Ada T. Shedden
SHERIDAN, Wyo. – Ada Tromble Shedden, 86, died Sunday, April 16, 2000, at her daughter and son-in-law’s home after a long battle with cancer.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, April 19, at the First Presbyterian Church. Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Big Horns or the First Presbyterian Church, c/o Delphine Toner, First Interstate Bank, Box 2007, Sheridan, WY 82801. Ferries Funeral Home is in charge.

Beverly J. Schoolcraft
GILLETTE, Wyo. – Beverly J. Schoolcraft, 64, died Friday, April 14, 2000, at Campbell County Memorial Hospital of natural causes.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, April 21, at Mount Pisgah cemetery Shelter. Wilson Funeral Home is in charge.

Kenneth T. Corey
RAYMOND, Wash. – Kenneth Teeple Corey, 89, of Raymond, passed away on Sunday, April 16, 2000, at WillapaValley Health Care Center. Kenneth was born on Dec. 29, 1910, in North Dakota. Kenneth had been married to Vicie Boomer Corey for 63 years. Survivors include his wife, Vi Corey of Raymond; a daughter, Virginia, and son, Scott and wife, Janet, also of Raymond, and son, Terry and wife, Joanie of Billings; five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
No services will be held, and cremation has taken place.

Lawrence M. Johnson
WINTER HAVEN, Fla. – Lawrence M. Johnson, 88, former Casper, Wyo., resident, died Friday, April 14, 2000, in Winter Haven.
He was born in Worland, Wyo., on Sept. 16, 1911. He married Lydia E. Eckhardt in December 1932. They moved to Casper to accept employment with Pacific Power and Light in 1952. Mr. Johnson retired in 1977.
He was a past grand master of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, and active in the Senior Citizens Organization of Casper. Mr. Johnson moved to Winter Haven in 1994. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church.
Survivors are his daughters, Joyce Eaton (Bill) of Winter Haven and Judy Allen (Donald) of Billings; five grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. His beloved Lydia, as well as a son, Larry, preceded him in death.
In compliance with Lawrence’s wishes, no services are planned. Cremation has taken place. Private inurnment will take place at a later date.

Jessie Opal Hancock
Jessie Opal Hancock passed away in Billings on Friday, April 14, 2000, at the age of 90.
Jessie Was born in Hartsville, Mo., on March 8, 1910 to Andrew and Martha (Moody) Ryan. On Aug. 18, 1934, she married William Henry Hancock. Together they had two sons, Larry and Gary Hancock.
Mrs. Hancock worked for many years at the YMCA. She was a member of the Eastern Star and attended church at First Congregational Church. She was also an avid bingo player.
Her husband, William, and her eldest son, Larry, preceded Jessie in death. Survivors include her son, Gary Hancock and wife, Marie of Billings; a sister, Letha Egbert of Hemet, Calif.; two sisters-in-law, Doris Hancock of Bellevue, Neb., and Wanda Hancock of Mesa, Ariz.; four grandchildren, Teri Lee and husband, Charles of Houston, Mike Hancock and wife, Sherry of Fort Worth, Texas, Karan Hancock of Liberal, Kan., and William Hancock and wife, Kelly of Lincoln, Neb.; and five great-grandchildren, Ashley, Alan and Aaron Goodner of Houston, Texas, Lena Hancock of Fort Worth, Texas, and Kennedy Porter of Liberal.
Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, April 19 at the First Congregational Church in Billings. Private interment will follow. The family suggests that any memorial donations be made to the charity of one’s choice. Smith Downtown Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Doris (Aaby) Tucker
PORTLAND, Ore. – Doris (Aaby) Tucker, 77, died Thursday, April 13, 2000, in Portland.
She was born April 10, 1923, in Molt, a daughter of Anton and Dora Aaby. She attended school in Lakeview. On Sept. 21, 1940, she married Francis Tucker in Absarokee. She had worked at a grocery store in Portland for many years.
Survivors include her daughter, Delona Steele; two sons, James and Francis Jr.; two sisters, Hilga Phillips of Spokane, Wash., and Mildred Robuck of Laurel, Mont.; two brothers, Elwin of Billings, and Dale of Deer Lodge, Mont. She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters and three brothers.
Cremation has taken place in Portland. Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 19, in the Joliet cemetery.

Helen Crill
BUFFALO, Wyo. – Helen Crill, 80, of Buffalo and former Painesville, Ohio resident passed away Saturday, April 15, at the Amie Holt Care Center.
Funeral services will be held at 6 p. m. Tuesday, April 18, at the Painesville Church of the Brethren in Painesville, Ohio, with Pastor Ted Tate officiating. Interment will be in the Evergreen cemetery in Painesville. A memory service will be held at the Amie Holt Care Center in Buffalo at a later date and will be announced. In lieu of flowers or a memorial, it was Helen’s wish for people to give their time to reach out in loving concern to someone in need of an uplifting touch. She felt since she was the recipient of so many thoughtful gestures during her illness, that she wanted these kindness to continue in her memory.

