John M. Katana
LEWISTOWN - John M. Katana, 82, died Friday, March 3, 2000, at his home due to cancer. John was born March 4, 1917, at Roundup to John M. and Anna (Kiss) Katana. Johnny was unable to speak English when he started school because his parents spoke only Hungarian in their home. He attended Lincoln School at Camp 3 in Roundup, completing eight years, at which time he quit to go to work in the coal mines in Roundup.
He started working at No. 3 Mine at the age of 15. He worked at various coal mines in the Roundup area until 1957. He began working at the rock picking table and worked various positions underground and in the machine shop where he learned the skills that he kept throughout his life. The final three years at the mine, he worked as hoist engineer.
Following the closing of the mines, he operated Johnny's Conoco in Roundup during 1961 and 1962. John and Tana moved to Lewistown in 1963, when he went to work for Morrison's Implement. In 1964, he began working for the Montana Department of Highways as a mechanic and welder. He held this position until retiring in 1977.
John was united in marriage to Tana Beever on Oct. 22, 1937, in Roundup, and they were married for 62 years.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Lewistown, the United Mine Workers, the Eagles and was a charter member of Central Montana Good Sams Club. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, restoring violins, fly tying, cooking and camping, and working with wood and metal.
Survivors include his wife, Tana Katana of Lewistown; one daughter, Betty (Jim) Stoner of Billings and one son, Ken Katana of Custer. He is also survived by one sister, Anne Golob of Great Falls; three grandchildren, Terry Katana and Ray (Annette) Stoner, both of Billings, and Jere (Tracy) Stoner of Helena; two great grandchildren, Alicia and Ike Stoner and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Julius, and a sister, Jeanette.
Funeral services for John M. Katana will be held at the Lewistown United Methodist Church on Wednesday, March 8 at 11 a.m. Burial will be at Roundup City cemetery at 3 p.m.
Memorials are suggested to the Central Montana Home Health/Hospice, 629 NE Main, Lewistown, MT, 59457, or to the charity of one's choice. Creel Funeral Home of Lewistown is in charge of arrangements.

Rowan Grey
GLASGOW - Rowan Grey, 84, passed away March 4, 2000, at Frances Mahon Deaconess Hospital in Glasgow, of natural causes.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. March 8, at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church, with Dr. Michael Fay officiating. Burial will be in Highland cemetery. Bell Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Diana Odea Heinzman
Diane (Pfleger) Heinzman, 56. left her family to be with her old family, March 1. 2000. She was born the daughter of Anton and Clementine (Earhardt) Pfleger on May 30, 1943 in Mandan, N.D.
On Sept. 3, 1963, Diane was united in marriage to Nick Heinzman, who left her on March 26, 1999. Diana leaves behind her daughter and two sons; Susan (Randy) Maul, Anthony (Gerrie) Heinzman, Nicky (Denise) Heinzman; six grandchildren; Jay Mikel, 14, Brittany, 10, Nickole, 8, Nickadomus, 4, Kayla, 2, and Amariss, 1.
She will be missed by all, but most by her daughter Susan. So soon she was called away. You never realize how much someone can depend on someone else until they leave you.
Memorial services will be held at 6 p.m. Friday, March 10, at the Moose Lodge. Dahl Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Carol Moser Klinger
ROUNDUP - Carol Moser Klinger, 51, passed away on Saturday, March 4, 2000, at her ranch home.
She was born on Sept. 25, 1948, in Nevada, Iowa, the daughter of Merle and Virginia Toot Moser. In 1966, she graduated from Nevada High School. She continued her education at Grandview College in Iowa and later in Denver, Colo., where she met Larry D. Klinger of Roundup, Mont. They were married on Oct. 5, 1968, in Nevada, and had one son, Shawn.
Larry and Carol made their home in Roundup where together they owned and operated a number of businesses, including S & K Trucking, C Lanes, Stella's and Byford Trucking. In 1996, the moved to their ranch on Fattig Creek in the Bull Mountains, and Carol became employed by Twomey Saddle Shop in Musselshell.
She was a talented lady, who enjoyed music, bowling, sewing, leather work and horsehair hitching. Her friends marveled at her sense of humor that remained throughout her courageous battle with cancer.
Survivors include her husband, Larry; son Shawn of Port Arthur, Texas; a brother Steve, wife Kathy, nephews Lucas and Andy, a niece Amy and several aunts, uncles and cousins, all of Nevada, Iowa.
Cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, March 6, at the Community Bible Church in Musselshell. Services in Nevada, Iowa, will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 9.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Shrine Children's Hospital, P.O. Box 20673, Billings, MT 59104, or the charity of one's choice.

Warren Atkinson
CODY, Wyo. - Warren Atkinson, age 78, passed away Friday, March 3, 2000, at West Park Long Term Care Center in Cody following a battle with cancer.
Cremation has taken place. At his request, no services are planned.

A. Phillip Block
August 17, 1918 - Feb. 21, 2000
CLAYTON, Calif. - A. Phillip Block passed away at his new home in Clayton after a short illness. He was a master of photography and owned and operated Tippet Studio in Billings from 1949 until it was sold to Kasper's Photo Shop in 1981. He and his wife, Normagene, had just moved to Clayton to be near family in April, 1999.
Phil was born in Seldovia, Ala., and went to Michigan for his schooling, graduating in 1942 from the University of Michigan in the school of journalism. His military service during World War II was Army Sergeant, serving in Alaska and the Philippines.
He was very active in community affairs in Billings and belonged to many sports organizations, including Midland Roundtable, 50-year veteran of Rotary Club, charter member of the Yellowstone County Club, a director of the J.K. Ralston Museum, many years in photography, twice president of Montana Photography, director of the PPA National Organization, and charter member of the Century Club of Eastern Montana College.
His wife, Normagene survives him. They had just celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary in January. Surviving children include a son, Phillip Dana and wife, Noreen Block of Tygh Valley, Ore.; daughter, Janice and husband, Jack Blasy of Clayton; one granddaughter, Dr. Janeen Smith and husband, Dr. Wade Smith of San Rafael, Calif.; three grandsons, Nicholas Block of Missoula, Jeff Blasy of Lake Tahoe, Nev., and Joey Blasy of Concord, Calif., and two great granddaughters. His step-son, Larry Hageman, preceded him in death on Aug. 1, 1999.
In lieu of flowers, family requests memorials be made to Hospice of Contra Costa, 2051 Harrison St., Concord, Calif., 93420, or Seldovia Public Library, Seldovia, Ala., 99663.

