Donald F. Emineth
LAUREL - Donald F. Emineth, 61, of Laurel, passed away at his home in Laurel, Friday, May 12, 2000.
Don was born at Mandan, N.D., Oct. 14, 1938. He and his family moved to Laurel in 1948 and lived at Riverside Park where his parents were the park caretakers. He attended Laurel schools and graduated from Laurel High School in 1957. There were many memories about Riverside Park, including Emo's Casino.
Don was in the U.S. Navy for four years and returned to Laurel in 1961 and then started working at the U.S. Post Office until retiring in 1998.
He married Linda Frickel on July 25, 1970.
Don will be remembered by all for his total honesty and his sense of humor. He entertained us all with his singing and his wit He had many hobbies including gardening, painting and wood working. He was also the financial planner, and he tried to guide us all towards a positive future. This year he particularly loved being outside with his grandson, Kaleb, and helping his father-in-law, Ruben, work in the garden.
Don, you will be missed by all who love you.
Survivors include his wife, Linda of Laurel; daughters, Anita Emineth and her son, Kaleb, both of Billings, Kristene Emineth of Laurel; sons, Robert Emineth of Billings and Kevin Emineth (Amy) of Laurel; brothers, Jim (Arvella) Emineth of Laurel, Ken (Shirley) Emineth of Billings, Clarence (Elinor) Emineth of Augusta, Ga., and Cletus (Barb) Emineth of Laurel; a sister, Gloria Emineth of Joliet and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 16, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Laurel. Interment will be in the Laurel cemetery.
Smith Funeral Chapel-Laurel was in charge of arrangements.

Korenna Kay Helmuth
TERRY - Korenna Kay Helmuth, infant daughter of Joshua Allen and Piney Rae (Nelson) Helmuth of Terry, was stillborn on May 12, 2000, at the Holy Rosary Health Center in Miles City.
Korenna is survived by her parents, a sister, Kylie Rae of the family home; grandparents, Margie and Keith Holmlund and Doug Nelson, all of Miles City, Sandy and Sheryl Helmuth of Fallon; great-grandparents, Helen Jones and Helen Nelson, both of Miles City, Nate and Katherine Miller of Sidney, and Bonnie Holmlund of Miles City; great-great grandparents, Newton Hollowell of Miles City and Beulah Basta of Glendive; and numerous aunts and uncles.
Private family services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 18, at Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home in Terry with Rev. Pete Bruno officiating. Interment will follow in the family lot in Prairie County cemetery. Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home of Terry is in charge of arrangements.
Should friends desire, memorials may be made to a charity of their choice.

Henry Hochhalter
HARDIN - Henry Hochhalter, 80, of Hardin, died Thursday, May 11, 2000, in St. Vincent Hospital, surrounded by his loved ones.
He was born Sept. 21, 1919, in Leith, N.D., a son of Fred and Amelia Link Hochhalter.
Henry moved with his family to Hardin in 1937, where he met and married Martha Kirschenmann. They were married , May 17, 1942, in Hardin. Martha passed away Dec. 29, 1998.
Henry was an active member of the Hardin community and served as a City Councilman and then as mayor for two terms, 1982 though 1989. During his term as mayor, he was instrumental in obtaining funds needed to build the Community Activity Center.
He was an active member of the Hardin Elks Lodge No. 2215 and was a trustee at the time of his death.
Henry owned and operated the Standard service station from 1942 through 1958. He purchased the Chevron service station in 1960 and operated it until 1965. Henry and Martha purchased the Western Motel in 1965, bought the American Inn in 1977, formed Hochhalter's Incorporated and built the Far West Restaurant and Casino in 1996.
Henry was preceded in death by his wife Martha; five sisters, Pauline, Albina, Emelia, Ada and Viola, and two brothers, Albert and Alvin, and a daughter-in-law, Gloria.
Survivors include his sons, Allen (Marie), Gary, Rodney and Ken (Harmony), daughter, Cherlyn (Clayton) Greer, all of Hardin; brother, Edward of Lacey, Wash.; sisters, Lydia Fried of Hardin, Eva Hillius of Elgin, N.D.; grandchildren, Gina, Dana, Leah, Zena, Andrea, Megan, Kara, Damon, Drew, Sunshine, Hannah, Cameron, Nathan, Chandra and Nyles; great-grandchildren, Zane, Darien, Caden, Lexia, Gaven, Breanne, and special friend, Vi Samson of Ballantine as well as many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Bullis Funeral Chapel. Interment with Elks rites will be in the Hardin Fairview cemetery. Bullis Mortuary of Hardin has been entrusted with the arrangements.
Memorials may be made to the Hardin Elks Youth activity fund.