Melvin R. Metzger, Sr.
MELSTONE – The Lord took Melvin Richard Metzger, Sr., home to be with Him on April 15, 2000.
Mel was born the third son of Jake and Eva Metzger, on Sept. 6, 1936. He attended Allendale School and graduated from Laurel High School in 1955. He joined the Army with the 101st Airborne Division and was stationed in Germany. He returned to Laurel in 1959.
Mel married Judith Arlene Bernhardt on Dec. 27, 1959, at St. John’s Lutheran Church. They have three children: Melvin Richard, Jr. (Silvia) and their children, Shaun and Elizabeth, Kimberly Anne (Lee) and David Jacob (Judy) and daughter, Shawna. He is also survived by two brothers, Ervin (Judy) Metzger of Laurel and Don (Vicki) Metzger of Lander, Wyo.; two sisters, Leona Brewer of Billings and Jean (Gene) Vass of Sidney, Neb. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and a special great niece, Ashley Bernhardt.
Mel worked as a diesel mechanic for twenty one years in Montana and Wyoming. After retiring, he bought the Melstone Bar and Cafe and had a Bar-B-Q Catering business. He was well known throughout Montana.
Mel was closest to the Lord when he was fishing and hunting in the Beartooth Mountains.
“Honey, you were loved by many and will be missed. God speed, ‘til we meet again.”
Visitation will be at Smith Funeral Chapel in Laurel, 5-9 p.m. Tuesday, April 18 and 5-9 p.m. Wednesday, April 19. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, April 20, at the Melstone Community Center. Cremation will follow.

Phyllis M. States
POWELL, Wyo. – Phyllis M. States, 70, passed away on Saturday, April 15, 2000, at West Park Long Term Care Center, in Cody, Wyo.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 18, at Miratsky-Easton Funeral Home in Powell. Visitation will be held from 10 - 10:45 a.m., Tuesday, before funeral service. Burial will be Friday, April 21, in Las Cruces, N.M. Should friends desire: Memorials may be made to Caring for Powell’s Animals, or the charity of donor’s choice. Miratsky-Easton Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements in Powell.

Frank H. Bacheller
Frank H. Bacheller, 83, of Billings died Saturday, April 15 at the Deaconess Hospital.
He was born Nov. 2, 1916 in Miles City to Frank H. and Jean Jameison Bacheller. He graduated from Billings Senior High in 1935 and subsequently attended Montana State University.
Frank served with the Seabees in the U.S. Navy during WWII until he was honorably discharged and returned to Billings in 1945. Frank married Barbara Allen in Dec. 1948.
He was a manager of Custom Tire before the war, and after the war he returned to the same position. He founded and was co-owner of Sioux Tire and was founder and subsequent owner of Asphalt Paving Company where he developed the unique process used to pave Midland Empire Race Track. He later worked with his brother at Interstate Tire Treads and ultimately retired from Epcon Sign Company.
Frank is predeceased by his brother Charles, his wife Barbara, and his sister Nancy. His grandson Eric Christensen also predeceased him in March, 1999.
Survivors include his two daughters, Diane Christensen and Lynda Sue Powell, both of Calif.; his grandson Lance Christensen and his two great-granddaughters, Dylan and Haydn, all of Calif.; his brother Pierre Bacheller of Billings; nieces Annette Bacheller of Billings and Melissa Bacheller Smith of Fort Collins and nephew Pierre Bacheller of Billings. In addition to his family, Frank is survived by a wealth of friends and lifelong companions with whom he shared countless interests and adventures.
He was an avid golfer and outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, and searching for Indian artifacts. As an artisan, Frank enjoyed making traditional Indian tools and creating imitation Native American decorative pieces.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 18, at Michelotti Sawyers & Nordquist Mortuary with interment in Mountview cemetery.
Memorials may be made to St. Joseph’s Indian School, Chamberlain, SD 57326.

