Neal Regnier
Neal Regnier, 82, of Billings, died Tuesday, March 7, 2000, at Western Manor.
Neal was born in Hammond, Ind., on July 2, 1917. At age 10 the family moved to Montana where they farmed in the Joliet area. On Nov. 12, 1948, he married June Shandy of Joliet. The couple moved to Billings where they raised their family.
A veteran of World War II, Neal served overseas as an airplane mechanic. After the war he worked as a car repairman at the Laurel railroad yards; he retired in 1977 after thirty years of employment.
Neal enjoyed sports a great deal and was a dedicated bowler for many years. He and his wife loved gardening together, tending beautiful flower and vegetable gardens year after year. He was particularly noted for his lovely rose garden.
Neal was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church in Billings. He also belonged to the Elks for many years.
Neal's primary goal in life was to love and care for his family. Those who were closest to him could appreciate his tender heartedness.
Neal is survived by June, his loving wife of 51 years; daughter, Robyn of New Orleans, La.; son, Michael and his wife, Chris and son, Alex of Missoula; daughter, Jana Lutton of Englewood, Colo., and her husband, Randy and daughters, Vanessa, Athena and Talia; six sisters, Pauline Sims, Juanita Spaulding and Patricia Hennen of California, Kate Stene of Joliet, June Grill, Sharon Frank and Sharon's husband, Bob of Billings as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A rosary and prayer vigil will be held Friday, March 10, at 7 p.m. at St. John's Catholic Church in Joliet. A memorial mass will be held at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Billings on Saturday, March 11, at 12 noon.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be sent to Big Sky Hospice, PO Box 35033, Billings, MT 59107 or to the Alzheimer's Association of Greater Billings, 2 Poly Drive, Billings, MT 59102.
Michelotti, Sawyers & Nordquist has charge of arrangements.

Paul Joseph 'Joe' Walters
1917 - 2000
Joe Walters passed away at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 8, 2000, following a heart attack occurring this past Sunday morning.
Most of you probably remember Joe as the author of many letters in The Billings Gazette over the past 40 years.
Many of you will also remember Joe as a decorated veteran of WWII and Korea, a strong voice for Montana, our right to clean air and a healthy environment, and a steward of the Neighborhood Watch Program.
Son of Paul Vernon and Goldie Mae Walters, Joe is survived by his son, Michael, daughter, Patsy, three grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
If you want to remember Joe as we move into the new century, please carry on his work to protect Montana ("The Last Best Place") from those who would destroy her beauty and resources, pollute her rivers and air, and bring crime into her communities.
A short, informal memorial (more a gathering of friends) will be held on the Black Otter Trail near the Range Rider of the Yellowstone at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 11. This was Joe's favorite place from which to photograph Billings. We know that from there, or probably a much higher vantage point, he will continue to look across the Magic City with loving eyes and a caring heart.
