Carleen Chase
EMIGRANT - Carleen Chase, 69, died at her home on Rock Creek south of Livingston Sunday, Feb. 27, 2000.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, March 2, at Franzen-Davis Funeral Home, 118 N. Third St. in Livingston. Graveside committal and interment will be in Mountain View cemetery.

Jerry Walter Leary
GREAT FALLS – Jerry Walter Leary, 62, died Sunday, April 23, 2000, at his home of congestive heart failure.
Visitation and a memorial service will be Thursday, April 27, from 11 a.m. at Croxford & Sons Rose Room. Cremation has taken place. Memorials are suggested to Great Falls Community Food Bank, P.O. Box 1072, Great Falls, MT 59403-1072.
Jerry was born on March 27, 1938, at Sunburst. He attended school in Sunburst and two years at Concordia Lutheran College in Moorehead, Minn. In 1959, he married Margaret M. Schuhart at Denver. He was in the USAF from 1959-1979. He retired after 12 years at Malmstrom AFB. His tours of duty took him to England, Abilene, Texas, Thailand, Sacramento, Calif., and Guam. After retirement from the military, he went to work in Billings for an insurance company. He returned to Great Falls in 1998.
Jerry enjoyed music, people, working, fishing, hunting, and riding his motorcycle. He was an inactive Mason.
He is survived by his wife, Margaret; his father, Frances Leary of Anacortes, Wash.; sons, Doug (Patty) of Old Saybrook, Conn., Marshall (Kayce) of Billings; sisters, Faith Legan of Anacortes, Wash., Pat Skoblicki of Lemoore, Calif., and Mary Jane Brown of Connell, Wash.; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son and one daughter.

Marvel Straugh
MILES CITY – Marvel Straugh, age 81, of Miles City, passed away on Sunday, April 23, 2000, at the Friendship Villa Care Center in Miles City.
Marvel was born on Feb. 19, 1919, at Belle Fourche, S.D., the daughter of Walter and Mabel (Tankre) Franklin. Her family homesteaded 13 miles south of Broadus. She attended country grade school through the eighth grade. Following her schooling, Marvel worked on the family ranch until 1964 when she married George Straugh, and they moved to Miles City.
Marvel and her husband George loved to travel. She enjoyed horseback riding, fishing, ranching, playing cards and her flower garden.
She is survived by her son, Roy Mork and his wife, Kay of Miles City; six grandchildren: Dean Mork and his wife, Gayle, Robin Mork and Rich Mork, all of Miles City, Kandis Floyd and her husband, Travis of Lead, S.D., Dave Mork and Cecilia Mork, both of Portland, Ore.; eight great-grandchildren: Jordan and Jarrett Mork of Baker, Destini and Jasper Mork of Miles City, Ryan and Devin Mork of Gillette, Wyo., and Dante and Keenan Floyd of Lead. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, George, and a sister, Jean Servorvick.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 28, at 1 p.m., in the Chapel of Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home. Interment will be at a later date. Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home of Miles City is in charge of arrangements.

Grace Bruski
GLENDIVE – Grace Bruski, 40, died Monday, April 24, 2000, at her home.
Vigil service will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday in St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Wibaux. Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in St. Philip’s Catholic Church in St. Philips with Rite of Committal in St. Philip’s cemetery. Silvernale-Silha Funeral Home in Glendive is in charge.

Julia F. Grelck
CHUBBUCK, Idaho – Julia F. Grelck, 91, Chubbuck, died Sunday evening, April 23, 2000, at a local health care center.
She was born June 26, 1908, at Park City, Mont., to Amaziah and Mary Beavers Lanier. She married Maynard B. Grelck March 24, 1938, in Livingston, Mont. Julia was a housewife who loved sewing, embroidery, fishing and camping. She loved canning vegetables, fruits, jams and jellies. She attended the Eagles and Oaks dances. She particularly enjoyed visiting friends and spending time with family. Julia served as a 4-H leader and a Home Demonstration Club member.
She is survived by her husband, Maynard; two daughters, Audrey (Fred) Wentz of Eugene, Ore., Lois Wellard of Chubbuck; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters and five brothers.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, April 27, at 2 p.m. in the Henderson-Cornelison Funeral Chapel, 431 North 15th Ave., Pocatello, with Reverend James Cramer of the First Presbyterian Church officiating. The family will receive friends on Wednesday evening from 7-8:30 p.m. and on Friday one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Memorials may be given in Julia’s memory to the American Heart Association, AHA-Memorial Chairperson, 4923 Sheppard Street, Chubbuck, Idaho 83202.

