. He attended school in Red Lodge through grade 5. His family then moved to Roberts where his father homesteaded what is now the John Obert Jr. ranch. He attended Roberts School through 8th grade.
On Nov. 15, 1920, Baptiste married Evelyn Kisinger. They raised three daughters, Lorena, Jean and Elvina. He loved farming and ranching. His place, the BLO Ranch, is presently owned by Tony and Lorena Papez.
As a young man, he greatly enjoyed playing baseball, and was a catcher on area teams during the 1920s and 1930s. He remained a fan of the game throughout his life. He was a life member of the Elks and Eagles Lodges, and a charter member of the Italian Society. Batt was known for his homemade salami and wine.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Obert in 1974; daughter, Jean Karma Koski; son, Raymond; grandson, Andrew Jordan; brothers, Pete, Bert, Dominic, Joe and John and a sister, Edith Hatten.
Survivors include two daughters, Lorena (Tony) Papez of Roberts, and Elvina (Lewis) Jordan of Roberts and Lovell, Wyo.; one sister, Rose Ward of Boyd; 11 grandchildren, Sheryl (Conrad) Hale, Julie (Gary) Harmala, Evelyn (Richard) Smith, Gayle (Mike) Loughney, Kandace (David) Leslie, Ken (Jewel) Karina, Joe (Diane) Karina, Rick (Connie) Waples, Tom (Susan) Jordan, Dan (Debbie) Jordan, and Peggy Jordan Horne; many great grandchildren and great great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Vigil services will be held at 7 p.m., Sunday in St. Agnes Catholic Church. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Monday, Feb. 7 in the Church. Interment will be in the Roberts cemetery with the Olcott Funeral Chapel in charge of arrangements.
Memorials may be given to the Roberts Community Foundation, Box 284, Roberts, MT 59070.

Jane R. Patten
PLAINVIEW, Minn. - Jane R. Patten, 94, formerly of Big Timber, Mont., passed away on Thursday, Feb. 3, 2000, in Plainview. Memorial services are planned in Plainview and a private graveside service at Mountain View cemetery will follow.
Lowry Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