Edward John Holden
Edward John Holden, 78 years old, died May 11, 2000, in Billings after an extended illness. Born in Butte, Ed lived in Billings most of his life, graduating from Billings High in 1939 and attending the Butte School of Mines.
Ed married Martha McLaughlin in San Francisco during World War II while he was serving in the U.S. Navy. They were married 57 years until Martha preceded him in death on Dec. 22, 1999. Ed retired from the Billings City Water Department after more than 35 years of service. In his retirement, he joined the Elks Lodge.
Ed is survived by his four married daughters, Kay (John) Allen of Blaine, Wash., Pat (Charles) Burhan of Hoffman Estates, Ill., Jo (Leonard) Harkless of Billings, and Janet (Mat) Cassel of Salt Lake City, Utah; his brother, Harold of Billings; and six grandchildren, Andrew and Lyndsey (Jo), and David, Alexandra, Madeliene, and Samuel (Janet).
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, May 15, at Michelotti, Sawyers & Nordquist. A Vigil Service will be held 7 p.m. Monday at Michelotti, Sawyers & Nordquist. The casket will be closed for the Vigil Service. Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Pius X Church with Rite of Committal in Mountview cemetery. Memorials may be directed to St. Pius X Church, 18th St. West and Broadwater Ave., Billings, MT 59102.

LaVon Bassett Luck
LOVELL, Wyo. - LaVon Bassett Luck, 86, died Friday, May 12, 2000, at New Horizons Care Center.
Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Haskell Funeral Home. Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the LDS Stake Center with burial in the Lovell cemetery.

Lawrence Anderson
SHERIDAN, Wyo. – Lawrence Louis Anderson died on Sunday, June 25, 2000, at the Veterans Hospital.
Cremation has taken place and no services are planned. A private family memorial will be in the Oregon Trail State cemetery at a later date. Kane Funeral Home is in charge.

William Richard Anderson
YUCAIPA, Calif. – William Richard Anderson, aged 85, passed away at his home in Yucaipa May 5, 2000.
Bill is greatly missed by his family and many friends. Born in Fairfax, Mo., April 19, 1915, he received his college degree from nearby Tarkio College while shouldering many family responsibilities during difficult economic times. After college graduation in 1936, Bill moved to Billings. In 1938, he married his college sweetheart, Meg. He and Meg had four sons.
In 1941, he began work at the Yale Oil refinery (now Exxon) where he made his career. He retired from Exxon in 1975, after having worked his way up from chemist to division manager specializing in conflict resolution. His hobby was photography, and he gained national recognition as an amateur nature photographer.
During World War II, Bill volunteered for the Army and worked as a chemist for the Manhattan Project in Los Alamos, N.M., helping to build the first atomic bomb. While making plutonium, he was overexposed to radiation and was one of the first Americans to suffer radiation sickness.
After the children were grown, they moved to Yucaipa, where Bill began a successful new career making crafts and selling them. In Yucaipa, he made many new friends who remember him for his generosity, helpfulness, and positive good humor. Bill was an optimist who turned adversity into blessings. In 1986, after the death of his wife, he married Edith, who gave him new happiness. Edith became a second mother to his sons, daughters-in-law and many grandchildren. They shared 14 wonderful years together.
Bill is survived by his wife, Edith Anderson; his sons, William, Michael, Christopher, and Richard Anderson, as well as daughters-in-law, Mary, Patricia, Evelina, and Sharon; grandchildren, Barbara, Cathleen, Chad, Shannon, and Nathanael; stepchildren, Judith Wright, Kenneth Beatty and Richard Beatty. He is also survived by five great-grandchildren, eight stepchildren and five step-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Margaret Kilpatrick Anderson, and his grandson, William.