Sherman David Zeigler
COLUMBUS – Sherman David Zeigler, age 67, of Columbus, succumbed to a sudden illness on Tuesday, April 25, 2000, in Billings.
Sherman was born on Dec. 30, 1932, in Watertown, S.D., to Floyd and Thelma Zeigler.
He moved to Montana with his family when he was two years old. He spent most of his childhood north of Columbus on the family ranch. He had a custom harvesting and trucking business that he established in Columbus in which he worked for the majority of his lifetime.
Sherman enjoyed antique tractors and gardening. He was also a self-taught mechanic. He truly enjoyed visiting with his family and friends. He loved his grandchildren and family very much.
He is survived by his wife, Donna of Columbus; a son, Roger Zeigler of Columbus; a daughter, Sheree (Bob) Pattan of Medford, Ore.; stepchildren, Lauretta (James) Chou of California, William (Laura) Aldridge of Washington, Wesley ( Randi) Aldridge of Nevada; sisters, Marjorie Hoagland of Rapelje, Avis Erbb of Billings, Donna Nelson of Helena; brothers, Marion Zeigler of Arizona, Gary Zeigler of Ringling; four grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Verle, Alice, Arleda; and one brother, Harley.
Funeral Service will be at 1 p.m. Friday, April 28, at the Columbus Middle School (Old Gym). Interment will take place at Mountainview cemetery. Visita-tion from 12-9 p.m. Thursday, at Smith Funeral Chapel in Columbus. Memorials may be made to your local 4-H Club or Charity of Choice.

Ann Grace Shandy Lose
RED LODGE – Ann Lose, 49, of Boyd, passed away Tuesday morning, April 25, 2000, in Beartooth Hospital & Health Center, succumbing to a three-year battle with cancer.
Ann Grace Shandy was born in Red Lodge on June 18, 1950, a daughter of Virgil G. and Helen Shandy. Ann was raised on Cole Creek, north of Joliet. She attended Joliet schools, graduating from high school in 1968.
Ann met and married Paul A. Lose of Belfry, and to this union were born three children, Paul Mark and Matthew Clyde Lose of Billings, and Dana Michelle Castellani, her husband Raymond, and their son Quentin, all of Red Lodge.
Ann, Paul and family made their home in Bearcreek for 16 years, and have resided at Boyd the past six years. Ann served as postmaster in Bearcreek for 18 years and was an LPN at Beartooth Hospital for many years, retiring in 1998. She was a member of the Bearcreek Women’s Club, Red Lodge Bible Study and Joliet Christian Church.
Ann’s family would like to thank everyone at Cancer Treatment Center of Tulsa, Okla., Beartooth Hospital, and Beartooth Home Care and Hospice, all of Red Lodge.
In addition to her husband, children and grandchild, Ann is survived by three brothers, Dallas W. (Marlene) Parkins of Billings, Evan L. (Janet) Parkins of Columbus, and Thomas D. (Diane) Shandy of Billings; sister-in-law Sally Baldwin of Lander, Wyo.; mother-in-law Helene Lose of Billings; sister-in-law Cindy (Steve) Pfeifer of North Richland Hills, Texas; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. Ann was preceded in death by her parents, her older brother Bill Parkins, and her father-in-law, Paul S. Lose.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 29, in the Joliet Christian Church. Interment will follow in the Joliet cemetery. Cremation has taken place, with the Olcott Funeral Chapel assisting with arrangements.
Memorials may be given to the Joliet Christian Church.

Betty Jean (Axtell) Gran
Betty Jean (Axtell) Gran, 73, of Billings, passed away at her home April 25, 2000, of natural causes. She was born in Marysville, Ohio, on April 17, 1927, to Lawrence and Helen Gamble. She married Art Gran May 8, 1965.
“Jeannie” loved to go fishing and to her cabin in the Bull Mountains. Her greatest pleasure was for Art and her to feed the deer, birds and rabbits. We will always hear the echo of the Yahtzee dice from within the cabin.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father, and an infant son Michael. She is survived by children Suzan (Steve) Budde, Leroy (Holly) Axtell of Billings, Pam (Larry) Kjolso of Seattle, Karen ( Rick) Hinman, Jim (Dory) Gran, Jerry (Tammy) Gran, Cindy (Ken) Davis, Randy Gran. She is also survived by 17 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, April 27, at Cremation or Funeral Gallery, Eighth Street West and St. Johns.