Vivian Oset
ROUNDUP – Vivian Irene Oset passed away Saturday, April 15, 2000, at Billings Deaconess Hospital with her loving husband Frank at her side. Vivian was born to Iver and Laura Knudson on April 4, 1919 in Richey Mont. She grew up on a farm at Vida and graduated from high school in Richey l930. Vivian was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church in Richey.
When Vivian was 18, her mother passed away and Vivian finished raising her smaller sister and brother. She spent several years working in a grocery store in Sidney and also kept books for John Deere Hardware in Richey. During World War II, Vivian worked in the shipyard in Seattle.
On June 18, 1970, she married Frank V. Oset in Billings. They ranched north of Roundup. Vivian loved her home and her many flowers. Vivian loved her family, especially her many nieces and nephews. She especially spent a lot of time with her favorite niece, Debbie and her family.
Vivian is survived by her husband, Frank; stepson, Lawrence (Earline) of Livingston; a sister, Lorraine (Merrick) Benes of Glendive; Sisters-in-laws, Evelyn Knudson of Big Fork and Lillian Knudson of Richey. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive Vivian. Vivian was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Harold, Clarence, Robert, Clinton, Kermit and her sisters, Joyce Mae and Hazel.
Visitation will be held from 5-9 p.m. Monday, April 17 at Wier Funeral Chapel. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 18, at the Roundup United Methodist Church with Pastor Joe Easton officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Billings at 1:30 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Roundup United Methodist Church.

J. Kenneth Burke
POWELL, Wyo. – J. Kenneth Burke, 87, died Saturday, April 15, 2000, at the Powell Hospital.
Christian wake services will be at 7 p.m. Monday and Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, both at St. Barbara’s Catholic Church. Burial will be in Crown Hill cemetery. Miratsky-Easton Funeral Home is in charge.

Max R. Conover
BROADVIEW – Max R. Conover, 87, of Broadview, passed away on April 14, 2000, at his home surrounded by his family.
Max was born the eldest of five, on Nov. 2, 1912, in Diamond, Wash., to Robert C. and Carrie Con-over.
The family moved in 1916 to Comanche where Max attended grade school. In 1929, they moved to the Conover Ranch, north of Broadview, and Max attended and graduated from Broadview High School.
On Sept. 20, 1936, Max married Luverne Sandbak in Broadview. They resided in Broadview, where Max operated the GM elevator for 11 years. Then in 1947, they moved to the Conover Ranch where they raised their family of three girls, until his retirement in 1982.
Max was a 50-year member and past master of the Rapelje Lodge No. 122, Scottish Rite, past patron and 50-year member of the Order of Eastern Star, member of the Al Bedoo and rode in the Black Horse Patrol. Max was also a member of the Montana Constitutional Convention, a Montana state senator, a board member of the Community Center and charter member of Senior Citizens. He was also a charter member of the Broadview Lions Club, past president of Montana Grain Growers Association, past board member of the Cert-Seed Association, and served 14 years on the county Library Board.
Max served many years on the Broadview School Board, refereed ball games for 30 years and timed many track meets.
Max loved to play cards, bowl and play pool, but his greatest love was the land and driving combines during harvest with his grandsons.
Max is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Lovey, and his three daughters, Kay (Keith) Nelson of Broadview, Ann Brehm and friend Norm of Billings, Susan (Lee) Lane of Billings, eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren, sister Evelyn, and brother Junior (Margaret), and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday at the Broadview Gym with interment in Broadview cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Michelotti, Sawyers & Nordquist Mortuary.
Memorials may be made to Broadview Senior Citizens, Al Bedoo Shrine Transportation Trust Fund or the charity of your choice.

Alvin P. Entzel
GLENDIVE – Alvin P. Entzel, 81, died Friday, April 14, 2000, in the Friendship Village Care Center in Miles City.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Glendive with burial in Dawson Memorial cemetery. Silvernale-Silha Funeral Home is in charge.

Dudleigh Stewart Gransberg
HELENA – Dudleigh Stewart Gransberg passed away Friday morning, April 14, 2000, at St. Peter’s Hospital surrounded by his wife and two sons, following a valiant struggle with cancer.
He was born to Clarence and Hildegard (Kamphaus) Gransberg on July 1, 1928, in Northwood, N.D. On June 13, 1945, he enlisted in the Navy and served aboard the USS Stack, receiving the WWII Victory Medal. He received an honorable discharge on June 23, 1949.
On Feb. 17, 1951, he married Treva Bell Hillebrecht. The couple lived in Helena where Dudleigh worked for the State of Montana and the City of Helena until his retirement on June 22, 1981. He was a member of the American Legion and the VFW. One of his many favorite hobbies was fishing, whether he caught anything or not.
Survivors include his wife, Treva; son and daughter-in-law, Alan and Carolyn of Billings; son, Brett of Helena; brother, C.O. Gransberg of Billings; sister, Marlene Gransberg of Billings; five grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, April 17, in Hagler-Anderson Chapel with Rev. Steve Moody of the Clancy United Methodist Church officiating. Military graveside honors will be accorded him at the Sunset Memorial Garden by the Lewis & Clark Veterans Council. Cremation has taken place. Memorials may be given to the donor’s choice. Services are under the direction of Hagler-Anderson Mortuary.