John (Jack) Avery
At the age of 70, John (Jack) Avery of Billings died at Deaconess Medical Center on Tuesday, June 27, 2000, after a brief illness. Jack was born in Hornell, N.Y., on Feb. 28, 1930, the son of John Edward and Marie (Toye) Avery. He grew up in Hornell, graduated from Hornell High School and Michigan State University as a geologist, and lived in both Ishpeming and Marquette, Mich., until moving to Billings in 1972.
Jack was an accomplished sportsman in golf, hockey, baseball, football, hunting, and fishing and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. One of Jack’s most respected role models was his Uncle Joe Toye who fought courageously in World War II, always facing adversity privately and without complaint.
Survivors include his children, Martina Lynne Avery-Perry, Kathleen Sue Avery Bergstrom, Michael John Avery; grandchildren, AimeC M. Johnson, Shawna M. Hughes, Arthur N. Hughes; and his son-in-law, Jerold E. Perry.
He was loved and well respected by his family and many friends. Jack touched and influenced many through his enjoyment of life and his ability to show sensitivity when needed. He was a great man and will be missed and remembered with love. Jack eternally rests in peace.
Wake service is Saturday, July 1, at 6 p.m. and Funeral services Sunday at 11 a.m., both at Dahl Funeral Chapel, 10 Yellowstone, Billings, MT 59102 with a luncheon to follow funeral. Cremation will take place.

Bud Brewer
OXFORD, Miss. – Graveside services for Bud Brewer, 88, formerly of Powderville, Mont., will be held on Saturday at 10 a.m. on the highest hill at the ranch at Powderville.
Anyone wishing to attend who doesn’t know the way might join friends and family at the Comfort Inn at 8 a.m. on Saturday to caravan out to the site. Stevenson & Sons Funeral Home of Miles City is in charge.

Robert A. Clark
SPOKANE, Wash. – Robert A. Clark passed away on Monday, June 26, 2000, at Sacred Heart Hospital in Spokane. Mr. Clark had lived for 76 years.
Robert was born on Jan. 26, 1924, in Ryegate, Mont., a son of Frank and Bertha (Hall) Clark. Following his education in Ryegate, he worked with his father drilling wells. Robert enlisted in the Army on July 24, 1942, and was honorably discharged on Nov. 7, 1945.
In 1946, Robert married Iva Evans in Utah. He worked as a farm laborer most of his life, living wherever the ripening harvest would take him. He and Iva had no children and she preceded him in death in 1979. His parents and four brothers also preceded Robert in death.
Survivors include three sisters, Vi Boggess of Billings, Blanche Ashbrook of San Antonio, Texas, and Ina Hamilton of Great Falls; a brother, Walter Clark of Delanson, N.Y.; an aunt, Bobbie Clark of Shepherd, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 30, at the Ryegate cemetery. Smith Downtown Chapel of Billings is in charge of arrangements.

Henry Dorn Jr.
BALLANTINE – Henry Dorn Jr., 80, of Ballantine, formerly of North Valley Hardin, passed away peacefully Tuesday June 27, 2000, at his home in Ballantine with his family by his side.
He was born in Park City, the son of Henry and Mary Reichert Dorn. He moved to Hardin with his parents and attended school and worked on the family farm. He married Rosella Johnson in Hardin on Nov. 29, 1941 . They moved to the North Valley area and farmed until he moved in 1972 to Worden where he farmed until 1974. They moved to Ballantine, and he became employed with the Huntley Irrigation Project as a ditch rider. Henry retired in 1985. He loved to play with his grandchildren, enjoyed gardening and always enjoyed a great game of poker.
Survivors include his wife, Rosella; two sons, Larry (Georgia) Dorn of Hardin and Gary Dorn of Billings; three daughters, Loretta (Richard) Flack of Billings, Alice (John) Sjostrom of Custer and Charlotte (Phillip) Schuman of Ballantine; 13 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews; three brothers, Carl (Rita) and George (Martha) of Hardin and John (Kay) of Bozeman; a sister, Martha (Ed) Wagner of Billings. Henry was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, a brother and three grandsons, Darren Sjostrom, Mike Dorn and William Schuman.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Worden with interment following in the Pleasantview cemetery. Arrangements by Cremation or Funeral Gallery.