Anna C. Kittson
Anna C. Kittson, 68, of Billings, died at Valley Health Care Center April 24, 2000. She was born in Mount Kisco, N.Y., on June 22, 1931, to Mine and Peter Jensen.
Anna was preceded in death by her husband Michael Marshall Kittson. Survivors include sons, Michael P. (Miletta), Patrick (Mary), and Thomas (Jaquie) and daughter Judith Kittson, all of Billings. She is also survived by grandchildren Kristian, Andy and Skip Kittson, all of Billings.
Memorial to Big Sky Hospice.
No services are planned at this time. Arrangements are by Cremation or Funeral Gallery.

Norma W. Skolrud
NASHUA – Norma W. Skolrud, 83, died Tuesday at Valley View Home in Glasgow of natural causes.
No services are planned. Bell Mortuary in Glasgow was in charge.

Doris Belle Purnell
Doris B. Purnell, 80, of Billings passed away peacefully April 22, 2000, at her home. She was born to Jerry A. and Aurie Willis (Dills) Humphrey of Olney, Texas, July 4, 1919. Doris married Clarence Wheeler in 1936. They had a daughter, Sharon, in 1937. They divorced in 1942. On July 28, 1945, Doris married the love of her life, Lewis Tredway Purnell. Together they lived in Dallas. Lewis passed away in 1973. Doris later moved to Billings.
Doris loved to be with her family and friends. She also loved to travel and garden along with cooking and crossword puzzles.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Sharon and Jack Hemsing, of Utica, Mont.; sister Fern Ranton, of Gainesville, Ga.; and brother and sister-in-law Frank and Haigo Humphrey of Lafayette, La.; three grandchildren; Richard and Rene Yarbrough of Billings, E. Diane Glantz and friend Skilly of Billings, Laura Stinson of Dallas; and three great-grandchildren, Rachael Stinson, Jordan and Shelby Yarbrough. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband Lewis.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 27, 2000, at Dahl Funeral Chapel, Billings. Private interment will be at Fairview cemetery, Gainesville, Texas. Dahl Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

Elizabeth ‘Babe’ Jackson
GLASGOW – Elizabeth “Babe” Jackson, 56, died Monday, April 24, 2000, at her home of cancer.
No services are planned. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s cemetery in Frazer. Bell Mortuary was in charge.

Ralph V. ‘Shorty’ Peters
BRIDGER – Ralph V. “Shorty” Peters, 81, of Bridger, passed away on Monday, April 24, 2000, at Deaconess Medical Center in Billings.
Ralph was born to Joseph and Magdalena Peters on Nov. 1, 1918, in Dickinson, N.D.
Ralph married Magdalena (Lena) Ott in 1940 at Red Lodge. They spent their life farming in Bridger. He served in the Army during WWII from 1943-1945, in the 309th Engineer Combat Battalion, 84th Division.
Survivors include his wife, Lena of Bridger; a daughter, Deanna (Ralph) Betcher of Livingston, Texas; two sons, Ron of Bridger, and Gerald (Thellis) of Helena; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews; one brother, John Peters of Laurel; and a sister, Lillie Peters of Bridger.
Ralph was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, and seven brothers.
Memorials are suggested to charity of choice.
Services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, April 27, at Smith Funeral Chapel-Laurel. Interment will be in the Bridger cemetery. A luncheon will follow at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Bridger.

Arthur C. Hornung
Arthur C. Hurnung, a longtime resident of Billings, passed away on March 28, 2000, at the age of 97 in Fort Myers, Fla. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred, in 1975. He is survived by his son, Gilbert of Fort Myers, and his daughter, Imogene Fogelberg of Boulder, Colo. He had seven grandchildren (one deceased) and nine great-grandchildren. He also leaves nephews, Thomas Hornung of Billings and Charles Hornung of Nevada.
He was a member of Billings Lodge AF&AM No. 113 and the Al Bedoo Temple. He was a petroleum geologist who worked for the Carter Oil Co. (subsidiary of what later became Exxon) in the ’30s and ’40s and later became a consulting geologist. He and his wife, Mildred, were owners of the Green Gable cabins on Third Street W. and Miles Avenue in the ’40s and early ’50s.
He and his wife traveled annually to Acapulco for many years and later made extensive trips to various parts of the world. He was truly a world citizen and will be missed by his many friends from here and afar.