Richard 'Dewey' Cronk
May 10, 1926 - March 3, 2000
A memorial service for Dewey will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 6, at the Broadview High School. A lunch will be served following the service at the Broadview Community Center. Remembrances in his name to any charity are suggested by the family.

Ruth Fletcher
POWELL, Wyo. - Ruth Fletcher, 84, a resident of Powell, Wyo., died on Friday at the Powell Hospital. Graveside family services will be held at 3 p.m. Monday at the Mountain View cemetery in Basin, Wyo.
Miratsky-Easton Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Richard M. Forsyth
LAUREL - Richard M. Forsyth, 59, of Laurel, passed away March 3, 2000, from a massive heart attack. He was born Nov. 19, 1940, in Roundup, the son of Frances and R.C. Forsyth. The family moved to Tacoma, Wash., and later moved to Big Timber, where he was schooled.
Richard worked as a ranch hand in his early years and joined the National Guard. In 1959, he moved to Corning, N.Y., and returned to Montana a year later. He had worked in the Butte mines and for Johnson Ford in Laurel as a mechanic.
In 1961, he married Margaret Rose (Pat) Davis in Bozeman and they had six children, of which three are still living, Vicky Dasenbrock of Idaho, Julie Arnott of Ariz. and Anthony Forsyth of Idaho; eight grandchildren and two sisters, Barbara and Myrna, both of Billings. He was preceded in death by his parents; two daughters, Jodine and Annette and a son, Tobias.
Cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be held at a later date. Arrangements by Cremation or Funeral Gallery.

Kelly A. Johnson
BIG TIMBER - Kelly A. Johnson, 47, of Big Timber, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 28, at his home.
Memorial services will be held Tuesday, March 7, at the First Congregational Church in Big Timber with inurnment following at Mountain View cemetery in Big Timber. Lowry Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Raymond B. Jones
LUBBOCK, Texas - Raymond B. Jones, age 80, of Lubbock, Texas, formerly of Billings, died Thursday, March 2, 2000, at his home.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, March 6, at Oakwood Methodist Church in Lubbock. Cremation is under the direction of Chapel of Angels Funeral Home with inurnment under the direction of Smith Funeral Home of Billings.

Shirley Langston
HARLOWTOWN - Shirley Langston was born March 23, 1921, in Samaria, Idaho to Peter and Sophia Anderson. She passed away peacefully on March 2, 2000, at Saint Vincent Hospital in Billings. She was 78.
She married to Edgar Langston on the 31st of December, 1945.
She was preceded in death by her mother; father; two brothers, Pete Anderson and Lee Hawkins; two sisters, Mary Lott and Vera Roberts and one granddaughter, Jodie Lynn Olson.
She is survived by her husband, Edgar Langston of Harlowton; three children, Joyce (Reuben) Lovatto of Harlowton, Perry (Lynnda) Langston of Seattle, and Jessie (Jerry) Obert of Sheridan, Wyo.; 12 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter; three sisters, Marjorie Ivie of Idaho Falls, Idaho, Ruth Haderlie and Sara Freeman of Logan, Utah, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
During WWII, she drove Greyhound buses and transported troops in Salinas, Calif., where she met Edgar. Shirley spent the rest of her life on the American Fork, raising her family and being actively involved with her grandchildren. Her involvement with her children and grandchildren, whether in school activities or on the American Fork with a fishing pole, was always a high point in Shirley's life. She loved to fish and dance, and could she dance. Shirley and Edgar were dance instructors for 11 years. During her years in Harlowton, she worked for Painter's Grocery, the telephone company, was part owner in the Pink Squirrel craft store, and cooked at The Tavern. She was active in Eastern Star for many years.
Her funeral service will be held at Perkins Funeral Home on Monday, March 6, at 2 p.m. Internment will be at the Harlowton cemetery with a reception to follow at the Harlawton Youth Center. We will miss you and love you always.

Joan Marhenke
POWELL, Wyo. - Joan Marhenke, 76, a resident of Powell, died Friday at the Powell Hospital. Cremation has taken place.

Lloyd William McNeil
CODY, Wyo. - Lloyd William McNeil, age 62, passed away Thursday, March 2, 2000, at West Park Long Term Care Center.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., Thursday, March 9, at Ballard Funeral Home in Cody. Interment of cremains will be in Riverside cemetery.

Florence Pederson
FORSYTH - Florence Pederson, age 96, of Forsyth, passed away on Friday, March 2, 2000, at the Rosebud Health Care Center.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Good Shepard Lutheran Church in Englevale, N.D. Burial will follow in the Oakwood cemetery in Lisbon, N.D. Stevenson and Sons Funeral Home of Forsyth is in charge of arrangements.

Mary Pust
SAVAGE - Mary Pust, age 77, died Thursday, March 2, 2000, at her daughter's home in Hanford, Calif.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 11, 2000, at the Bible Baptist Church in Sidney. Interment will be in the Riverview cemetery under the direction of Fulkerson Funeral Home.