Sharon Eileen Evans
LAUREL – Sharon Eileen Evans was born on April 7, 1944, to Ada and Adolph Hanson in Dickinson, N.D. She died on June 27, 2000, at her home in Laurel.
Sharon graduated from Laurel High School in 1962. She had worked as an office manager at Meadow Gold in Billings for 24 years. Most recently she had been a caregiver to her sister and grandchildren.
She enjoyed bowling, dancing, and doing jigsaw puzzles. Sharon loved to watch Jeopardy. In fact, the only time she ever missed it was when the Lakers were playing.
She had taken a trip to Disneyland last fall with her grandchildren. Sharon loved a good party. She was so looking forward to the 4th of July Celebration.
Sharon will be dearly missed by all of those who loved her.
She is survived by her mother, Ada J. Kamrath of Laurel; her daughters, Jeannine Nelson of Laurel and Dana Evans of Denver; her son, Jae (Robin) Evans of Manhattan, Mont.; four grandchildren, David Gunter, Mandy Nelson, C.J. Nelson and Cathryn Nelson; sisters, Dixie (John) Starkovich of California, Shirley Hanson of Laurel, Mavis Lissa of Billings, Hazel Hanson and Jan McGrath of Texas; a long time companion and supporter, “George”; two nephews, Michael Lissa of Billings and Christopher Starkovich of Washington; one niece, Kristina Lissa of Denver; many aunts and uncles; and friends too numerous to name.
She was preceded in death by her father; one brother, Arden Ray Hanson; and one sister, Gloria Hanson.
Cremation has taken place. Memorial Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, June 30 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Laurel. Inurnment will take place at the Laurel cemetery. Smith Funeral Chapel in Laurel is in charge of arrangements.

Beatrice ‘Bebe’ FitzGerald
Beatrice Davis FitzGerald, known to everyone as Bebe, passed away on June 26.
Bebe was born Aug. 1, 1916, at home in Bloomfield, N.J., and graduated from Bloomfield High School. She married Brooks Fitz-Gerald on Sept. 3, 1938. She and Brooks lived in Ampere, N.J. for two years. During World War II, Brooks worked for the Petroleum Institute for War in Washington, D.C., while Bebe lived with her parents and cared for their sons, Bill and Bob.
After the war, Bebe and Brooks moved to Billings where they bought the house where they lived until his death, except for one year in Denver in 1954. In Billings they had a third son, Paul.
Bebe loved everyone and was loved by everyone. She was active in the First Congregational United Church of Christ of Billings. In her 70s she twice served as moderator for the church, in addition to many other church volunteer activities.
She was an avid birdwatcher, and active member of the Audubon Society. She served as president of the Montana Audubon Society and helped establish the Yellowstone Valley Audubon. She testified at the legislature for environmental issues, especially for protection of non-game birds. For 25 years she taught bird identification classes at Rocky Mountain College, completing the last two classes this spring. She was also a long time member of PEO.
Bebe also gave many volunteer hours to the Global Village, a retail outlet that supports microbusinesses in the third world. She wanted to be remembered as being a homemaker and a volunteer. She died peacefully at 83.
She is survived by a family that loves her: her husband, Brooks; her brother, Richard and his wife, Kathleen; her sons, Bill and his wife, Vicki, Bob and his wife, Pam, and Paul; and her grandchildren, Jamie and her husband, Clint, Geoff and his wife, Kristi, Aaron, and Alex.
Bebe was one of God’s great gifts to our world. Just a week ago, surrounded by her family, she reflected on her life: “Just to think – a shy, freckle-faced girl from Berkeley Avenue, to all of this. It’s a great world.” Memorials can be sent to the Yellowstone Valley Audubon Society or the Global Village, c/o Paul FitzGerald, 2223 Spruce St., Billings, MT 59101.
A memorial service will be held on Friday at 7 p.m. at the First Congregational United Church of Christ at 310 N. 27th Street in Billings. Michelotti, Sawyer & Nordquist is in charge of arrangements.
